Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres tried to blow up the car of Farsegarh Police Station in-charge Akash Masih in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near Somanpalli on the Kutru-Farsegarh Road in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on May 15, reports abplive.com. The Police Station in charge and a soldier in the vehicle narrowly escaped the blast. However, the front part of the vehicle got damaged due to this blast. It is being told that the Maoists planted an IED from behind a tree through an electrical wire at a distance of about 40 to 50 metres from the main road and escaped after carrying out the blast.
Fourteen Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including 11 carrying a cumulative bounty of INR 4.1 million on their heads, were arrested from the forests of Mutvendi and Pidiya villages in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on May 12, reports The Pioneer. The Maoists -- six women and eight men -- were part of the Maoist group's Military Company No 2 and the Gangaloor Area Committee, Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Jitendra Kumar Yadav said. These include Renu Kovasi and Mangli Awlam with a reward of INR 800,000 each. Bichchem Uika, Sharmila Kursam and Lakshmi Tati carried rewards of INR 500,000 each. Four cadres had bounties of INR 200,000 each and two had rewards of INR 100,000 each on their head.
Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including a teenager surrendered to Security Forces (SFs) in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on May 13, reports The Pioneer. Motiram Kunjam (25) and a 16-year-old boy turned themselves in, Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Rai said. Kunjam was a Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (DAKMS) member while the boy was a Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM) member of the Maoist group.
On May 14, Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) arrested four gangsters, identified as Gurwinder Singh alias Shera, Ranjit Singh alias Sonu, Jagjit Singh alias Jashan, and Gurpreet Singh and recovered three pistols along with 13 cartridges and impounded an SUV in Rajpura city in Patiala District of Punjab, reports The Tribune. All four individuals were associated with Iqbal Preet Singh, alias Buchi, who operates from abroad. Sources have confirmed that Buchi maintained contact with the deceased pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and is also a close associate of Ramandeep Bagga, alias Canadian, who was a primary shooter in seven targeted killings between 2016 and 2017. While Buchi faces 11 cases related to murder, attempted murder, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Arms Act, Bagga is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail.

On May 15, National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a proclaimed offender, identified as Nuruddin alias Rafi, related to the Hyderabad espionage case involving a Sri Lankan and a Pakistani national at Rajiv Nagar area of Mysuru in Karnataka, says NIA. Several incriminating materials, including mobile phones, laptop, pen drives, Drone, etc., were recovered from the offender. NIA reported that the offender was declared a proclaimed offender (PO) on May 7, 2024 after being released on bail in August, 2023 despite issuing a non-bailable warrant. The Espionage Case was related to a terror conspiracy of carrying out explosions at the US Consulate in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and Israel Embassy in Bengaluru (Karnataka) in 2014 involving a Sri Lankan national Muhammed Sakir Hussaien and a Pakistani National, Amir Zubair Siddique. NIA revealed that in addition to the terror conspiracy case, Nurrudin was involved in financing the anti-national espionage activities through High Quality Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) with the accused Pakistani national.

On May 15, National Investigation Agency (NIA) listed one more accused, identified as Zakir Hussain alias Sonu, in its charge sheet for his role in delivering arms and weapons from Pakistan to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists by drones in Kathua District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), reports Daily Excelsior. Earlier, in a case registered in 2022, NIA filed charges after a drone (hexacopter) was intercepted and recovered with several rounds of Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) and magnetic bombs near the Dhalli area in Kathua District. According to the charge sheet, Hussain was supporting and assisting the operatives of LeT in collecting and delivering the arms and ammunition consignments dropped by the drone coming from the Pakistan side.

Nazeer Afghani along with his brother and nephew survived the attack. Heavy ammunition was used in the attack. The attackers managed to escape after the attack. The property was damaged.
The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) on May 15 defused an improvised explosive device (IED) planted near the Pak-Afghan highway in Khyber District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reports The Khorasan Diary. Almost seven kilograms of explosives were planted on the roadside. The crossing has been opened after defusing the bomb, said District Police Officer.

A research report, ‘Pakistan’s Evolving Militant Landscape: State Responses and Policy Options’, released by Islamabad-based think tank Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) on May 14 said the Provincial Counter Terrorism Departments (CTDs) lack clarity on militant groups’ dynamics, connections and operational strategies, apart from facing issues related to coordination, funding and intelligence gathering, reports Dawn. While CTDs have established their own specialised intelligence units and analysis wings to study militant behaviour, they often lack skills to process data effectively and remain largely dependent on premier intelligence agencies. The report said that funding issues plague CTDs except in Punjab, whose counterterrorism department has adequate funding. It recommended Pakistan establish a robust implementation mechanism for national extremism and security policies, including the revised National Action Plan (NAP).
