A person, suspected of having
links with the CPI-Maoist, was arrested from a rented house at
Kavalamukkatta, near Nilambur in Malapuram District. The arrestee
was identified as Zinic (56), from Thrikkakara near Kochi. The
Police said Zinic had come to Nilambur with the intention of exploring
the possibility of making Maoist inroads into the tribal groups
there. Pamphlets exhorting people to take up arms against the
Government were seized from the house. The Police Zinic had retired
from the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) as an
assistant depot engineer in March. He had ITI training. He had
reportedly worked at different depots of the KSRTC, including
Edappal. The Police said he was a former member of a rationalist
organisation and the radical group Porattam. He parted ways with
the Porattam, claiming that the organisation was not radical enough
to bring about a change in the country.
