A Delhi court acquitted Maoist ideologue, Kobad Ghandy (68), of terror charges but held him guilty of cheating and forgery. However, the Additional Sessions Judge Reetesh Singh sentenced the Maoist leader for the period of imprisonment he had already undergone during the trial. "Kobad Ghandy is in custody since September 20, 2009, which is almost six years and six months. I therefore impose upon him a term of imprisonment already undergone by him and fine of Rs.10, 000. In default of payment of the fine, he shall undergo a further simple imprisonment for two months," the judge said.

September 19

An inter-state arms supplier, who has INR 100,000 bounty on his head, with links to CPI-Maoist of Jharkhand area has been arrested by the Police in Delhi. Raj Kumar Yadav, a resident of Samastipur District in Bihar, was arrested by the Crime Branch sleuths from Dwarka area of west Delhi, a Police official said. A sophisticated pistol, along with three live cartridges, was recovered from his possession. "He supplied hand-grenades to dreaded criminal Vikash Dagar to eliminate his rival Krishan Pahalwan through Harcharan Sardar. He also has contacts with the LWEs in Jharkhand area and claims to be their source of arms and ammunition," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
