Nature of incident

January 10

Cherhar forests / Marble / Sopore / Baramula

SFs launched a massive operation in Cherhar forests of Marble area in Sopore town of Baramula District after receiving information about the presence of a group of militants in the forests. Sources said that acting on information about the presence of a group of JeM militants, Army's 27 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off the area.

January 13

Cherhar forests / Marble / Sopore / Baramula

A 'divisional commander' of JeM was among three foreign militants killed in an encounter with SFs in Dooru village in the foothills of Cherhar forests in the Sopore area of Baramulla District.

January 20 Tral / Pulwama

A foreign militant of JeM was killed in an encounter with Police in Tral area of Pulwama District.

February 5 India

Khalistani terror groups have now found a new ally in JeM 'chief' Maulana Masood Azhar to foment trouble in India and to keep alive their demand for a separate statehood.

February 25 India

IB reports have informed that the militant outfit JeM led by Maulana Masood Azhar which masterminded the 2001 attack on Parliament, is planning a series of suicide bomber attacks on political rallies in India when the Lok Sabha campaign gathers steam.

March 9 Jammu and Kashmir

JeM militants hurled two grenades and fired indiscriminately on an Army Colonel's vehicle in the Khoshipora forests of Baramulla District. The officer, however, escaped unhurt. Though the Army fired back, the militants managed to escape. Army subsequently, conducted searches and recovered one Pistol and two grenades from the area.

March 10

Jammu and Kashmir

Police recovered dead body of a JeM militant, identified as Arshad Bhia alias Chotu, near Jamia Masjid Tral in Pulwama District.

March 15 Jammu and Kashmir

JeM and HM militants launched pads being prepared for cross-border infiltration in areas of PoK.

May 3 India

The intelligence agencies have also informed that Maulana Masood Azhar, founder of JeM, last week held a conference -'Jehad-e-Kashmir'- with senior members of various Tanzeems. Masood Azhar was released by India in the wake of the 1999 Kandahar hijack.

According to Gujarat Police Terror suspect Saiyed Kirmani Abdul who was detained at Hyderabad airport is claimed to be associated with JeM.

J&K Police recovered body of a JeM militant from an orchard in Panzu village of Tral area in Pulwama District.

June 3 J&K

Three major militant outfits LeT, HM and JeM seem to have joined hands to send a large number of militants into J&K.

June 11

Jammu and Kashmir

Various militants' outfits operating in Jammu and Kashmir have launched fresh drive to recruit local "talent" into their ranks. Police and intelligence officials have in their feedback to the government mentioned that LeT, JeM and HM seeking to recruit young boys from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir to join their ranks in their latest effort to augment the manpower.

July 5 Pulwama

One JeM militant was killed and a soldier was injured in a gunfight at Aripal village in Tral area of Pulwama District.

August 18 India

PM Narendra Modi is facing threat terror outfits like LeT, JeM, IM and SIMI. His road travels in particular have been under scanner of jehadis. Sources say intelligence agencies have come to know about at least two meetings - one held in Nepal between IM and SIMI cadres and another in Pakistan by LeT wherein Modi was discussed.

August 28 J&K

According to intelligence reports that Pakistan has deployed an extra 12 battalions, comprising 800-1,200 soldiers each, near the IB and LoC in J&K over the last few days. It was also noted that intelligence reports had confirmed that terrorists of the LeT and JeM were part of this deployment along the border and they too were posing as Pakistan Army regulars.

September 2 Hanjan Bala / Pulwama / J&K

Three militants, identified as Altaf Ahmad Rather- JeM 'district commander', Farooq Ahmad Laway and Showkat Ahmad Dar were killed in an encounter with SFs in Hanjan Bala Village of Pulwama District.

September 22 J&K

Aasim Umar, the leader of al Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent, christened Qaedat al-Jihad, is closely working with HuM and JeM to recruit and train jihadis for operations in J&K.

November 7

Sopore / Baramulla

Police arrested 'self-styled divisional commander' of JeM, identified as Mohammad Sadiq from Sopore area of Baramulla District.

November 15 J&K

Intelligence inputs have warned that HM, LeT and JeM militants may disrupt the ensuing assembly election in &K by attacking security convoys and political workers in south Kashmir.
