2012

  • November 29: Four suspected outlaws of PBCP-Janajuddha were killed in a mob-lynch attack at Beelkaliani village in Faridpur sub-District of Pabna District.

  • November 27: One regional leader of the outlawed PBCP was killed at Debottar village under Atghori sub-District of Pabna District.

  • November 6: The DB of Police arrested a cadre of an outlawed party, PBCP along with one gun and five bullets from Balughata Primary School area of Ataikula in Pabna District. The arrestee was identified as Muhammad Abdul Malek (28).

  • October 23: RAB arrested a regional leader of the PBCP - Janajuddha faction along with arms at Halidhani Bazaar in Sadar sub-District of Jhenidah District. The arrestee was identified as Mozam Daktar (40). RAB recovered one shutter gun and one bullet from him.

  • September 18: A regional leader of the outlawed PBCP Lal Pataka faction was killed in a "shootout" between police and the group in Mirpur sub-District of the Kushtia District. Police said the deceased Rahat Ali (45), was accused in 11 cases, including five for murder. Police recovered a 9 mm pistol, 8 bullets and 6 bombs from the scene.

  • September 17: Two villagers were injured by PBCP cadres at Bazar area in Khagrachhari District. The injured were identified as Khokan Chakma and Ratnakar Chakma. Police said some PBCP cadres on their way back from a demonstration programme beat Khokan and Ratnakar at Khagrachhari Bazaar area. Police arrested two PBCP cadres, Jakir Hossain and Kowsar Alam, from the spot.

  • September 7: Police arrested an alleged woman cadre of PBCP Janajuddha faction along with arms and bombs from her father's house at Kadikhali village in Harinakunda sub-District of Jhenidah District. The arrestee was identified as Farida Parvin and recovered one double barrel gun, two shutter guns, three choppers and seven live bombs.

  • September 4: A regional leader of outlawed Lal Pataka faction of PBCP was killed in a 'shootout' between Police and his cohorts in Mirpur sub-District of Kushtia District. The deceased was identified as Abdul Jalil (43) son of late Mofiz Uddin. Police said Jalil was a regional leader of the outfit active in Mirpur and Sadar sub-District of Kushtia District and Alamdanga sub-District of Chuadanga District.

  • September 1: A regional leader of outlawed PBCP-Red Flag faction was stabbed to death in Chatmohar sub-District of Pabna District. The deceased is identified as Nayeb Ali (40) son of Kashem Ali. Police said locals found Nayeb's body in Aulipur sluice gate area and informed them.

  • July 30: RAB arrested a 'regional leader' of outlawed PBCP Red Flag faction and recovered a revolver and three bullets from his possession from Bhelupara village in Ishwardi sub-District of Pabna District. The arrestee is identified as Md. Shahidul Islam allias Kuni Shahid (56). RAB said Kuni Shahid was one of the most wanted criminals in the district.

  • July 29: Police arrested one cadre of a faction of PBCP in Ataikula bus stand of the Pabna District. Police also recovered a bomb from the possession of the outlaw. The arrestee is identified as Aslam Hossain (22) son of Kalu Hossain of village Boroibari in Santhia sub-District of Pabna District.

  • July 3: SFs arrested a 'regional leader' of PBCP at Kodimbogid village in Atghoria sub-district in Pabna District. The arrested militants have been identified as, Jalem Uddin (45).

  • June 15: The Police arrested two members of PBCP-Red Flag faction from Monohargati village of Santhia sub-District in Pabna District. The arrestees were identified as Shahin Alam (35) and Abdul Alim (20).The Police arrested the outlaw members from the village when they were taking preparation for committing crimes.

  • June 4: The Police and RAB arrested three members of outlawed PBCP Lal Pataka faction and recovered firearms from them in Rajbari District and Meherpur District. In Rajbari District, the Police raided Rail Gate area and arrested Chandan Kumar Biswas with a pistol and two bullets. In Meherpur District, RAB in Gangni sub-District raided Muhammadpur village. The team arrested Ruhul Amin and Ratan Ali and recovered a shutter gun from their possession.

  • May 30: The Police arrested a regional leader of the outlawed PBCP Lal Pataka faction with firearms and ammunitions from Baoyikula village in Atghoria upazila of Pabna District. The arrestee was identified as Ashkar Ali (32) son of Dinu Mohammed of the village. The Police recovered a foreign made revolver and 6 rounds of bullets from his possession.

  • May 23: RAB personnel arrested an alleged cadre of the Red Flag faction of the PBCP-ML from his house along with one LG and two bullets at Karamdi village in Gangni sub district of Meherpur District.

  • May 7: SFs arrested a regional leader of Janajudhha faction of PBCP, Motalib Hossain alias Turu, (35), along with firearms of Boroibaria village in Ataikula of Dhaka city. SFs recovered a shutter gun and two bullets from his possession.

  • April 19: A leader of PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Motaleb Hossain (45), was found dead in Mirpur sub district of Kushtia District.

  • April 17: Police arrested Gias Uddin (35), a cadre of the PBCP-Janajuddha faction, at Kazipur village in Gangni sub district of Meherpur District. A shutter-gun, one bullet and 20 bottles of phensidyl were also recovered from him.

  • March 20: RAB killed Mostafizur Rahman alias Mostak, who had been leading the banned outfit PBCP in Rajshahi District, in Goakhali village of Bagmara sub-district in Rajshahi District. Two RAB personnel were also injured during the gunfight. Mostak was previously a close aide of executed JMB leader Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai and was involved with the JMB in 2004. He was 'operation commander' of the JMB's Bagmara unit.

  • February 20: A 'regional leader' of outlawed PBCP-ML, identified as Anowar Hossain (30), was beaten to death by a mob at Gulbaria village in Santhia sub-district of Pabna District. Anowar's accomplices exploded two hand bombs to flee the scene after being chased by the villagers, injuring two civilians.

  • February 12: RAB SI, Tipu Sultan, got injuries during a bid to arrest PBCP-ML cadres at Chadpur village in Gangni sub-district of Meherpur District. At the time of the raid, around 13/14 suspected persons were trying to release illegal toll from Thandu and Enamul, the brick kiln owners of the village. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gang hurled bombs at the team leaving Sub-Inspector Tipu Sultan injured. The arrestees, identified as Hasan Ali, Sabuj Ali, Yadul Islam, and Nuhu Mia, were high ranking cadres of PBCP-ML. RAB recovered Chadpur village in Gangni sub-district of Meherpur District from the spot.

2011

  • December 27: The Police arrested a 'regional leader' of the outlawed PBCP, identified as Kamal Hossain (28), in Sadar sub-district of Pabna District and recovered a two barrel gun and four bullets from his possession.

  • December 23: The Police arrested a cadre of outlawed PBCP-Red Flag faction from Parshadanga village of Chatmohar sub-district of Pabna District. The arrestee has been identified as Mohammad Rubel Hossain (22).

  • December 22: RAB, arrested PBCP-J cadre, identified as Jahangir Alam alias Liton (34), at Chhatian village in Gangi sub-district of Meherpur District. RAB also recovered a shutter gun and five bullets from his possession. Gangni Police said Liton is accused in two bomb blast and two extortion cases.

  • December 16: Police arrested a 'regional leader' of PBCP, identified as Bidyut Kumar Bachhar (42) from his house at Maguradanga village in Tala Sub-district of Satkhira District.

  • December 13: Two militants of PBCP were murdered in Khulna and Pabna. In Khulna, Police recovered the body of PBCP-Janajudhha faction militant Niamul Islam (38) from near Camelia Kindergarten School at Matamdanga in Khulna city.

    The body of another PBCP militant, identified as Abdur Rahim (38), was found in Balughata Beel (water body) area of Faridpur sub-district of Pabna District.

  • December 8: A leader of the PBCP-ML was killed in a shootout between a RAB trooper and his cohorts in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga early. The deceased, Mokaddes Moka (40), of Bhadua village in the upazila, was the 'regional commander' of the outfit. Two pistols, two bullets and a shutter gun were recovered from the scene. Moka surrendered in 1999 when the then government offered the outlaws an opportunity to surrender. However, he was released on bail in 2003. Moka was again arrested in 2008 and released on bail two months ago.

  • November 16: Police arrested a suspected leader of PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Atabul Islam (35), in Bheramara sub-district in Kushtia District on November 16, reports our correspondent. Police later recovered a light gun, two bombs and a bullet from the arrestee's possession.

  • November 15: A PBCP-Red Flag militant, identified as Mobarak Hossain (40), was allegedly killed by party rivals in at Beel Muril Guchhagram in Sadar sub-district of Tangail District.

  • November 4: The 'regional commander' of PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Khorshed Alam was killed by RAB-12 in Kamarkhand sub-district of Sirajganj District.

    RAB-12 arrested a cadre of Sarbahara Party, identified as Shimul Hossain along with a firearm in Sadar sub-district of Pabna District.

    In Chuadanga District, police arrested Amirul, a PBCP cadre at Khaskorba Bazar in Alamdanga sub-district.

  • October 31: The outlawed PBCP-J claimed responsibility for October 30 attempt on life of Digholia (Khulna District) UP Chairman Gazi Abdul Halim.

  • October 30: Detective Branch Police arrested a 'regional leader' of outlawed PBCP identified as Mohammad Manik Khan (35), from Hadal village in Faridpur sub-district of Pabna District.

  • October 28: A PBCP-J'regional leader' of Khulna, identified as Mohammad Azibor Rahman alias Mujibur (40), was arrested at Bisali in Narail Sadar sub-district of Narail District.

  • October 22: Police in separate raids arrested three militants of PBCP- Janajudhha from Santhia sub-district in the Pabna District. The arrestees, identified as Akkas Ali, 25, Abdus Salam, 30, of Sonakandi Bill and Md. Nazmul Haque, 25, are accused in several cases, including for murder.

  • October 16: Rajshahi Speedy Court Tribunal awarded life imprisonment to 24 cadres of outlawed PBCP for killing a constable (Mizanur Rahman) and looting arms at Taherpur outpost in Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi District on May 2, 2008.

  • September 29: Police arrested Mohammadd Shahid Uddin (35) a top operative of outlawed PBCP Janajudhha from Rajpara in Rajshahi District.

  • September 28: In another drive, Police arrested a cadre of PBCP-Janajudhha, identified as Mithu Molla (36) from his hideout at Gazirhat under Digholia sub-district.

  • September 20: A cadre of the PBCP-J, identified as Sajedul Islam (35), was killed by unidentified assailants at Kathgora in Chatmohar sub-district of Pabna District.

  • September 18: Police arrested two alleged members of PBCP-J, identified as Ashan Ali (30) and Khokon Mandol (28), along with firearms at Mirpur sub-district in Kushtia District. A foreign-made pistol, one LG gun and three bullets were recovered by the Police.

  • September 15, 2011: The 'regional leader' of the Red Flag faction Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Red Flag), identified as Mohammad Shomsher Ali, was arrested along with firearms from Doyarampur village in Santhia sub-district of Pabna District. A gun was also recovered from the spot of arrest.

  • August 26: Police arrested a Purbo Banglar Communist Party- Janajudhho faction (PBCP-J) cadre, identified as Azmol Ali, and recovered two bombs from his possession at Bamundi village of Meherpur District. Azmot is a bomb maker of the outfit, Police said.

  • August 16, 2011: A cadre of the banned militant outfit PBCP-Janajuddho faction was caught by local residents of Chuadanga town in Kushtia and handed over to the Police. The arrested militant was identified as Hanef alias Jalal. He was wanted in several criminal cases including two for murder, Police said.

  • August 3: Outlaws belonging to Janajuddho faction of Purbo Bangla Communist Party (PBCP) have resumed their criminal activities including extortion and murder. Amid signs of the fugitive outlaws' reappearance in the area, five Police Stations in Khulna city and nine others in the Khulna District have been put on high alert.

  • May 22: Police arrested two cadres of Janajudhha faction of the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Janajudhha), identified as Mohammad Bablu Khan (42) and Mohammad Rohomot Ali, from Santhia sub-district of Pabna District.

  • May 6: Team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 raided at Alokdia bazar of Sadar sub-district in Chuadanga District and arrested two cadres, identified as Joynal (45) and Abul Kasem (35) of Purbo Bangla Communist Party-Red Flag (PBCP-Red Flag) and recovered two Light Gun (LGs) and four bullets from them.

  • May 5: A team from Mirpur Police Station raided the house of Lintu a PBCP-Red Flag cadre and arrested him with a LG and two bullets.

  • May 3: The prime accused in a case filed for killing three Policemen in July 20, 2010, identified as 'regional leader' of Purbo Banglar Communist Party PBCP-Sarbahara faction, Rafique alias Chalak Rafique (32), was shot dead in Bera Sub-District in Pabna District. The Police suspected that Rafique, might have been killed by rivals in internal party conflict.

  • April 29: An 'operational commander' of Janajuddha faction of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML), identified as Ziarul Rahman (28) alias Bomaru Zia, was killed by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Goashbari village under Ataikula Police Station in Pabna District. Ziarul Rahman (28) alias Bomaru Zia, was the 'operational commander' of the outlawed party. Police recovered a shutter gun, a pistol, two magazines, one cartridge and five bullets from the spot.

  • April 26: The Ataikula Unit 'Chief' of Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP)-Red Flag, Tikka Khan (35) was killed in an encounter in Ataikula in Pabna District. Police recovered a sawed-off shotgun and six bullets from the spot. This was the fourth 'crossfire' incident in the District this year.

  • April 16: A 'regional leader' of Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) Red Flag faction was arrested in Santhia sub-district of Pabna District. The arrestee Mohamad Islam Khan (35) was from Lakhmipur village in the Santhia sub-district.

  • April 9: Police arrested two cadres, Eusuf Ali (28) and Ershad Ali (25) of outlawed Purbo Bangla Communist Party (PBCP)-Sharbahara Faction from Nuruddinpur area of Sujanagar Sub-District of Pabna District. The arrestees hailed from Indrajitpur village in Sujanagar Sub-District.

  • March 31: A regional leader of Janajudhho faction of the Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP- Janajudhho), Mohammad Kutub Ali Pramanik (35), of Boro-Duglapara village of Chatmohar sub-district of Pabna District was arrested on March 31 at a village in the aforesaid sub-district. A Long Gun (LG) and two bullets were recovered from his possession.

  • March 22: Kushtia Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a cadre of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) faction Red Flag and recovered two bombs from him at Zafarpur intersection in Chuadanga town of Chuadanga District. He was identified as Masud Rana (22). Following confessional statement of Rana, RAB raided several places in Chuadanga town but failed to arrest his accomplices.

  • March 1: ‘Regional leader’ of the Janajuddha faction of the PBCP-ML, identified as Ismail Hossain (40), was killed allegedly by his rivals in Sadar sub district of Pabna District.

  • February 9: Regional Commander’ of the Red Flag faction of the PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Mohammad Azibor Rahman (35), of Falia in Ataikula sub-district of Pabna District was killed in a 'shootout' between his cohorts and Security Forces (SFs) at Chatmohor sub-district of Pabna District.

  • February 3: A ‘regional commander’ of the PBCP-Red Flag was shot dead by the Police in the Ataikula sub-district of Pabna District. The deceased, Abdul Hamid alias Thosha Hamid (32), son of Abdur Rashid of Kakilakhali village in Ataikula, was accused in a number of cases including three for murder, Police sources said.

  • February 2: A ‘military commander’ of the PBCP-Janajuddha was killed and another militant injured in 'shootouts' with Police in Santhia sub-district of Pabna District. The dead was identified as Hafizul Islam Reza (35), while the injured as A.l. Amin (26), a cadre of PBCP-Red Flag. Reza was accused in six cases including four for murder, Police sources said.

  • January 23: Five cadres belonging to the PBCP-Janajuddha were arrested after gunfight with Police at Jorgasa village under Atghoria sub-district of Pabna District. The arrested cadres were identified as yusuf Ali, Saiful Islam, Chapu Sardar, Fazlul Islam and Moksed Biswas. Police recovered a rifle and three bullets from the spot.

  • January 11: A cadre belonging to the PBCP-Red Flag identified as Akbar Hossain alias Akubbar (30) was hacked and shot dead by unidentified persons at Shibpur Charpara village under Ataikula Police station of Pabna District. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Atikula Police station Mohammad Habibur Rahman said Akubbar might have been killed due to internal feud of the outfit.

  • January 10: The RAB personnel arrested four cadres, belonging to the PBCP-Janajuddha after a gunfight at Ramnagar in Gangni sub-district of Meherpur District. RAB personnel recovered one 9-mm pistol, five bullets, nine bombs, one kilogram of gunpowder, some bomb-making materials, including wires and 250 leaflets of the outfit.

  • January 9: A cadre belonging to the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Sujon alias Loba (30) was hacked to death at border village Shatgasa. The party rivals might have killed him over past enmity, Officer in Charge of Chatmohar Police Station said.

  • January 5: In Pabna District, Police arrested a militant belonging to the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Mohammad Korban Ali (35) along with firearm from Shatgasa village of Atghoria sub-district.

  • January 4: The Police personnel arrested three cadres belonging to the PBCP-Red Flag the remote Ranigram village of Pabna District. A firearm and ammunition were also seized from them. The arrestees were identified as Mohammed Ali (25), Motaleb Hossain (26), and Mohammadd Bakul Hossain (30), of village Haripur of Ataikula union in Pabna Sadar sub-district.

  • January 2: A militant belonging to the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Abdul Aziz (30), of village Balughata was killed by the outfit rivals in Faridpur sub-district of Pabna District. The deceased, accused in several cases, including two for murder, is a listed criminal.

2010

  • December 26: Police personnel arrested a top cadre of the Red Flag faction of the PBCP-ML-Red Flag, identified as Rakib Uddin (30), in Chuadanga District and recovered five bombs.

  • December 21: A regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Anisur Rahman alias Anis Master (45), was killed in a shootout between his cohorts and the RAB at Varara village of Pabna Sadar sub-district of Pabna District. The RAB personnel recovered a rifle, one revolver, an LG, 10 bullets and some sharp weapons from the spot.

  • December 16: A cadre belonging to the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Mosharraf Hossain alias Bomaru Musa (35) was killed in a gunfight with the Police in Doulatpur sub-district of Kushtia District. He was accused in eight cases including two for killings, Police said.

  • December 8: Police arrested Monirul Islam alias Pitpite Sumon (32), Khulna Unit ‘operation commander’ of PBCP-Janajuddha in Dhaka. According to the Police, the arrestee was wanted for long in connection with four murder and 12 other criminal cases filed against him with Jessore Sadar Police Station, Narail Sadar Police Station, Lohagara Police Station of Narail and Phultala Police Station of Khulna District. He was also directly involved in the murders of shrimp exporter Azad Gazi and Damodar UP, Sarder Abu Saeed Badal of Phultala sub-district of Khulna District and bomb attack on Phultala sub-district chairman Sarder Alauddin Mithu.

  • December 3: A regional leader of the PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Abdullah Mohammad Nazimuddin alias Honda Babu, (30) was shot dead by the RAB in a shoot out in Dhaka’s Malibagh area. RAB officials claimed Babu was a listed criminal of the area. He was accused in several cases, including killing and extortion, filed with different Police stations. Several general diaries were also lodged against him.

  • December 2: Police arrested a cadre of the PBCP-Janajuddha identified as Badar Uddin alias Bodu (29), from Nawdapara village in Gangni sub-district of Meherpur District. Police said Bodu was one of the culprits who were making bombs at a house in the village on November 13.

  • November 30: A top leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha identified as Mohammad Nurul Islam (38) was killed by unidentified criminals a in remote village of Faridpur sub-district of Pabna District. He was accused in several cases, Police said.

  • November 29: A militant belonged to the PBCP-Red Flag identified as Mohammad Ziarul Islam (30), was killed by the unidentified criminals in Pabna District. According to the Police sources criminals hacked Ziarul to death at Alokdiar water body of Pabna District in a lonely spot in the midnight.

  • November 26: Police personnel in Pabna District arrested two militants of PBCP-Janajudhha, identified as Mohammad Abdus Sattar of village Rangamati in Santhia sub-district and Mohammad Almas alias Boma Almas of village Goashbari in Ataikula sub-district.

    Police arrested a regional leader of the PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Korban Hossain, alias Kuru (35), in Meherpur District.

  • November 24: A regional leader of PBCP-Janajuddha identified as Abdul Kuddus alias Boma Kuddus, (35), was killed in a 'shootout' between his cohorts and RAB at Garamara village in Jhenaidah Sadar sub-district of Jhenaidah District. He was wanted in eight cases, including murders, Police said.

  • November 23: Two cadres of PBCP were arrested in Jhenidah and Khulana Districts. Police arrested a cadre of PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Faruk Sardar (38) from his house under Harinakundu sub-district in Jhenidah. He is accused in five cases including murder filed with Harinakundu, Islamic varsity Police station, Kumarkhali and Alamdanga Police stations. In a separate incident the Police arrested a cadre of the PBCP-ML, identified as Mizanur Rahman Mizan, (38), Bagmara area of Rupsha sub-district in Khulna District. Police said he was wanted in a number of cases including murder.

    Police arrested a regional leader of the PBCP-Red Flag faction at Ratanpur village in Faridpur sub-District of Pabna District. Another militant of the PBCP-Janajuddha, who was injured in bomb explosion at Lakhhipur in Ataikula sub-district of Pabna District and recuperating at a hospital, was arsrted by the Police on the same day.

  • November 21: Police arrested five cadres of the PBCP-Janajuddha from Ataikula sub-district of Pabna District in early hours.

  • November 15: A regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Sakibul, 38, was arrested at Keshabpur village in Alamdanga sub-district of Chuadanga District. Police said he was wanted in six cases including four for murder.

  • November 9: Police remanded a cadre of PBCP-Janajuddha for three days. Earlier, Pabna District Detective Branch of Police arrested Nistar Ali alias Jahid from Shukchar village of Sadar sub-district of Pabna District on November 8 and recovered a Sub Machine Gun and 55 bullets from his possession.

  • November 8: A cadre belonged PBCP- Janajuddha, identified as Mistar Ali alias Jahid (45) was arrested along with firearms and ammunitions from the remote shoal area of Sadar sub-district of Pabna District. He is also one of the prime accused in the case for killing three unarmed Policemen at Dhalarchar in Bera sub-district on July 20, 2010.

  • October 28: A cadre of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Rana Ahmed (27), was shot dead by internal rivals of the outfit at Kuabasi village in Chatmohar sub-district of Pabna District.

  • October 26: Police arrested a regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Hafizur Rahman alias Hafiz alias Raju (40), at Hemayetpur village under Gangni sub-district of Meherpur District and recovered firearms and bombs from his possession. Police also recovered one shutter gun, two cartridges and three bombs from a place at the village. Police said Hafizur was an accused in 12 cases, including three for murder, filed with different Police stations in Meherpur and Chuadanga Districts.

  • October 24: Police arrested a cadre of the PBCP- Janajudhha, identified as Anup Roy (35), at Chararboti village under Dakope sub-district of Khulna District. According to the Police, Anup Roy had surrendered to Police laying down his arms in 1999 in response to a call by the Government to take advantage of general amnesty.

  • October 21: Police arrested two cadres of PBCP-Janajudhha, identified as Mohammad Shajahan Ali (48) and Mohammad Jalal Uddin (35), along with two firearms at Kalogram village in Santhia sub-district of Pabna District. The Police also recovered two guns from the outlaws.

  • October 20: Two cadres of the PBCP-Janajudhha, identified as Siddique Pramanik (35) and Bishu Pramanik (26) were killed in Pabna District. According to the Police sources, Siddique Pramanik succumbed to his injuries after a bomb attacked by his rivals on him in Ataikula sub-district of Pabna District. In a different incident unidentified assailants chopped Bishu Pramanik to death at Hatbaria Boalia Bazar in Santhia sub-district of the Pabna District.

    A central leader of the PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Faruk Ahmed Paban (40) was killed in a shootout between RAB and his cohorts in Ishwardi sub-district of Pabna District.

  • October 13: The Police personnel arrested a regional leader of PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Abdus Salam (34), in Ataikula sub-district of Pabna District and recovered two pipe guns from his possession. Salam is an accused in several cases including one for murder, the Police said.

  • October 11: Four cadres of the PBCP-Janajudhha were lynched by a mob at Nolkola village of Kushtia Sadar sub-district in Kushtia District. The deceased were identified as Rezaul Karim (23), Robiul Islam (30), Sirajul Islam (40) and Sagar alias Sagar Dakat (39). They hailed from Mirpur sub-district of Kushatia District.

    A cadre of the PBCP-ML-Red Flag identified as Aksed Ali (39) was killed in a shootout between his cohorts and law enforcers at Mohiskhola village in Gangni sub-district of Meherpur District. The Police recovered one foreign-made rifle, one light gun, four bullets and eight bombs from the incident site.

  • October 5/6: Three cadres of the PBCP were arrested with firearms in Jhenaidah and Kushtia districts. In Jhenaidah District, Police arrested a cadre of PBCP-Janajudhha faction at his from at Kotchandpur sub-district headquarters. They also recovered a shutter gun from his possession. In Kushtia District Police arrested two cadres of PBCP-Red Flag faction at Hemayetpur village in Gangni sub-district and recovered a gun from his possession. Police later recovered a shutter gun from a hideout of the outlaws at the village.

  • September 29: The Police arrested a cadre of the PBCP-ML, identified as Halim, along with one shutter gun and two bullets in Alamdanga sub-district of Chuadanga District. Acting on a tip-off, the Police raided Alhera High School premises at Darshana in the sub-district where the cadres of PBCP-ML were holding a meeting at around 12:30am.

  • September 25: The Kushtia District Police rescued the college student abducted by PBCP-Janajudhha cadres on September 21. Police arrested three persons including a journalist for their alleged involvement in the abduction of the student.

  • September 21: Cadres of PBCP-Janajudhha abducted a college student, Rakibul Hasan, from Majampur Rail Gate area in Kushtia District

    A cadre of PBCP-Janajudhha, Korban Ali, was arrested by the Police at Kursha village under Mirpur sub-district in Kushtia District. Firearms, ammunition and bombs were recovered from his possession. Police also recovered one LG, two bullets and five bombs from his residence.

  • September 17: The Police arrested an operative of PBCP-Janajudhha, identified as Mohammad. Firoz Pramanik (28), along with firearms from Rangamati village of Santhia sub-district of Pabna District.

  • September 10: Ataikula Police personnel arrested Mohammad Abdul Hakim (42), a 'regional leader' of the PBCP-Janajudhha from Goashbari village in Pabna District. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Ataikula Police station Mohammad Sirajul Islam said that Hakim was accused in 12 murder cases.

  • September 5: A cadre of the PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Abdul Rashid (52), was killed in a shootout between RAB and his cohorts in Santhia sub-district of Pabna District. Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB raided Bilshalangi village of the sub-district where a gang of outlaws was holding a secret meeting, RAB said.

  • September 2: The Police arrested Mohammad Abdul Majid alias Driver Majid (40), a regional leader of PBCP-Red Flag, from Pabna District. Acting on a tip-off, the Police raided Shalonda village of the District at around 3:00 A.M. and arrested Majid at a house.

  • August 27: Five armed cadres of PBCP-Janajudhha killed Damodar Union Parishad Chairman, Sarder Abu Saeed Badal, on August 16 in Khulana District. Revealing this during his confessional statement to the Court of Judicial Magistrate, ‘operation commander’ of PBCP-Janajudhha , Bomaru Mamun, who was arrested in Narail town of Khulna District on August 26, said that he and four other cadres joined the killing operation after receiving a big amount of money from Badal's rivals. Expelled BCL leader Mehedi Anam Ranju played a key role in hiring the militants and he was the mastermind behind the murder, Bomaru Mamun told the court.

  • August 24: A leader of PBCP- Red Flag was killed in a 'shootout' between RAB and his cohorts in Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi District. The deceased Elahi Baksh Mithu (40) of Baje Goalkandi village was the ‘regional commander’ of PBCP-Red Flag in Chapainawabganj District. A RAB trooper, Havildar M Abdul Wahab, was also injured in the incident.

  • August 22/23: Biplob, identifying himself as ‘operation commander’ of PBCP-Janajudhha, now in charge of Khulna District and Khulna metropolitan city threatened to kill five people in the District including three Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNO, Officer in charge of sub-district). All the three UNOs and two others made General Diary entries with Police Stations concerned seeking security of life.

  • August 18: The RAB recovered one rifle, two bullets, one matchet (a broad heavy knife) and an axe in Meherpur District from a place where the PBCP-Red Flag cadres were holding secret meeting. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the operatives managed to escape from the incident site.

  • August 16: A leader of the PBCP-ML-Red Flag, identified as Atiar Rahman alias Ati (40), accused in a number of cases including five for murder, was killed at Baniapukur village in Gangni sub-district of Kushtia District. The deceased Ati was the Meherpur District chief of Red Flag Faction of the PBCP-ML. According to Police sources, a gang picked up Atiar at gunpoint from the house, took him to Pirtola field and shot him dead.

  • August 13: Police arrested a cadre of the PBCP-Janajudhha identified as Mohammad Rashed Pramanik (30), after half an hour of gunfight with his gang at Santhia sub-district of Pabna District. A rifle, a shutter gun, seven rounds of bullets, 11 powerful bombs, and three machetes were recovered from the spot.

  • August 12: The Police arrested an "area commander" belonging to the PBCP-ML, identified as Bulbul Islam Rana (32), from Kumarkhali sub-district of Kushtia District. The Police also recovered a shutter gun and five bullets from his possessions.

  • August 9: Police arrested a cadre of PBCP-Janajudhha, identified as Mozaffar Ali Sana (32), from Panchrasta intersection in Tala sub-district of Satkhira District. Local people caught him from Panchrasta intersection when he came to meet his party members.

  • August 7: A leader of the PBCP-Janajudhha, identified as Nasir Goldar (36), was arrested on charge of extortion and other crimes at Sajiara village in Dumuria sub-district of Khulana District. Police said recently Nasir was released from jail and started reorganising his cadres to collect illegal toll in the sub-district.

  • August 6: The Police arrested a top leader belonging to PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Nuru Mandal, from Char Mukuri village in Bera sub-district of Pabna District in connection with the killing of three Policemen on July 20. "Nuru Mandal is one of the top outlaw militant of Pabna and Rajbari region and accused of 20 cases. He is also a convicted killer of Sub Inspector Hedayet Ullah. He is the key person involved in the killing of the three Policemen," said Sheikh Juillur Rahman, Officer in Charge of Bera Police Station.

    Two more cadres belonging to PBCP-Red Flag were arrested at Ashulia in Dhaka in connection with the killing of three Policemen in Bera sub-district of Pabna District on July 20. The arrestees were Mohad Akkas Sardar (55), Kasalia village, and Nizam Fakir (50), of Rajdhardiar village in Dhalarchar of Bera sub-district. With the two, the number of arrestees in connection with the killing now stands at nine.

  • August 4: A local BNP leader, identified as Abdul Alim (44), was critically injured in a bomb attack in Gangni sub-district of Meherpur District. Police arrested Abdus Salam and Ariful, cadres of PBCP-J for the attack.

  • August 3: Two regional leaders of the BCP were killed in a "factional gunfight" at Bhatsala in Pangsha sub-district of Rajbari District. The deceased were identified as Abdul Aziz (38), and Dipu Kumar Biswas, 30, of Kashba Majail area, Police said. They were each leading a separate faction of BCP following a longstanding dispute over party leadership.

  • July 25: The Kushtia District Police arrested a top cadre of Janajuddha faction of the PBCP identified as Mazharul Islam Swapan alias Moza (34), from a village under Gangni sub-district in Meherpur District. He is accused in several cases including that of two murders filed with Gangni Police station.

  • July 22: Police arrested two cadres belonging to Red Flag faction of the PBCP identified as Nader Pramanik and Wajed Ali, in connection with the killing of three Policemen on July 20, in Pabna District as they launched an intensive hunt in Pabna and adjoining Districts to capture the assassins.

  • July 20: Police sources reports that militants belonging to Red Flag faction of the PBCP shot dead three Policemen, identified as Sub-inspector Kafil Uddin, Nayek Abdul Wahed and Constable Shafique, in Bera sub-district of Pabna Distrct. Locals hinted that the PBCP-Red Flag might have killed the Policemen to take revenge for continuous crackdown on them by the Police.

  • July 5: A leader of the PBCP identified as Moslem Moral alias Navy, also ‘second-in-command’ of 'Salam Bahini', who was injured in a mob beating during robbery at Atulia Bazar in Tala sub-district in Satkhira District on July 3, subsequently succumbed to his injury. The Police said that he was wanted in several cases including that of murder.

  • June 24: The Police arrested a top cadre of the PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Asadul (28), in Chuadanga and recovered a cocktail and bomb making materials from the house of Pabna District.

  • June 6: A cell phone caller introducing himself as a leader of outlawed PBCP has given death threat to ten persons including academics, journalists, a political leader, a businessman and a senior police officer of Khulna if they fail to give toll as per demand.

  • June 4: The Mongla Police arrested a cadre belonging to the PBCP-ML identified as Zahid Fakir ,24, from Mirpur of Dhaka. Officer-in-charge of Mongla Police station Kazi Salahuddin said that the outlaw was wanted in several criminal cases including extortions and murders filed against him with different Police stations of Khulna and Bagerhat Districts during last seven years.

  • May 18: A regional leader of the PBCP, Asadul Islam (38), was killed in an encounter between the Police and his cohorts at Nehalpur village under Sadar sub-district in Chuadanga District. Sub-Inspector of Sadar Police Station was also injured during the encounter. A light gun and three bullets were recovered by the Police from the incident site.

  • May 6: A cadre belonging to Red Flag faction of the PBCP, identified as Mithu Pramanik (34), was killed by its rival Janajuddha faction of the same outfit at Ataikula in Pabna District.

  • April 13: Three cadres of the PBCP were arrested in Sirajganj and Satkhira Districts. They were identified as Abdul Mannan (35), Abdul Hannan (32) and Bidyut Kumar Bachchu (38).

  • February 10: A PBCP "Janajudhha" faction cadre, identified as Abdus Salam, was killed in a bomb attack in Goyashbari village of Pabna District.

  • February 9: RAB personnel arrested a cadre of the Red flag faction of the PBCP at Purba Malshadah village under Gangni sub district of the Meherpur District and recovered a revolver and two bullets from his possession.

    The Marxist Leninist faction of the PBCP threatened to take avenge of the killings of its cadres including its ‘general secretary’ Jamal Uddin alias Robi alias Nuruzzaman Sumon.

  • February 3: A bomber belonging to Janajuddha faction of the PBCP, identified as Habibur Rahman alias 'Bomaru' Habi (28), was arrested by the Khulna District Police from Dumuria bus stop in Khulna District

  • January 31: Meherpur Police arrested three Left Wing Extremists in Bamundi petrol pump area of Gangni sub-district in Meherpur District. The arrestees, identified as Jamrul Islam, second-in-command of Purba Banglar Maobadi Congress a new faction of the PBCP, and his accomplices Halim and Mohirul. They are accused in several cases including that of murder, extortion, bomb attack and abduction, said the Police.

  • January 27: Police arrested a cadre of 'Janajudhha' faction of the PBCP in Pabna town and recovered firearms from his possession.

  • January 21: A 'regional leader' of the Janajudhha faction of the PBCP, identified as Makbul Hossain, was shot dead at village Lakhmipur Charpara area under Ataikula Police Stationin in Pabna District.

  • January 19: RAB arrested ‘regional chief’ of Red Flag faction of the PBCP, identified as Abdul Kader, at Nurpur bypass area in Pabna town.

  • January 15: Two cadres belonging to the PBCP-Janajuddha, including a ‘local commander’, were killed in a bomb explosion at a field at Baro Mangalgram village in Faridpur sub-district in Pabna District. The ‘local commander’, identified as Shajahan Ali alias Kuza Shajahan, died on the explosion site while another cadre Mohammad Rafiq died later. Police and local people said that the explosion took place when the extremists were making bombs.

  • January 4: Police arrested two PBCP cadres along with their party posters in Manasa Bazaar area of Fakirhat sub district in Bagerhat District.

2009

  • December 23: Police recovered the bullet-hit body of the Janajuddha faction of the PBCP cadre from Mongla Port area in the Bagerhat District.

  • December 20: Police in a special drive arrested ten 'top-level members' of PBCP from Boroitola and Paikora villages in Tarash sub district of Sirajganj District.

    PBCP cadres threatening to kill five people if they stand against their 'movement', pasted posters and distributed leaflets at Katagari Bazaar in Tarash sub district of Sirajganj District.

  • December 18: The dead body of a regional leader of the PBCP-Red flag, identified as Saiful Islam Saban alias Sabai, was found on a railway track in Alamganga sub district of Chuadanga District.

  • December 17: At least 10 persons were injured when suspected cadres belonging to the Jonojuddho faction of the PBCP carried out an attack on a village at Belkuchi sub-district in the Sirajganj District.

  • December 8: A cadre of the Janajuddha faction of the PBCP, identified as Sheikh Murad, was killed in an encounter with the Police at Brahmandia village of Fakirhat Sub- District in Bagerhat District. Assistant Sub Inspector Abdul Aziz, Constable Waziar Rahman and Constable Fazlul Huq sustained bullet injuries during the encounter. Two shutter guns, 21 bullets and seven bullet caps were recovered from the incident site. Murad, who was on the run, was sentenced to death in connection with the murder of eminent shrimp exporter and Fakirhat sub-district Awami League leader S. M. Farhad Hossain. He was also accused in seven other cases including three for murders.

  • December 4: Two cadres of the PBCP, identified as Rokon and Sagar, were killed in an encounter in Jagati village of Kushtia District. Police also recovered one pistol, one LG and seven bullets from the encounter site. Police said that Rokon is accused in 12 cases including four for murder while Sagar is accused in 11 cases including three for murder.

  • December 3: Two top leaders of the PBCP were killed in an encounter with SFs at Kedarganj area in Chuadanga District. The deceased were identified as ‘general secretary’ of PBCP Jamal alias Robi alias Nuruzzaman Sumon and Sunnat Ali, the ‘second-in-command’ of PBCP. Two personnel of RAB -- ASI Aminul Islam Amin and Constable Manik -- were also injured in the incident.

  • December 1: PBCP cadres kidnapped three persons and held them for ransom and having failed to realise the money they killed them and buried the bodies in a graveyard in Taragunia graveyard under Daulatpur sub-district in Kushtia District. The dead bodies were recovered on December 1 following a confessional statement of Rokunuzzaman alias Manik, a top cadre of outlawed PBCP arrested on November 30. Police quoting the arrested cadre said that a gang led by Manik abducted Mehedi Hasan Sohag from Majampur area in Kushtia on November 1. They later demanded a ransom of BNR 3 million fromSohag's family. Police also added that the cadres killed the abductees in between November 15 and 20 as their families failed to pay the ransom and dumped the bodies atTaragunia graveyard.

  • November 27: A regional leader of the Red Flag faction of the PBCP, identified as Chand Ali alias 'Boma' Chand, was killed in an encounter with the Police at Madarbaria village of Santhia Sub-District under Pabna District. Police recovered recovered a shutter gun and eight bullets from the encounter site.

  • November 24 : The RAB in the same night arrested a cadre belonging to the Red flag faction of the PBCP, identified as Tofazzal Hossain Tofa, with a shutter gun and two bullets from Nurdaha village in Santhia sub-district in Pabna District. Tofa is reportedly an accused in several cases including murder, loot and robbery.

  • November 17: A cadre of the Janajuddha faction PBCP, identified as Hasan alias Boma Hasan alias Batam, was killed in a encounter with the Police at Baniakanda village under Jhenidah District.

  • November 16: Two cadres of the PBCP were killed during an encounter with the RAB personnel at Jalkar area in the Madaripur District. The duo was identified as Lutfor Rahman Khalasi and his younger brother Khairul Haque Khalasi.

    The SFs arrested two PBCP-Janajuddha cadres in the Pabna District. The Rapid Action Battalion personnel arrested Akkas Ali from Darisardiar village along with a firearm while the Ataikula Police arrested Saheb Ali from Sadullahpur village.

  • November 15: A cadre of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Ilias Hossain Mamun, was killed in an encounter with the Police Khalishakundi village under Daulatpur sub-district in Kushtia District.

    Badsha alias Badsha Bhai, regional leader of the Red Flag faction of the PBCP, was beaten to death at Roypur under Gangni sub-district in Meherpur District.

  • November 14: A suspected cadre of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Emdadul Khalifa, was arrested while extorting money from a businessman in the Main Road area of Mongla sub-district in the Bagerhat District.

  • November 12: A cadre of the Red Flag faction of the PBCP, identified as Abdul Halim, was hacked to death at village Korial in the Santhia sub-district of Pabna District.

  • November 9: The chief of the Janajuddha faction of the PBCP-Janajuddha in Pabna District, identified as Mohammed Kamruzzaman Oli, was shot dead by Police during an encounter in the Faridpur District. He was reportedly wanted for three murders and had been in hiding since the caretaker Government came to power in 2007.

  • November 7: A cadre of the PBCP-red Flag, identified as Suja Uddin alias Joy Babu, was arrested in Chuadanga District.

  • October 30 : Police arrested a ‘regional commander’ of the PBCP, identified as Abdul Jalil, along with a locally-made pistol, a magazine, two bullets and four cartridges, at Bhagalpur village in the Goalanda sub-district of Rajbari District.

  • October 28: Police arrested a PBCP cadre, identified as Afsar Ali, from Paikora village under Tarash sub-district in the Sirajganj District. He is reportedly wanted in the trader Abul Kalam Azad murder case.

  • October 26: The RAB arrested two PBCP cadres, identified as Ikramul Haq and Laltu, at Khadimpur sub-district in the Chuadanga District. The RAB also recovered a pistol and two bullets hidden at Khadimpur graveyard on the revelation of the duo. Ikramul, and Laltu were reportedly accomplices of the PBCP regional leader Arif Ahmed.

  • October 25 : The RAB arrested a cadre of the Red Flag faction of the PBCP, along with arms at Chandrapur village in the Bagmara sub-district in Rajshahi District.

    Two suspected cadres of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Aliullah and Hossain, were arrested from the remote village of Chatmohar sub-district under Pabna District.

  • October 21: Police arrested four militants of the PBCP-Janajuddha along with bombs in the Ataikula sub-district of Pabna District. Acting on a tip-off, Police personnel raided a place at Bulbaria village where some PBCP-Janajuddha faction cadres were holding a meeting at around 3:00pm (BST). Police arrested four cadres while the others managed to escape. Those arrested were identified as Rafique Kamar, Shahin, Imrul Islam, and Mohammed Nazrul Islam.

  • October 20: A regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Jamal Uddin (38), was killed in an encounter with Police in Chatmohor sub district in Pabna District.

    Police arrested Hanif and Shahjahan, cadres of the Red Flag faction of the PBCP from Chatmohor.

    The PBCP cadres distributed hundreds of leaflets and pasted posters at different places in the nine sub-districts of Sirajganj District, creating panic among the locals. "The Awami League has cheated people in the name of bringing change in the country. Before the election, they promised for a change and a digital Bangladesh. But now they have spread acts of criminalism, tender manipulation and looting people's property," read the leaflets.

  • October 8: Two cadres of the PBCP-Red Flag and PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Delwar Hossain Delu alias Apu (30) and Aslam Khan (40) were killed in separate encounters in the Khulna and Bagerhat Districts.

  • October 3: In an encounter at a brick-kiln in Bujrogpara area in Chuadanga District, Abdur Rashid alias Mollah Rashid, a regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha was shot dead while his accomplices managed to escape. Police recovered a shutter gun and three bullets from the encounter site. Rashid was accused in 12 murder cases, including journalist Bazlur Rahman murder, Police said. Rashid was reportedly an aide to PBCP-Janajuddha founder  Abdur Rashid Malitha Tapan alias Dada Tapan, who was killed in encounter with RAB in June 18, 2008.

  • October 1: A regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Riazul Haq Masud alias Bidi Masud (32), was killed in an encounter with the Police and RAB at Chulkathi Palpara village. During the encounter four Police and RAB members were also injured. Police recovered three firearms, one sharp weapon, 29 rounds of bullet and five cartridges from the encounter site. Police said that Masud was wanted in 15 cases.

    Two cadres of the PBCP-Red Flag, who threatened to kill the SP of Bagerhat District and officer-in-charge (OC) of the Fakirhat Police Station, were arrested by Police. The arrestees were identified as Tapan Das, and Banani Das and hailed from Noapara village under Fakirhat sub district of Bagerhat District. OC of Fakirhat Police Station Salahuddin Mizan said that Tapan was arrested from Khulna city while Banani from her village home. The hunt for two others -- Khashrul Islam of Gopalganj and Riadul Islam is going on, he added. 

  • September 29: A regional leader of the PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Kamirul Islam alias Hamidul (45), was killed in an encounter with Police at Zuranpur village in Chuadanga District. Two Policemen were also reportedly injured during the encounter. Police recovered one pipe gun and one shutter gun and two bullets from the encounter site. Reportedly, Hamidul was a close associate of the PBCP-Red Flag founder Rony Biswas, who was killed in an encounter with Rapid Action Battalion in 2008. Hamidul was accused in 12 cases, including six for murder

  • September 27-28: Cadres of the PBCP-Red Flag, gave death threatening to the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Bagerhat District, Mohammed Mizanur Rahman and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fakirhat Police Station Salahuddin Mian over telephone said the SP on September 28. They also demanded release of four extremists arrested on September 26 and threatened to blow up Fakirhat Police Station and all puja mandaps (worship ramps) of the Bagerhat District unless the demand was not fulfilled. The leftwing extremists-- Humayun Morol, Azimuddin, Alam Sheikh and Abdullah Sheikh--are now in Bagerhat jail. Bagerhat Police stepped up security at all Police Stations of the District following threats to top Police officials by the PBCP-Red Flag Cadres. In addition, PBCP-Red Flag cadres circulated leaflets at different places of the Bagerhat District in the night of September 27 demanding the release of their cadres and stoppage of crossfire, and called upon the toiling masses to "participate in the ongoing guerrilla fight against capitalists and feudal lords to establish the rule of the proletariat."

  • September 25-26: Three PBCP cadres were killed in encounter with SFs in the capital Dhaka and Kushtia District. They were identified as Mohon Malitha, Aroz Ali and Edu Mondol. In Kushtia, Mohon Malitha was killed in an encounter with RAB at Lalnagar village in Daulatpur Sub-District. Acting on a tip-off, RAB-12 raided Lalnagar where PBCP cadres, led by Mohon, were holding a meeting at about 4:00am (BST) on September 26. RAB officials recovered one pipe gun and one bullet, two bombs and two knives from the incident site. Mohon was reportedly accused in seven cases, including six for murder, Daulatpur Police said. Aroz died in an encounter with the Kushtia District Police at Mollateghori in Kushtia town on September 25. One shutter gun, four bullets and two improvised bombs were recovered from the encounter site. He was reportedly accused in seven cases including three for murders and four for extortions filed with Gangni Police Station in Meherpur and Kushtia Police Station. Acting on a tip-off, the Police cordoned off a field at Ursha as a group of cadres including Edu Mondol were holding a meeting at about 3:00am (BST) on September 25. Police recovered one Chinese pistol and 16 bullets from the encounter site after the gunfight. Edu Mondol was reportedly accused in four cases including two for murders with Mirpur Police Station.

  • September 20: A regional leader of the Janajuddha faction of the PBCP, identified as Sukkur Ali alias Boma Sukkur (30), was killed in an encounter with the Police at Nandanpur of Pabna District. Acting on a tip-off, a team from Ataikula Police Station raided the Nandanpur intersection around 1:00am (BST) where Sukkur Ali and his accomplices were holding a meeting. Police recovered the dead body of Sukkur from the spot after the cadres managed to escape from the incident site. Police also recovered one shutter gun, two bullets from the spot. Sukkur was accused in six cases including murder, Police said.

  • September 10: A regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Tukun, was killed at Khalishakundi village in the Daulatpur sub-district of Kushtia District. Acting on a tiff off, a joint team of Daulatpur Police and RAB-12 raided Khalishakundi bazaar (market) at around 4:00am (BST). The cadres of the PBCP-Janajuddha outfit were reportedly holding a meeting there. Sensing the presence of the Security Forces (SFs), the cadres opened fire, which triggered the encounter. Tukun was found dead after his accomplices managed to flee the spot. Police also recovered one LG, five bullets and a sword from the spot. Tukun was accused in six cases, including four for murder filed with Daulatpur and Mirpur Police Stations.

  • September 4: Three cadres of the PBCP-Janajuddha were arrested during an encounter with the Police in the Pabna District. The arrestees, identified as Harun, Ruhul Amin and Rifat, had received injuries in the encounter. The rest of the militants, however, managed to escape from the incident site. Police recovered two bombs, three rounds of bullets and some sharp weapons from the incident site. Nibas Chandra Majhi, the Superintendent of Police in Pabna District, said the arrestees are listed criminals and also cadres of the PBCP-Janajuddha outfit.

  • August 27: Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Rapid Action Battalion surrounded Gangni sub-district council building in Meherpur District and arrested two cadres of the PBCP, identified as Suklal and Mashiur Rahman, at about 11:30pm (BST).

    The Khulna District Police arrested two cadres of the PBCP-Red Flag outfit, identified as Mostafa Kamal and Shamim Khan, at around 11:45pm on August 27. Police recovered a pipe gun and two cartridges from their possession.

  • August 26: A regional leader of the Red Flag faction of the PBCP, identified as Rahat Khan alias Nipu alias Zia, was killed in a encounter with Policemen at 2:30am (BST) at Dearha village in the Khulna District. He was wanted in six cases, including two for murder and two for robbery. Subsequently, Police recovered a gun, four rounds of ammunition and some leaflets from the spot.

  • August 25: A cadre of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Abdus Salam, was killed by party rivals at Chithulia village under Dogasi Union in Pabna District. Police said rival cadres chopped Salam to death near his residence and threw his body in a nearby pond.

  • August 22: A regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Naharul Islam, was killed in an encounter with the Police at Jagannathpur village in Kushtia District. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Daulatpur Police surrounded a field at Jagannathpur where a group of extremists led by Naharul were holding meeting at about 4.00am (BST). After an hour-long encounter, Police recovered the dead body ofNaharul along with one LG gun and 24 bullets from the incident site. However, the other militants managed to escape. Naharul was reportedly accused in at least 10 cases, including six of murder, Police said.

  • August 19: A ‘divisional commander’ of the outlawed PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Lutfor Rahman, was killed in encounter with the SFs at Chhoygharia in the Satkhira District. Police said that informed of a secret meeting of the outlawed outfit, a Police team cordoned off the area around 3:00am (BST). Lutfor died on the spot, said Police. Officer-in-Charge of the Sadar Police Station, Kamruzzaman, said that Lutfor was wanted in 12 cases, including three of murder, filed in the Tala, Dumuria, Kalaroa and Sadar Police Stations.

  • August 17: A regional leader of the outlawed Lal Pataka faction of the PBCP, identified as Rana alias Babu, was arrested in Chuadanga District. One rifle, one shutter gun, six bullets and four bombs were recovered from his possession. Rana was recently organising the outfit in Kushtia and Chuadanga, Police and Rapid Action Battalion sources said. Accused in at least a dozen cases, including five for murder in Kushtia and Chuadanga, Rana was reportedly a listed militant in the area.

    Police arrested a leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha from West Baniakhamar in Khulna District, suspecting his involvement in the murder of Juba League central leader Shahid Iqbal Bithar. The arrestee, identified as Ikram Hossain Siam alias Akash, is 'operations commander' of the PBCB- Janajuddha in charge of the Khulna city and District. Akash was shown arrested in Bithar murder case and taken on a three-day remand for interrogation. Akash was reportedly wanted in a case filed with Sonadanga Police Station of Khulna city for killing two Policemen in 1999 at Sheikhpara in the city, said Police Inspector Mamun Khan. He is also accused in several criminal cases filed with different Police Stations in the Greater Khulna region

  • August 10: A regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Abul Hashem, was hacked to death at Bokshipur village in the Pabna District. Police and locals said party rivals abducted Hashem from his village in the night of August 9. The Officer-in-charge of Pabna Police Station Motiur Rahman suspected that Hashem was killed due to an intra-party feud. "There were several cases including two of murder against him," the Officer said.

  • August 4: A regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Shahidul Islam alias Shahadat, was killed at village Mongolgram of Faridpur sub-district in the Pabna District. Police said his rivals chopped him to death at a field.

  • August 2: Three cadres of the PBCP-Janajuddha, including a regional leader, were killed in two separate incidents. Regional leader Jahangir Alam and a front ranking extremist of the outfit, identified as Yarul Islam, were shot dead in an encounter with the Police at Beel Amla area in the Mirpur District. Police said the duo were ‘most wanted’ outlaws in the District and belonged to Khalishakundi in the Daulatpur sub-district of Kushtia District. Subsequently, Police also recovered two pistols and 12 bullets from their possession.

    Another PBCP-Janajuddha cadre, identified as Nizamuddin alias Kosai Nizam, was lynched in the Sarishadanga Bazar area of Chuadanga District. Police said Nizam and his accomplices went to Sarishadanga Bazar at about 9:30pm to collect the money he had demanded from local businessmen. The businessmen, prepared to confront the gang, confined him in a shop and lynched him. Nizam's accomplices, however, managed to escape. Police also recovered a locally made gun with two bullets from his possession. Nizam was reportedly accused in nine cases, including four murders filed with the Alamdanga and Sadar Police Stations.

    July 31: A regional leader of the PBCP-Janjuddha was killed in an encounter with the SFs at Nabdah area in Chuadanga District. The deceased was identified as Mozam Ali. Subsequently, Police recovered one pistol and three bullets from the incident site.

  • July 28: Two top cadres of the PBCP-Red Flag were killed in a gun battle with the SFs in the Atrai sub-District of Naogaon District. They were identified as Abdus Salam alias Topu, who was the Naogaon regional chief of the outfit, and Jahangir alias Jalal, the outfit’s ‘military affairs commander’ in the Rajshahi region. Two soldiers sustained injuries in the incident.

  • July 23: Unidentified assailants shot dead a cadre of the outlawed PBCP at Harinakunda in the Jhenaidah District. The victim was identified as Ajibar Mandal, 40, son of Shefatullah, of Udoinagar village under Islami University Police Station in Kushtia District. Quoting locals, Police said a group of four persons took Ajibar to an isolated brickfield at Teltupi village of Harianakunda Sub District where they shot him dead.

  • July 15: A team of the RAB arrested five cadres of the Janajuddha faction of the PBCP, including a regional leader, and recovered firearms, ammunition and explosives from them at a hotel in Chuadanga District. The arrestees were identified as Sahanur Joardar, regional leader of Shailkupa Sub-District, Miron, Faruq, Selim and Saiful of Jhenidah District. RAB said that they came to hold a meeting with Janajuddha cadres of Chuadanga and adjacent areas in a bid to reorganise the outfit.

  • July 13 Joynal Hossain, a cadre of the Lal Pataka faction of the PBCP, was killed by his rivals within the outfit at Kastdah in the Gangni Sub-District of Meherpur District.

  • July 6: RAB personnel arrested four PBCP-Janajuddha cadres from Earshadpur secondary school ground under Alamdanga Sub-District in Chuadanga. According to RAB sources, the arrested extremists Amirul Islam alias Pancha, his wife Rehena Begum, Tahaj Uddin and Shahidul Islam had abducted a civilian Abul Hossain on July 3 night from Jhenidah town and had demanded Taka One million as ransom from his family. They were arrested while collecting the ransom amount and the abducted person was also rescued subsequently.

  • June 13: A PBCP regional leader was killed by rivals within the same outfit at Mongolgram village of Faridpur Sub-District of Pabna. Police identified the slain extremist as Mostak Hossain alias Mosto (35), of Mannan Nagar village.

  • June 13: RAB personnel arrested a PBCP-Janajuddha regional chief, identified as Ibrahim Khalil (35), from Baparipara area of Jhenidah District. Two firearms and three bullets were recovered from his possession.

  • June 3: RAB personnel arrested three PBCP-Janajuddha extremists at Jhenidah Sadar Sub-District in Jhenidah. They were identified as Nazimuddin, regional leader of the faction, and Asmat and Montu, cadres of the outfit. Five guns, 24 bullets and eight bombs were also recovered from their possession. During his interrogation, Nazimuddin confessed about his involvement in the February 27 killing of Golam Kibria of Ashwasthali village, the March 8 killing of Enamul Haq of Suti Durgapur village and the April 16 killing of Abdul Goni of Mirzapur village in 2009.

  • June 2: A suspected PBCP-Janajuddha extremist was killed at village Kuchiamora under Ataikula Police Station in the Pabna District. Police sources said Shipon Mondol of Kuchiamora was carrying a bomb, which suddenly exploded, killing him on the spot. Two other civilians were injured in the blast.

  • May 31: Police at Shibchar in the Madaripur District arrested a PBCP cadre on charges of stabbing his mother. A pistol and a round of bullet were recovered from the possession of the extremist, Abdul Jalil Mollah.

  • May 22: PBCP cadres distributed leaflets in Bagmara and Durgapur Sub-Districts urging people to support their activities. They also pasted posters on walls of houses and educational institutions at Raghunathpur, Kismat Ganokoir, Badail, Koyamajompur, Ujankhalsi of Durgapur and Mohonganj, Mandipara and Jamloi of Bagmara, eyewitnesses said.

  • May 13: RAB personnel arrested four armed cadres of the PBCP- ML faction from Radhuni hotel at Moilapota Road under Sonadanga Police Station in Khulna District. According to RAB sources, the extremists were caught while receiving Taka 3,000 from a businessman.

  • May 9: A cadre of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Saidur Rahman (32) was killed in a shootout between RAB personnel and PBCP cadres at Khaskarra village in Alamdanga Sub-District of Chuadanga on May 9. The PBCP cadres were holding a meeting at a mango orchad when RAB carried out the raid. A revolver, three bombs and 20 bullets were recovered from the site.

  • May 3: A PBCP- Janajuddha cadre, Altaf Hossain Fakir (32), was killed by rivals within the same outfit in the Faridpur Sub-District of Pabna District. Family members of the slain extremist told Police that a group of armed PBCP cadres came to his house and shot him dead.

  • April 28: A top-listed cadre of the PBCP-Janajuddha, identified as Siddiqur Rahman alias Biplob (28), was killed during an encounter between the RAB personnel and PBCP extremists at Ramchandrapur village in the Jhenidah District. A RAB trooper and a Policeman were injured during the encounter, which occurred when Security Forces raided a PBCP hideout in search of a trader who was abducted by the extremists on April 27 from Ganna union of the District. A revolver, four round bullets, one shutter gun, one motorcycle, two mobile phones, two hand bombs and a mobile SIM were recovered from the incident site.

  • April 28: PBCP cadres killed a local leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami in Ullapara Sub-District of Sirajganj District. The slain Jamaat leader has been identified as Saiful Islam of Aligram village who was president of the Baro Pangashi union unit of the JeI.

  • March 19: Two PBCP cadres were sentenced to 37-years imprisonment each for possessing illegal arms. The convicts were identified as Mohammed Ayub Hossain of Brittidebi village and Mohammed Ashraf Ali of Kacherkol village under Shailkupa Sub-District. According to prosecution, Police arrested the two PBCP cadres on August 29, 2003 and had recovered a gun with 32 bullets from their possession.

  • March 5: A speedy trial tribunal in Rajshahi sentenced 12 PBCP operatives to life imprisonment for their involvement in the killing of four persons. All the convicts were also fined Taka 10,000 each. According to the prosecution, four people suspected to belong to a rival extremist outfit had been killed by the PBCP cadres at Foliachapri Beel in the Pabna District on May 11, 2004.

  • February 23: The Speedy Trial Tribunal in Rajshahi sentenced six PBCP cadres to life imprisonment for their involvement in the killing of union council chairman Abdus Sobhan Chowdhury in Naogaon on August 30, 2002. The cadres were identified as Babu alias Sagor, Akbar-1, Abdus Sabur, Zahidul Islam, Abdul Latif and Chanchal. Each of them were also fined Taka 10,000 each.

  • February 19: In two separate incidents, the Sirajganj Police arrested five PBCP cadres, identified as Ershad Mahmud, Parish, Zahidul Islam, Ashraf Ali and Saiful Islam, from the Ullapara and Tarash areas. They were wanted in several cases, including murder, robbery and abduction, Police said.

  • January 11: Police arrested Boma Shumon, a cadre of the PBCP-Janajuddha, near the Deputy Election Commissioner's office at Sher-e-Bangla Road in Khulna city. Boma was wanted in six cases filed with different Police stations in Khulna city under Explosives Act in last four years.

  • January 2: RAB personnel arrested a cadre of the Janajuddha faction of the outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) at Dudshar village in Shailkupa Sub-District in Jhenidah. RAB also recovered a pistol and two bullets from his possession. The arrestee was identified as Badiuzzaman Badi alias Palash of Gangni in Meherpur District and confessed to his involvement with the outlawed outfit for a long time. Palash was an accused in at least five cases including four for murder, RAB added.

2008

  • December 26: Jhenidah District Police arrested a PBCP cadre, identified as Mahbubur Rahman alias Thandu, of Parbatttipur village in the Harinakunda sub-district of Jhenidah District.

  • December 23: Police arrested 13 PBCP cadres from different villages of remote Chalan Beel area under Tarash upazila (sub-district) in the Sirajganj District. The arrested cadres included the ‘regional second in command’ of the outfit, identified as Huzur Ali.

  • December 15: Police arrested a PBCP cadre, Mozam Sheikh (35) from Bollahvengur village at Raiganj in the Sirajganj district. The arrested extremist was an accused in robbery and abduction cases and was absconding since long.

  • December 12: Police arrested Kamal Bakhsh (27), a PBCP cadre at Boroberakharua village in Belkuchi sub-district of Sirajganj district. The arrested was described as an accused in a case filed in connection with the attack on Randhunibari police camp, looting of arms and killing of four policemen

  • December 11: A senior PBCP-Lal Pataka leader, Shahjahan alias Tiger (42) was killed in an encounter at Baruipara area in the Rajshahi district. He had been arrested from Baruihati Bazar area in the same district on December 9. Police had taken him to the Baruipara area for recovery of small arms when PBCP cadres opened fire on the Police party. Shahjahan sustained critical injuries during the ensuing encounter and succumbed to his injuries in the Bagmara Health Complex. Police recovered a shutter gun, four bullets, a machete, a Chinese axe and some other sharp weapons from the encounter site.

  • December 11: RAB personnel arrested two PBCP cadres, Saiful Islam (35) and Aslam Sheikh (30) from Belkuchi area in Sirajganj district. A pipe gun, a revolver and nine rounds of bullets were recovered from the arrested extremists.

  • December 3: Two PBCP-Lal Pataka cadres were killed in an encounter with the RAB and Police personnel at Seujbari in the Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi district. The extremists, identified as Mustafizur Rahman alias Suruj alias Feroj and Abdul Jalil alias Asim alias Swapan of Uttar Koalipara village, were holding a secret meeting when the raid occurred. Two policemen were also injured in the encounter. Two shutter guns, five bullets, two knives and PBCP booklets were recovered from the encounter site.

  • November 21:Police arrested two PBCP cadres at Jhotibari village in Kamarkhanda sub-district of Sirajganj. The arrested were identified as Abdul Quddus (28) and Mohammad Mostafa (34). They were accused in several criminal cases including one for murder.

  • November 9: A PBCP regional commander was killed in 'crossfire' between his accomplices and the police at Nakhopara in Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi. The arrested extremist Monakka had been arrested on the previous night and had been taken to Nakhopara for recovery of arms. Officer-in-Charge of Bagmara Police Station Sahabuddin Khalipha and Sub-Inspector Imdadul Bashar were also injured during the encounter. A gun, five bullets, two machetes and a knife were recovered from the encounter site.

  • November 2: Daily Star reported that the PBCP is regrouping in Chalan Beel in Sirajganj, Natore and Pabna districts before the December elections to the national assembly. Extortions, robberies, abductions and murders by PBCP extremists have been reported from Tarash, Raiganj, Belkuchi, Shahzadpur, Chowhali and Ullapara sub-districts of Sirajganj, Gurudashpur, Natore sadar and Singra sub-districts of Natore and Bera, Sathia, Ataikula, Sujanagar, Bhangura, Atghoria and Chatmohor sub-districts of Pabna. PBCP activities have also been noticed in the remote places of Sherpur sub-district in Bogra. The activities of the outfit had came down significantly after 105 of its cadres surrendered to police at Katagari Bazar of Tarash in November last year. However, extremist leaders like Nurjahan Begum, Abu Sayeed, Shahjahan Ali, Bablu, Paresh, Kana Rasheed and Huzur Ali have reorganised the activities of the outfit and have targeted businessmen, affluent farmers, contractors and teachers.

  • October 29: The Additional District and Sessions Judge court in Chuadanga sentenced three cadres of the Marxist Leninist faction of the PBCP to death for killing four people at Jodupur village in Sadar sub-district in the Chuadanga district in 1996. The convicts were also fined Taka 10,000 each. While two of the convicts, Alam of Bahndadah in Kaliganj in Jhenidah district and Alam of Bhabanipur in Chuadanga, are behind bars, the third convict Sohag is yet to be arrested. According to prosecution the PBCP had cadres demanded Taka 300,000 from one Abdul Aziz of Jodupur village and subsequently shot dead four people at the house of Aziz on the night of June 27, 1996 as Aziz refused to pay the extortion amount.

  • October 27: Anwarul alias Joy (39), a PBCP-ML regional leader was killed in a mob beating at Bhalaipur village in the Chuadanga district. Police sources said that the incident took place when the extremist leader was trying to collect extortion amount of Taka 300,000 from two local businessmen. Joy was accused in nine different cases, including three for murder.

  • October 26: RAB personnel arrested a PBCP cadre, identified as Hafiz Uddin Sheikh, at Paikora village in Tarash sub-district of Sirajganj district, for his involvement in killing a trader at Katagari Bazar on October 25 night. On interrogation, the extremist confessed to his involvement in the killing.

  • October 24: PBCP cadres killed a trader at a market in Tarash of Sirajganj district. The victim was identified as Abul Kalam Azad of Paikora village. Police and eyewitnesses said that a group of 20 or 25 armed extremists entered the shop of Azad at Katagari Bazar and shot him with a pistol.

  • September 10: A regional leader of the PBCP-Lal Pataka was sent to jail after his appearance before Meherpur judicial magistrate court. The extremist Rois Uddin was arrested from his house at Jalshuka village in Gangni sub-district of Meherpur. On his confessional statement, police recovered a shutter gun from his house. Police sources said that the extremist was involved in several crimes including robbery, abduction and extortion.

  • August 22: A regional leader of the PBCP-Red Flag faction was killed during an encounter at Vulbaria village in Ataikula sub-district of Pabna. The killed extremist was identified as Mohammad Johurul Islam alias Mithu. During the time of the raid the extremists were holding a secret meeting. One rifle, a foreign made revolver and 20 bullets were recovered from the spot.

  • July 30: A PBCP ‘regional commander’, identified as Tofazzal Hossain Tufan alias Shimul, was killed during a shootout between his associates and the police at Mohishshahi Chandpur village under Pangsha sub-district in the Rajbari district. He had been arrested in Suryanagar area on July 28-night and subsequently was taken to Suryanagar to recover firearms where the encounter occurred.

  • July 27: Chief of the Red-Flag faction of the PBCP-Red Flag, Tutul a.k.a. Dr Mizanur Rahman a.k.a. Rafikul Islam, was killed in an encounter between Police and extremists in Naogaon. Earlier on July 26-night, hours before Dr Tutul was killed, his 80-year-old mother Novera Khatun through a press conference at Jhenidah Press Club had pleaded with the Government to save her son from "crossfire".

  • July 24: A ‘regional commander’ of the Red-Flag faction of the PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Abdul Hakim alias Kalu, was killed during a shootout between extremists and the Police at Malsan village under Raninagar sub-district of the Naogaon district.

  • July 8: A senior leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha was killed during an encounter with the police personnel at Taherhuda village in the Jhenidah district. The slain extremist, Absal Hossain, was a close aide of slain PBCP chief Dada Tapan, police sources said. Absal Hossain had been arrested earlier on that day from Taherhuda village and was accompanying the police for recovery of arms when the encounter occurred. Two police constables were also injured in the incident. A revolver, a light gun and eight rounds of bullets were recovered from the encounter site.

  • June 29: Three PBCP cadres were arrested from Bagmara in the Rajshahi district and were sent to jail. The extremists were identified as Kanai Chandra Das alias Kanu, Protul Kumar Sarker, and Shaymol Kumar Jamadar, all hailing from Taherpur bazaar in Bagmara.

  • June 27: Two top leaders of the PBCP-Janajuddha were killed during a shootout between their cohorts and RAB at Ganeshpur village under Khoksa sub-district of Kushtia district. They slain militants were identified as Golam Hossain Akash, younger brother of recently slain Janajuddha chief Abdur Rashid Malitha alias Dada Tapan, and Abdur Rashid Tikka, regional leader of the outfit. Tikka, who was a leader of the GMF, had joined PBCP-Janajuddha three months ago as its regional leader.

  • June 16: Four PBCP extremists were arrested from the remote Boroichora village in Chalon Beel area of Tarash sub-district in the Sirajganj district. They have been identified as Abdul Kayum, Abdul Jalil, Hossain Mandal, and Mozibar Rahman, all haling from Boroichora village. Police sources said that the extremists are wanted in several cases for killing, robbery and abduction.

    A PBCP extremist, identified as Md Khurjan, was killed allegedly by rivals within his own outfit at Satgasa village in the Atghoria sub-district of Pabna. Police said the extremist was probably abducted from Kodomtoli market and later killed at Satgasa.

  • June 14: The cadres of the PBCP have started regrouping and committing various crimes in remote areas including Chalan Beel in the Sirajganj, Natore and Pabna districts. Many of the mosques, temples, madrassas, and market places in outlying char areas in the three districts have turned into safe havens for the extremists. Some 15 sub-districts including Belkuchi, Chowhali, Ullapara, Shahzadpur and Tarash in the Sirajganj district, Singra and Gurudashpur in Natore district and Santhia, Bera, Ataikula, Sujanagar, Bhangura, Atghoria and Chatmohor in Pabna district have witnessed activities by the PBCP cadres.

  • June 6: Harun-ur-Rashid alias Khoka, a regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha, was killed during an encounter at Durgapur village under Jhenidah Sadar sub-district. The extremist, an accused in Gana Union Parishad Chairman Sharaf murder case, had been arrested at Abdullahpur in Dhaka on June 5 and had been taken to Durgapur for recovery of firearms. A gun, two bullets and a bomb were recovered from the encounter site.

    Two PBCP-Janajuddha cadres, identified as Thandu and Fazar, were arrested during separate raids conducted in various places of the Jhenidah district Three light guns, three bombs and six bullets were recovered during the raids.

  • June 3: Abdus Sattar Malita, a regional leader of the PBCP-Janajuddha, was killed in an encounter with Police at Dhopabila village under the Sadar sub-district of Jhenidah district. A gun, three bombs and two bullets were recovered from the encounter site. The slain militant was arrested on June 2 at Garaganj bazaar under the Shailkupa sub-district and was accompanying the Police on the day of the encounter for the recovery of hidden firearms.

  • June 1: Abdur Rashid alias Sagor, a PBCP extremist was killed during an encounter between RAB personnel and PBCP cadres at Namkan village of Bagmara sub-district in the Rajshahi district. A shutter gun, a bullet, an empty cartridge, two machetes and two knives were recovered from the encounter site.

  • May 26: Hamidul Islam Samrat alias Monirul, a PBCP-ML regional leader was killed in a shootout between Police and the outfit’s cadres at Bhalaipur village in the Alamdanga sub-district of Chuadanga district. Police also arrested a woman accomplice of the slain extremist, identified as Rahima Khatun, after the shootout and recovered a shutter gun and eight bullets from the encounter site.

  • May 8: The RAB personnel arrest two PBCP cadres from Durgapur Bazaar in the Rajshahi district in connection with the May 2 attack on the Taherpur Police outpost and the murder of a police man.

  • May 7: One PBCP cadre, Bachchu alias Nishan, who was arrested from Haybatpur in the Natore district for his involvement in May 2 attack on the police personnel, is remanded for seven days for further interrogation. His interrogation has led to the recovery of five looted arms from a pond at Naldanga in the Natore district.

  • May 6: One PBCP cadre, Bachchu alias Nishan, is arrested from Haybatpur in the Natore district for his involvement in May 2 attack on the police personnel.

    The PBCP asks eight garment owners of Fatullah in the Nawabganj district to pay extortion amount to the outfit. Four owners have already filed complain with the Police and have asked for security. The report says that the owner of Ruposhi Garments and Director of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Mohammad Suhrawardy was asked to pay Taka 400,000 by Abir Hasan, regional commander of the PBCP. Another leader of the outfit Ziaul Haque Zia who too spoke to Mohammad Suhrawardy said that the outfit needs the money to free its jailed cadres. Similarly, Taka 600,000 was demanded from garment owner Abdul Based, Taka 650,000 from the owner of Fiber Tex Garment Sohel Nazrul, and Taka 400,000 from SA Textile mills owner Ripon.

  • April 26: Police arrest three injured cadres of the Marxist-Leninist faction of the PBCP following an encounter at Azampur in the Mirpur sub-district of Kushtia district. A shutter gun and 18 bullets are recovered from their possession. They are identified as Sumon and Kaber of Kakiladah village in the Mirpur sub-district and Rana of Houspur village in the Alamdanga sub-district in Chuadanga district.

    Police in Sirajganj arrest Abul Hossain, a PBCP leader from Char Boyra village in Sirajganj Sadar sub-district. Police sources say that Hossain is an accused in a case for looting arms from Randhunibari police outpost and killing a policeman.

  • April 7: The Pabna district unit commander of PBCP-Red Flag, identified as Md. Shimul Pramanik, was killed during an encounter with RAB personnel and the outfit's cadres in Salaipur village in Goaishpur union of Pabna district. A point 22 revolver, a pipe gun, a shutter gun and seven bullets were recovered from the site of the encounter. Two RAB personnel were injured in the incident.

  • March 16: RAB personnel arrested Mohammed Hares Sarder, a regional leader of the Rad Flag faction of the PBCP, from Joydebpur intersection in the Gazipur district. Following his interrogation, a Chinese revolver, an SBBL gun made in Belgium, two Burmese shutter gun and two locally made shutter guns were recovered from Dhanuaghata village in the Faridpur sub-district of Pabna district.

  • March 15: Two PBCP-Janajuddha cadres were arrested from an unspecified village in the Chuadanga district while collecting Taka 20,000 as extortion from a doctor.

  • March 13: Police in Sirajganj district arrested a leader of the PBCP from Char Boyra village. The arrested extremist Abul Hossain is an accused in many cases including murder, killing police personnel, attacking the police camp at Randhunibari and looting of arms and ammunition.

  • March 10: A PBCP-Red Flag faction regional leader was killed during an encounter with the Rapid Action Battalion personnel at Nandanpur village in the Ataikula sub-district of Pabna district. The killed extremist Md Abdus Samad alias Dhala Samad hailed from Kakilakhali village and was accused in several cases, including four for murder. Eight bombs, two shutter guns and three rounds of bullet were recovered from the encounter site.

  • March 4: Daily Star quoting intelligence agencies reports that the left-wing extremist outfits in the country's south-western region are regrouping with a seven-point programme to increase their strength and retaliate against the security forces. In late February 2008, the Marxist-Leninist faction of the PBCP organised a meeting of different outfits in Jhenidah and called for unity of all the groups to launch an "action programme". The programme reportedly includes bomb attack on law enforcers, educational institutions, passenger transport and important places in ten districts of the region, collection of toll from businessmen, distribution of leaflets, recruiting new cadres, removing class enemies and avenging the deaths of their colleagues in fake encounters. According to police sources, the left-wing extremists have killed ten persons and exploded nine bombs during the past one week in the area. They have also extorted a large amount of money from some businessmen in the south-western region.

  • February 28: Police arrested a PBCP ‘regional commander’, identified as Abul Kalam Azad alias Kala, with two firearms, 11 rounds of bullet and one cartridge from Saurail village under Pangsha sub-district in the Rajbari district. He was reportedly wanted in five cases.

  • February 25: RAB Personnel arrested six 'bomb throwers' of the Marxist Leninist-Janajuddha faction of the PBCP from Jhenidah town and its outskirts . They were identified as Intaj, Kader alias Zakir, Sohag alias Sagar, Liton, Mitu and Motiar, RAB said, adding that they confessed to their involvement.

  • February 11: A PBCP-Janajuddha cadre, identified as Mohammed Farman Ali was killed by his rivals within the outfit at Sonakandi village in the Santhia sub-district of Pabna district. The slain extremist was accused in several cases including murder and robbery.

  • February 8: A PBCP-ML cadre was killed in a shootout between security forces and PBCP cadres at Bijnagar village in the Kushtia district. The dead was identified as Akbar Ali of Naodapara in Mirpur sub-district. A country-made shutter gun and seven rounds of bullet were recovered from the encounter site . Police said Akbar had been accused in 12 cases on different charges including murder.

  • January 27: Police arrested one militant of the PBCP-Janajuddha faction, identified as Ashraf Ali, from Gilatala in Khulna city. He is an accused in an Explosive Substances Act case filed in September 2005 with the Khan Jahan Ali police station.

  • January 26: Second-in-command of the Janajudhdha faction of the PBCP, identified as Mohammad Ali, was killed by the RAB personnel during an encounter at Goaishbari village under Ataikula police station in the Pabna district. Firearms, bullets and bombs were recovered from the incident site. The RAB said that Ali was accused in seven cases for murder, extortion and other crimes, lodged with Ataikula, Santhia and Faridpur police stations.

  • January 23: A speedy trial tribunal in Rajshahi sentenced ten PBCP cadres to death for killing five people, including four policemen. The accused had killed four policemen and a leaseholder of Chowbaria Hat of Manda sub-district in the Naogaon district on April 16, 2006 while looting firearms and ammunition. The PBCP cadres sentenced to death include regional organising secretary Nurul Islam Shahin, cadres Tahurul Islam, Shafikul Islam, Abu Bakar Siddik, Nurunnabi Hasan, Shafikul Islam-2, Sanjay Kumar Saha, Pintu, Dilip and Tomal. A total 21 PBCP cadres were accused in the charge sheet of the case.

    Security measures in the Khulna city were tightened following a threat issued by the Marxist-Leninist (ML) faction of the PBCP. The outfit mailed a hand-written letter to the Khulna Press Club threatening to carry out bomb and grenade attacks to take revenge for the killing of its operation commander Abdur Rashid alias Tapu who was killed in the Fakirhat sub-district of Bagerhat district in 2005.

  • January 20: A former zonal chief of the PBCP, identified as Arif allias Badal, was killed during a shootout with RAB and police personnel at Ramjibanpur village in the Sujanagar sub-district of Pabna district. Arif’s accomplices, however, managed to escape. A single barrel gun, a shutter gun, a light machine gun and two bullets were recovered from the encounter site. RAB sources said that Arif, accused in several cases including nine for murder, had recently formed a new faction 'Maobadi Sangha Bangladesh'.

    Two PBCP cadres, identified as Abbas Ali and Amirul Islam Khokon, were arrested during separate raids in the Meherpur sub-district and two arms and three bombs were recovered from them.

    A judicial magistrate court in Chuadanga sent arrested journalist Rafiq Rahman, working for a Dhaka based vernacular daily Bhorer Kagoj, to jail. He had earlier been arrested on January 19 on the basis of a statement by Akram Hossain, an extremist belonging to the PBCP- ML. He has been accused of printing posters of the outfit in his printing press.

2007

  • Decmber 20: A regional leader of the Janajuddha faction of the PBCP, identified as Mohammed Sahai, was killed during an encounter with the RAB personnel at Purba Banagram village under Ataikula sub-district in the Pabna district. Three RAB personnel and one sub-inspector of police were injured during the encounter. One rifle, three shutter guns, four hand bombs, six rifle bullets and 27 revolver bullets were recovered from the encounter site.

  • December 3: Intelligence and local sources said that 1000 cadres belonging to the PBCP, including their regional leader Abdus Samad Khan alias Samad, have taken shelter in the shoal areas of Shivalaya and Daulatpur sub-districts in the Manikganj district, Goalunda sub-district in the Rajbari district and Bera sub-district in the Pabna district.

  • December 1: 104 cadres of the PBCP surrendered to the police at the remote Katagari Hat in Deshigram village in Tarash sub-district of Sirajganj district. Police sources said that the greater Chalon Beel area in the district had turned into a safe haven for the PBCP cadres who committed various crimes including murder, robbery and abduction.

  • November 23: The RAB personnel killed a PBCP leader of the Aziz faction, identified as Sayeed Matabbor alias Rogkata Sayeed at Shirkhara Bazaar in the Madaripur district. Sayeed Matabbor was second-in-command of the faction and was also accused of murdering two police officials in 2004. One shutter gun, three hand-made bombs and a number of sharp weapons were recovered from the incident site.

  • November 20: A PBCP regional leader was killed during an encounter with the RAB personnel at Talgharia village in the Rajshahi district. The extremist was identified as Shamim alias Biplab of Birkutsa. A .22 bore revolver, one pipe gun, a light gun, a bullet, a gun cartridge, an empty cartridge, two spears, three machetes and a knife were recovered from the encounter site.

  • October 21: Two PBCP- Lal Pataka cadres were killed by their rivals in the outfit at Malihad village in the Mirpur sub-district of Kushtia district on October 21. The slain extremists were identified as Akther Hossain Mondol, a regional commander of the outfit, and Babu, an armed cadre. Police sources said that the assailants picked up both Akther and Babu from their houses on the pretext of a party meeting and killed them at Padmabeel field at Malihad village. Later, a PBCP cadre identifying himself as Siddique Ali alias Tiger called up the security forces and journalists to claim responsibility for the killing.

    Another cadre of the PBCP-Lal Pataka faction, identified as Zabed Ali, sustained bullet injuries in a shootout between extremists and Rapid Action Battalion personnel at Taltala Bazaar in the Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi.

  • October 20: The RAB personnel killed a PBCP- Lal Pataka cadre, identified as Abdus Salam, during an encounter at Madhugram in the Pabna district. RAB personnel also recovered two firearms, three rounds of bullet and a sharp weapon from the incident site. Salam was accused in a number of cases, including 16 for murder, said sources.

  • October 17: RAB personnel recovered two improvised bombs in Tangail town and another two from different places in Meherpur. RAB personnel arrested 16 persons in Meherpur including six PBCP- Lal Pataka cadres. One of the arrested PBCP cadres was identified as Masud Rana Sumon of Haldarpara whom the RAB described as a ‘notorious criminal of the region’.

  • September 30: Six PBCP cadres were arrested from a boat on Dheleswari river by a joint police team from Gheor and Daulatpur police station in the Manikganj district. The extremists were returning after piracy on the Jamuna river. Police also recovered some firearms from their possession.

  • September 29: Chuadanga police arrested four cadres of the PBCP-Communist War from different areas of the Alamdanga sub-district. They were identified as regional leader Abzal Hossain of Bhangbaria village, cadres Hasibul of Kalidaspur, Mizanur Rahman of Nawdapara and Zahid Hossain of Alamdanga.

  • September 16: Three PBCP cadres were killed and five others injured in a shootout with police at Charavanga on the Jamuna river in the Manikganj district. Two policemen were also injured in the encounter. Some firearms were recovered in the operation. The shootout took place as police raided a PBCP hideout when about 17 extremists were preparing for dacoity.

  • September 10: Two PBCP- Janajuddha extremists, identified as district commander’ Abdul Matin and Mohammed Abdul Ohab, were killed in an encounter between the extremists and RAB personnel at Ataikula in the Pabna district. Three pipe guns, three revolvers, two light guns and 122 bullets were recovered from the encounter site.

    Two PBCP-Janajuddha cadres, Mithay and Akkas of Katchubaria village in the Mirpur sub-district of Kushtia district, surrendered to the police.

  • September 3-4: During separate raids in the Meherpur and Rajbari districts, police personnel arrested eight left-wing extremists. While four New Biplobi Communist Party cadres were arrested from Rajbari, the others, including a cadre of the PBCP - Lal Pataka faction, were arrested in Meherpur.

  • August 25: A PBCP- Lal Pataka regional leader was killed in an encounter with police personnel in the Mirpur sub-district of Kushtia district. He was identified as Anisur Rahman Anis of Gorapara village, who was accused in 12 cases on different charges, including murder.

  • August 24: PBCP- Janajuddha extremists pasted posters at different places of Shailkupa sub-district in the Jhenidah district, threatening to kill five journalists. The journalists threatened with death were identified as Bimal Kumar Saha, Akmal Hossain, Abdur Rahman Milton, Sohag Kumar Biswas, and Zahidul Islam Mohon.

  • August 7: RAB personnel recovered eight firearms, six bombs and ammunition from a mango orchard at Goashpur-Dhopaghata village in the Pabna district. The cache belonged to the Lal Pataka faction of the PBCP.

  • July 18: A court in Satkhira sentenced Ashoka Kumar Saha alias Palash, a regional leader of the PBCP, to 14-year rigorous imprisonment on charges of keeping illegal arms.

  • July 11: Zinnat Ali, former PBCP chief of the outfit’s Jessore unit, was killed in an encounter with the police at Andulbaria village in the Jhenidah district. He was earlier arrested on July 10 from Makimpur village under Harinakundu sub-district. A pistol and one shotgun were recovered from the incident site.

  • July 9: During operations in separate villages of Bagmara sub-district in the Rajshahi district, police arrested a JMB militant and four left-wing extremists, including a PBCP regional commander. The JMB militant was identified as Shamser Ali, who is also an accused in a police assault case. The arrested PBCP regional commander Ariful Islam Rony is a charge-sheeted accused in a murder case. The extremists were identified as Hazrat of Taherpur, Rashid Babu of Cheukhali and Islam of Polashi village.

  • June 22: RAB personnel arrested five PBCP cadres from Jamtoli Bazaar in the Raiganj sub-district of Sirajganj district, while the extremists were holding a secret meeting.

  • June 15: PBCP ‘operations commander’ of the Naogaon zone, Dulal alias Kalam of Sadupur village, was killed in during a shootout between RAB personnel and his accomplices at Parkasunda of Atrai sub-district in the Naogaon district.

  • June 10: A farmer, Anis, was killed by PBCP cadres at Boroichora village in the Tarash sub-district of Sirajganj district following his refusal to give them paddy as toll.

    Two PBCP-Janajuddha regional leaders were killed in an encounter with the RAB personnel in the Pabna district. They were identified as Salam alias Mamun of Shardiar village and Manir alias Moniruddin of the Ataikula sub-district. RAB sources said that Mamun was the second-in-command of the PBCP's Arif-Badal faction.

  • June 9: Two PBCP-Janajuddha cadres were killed at Azampur village in the Mirpur sub-district of Kushtia district. The slain extremists, identified as Miraz Uddin and Abdul Quddus of Shrirampur village, were shot dead by the rival Gono Mukti Fouz cadres, after being picked up from a shop at gunpoint.

  • June 7: A PBCP regional leader was beaten to death in the Sadar sub-district of Tangail district. The extremist, Mohammad Sona Miah of Kashinagar village, was an accused in 13 criminal cases, including eight for murder.

  • June 3: Security forces neutralized a hideout of the PBCP and killed an extremist, identified as Munna alias Robber Mona, in Dhalar Char on the Jamuna river in the Pabna district. The security forces also arrested 19 suspected criminals and recovered 13 firearms following the operation in which nearly 400 security force personnel took part. The 13 recovered firearms include one rifle, a .22 automatic gun, four foreign made revolvers, seven shutter guns and 66 bullets.

  • June 1: Police personnel arrested two PBCP cadres, identified as Saidur and Quddus, from Taherpur and Palashi villages in the Bagmara sub district of Rajshahi district.

  • May 29: Biddyut alias Dilip, a ‘regional commander’ of the PBCP-Janajuddha faction, was killed in an encounter with the police at Mahajanpur in the Meherpur district.

  • May 22: Two regional leaders of the Lal Pataka faction of the PBCP were killed in an encounter with a joint team of police and RAB Personnel at Harinarayanpur village in the Pabna Sadar sub-district. The extremists, identified as Bishu Pramanik of village Ranigram in Ataikula sub-district and Jamal Uddin of village Jalalpur in Pabna Sadar sub-district, were holding a secret meeting when the raid occurred.

  • May 16: Idris Ali, a cadre of the PBCB, was arrested by the police from the Raropara village under Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi district.

  • May 12: Police arrested Abul Kalam Azad, an extremist belonging to the Lal Pataka faction of the PBCB, at Ramrama village in the Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi district.

  • May 7: A PBCP- Janajuddha regional leader was killed in an encounter with the RAB personnel in the Ataikula sub-district of Pabna district.

    Police arrested six PBCP extremists from the Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi district. The arrested include Asir Uddin, a regional commander of the outfit from Khalispara in Jhikra union, Abdur Rashid, a PBCP publicity wing commander, Aynal and Bani Sar who were the outfit’s killing squad members and Layeb who used to distribute leaflets claiming responsibility of murders or other operations of the outfit.

  • April 30: RAB personnel arrested a front ranking leader of the Lal Pataka faction of the PBCP, Kafil Mostafa, from from Mirpur Section-1 in the capital Dhaka. Police sources said that Kafil, a resident of Char Balarampur village in the Pabna district, is a central leader of the PBCP and a contemporary of Kamrul Islam Master, founder of the outfit.

  • April 24: Six PBCP cadres were arrested from the Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi district. While Siraj and Malek were arrested from Konopara village, Saiful, Razzak and Kachu Shah were arrested from the Aloknagar village. Saiful is an accused in the case relating to the murder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Prof. Wahed.

  • April 23: Police arrested two PBCP extremists, identified as Sayer Ali Khan of Baroihati and Mansur of Bajekola village, from their respective villages under the Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi district.

  • April 17: Four PBCP cadres were arrested from the Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi district. They were identified as Abdul Kuddus, Jalal and Kefayetullah of Sajuria village and Muhammad Shahin of Ramrama village.

  • April 10: In the Bagmara sub-district, two PBCP cadres, Mamun from Taherpur Basia and Khwaza Moyen from Maria village, were arrested. With these arrests, a total of 23 JMB militants and 51 PBCP extremists have been arrested since mid-January 2007 in the district.

  • April 8: Police arrested JMB militant, Abdur Rashid, from Hamirkutsa village under Bangmara sub-district of Rajshahi district.

    A PBCP cadre, Abed Ali, was arrested from Mirzapur village under Bangmara sub-district of Rajshahi district.

  • April 5: Police arrested four PBCP cadres, including its regional leader Ranajit Kumar Mondol, from Baroipara village in the Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi district.

  • March 19: Police arrested five 'listed' PBCP cadres from Bagmara sub-district in the Rajshahi district. Extremists identified as, Rahim Uddin, Amjad Hossain, , Rafikul Islam, Joban Ali, and Mahbubur Rahman, were reportedly accused in cases, including murder and extortion.

  • March 14: Two PBCP- Lal Pataka cadres were injured in a blast while making bombs at Meghna village of Bheramara sub-district of Kushtia.

    A court in Rajshahi sentenced two PBCP cadres, Kamruzzaman Mithu and Akkas Ali, to life imprisonment for killing Muhammad Golam Mostafa, deputy registrar of Rajshahi University on June 4, 2004. Five absconding accused Abdur Rashid alias Dada Tapan, Waheduzzaman alias Bikash, Bazlur Rahman, Abul Kalam Azad and Kalu Mia were acquitted by the Additional District and Sessions Judge ASSM Zahirul Haq.

  • March 9: Joint forces arrested two PBCP cadres in Tarash sub-district of Sirajganj district. The arrested have been identified as Tasir Uddin, and Delowar Hossain of Paikora village.

  • March 7: Daily Star reports that PBCP-Janajuddha cadres have been threatening journalist Kanak Rahman, a staff correspondent of the daily Shamokal for writing reports against its activities in the Khulna city. The journalist has reportedly received several calls since February 28 from an armed PBCP cadre who threatened him of dire consequences.

  • March 4: Police arrested six PBCP cadres from Bagmara sub-district of Rajshahi on March 4.

  • February 26: A suspected PBCP cadre, Shajahan Ali, is killed by his rivals at Jagannathpur village in Chatmohor sub-district of Pabna. Police sources said that the killed extremist was abducted from his house and was shot dead.

  • February 13: A leader of PBCP-Lal Pataka, Abdur Gafur alias Jamai Gafur, is killed in an encounter with the RAB personnel in the Ataikhola sub-district of Pabna district.

  • February 10: Two civilians are killed by left-wing extremists in the Bholadanga village of Gangni sub-district in the Meherpur district. Notun Lal Juddho, a new faction of the PBCP claimed responsibility for the killing.

  • February 10: A PBCP leader belonging to the outfit’s Haque faction, identified as Harun-or-Rashid, is killed in 'crossfire' between the RAB personnel and PBCP operatives in Jhenidah.

  • February 6: Two PBCP-Janajuddha extremists surrender to RAB personnel in the Kushtia district along with arms and ammunition.

  • February 4: Shahzadpur police arrest a PBCP 'regional leader' and recover a shutter gun from his possession at Saila Chapri village in the Sirajganj district.

  • January 24: A PBCP-Janajuddha cadre, Jan-e-Alam Jana, is killed in an encounter with the RAB personnel at Narayanpur Hatathpara in the Jhenidah district.

  • January 24: A PBCP-Janajuddha leader, Ikrul Islam, is killed in crossfire between police and PBCP cadres at Kachubaria under Mirpur sub-district of the Kushtia district.

  • January 17: GMF extremists kill a PBCP-Janajuddha cadre, identified as Saidul Islam of Aria village, in the Kushtia district.

  • January 15: Two PBCP-Janajuddha cadres are killed in an encounter with the RAB personnel inside a primary school compound under Ataikula police station in the Pabna district.

  • January 13: The Red Flag faction of the PBCP kill two of their colleagues at Ataikula sub-district in the Pabna district.

  • January 6: Activists of the PBCP-Janajuddha faction kill two persons, a Bangladesh Nationalist Party activist Afaz Uddin and a Jamaat-e-Islami member Abu Daud, at Sadipur village under Daulatpur sub-district in the Kushtia district.

  • January 5: Two cadres of the Gano Mukti Fouz (GMF), identified as brothers Moinul Hossain and Masud Hossain, and two Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) informants, identified as Saheb Ali and Hasem Ali, are killed by the New Red War group of the Marxist-Leninist faction of the PBCP in the Kushtia district.

2006

  • December 25: A ‘commander’ of the Red Flag faction of the PBCP, identified as Selim Babu, is killed in a 'shootout' with police personnel at Sukurkandi village under Gangni sub-district in the Meherpur district.

  • December 22: A regional leader of the Janajuddha faction of the PBCP, identified as Sabur alias Shahabuddin, and his accomplice Titumir alias Raju, are killed in an encounter with RAB personnel at Chatkabaria village under Harinakunda sub-district in the Jhenidah district.

  • A PBCP leader, Nazrul Islam alias Tufan, is killed in an encounter with RAB personnel at Shibpur village under Ataikula sub district in the Pabna district.

    A PBCP regional leader, Razzak Mondol, dies at Sirajganj General Hospital. He was arrested from his residence at Shuborno Shara village under Belkuchi sub-district and was later interrogated. Following his interrogation, Razzak was handed over to Belkuchi police who rushed him to the hospital where he died.

  • April 27: PBCP cadres gun down at least seven activists of the Awami League in Chuadanga district.

  • April 21: Government launches a crackdown on underground groups active in the south-west region of the country, including on the PBCP.

1998

  • August 3: Five activists of the PBCP are beheaded in Kushtia district in inter-party rivalry. Later their dead bodies are recovered from Kalabari village, under Mirpur police station, limits.
