2012

  • December 21: Militant group, KYKL, accusing Education Department officials of indulging in rampant corruption, has proclaimed that it would resume collection of tax from educational institutions, including private schools.

  • November 26: SFs arrested two suspected KYKL militants, identified as Kharibam Ingobi (40) and Thokchom Ibochouba (56), at ward number 5 in Moreh in Chandel District. A hand grenade was recovered from the possession of the suspects.

  • October 21: In line with its earlier ultimatum to release all outsiders staying on rent in the State by December 31, the CorCom (Coordination Committee of seven militant outfits) has published a booklet listing the houses and areas where rooms/houses have been put out on rent to outsiders.

  • October 20: A suspected militant of KYKL, identified as Markanto Singh, was arrested by a team of Police Commandos and Security Forces of Red Shield division of the Army in Nambol area of Bishenpur District.

  • October 18: SFs arrested one cadre of KYKL, who is also an employee of Manipur State archive, Government of India, said a Police source. The arrested person has been identified as Wahengbam Markanto Singh alias Umakanta alias Ahal.

  • October 14: The 18 hour general strike called by the CorCom, Coordination Committee of seven militant groups, against the 'annexation' of Manipur by India on October 15, 1949 started at 12 midnight.

  • Imphal East Police arrested one KYKL-MDF cadre, identified as Muhammad Abdul Kalam, from Hatta near hotel Orient. He was also arrested earlier but released on bail in 2011, but he re-joined the outfit under one Tomba of Moirang.

  • October 10: Denouncing the October 15, 1949 'Merger Agreement' which marked the inclusion of then independent Manipur as an entity of India, the CorCom, coordination committee of seven militant groups, has declared that an 18 hour general strike would be observed from October 14 midnight throughout Manipur. A CorCom statement issued on October 10 by its Media Coordinator H Poirei stated that October 15 will also be observed as 'National Black Day' and urged all concerned to cease all form of entertainment, sports, commercial or institutional activities during the strike period.

  • October 5: A team of Imphal East Commando team arrested two cadres of KYKL-MDF from a place near Sawombung Thongkhong Awang Leikai. The arrested militants have been identified as Yambem Manisana Singh and Khumanthem Biken Singh.

  • October 4: Imphal West Police commandos arrested two militants during search operations at Thangal Bazar near Hotel White Palace and Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi area near Pitambara English School. The arrested person from Thangal Bazar is KYKL-MDF and has been identified as Laishram Kunjeshwor alias Kiran. The arrested person from Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi is a cadre of URF and he has been identified as Moirangthem Ibomcha Singh.

  • October 1: A suspected militant, identified as Sapam Ranjan, was slain in a reported encounter with Imphal West commandos at Takyel Khongbal, SAI road. He had reportedly joined KYKL but came back home about a week ago.

  • September 28: The conglomeration of seven militant outfits, CorCom, asked the general public to stay away from MCA programmes organized by SFs. In a statement issued by the committee said, the Manipur public should not forget the incidents of human rights violations perpetrated by security forces on the people of Manipur.

  • September 26:A total of 114 militants belonging to different outfits surrendered with arms before Chief Minister O Ibobi and other dignitaries at the headquarters of Inspector General, Assam Rifles (South) at Mantripukhri in Imphal East.

  • September 23: A team of Imphal East commando arrested a KYKL cadre identified as Shagolsem Bikon alias Star from a place near Loushangkhong makha leikai at around 4:30 am. Bikon is a 'Lance corporal' trained at Tanal (Myanmar) after he joined KYKL in the year 2007.

  • September 8: Discovering the presence of militants in Moreh Ward No 8 in Chandel District, SFs launched an operation and arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as 'captain' Keisham Nanao Singh alias Thangboi alias Tamthiba.

  • September 6: United Front formed by northeastern militants in Myanmar and resurgence of their activities in Bangladesh was on the agenda of a three-day annual DGP Conference that began in New Delhi.

  • September 5: Giving the ultimatum to all outsiders to leave Manipur as well to check the influx of migrants, the CorCom, the umbrella body of seven militant outfits has laid down that no one should rent out dwelling places to outsiders, hire the service of migrant workers and engage them in business transactions.

  • August 28: SFs arrested two militants of the KYKL, identified as Ibungo Leitanthem and Boynao Chingtham, along with two .9mm pistols and nine rounds of live ammunition from Lamlong area.

  • August 27: SFs arrested two militants from Chamol village of Chandel District. The arrestees have been identified as Thoi alias Keliver of General Secretary faction of PREPAK-GS and Boinou Chingtham alias Khomba of KYKL.

  • August 26: KYKL has denied having any relation whatsoever with Thingnam Thoiba and Khumukcham Koireng, who were reportedly arrested by SFs from New Zalinmoul.

  • August 25: SFs arrested two KYKL cadres identified as Thingnam Thoiba Singh and Khumukcham Koireng Singh from a place near Zalinmoul, Moreh in Chandel District. A .9 mm carbine with magazine, ten 9 mm live rounds, one Chinese hand grenade, two mobile phones along with demand letter and a total of INR 17,000 were recovered from the arrested, the statement said and further added, the arrested were later handed over to Imphal West Police station.

  • August 17: The coordination committee of 7 Manipur based insurgent groups (CorCom) has declared that the people of Manipur are not Indians, were never Indians and will never be Indians. Taking strong exception to an editorial comment of a local daily lamenting the lack of public participation in Independence Day celebrations in the state the Corcom statement accused the daily of trying to be a mouthpiece of the colonial masters.

  • August 16: CorCom of seven militant outfits has claimed its hand in the series of bomb explosions which rocked the State on August 15 where two people were injured. According to a statement of the CorCom, the four explosions at near the Thoubal Mela ground (7:30am), Sagolband Salam Leikai (9 am), Telipati along the Imphal River (9:30am) and Mahabali village (10:30am) are part of its general strike in boycott of the Indian Independence.

  • August 15: SFs arrested another KYKL militant, identified as Thangjam Bira Singh, from Ukhongshang Bazar in Thoubal District and recovered one .9 mm pistol with two live rounds.

  • August 13: The CorCom of seven valley based militant groups have condemned the bomb attack allegedly carried out by a KYKL-MDF at the residence of AMWJU president A Mobi at about 8.30pm of August 11.

  • SFs arrested a KYKL militant, identified as Khumanthem Raju alias Naobi alias Thanil, from Wangoo Mamang Sabal Noyangkhong Mapal Sabam Pareng in Thoubal District.

  • August 11: Major militant formations operating in the Northeast called for a general strike on August 15 to boycott Independence Day celebration. However, during the strike, essential services, emergency measures, media and religious activities will be exempted. The militant formations that has called for a general strike, include CorCom of seven rebel organizations HNLC, KLO, NDFB, NLFT and ULFA-ATF.

  • August 10: CorCom, the conglomerate body of seven militant outfits namely KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK-Pro, RPF, UNLF and UPPK, has saluted the martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur War, 1891 on the occasion of Patriots Day (August 13).

  • August 5: KYKL-MDF has named seven editors for execution. The charges levelled against them are that they had refused to publish or broadcast the press releases issued by this outfit and that in a statement the AMWJU had insulted it by describing it as a new organization, which is little known to the people.

  • July 5: Some movements of personnel of the Myanmar Army have been noticed in the areas where most of the militant groups of North East have their bases in the neighbouring country recently. However, no operation has yet been launched against the militants. The news report further states that intelligence inputs about attempts by the Anti-Talks Faction of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-ATF) to strike before the Independence Day celebrations and the Police have been alerted to frustrate any such attempt. Sources revealed that the militants, who are now in Assam, have been directed to indulge in acts of violence, but their movements have been curbed due to operations by police and security forces in upper Assam Districts.

  • Myanmar has agreed to ask the NSCN-K to reduce strength of the Meitei militants to one-third of their current strength. This could be seen as a move to moderate Myanmar's failure to push out Manipur-based insurgents out of the country. The agreement was reached at a meeting of Union ministry of home affairs officials with a nine-member Myanmar delegation in Kolkata (West Bengal) on June 26 and 27. Another commitment of this decision was made to Indian officials in Myanmar on July 4, the source added.

  • July 4: The Special Intelligence Unit of Imphal West arrested an extortionist of KYKL outfit identified as Nitai Choudhury from Thangal Bazar area at.

  • June 27: The KYKL clarified that Sairem Amuchou alias Sundar who was arrested in Guwahati (Assam) is not deputy finance secretary of the outfit. He was an overground worker of the outfit under the command of 'Captain' Santa Achouba from September 2011 till August 2011. However, the outfit stopped establishing any link with him since then, KYKL said in a press statement. It said the post of deputy finance secretary of the outfit is being held by L Ingba since May 13, 2012.

  • June 25: SFs arrested a senior militant belonging to KYKL, Sairem Amudon alias Sundar, from Guwahati railway station. Police sources said he was coming from Nepal and boarded the train at New Jalpaiguri station. He was on his way to Dimapur in Nagaland. However, no arms or ammunition was recovered from him.

  • June 3: SFs arrested two cadres belonging to KYKL-MDF at the Bamon Leikai area in Imphal East District at about 2:50 pm. The arrested persons are identified as Gurumayum Basanta Sharma alias Jonex alias Munda and Wahengbam Thoi Singh alias John. One .32 pistol marked as "Autometic Pistol Made in Japan" loaded with five live rounds and one demand letter of KYKL-MDF signed by 'secretary' finance, KYKL-MDF were recovered from their possession. Gurumayum Basanta Sharma disclosed that he joined KYKL-MDF in the month of May 2011 through one FM. Wahengbem Thoi Singh disclosed that he joined the outfit in the month of August 2011 through one Thomba of finance department of KYKL-MDF and they were working under the command of one Thomba. The two also revealed that they had been involved in the extortion of money from general public, Government offices etc.

  • May 26: One KYKL cadre identified as Khaidem Yaima alias Suraj was arrested by Imphal East commandos from near Lamlai High School at about 10.30 am.

  • May 24: Laiman Chandra Rani alias Ibecha Devi, one of the three female cadres of Manipur-based militant outfits arrested from Dawki while they were trying to infiltrate into India from Bangladesh, belong to KYKL. Two children, Ibngo (7) and Shamila (4) who were accompanying the three cadres were also detained by the BSF. The cadres have confessed that they were returning from their camp based at Khonagaon, Bangladesh and were headed to Manipur. Earlier it was reported that one top PLA leader has been arrested along with her two accomplices.

  • May 22: SFs arrested a KYKL cadre at Sekmai in Senapati District, who has been involved in number of extortion activities in the area and works in the financial wing of KYKL. Some 9mm carts were recovered from his possession.

  • May 16: Imphal West Police commandos arrested two cadres of KYKL-MDF during a search operation at Singjamei Super Market and Chingamakha Oinam Leirak respectively. The arrested persons were identified as Hijam Iboyaima Singh alias Poiriton alias Prem and Oinam Danee Singh alias Momo.

  • May 14: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Naorem Arun alias Korou, at Konjeng Leikai area in Imphal West District. One .9mm pistol along with magazine, five live rounds and one Chinese grenade with detonator recovered from his possession.

  • May 13: Imphal West District Police commandos arrested one KYKL-MDF cadre, identified as Nongthombam Jilla (47), near the Southern Gate of Majorkhull.

  • May 11: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Thokchom Ingobi alias Master Singh (41), from Wangkhem in Thoubal District along with two Chinese hand grenades.

  • May 4: A KYKL cadre, identified as Sagolsem Joy, was also arrested by SFs from Nongda area. One 7.65mm pistol with magazine and two live rounds were recovered from him.

  • May 2: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Kharibam Jotin alias Tangba, from the gate of Meitei Mayek High School, Kongba in Imphal East District. One .32 six-round revolver, one Nokia handset and a SIM card were recovered from his possession. He disclosed to have joined the outfit in 2006 through one David and got eight-month training under the instruction of 'sergeant' Jiten.

  • April 30: 103 cadres belonging to several militant outfits operating in the State and its neighboring areas surrendered before the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh during a ceremony at Mantripukhri in Imphal West District along with their weapons. The militants who surrendered include 22 cadres of the UNLF, 20 of PULF, nine of KYKL, 14 of PREPAK, eight of KNLF, 10 of KCP, nine of PLA, four of UNPC, two of NSCN-IM, one each of NSCN-K, UPPK and KRPA and two KRF.

  • Rahul, a class seven student of Don Bosco, Chingmeirong who was allegedly abducted by a KCP on April 21 was released at Chandel District.

  • April 25: SFs arrested one alleged KYKL cadre, identified as Thokchom Ningthem alias Sanatomba, in Pukhao Khabam Leikai, Lamlai in Imphal East District. He was later handed over to the Police.

  • Locals caught a KYKL militant identified as Thingam Robert Meitei who was trying to deliver a demand letter to the Principal of St Anthony School located near Paomai colony, Sangakpham in Imphal east District.

  • April 24: On behalf of the KYKL, its 'Chairman' N Oken has greeted all the people of Kangleipak (Manipur) as well as the revolutionary groups of the region and CorCom, (coordinating committee of seven militant outfits) members on the occasion of the outfit's 18th raising day which falls on April 25. In a press statement issued in connection with the raising day anniversary, N Oken conceded that both the revolutionary movement and the social movement have been going in reverse gear which has lost people's support to an alarming level.

  • April 22: SFs arrested one cadre of KYKL, identified as Laimayum Imei alias Khingba, at Samaram Mamang Leikai in Thoubal District.

  • April 16: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Laishram Bobo alias Suresh Meitei, from Khurai Lamlong in Imphal East District on April 16 at around 9:45am.

  • March 25: SFs arrested an alleged KYKL cadre, identified as M Suresh, in Ward No 9, Moreh in Chandel District. Two electronic detonators, seven 5.56 mm live rounds and six 9mm live rounds were recovered from him.

  • March 24: SFs arrested one KYKL militant, identified as Ishwor Chandra (25), from the Pub Sarania area in Guwahati city, Assam.

  • March 22: SFs arrested a KYKL cadre, identified as Kumar alias Imothol, from Chamol Track Junction of Chandel District on March 22.

  • March 21: SFs arrested a KYKL militant in Thonkhong of Chandel District. He was identified as 'Major' Pukhroihongbam Chaoba Singh alias Naobicha (26). SFs recovered one .9 mm Pistol with magazine and two live rounds from him.

  • March 16: SFs arrested a KYKL cadre, identified as 'Corporal' Sagolshem Nanao Singh alias Tomba (22), from Samaram area in Thoubal District.

  • March 13-30: The third congress of the KYKL was held from March 13 to 30 and during the congress a 10 member central committee has been elected. In addition, the third congress unanimously elected N Oken as 'Chairman', K Korouhanba as 'General Secretary' and A Yaiphaba as 'Publicity and Research Secretary'.

  • March 13: SFs also arrested a KYKL overground worker, identified as Ningthoujam Robin Singh, from Kumbi Bazar area. He is involved in tax collection and extortion from taxi/bus/auto association in Kumbi area. He was also involved in delivering demand letters and transaction of money for KYKL.

  • March 2: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Biran alias Naba in Moreh Ward No 9 area of Chandel District. One .9mm Pistol along with magazine and five 9mm live rounds were recovered from him.

  • February 26: SFs arrested an overground worker of KYKL, identified as Moirangthem Oken, from Loktak Lake area in Bishnupur District.

  • February 20: The KYKL has categorically stated that all those students who have been preparing to appear the coming HSLC exam located in hill Districts against established rules and regulations should not appear for the said examination. Against the established rules of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, around 1000 students were allowed to appear the HSLC exam in hill schools sometime back. Further, more than 6000 students have been allowed to appear for the same examination in hill Districts, said the outfit.

  • February 16: SFs arrested two KYKL militants, identified as Thounaojam Jiten (32) and Khaidem Naocha (30) from near LMS Law College at Chingmeirong in Imphal East District.

  • SFs arrested another KYKL militant, identified as Khaidem Rajen (59), at Chajing Mairenkhong in Imphal West District. Two .9mm pistols with two magazines, eight live rounds of 9mm ammunition and fourteen live rounds of AK-47 ammunition were recovered from him.

  • February 15: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Bastimayum Tomba Sharma alias B Sharma, from Khoirom Makha Leikai in Imphal East District.

  • February 5: SFs arrested a KYKL cadre, identified as Laishram Sanahan Singh, from Loitang Leikinthabi in Imphal West District.

  • January 29: KPLT has established links with UNLF and KYKL for training the new cadres. Almost all the Northeast outfit has abundance of Chinese weapons and bases in Taga area of Myanmar. Further, the major militant outfits are now supplying weapons to the smaller outfits and Dimapur (Nagaland) has emerged as a weapons hub.

  • January 28: SFs arrested two OGWs of KYKL, identified as Sanghai Kaulianmang and Khuptong Doukhum, who were intimidating voters in Sinjol area.

  • January 20: SFs arrested one militants belonging to PREPAK and KYKL in Jalukbari area of Guwahati City. The arrested militants have been identified as K Tiken Singh of PREPAK and Laisram Mobi Singh of KYKL. Several mobile sets, a laptop computer and some documents were recovered from them.

  • January 12: SFs arrested two militants - one belonging to KCP-MC, identified as 'Sergeant Major' Laishram Beer Singh (36) and the other belonging to KYKL, identified as Langjam Anand (42) - from unspecified locations and handed them over to Lamphel and Patsoi Police Stations respectively.

  • January 11: SFs arrested a militant belonging to KYKL, identified as Thokchom Ingobi Singh (42), at Thoubal Ningombam Utha Leirak in Thoubal District.

  • January 8: The CorCom of seven valley based militant groups has claimed responsibility for the all the recent blasts and Jiribam INC office arson in Imphal East District. The CorCom comprises of the KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK-P, RPF, UNLF and UPPK.

  • Bishnupur Police commandos arrested a KYKL cadre and claimed that the said cadre has been instructed by his superiors to cause disturbances to a public meeting of the Congress party.

  • January 4: In a statement, the CorCom of seven militant groups said that contesting on (NC tickets, campaigning and organizing rallies for the INC were banned. It said anyone defying the ban would be punished. The CorCom comprises of the KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK-P, RPF, UNLF and UPPK. A spokesperson of CorCom claimed that it had masterminded a series of blasts across the place.

2011

  • December 10: SFs arrested an over ground worker of KYKL, identified as Achung, from Komi Keirap in Churachandpur District. He was involved in carrying out extortion related activities of the outfit.

  • A KYKL cadre, identified as Pangamba Boinao alias Nanao Singh, was arrested from Yairipok Changamdabi in Imphal East District.

  • December 1: A 'corporal' of KYKL, identified as Leichombam Thoithoi Singh, was arrested by SFs from Takhel Leikai in Imphal West District.

  • November 25: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Huidrom Premchand alias Bobo alias Chandan alias James, at Sekmaijin area in Imphal West District .

  • November 22: SFs arrested KYKL militant, identified as Ongnam Nimita Devi, from Keishampat near Hotel Excellency in Imphal West District.

  • November 21: SFs arrested one cadre of KYKL, identified as Puyam Amu alias Bisesor, from Langathel Heibungpokpi in Thoubal District. One 9mm pistol was recovered from his possession.

  • SFs arrested one cadre of KYKL, identified as Salam Eboya alias Zalim, from Upokpi Khunau in Bishnupur District.

  • November 20: A suspected militant was killed and another was arrested by SFs at Sora Karanchi Awang Leikai khunou in Thoubal District. Police informed that the victim is suspected to be one Amit and is also suspected to be a cadre of the KYKL outfit. One .9mm pistol along with three live rounds was recovered from him.

  • SFs also arrested a KYKL cadre from Wabagai Yangbi Manam in Thoubal District.

  • November 16: SFs also arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Ningthoujam Kisan, at Waithou in Thoubal District.

  • November 13: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Elangbam Okendro Meitei alias Stalin.

  • November 10: SFs arrested a cadre of KYKL, identified as Oinam Ahingjao alias Pari, from Chingmai Banmon Leikai in Bishnupur District.

  • November 7: SFs arrested three KYKL militants from Kakwa Bazar in Imphal West District. The arrested militants are identified as Longjam Tompok alias Langjaba alias Ibungo alias Tomthin (29), Thiyam Anandkumar alias Theko alias Jackson Singh (26) and salam Sanatomba Singh (29). One .9 mm pistol, a Maruti car and four mobile phones were seized from them.

  • November 5: SFs arrested two KYKL militants, identified as Pukhrambam Jiten Singh alias Korou (41) and Tongbram Dinesh Meetei (42), from their respective houses. On spot verification, Jiten disclosed that he is working under Irom Kumar alias Romi alias Pongba of Tera Sapam Leirak since past 2-3 years. He along with his brother-in-law, Tongbram Dinesh, has been transporting arms and ammunition from one place to another. They are also involved in the collection of huge amount of money from contractors and Government officials. Five Chinese hand grenades with detonators, one .9 mm pistol with two live rounds loaded in the magazine were seized from them.

  • November 4: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Mayanglambam Chaothoi alias Thomas Meitei (26), from Umathel of Thoubal District.

  • SFs arrested one cadre of KYKL-MDF, identified as Haobam Electro alias H Lokendro Singh from Makha Awang Leikai in Imphal West District.

  • November 2: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Pongambam Tomba Singh (47), from Namukhong in Thoubal District.

  • The NIA attached the property of Neera Tamang, a resident of Kurseong sub-division of Darjeeling District in the State of West Bengal and a member of KYKL militant outfit based in Manipur. She had bought a three-storey building situated at Upper Dumaram Busty in Kurseong. The cost of the property has not been ascertained. According to NIA, the KYKL outfit, which is one of the 12 stronger militants group of the total of 49 operating from Manipur alone, has an annual budget of INR 300 million as found from the bank statement.

  • November 1: SFs arrested a KYKL cadre, identified as Inaocha Singh (40), from Sugnu Awang Leikai in Thoubal District.

  • October 30: Five people including three members of the Manipur People's Party have been arrested by Police commandos on the alleged charge of gun running for the KYKL. In the follow up action, two pistols were recovered from a place at Khagempalli in Imphal West District

  • October 23: SFs arrested one cadre of KYKL identified as Ongam Manglam Babu in Sagolmang in Imphal West District.

  • October 17: SFs arrested one KYKL militant identified as Laishram Noren Singh (34) from Thinunggai.

  • October 6: SFs arrested two militants belonging to KYKL-MDF, identified as Soram Shemchand alias Malang (33) and Ngangom Shanta Singh, at Pourabi Mayai Leikai in Imphal East District. Two .9 mm pistols with live rounds, mobile handsets with SIM cards were seized from their possession.

  • September 16: Locals of Heikrak Mapal of Imphal East District caught hold of one militant belonging to the KYKL-MDF later identified as Phijam Khamba, (32) and handed the militant over to the Police.

  • September 15: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Lourembam Sana Singh alias Ibomcha (24), from Kongba Kshetri Leikai in Imphal East District. Sana disclosed that he joined KYKL in 2006 through one Okram Inao. He was trained in Myanmar under the instruction of one Khagemba.

  • September 10: A combined team of SFs arrested a KYKL-MDF militant, identified as Laishram Sushilchandra Singh alias Boy alias Tangleikhomba alias Chingtam (32), at Keishampat Jailer Leirak, near Hotel Excellency in Imphal West District. Two mobile handsets and three SIM cards were seized from his possession. During interrogation, he revealed that he is originally an active cadre of Lalumba faction of KCP-MC. However, he is extorting money from various hospitals, schools and other institutes in the name of KYKL-MDF under the command of one Soni.

  • September 8: SFs arrested one KYKL militant identified as Purnima alias Dayamacha (29) in Heikakpokpi of Thoubal District. Five live rounds of AK 47 were recovered from him.

  • September 7: Altogether 29 militants, including 23 from five armed Naga groups, laid down their arms and surrendered to the Army authority at Leimakhong in Imphal West District. They also handed over 28 weapons including four Kalashnikov rifles, 16 pistols, one Lathode grenade launcher, 645 rounds of ammunition along with 21 magazines and two radio sets to the Army authority.

  • The surrendered militants includes seven cadres each of NSCN-Khole and FGN, six cadres of NSCN-Khaplang, three cadres of PULF, two cadres each of UNLF and NNC and one each of NSCN-Isak-Muivah and KYKL.

  • September 1: Six militants - four from UNLF and one each from KYKL and NSCN-K surrendered in a ceremony held at 116 Battalion, BSF Loktak Project in Bishnupur District.

  • While the UNLF militants were identified as Lian Khosiam alias Siam Boi, Promolin alias Papao, N. Gul Khochon alias Ngamsei and Soubam Somen alias Ningaidaba of Heinoulok, the KYKL and NSCN-K militants were identified as Laisram Akang Singh alias Abungcha and Digai alias David respectively. One .303 Rifle along with a Magazine, three.9mm pistol including with its magazines, 2 Chinese made hand grenade, one Radio set and 15 live ammunitions were recovered from them.

  • August 26: SFs arrested two KYKL militants from the gate of the SDC office, Porompat in Imphal East District. The arrested militants were identified as one Mathurabastimayum Tarjit alias Tomba Sharma (43) and his wife Mathurabastimayum Nanao Devi. On verification they disclosed that they are active members of Military Defense Force faction of KYKL working under the command of one Athouba of 'chief' of KYKL- MDF.

  • August 24: SFs arrested an over ground worker of the KYKL, namely Oinam Sunil Singh (40), in Bishnupur District. A hand grenade has also been recovered from him.

  • August 9: Sixteen militants of different out fits laid down arms in a surrender ceremony at the Assam Rifles headquarter at Mantripukhri. The surrendered militants include three from the UNLF, two from PREPAK, four from PRA, two from UTLA, three from PULF and one each from Oken faction of KYKL and KCP-Noyon. They surrendered six AK Rifles, two M-16 Rifles, one each US made Carbine and Lathode, three 9 mm pistol, one each .32 mm pistol, .38 mm revolver and M-22 pistol and a large amount of ammunition.

  • August 8: Two Over Ground Workers of KYKL identified as Suman Singh (40) and Naoram Robin Singh (28) were arrested by SFs from Bishnupur and Imphal West District respectively.

  • July 16: SFs arrested a cadre of the KYKL, identified as Thokchom Momo Singh alias Raj (30), from Patsoi in Imphal West District. One .9 mm pistol loaded with two live rounds and three misfired rounds in the magazine were recovered from his possession.

  • July 13: At a time when the SFs have intensified their counter-insurgency operations in Manipur, seven militant groups of the state have joined hands and set up a coordinating committee. The committee formation followed a two-day joint meeting of the top leaders of the seven outfits - UNLF, RPF, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK-Progressive, the UPPK and KCP.

  • RPF 'president' Irengbam Chaoren has been nominated as the convener of the newly-formed coordinating committee.

    The joint press statement was signed by Ksh Laba Meitei, KCP president, N Oken (general secretary KYKL), N Nongdrenkhomba (PREPAK chairman), I Chaoren (RPF president), Kh Pambei ('acting chairman UNLF), L Paliba (chairman, PREPAK - Pro) and Laanngamba Luwang (chairman UPPK).

  • July 4: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Moirangthem Ningthembi Singh alias Ningthem alias Roshan (32), from Ningel village in Thoubal District. One 9-mm pistol along with magazine containing two live rounds were recovered from him.

  • July 2: SFs arrested a cadre of KYKL, identified as one Urikhibam Jateshwor Singh alias Inaocha (40), from Chajing Karam area in Imphal East District. He disclosed that he is an active member of KYKL and that he joined the outfit in the year 2006 through one Raju. He was also involved in extortion of money from the general public, government officials besides providing shelter to KYKL and transportation of arms from one place to another.

  • July 1: Three militants of KYKL were arrested by SFs from different parts of Imphal West District of Manipur. Soram Ibohal, a prominent KYKL cadre (46) was arrested from family welfare office. Two other KYKL members, identified as Suranjoy Singh (44) and Deben Kishore (42) were also arrested from Thangmeiband area. One 9 mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition were recovered from Suranjoy Singh.

  • June 22: SFs arrested one top KYKL cadre identified as Gurumayum Munda Sharma alias Basanta from Wabagai Tera Pishak, Thoubal District. The militant has been active in the area since the last few years and one .9mm pistol with three live rounds were recovered from him.

  • June 17: Elsewhere in the District, SFs arrested one KYKL militant, identified as Loitongbam Munindro Meitei alias Rocky.

  • June 15: SFs arrested a militant, identified as Thokchom of Ningthou Leikai Thokchom Pareng of KYKL in Manipur's Thoubal District. SFs recovered one nine mm pistol and two live round of nine mm ammunition from his possession.

  • April 29: One former militant, identified as Salam Sanjoy alias Bono (18), who was handed over to the Army to surrender died under mysterious circumstances. Salam Sanjoy is a former cadre of KYKL who later defected to KYKL-MDF was arrested by the Police some time back.

  • April 18: SFs arrested a cadre of the Military Defense Force faction of KYKL-MDF, identified as Leichombam Tarponjao Singh (25), from Iroisemba Chingjin in Imphal West District and recovered one .9 mm pistol with 3 live rounds of ammunition and one Sony Ericcon mobile hand set. The arrestee disclosed that he joined outfit in March 2008 through one Ningthemjao Toya of Tairenpokpi Ching and Ashok Kumar of Tairenpokpi, who are 'district commander' of Imphal West and recruiter of KYKL-MDF respectively.

  • March 29: SFs arrested one KYKL militant, identified as Pangambam Boinao alias Nanao (22), from Nongbram village in Thoubal District. He disclosed that he is an active member of KYKL and got basic military training at Tamnal in Myanmar.

  • March 18: SFs arrested one KYKL cadre identified as Meitram Yaima Singh alias Phaba (40) at Leimaram Makha Leikai in Bishnupur District.

    SFs arrested another KYKL cadre identified as one Laishram Jiban alias Gautam (32) from Thangal Bazar in Imphal West District. On interrogation, he disclosed on working for the finance section of the outfit under one Tachou alias Vinod and was assigned to extort from Manipur University and businessmen. Three rounds of AK ammunition were recovered from his possession.

  • March 15: SFs arrested one cadre of KYKL namely Maibam Jackie Chan alias Nicky (21) from wangjing Wankhei in Thoubal District. He disclosed himself as an active member of KYKL organization and joined on July, 2008 through one Bipin of Wangkhei and got basic military training at Myanmar.

  • February 20: SFs arrested one KYKL militant, identified as Soibam Somorjit alias Mangoljao Meitei (25), from Hiyanglam Thoubal District.

  • February 19: Security Forces (SFs) arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Laishram Gandhi Meitei alias Nanao (21), from Unapal of Chandel District. He joined the outfit in September 2004 and trained at Kabum, Bishunpur district in Manipur. One pistol, one magazine loaded with three rounds of 9 mm was recovered from him.

  • February 18: SFs arrested one cadre of the proscribed KYKL, identified as Yumkhaibom Oshinto Singh alias Dollar (21), from Sagolmang in Imphal East District.

  • February 16: Two militants, one each from KYKL and UNLF were arrested from Tera Sapam Leikai in Imphal West District.

  • February 11: SFs arrested two militants, one each from PREPAK and KYKL, from Sagolmang area in Imphal East District.

  • February 3: Five militants – three belonging to PREPAK, one each belonging to KYKL and UNLF were arrested from Imphal West District.

  • February 1: SFs arrested three militants belonging to UNLF, KYKL and PREPAK. The arrests were made from Thangmeiband Lairen Sangjaba in Imphal West District, Thangmeiband Sijam Leikai and Mayanglangjing in Lamsang respectively.

  • January 31: Three KYKL militants arrested from Nambashi Khunou village under Kasom Khullen Police station in Ukhrul District. They were deserters from the outfit’s camp in Myanmar.

  • January 14: SFs arrested one OGW of KYKL and KCP identified as Oinam Ibohal (45) from Ishok in Imphal West District. Ibohal was handed over to Mayang Imphal Police Station.

  • January 12: Troopers of Assam Rifles (AR) (29th Battalion) arrested an OGW of the KYKL, identified as Nameirakpam Birjit Singh alias Ibungo (28), from Tengnoupal area of Chandel District. Ibungo was later handed over to Imphal West Police Station.

  • January 11: SFs arrested two KYKL cadres, identified as Leishram Sobha Singh, (32) and Thoudam Gonakhesor (35), from Haoreibi Mayai Leikai area in Thoubal District and handed them over to Mayang Imphal Police station.

  • January 7: 31 Assam Rifles launched a search operation in the area of Gate No. 2 in Moreh and arrested one Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) cadre, identified as Jakhellambam Chalamba Singh (25). Chalamba was later handed over to Imphal West Police station.

2010

  • December 21: Thoubal District Police arrested one OGW of KYKL during frisking and checking operation at Leishangthem Bazar. The arrested OGW was identified as Thoudam Ibungo Singh alias Ingocha (46).

  • December 13: One KYKL cadre, identified as Angom Rakesh alias Pakash alias Ingo (31), was arrested by a combined team of Imphal West Police and troops of 39 AR from an unspecified location.

  • December 10: A cadre of the proscribed KYKL surrendered before the 12 AR from Aishi village of Ukhrul District along with small arm.

  • November 29: Thoubal District Police arrested four female over ground workers of the KYKL while conducting frisking and checking duty at Charangpat Mamang Leikai. The arrestees were identified Laishram Bhani Devi, (40), Oinam Shanti Devi (38), Zhingujam Sobashini Devi (47), and Thangjam Roma Devi (40). An amount of INR 280, 000 in cash was recovered from the possession of Laishram Bhani Devi.

  • November 22: SFs launched a joint operation in Tabungkok Awang Leikai area of Imphal West District and arrested one cadre of the MDF faction of the KYKL, identified as Amuchou alias Ibungo alias Shatihjal (40).

  • SFs arrested two cadres of the KYKL, identified as Yumnam Singh (50) and Hidangmayum Landal Singh (35), from Tengnoupal area in Chandel District.

  • November 21: Troops of 23 AR and 39 AR arrested one cadre of KYKL identified as Haobam Nabakumar (47) from Imphal West District. Both the arrestees were handed over to Lamlai Police station.

  • November 18: A team of the Imphal East District Police arrested one cadre of the KYKL, identified as Chungkham Raju alias Chingkhei alias Yangba Singh (25) from Khurai Lamlong Bazar area.

  • November 15: Troops of 15 AR arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Moirangtham Madhu Singh (56) of Langthabal Awang Leikai of Thoubal District, during search operation conducted his locality. The arrested cadre was handed over to Kakching Police Station.

    Troops of 21 AR, arrested another KYKL cadre, identified as Epham Jonoush (19) of Khetri Awang Leikai, from Irengban village of the same District. Six live rounds of AK 47 ammunitions were recovered from the militant who along with recoveries was handed over to Kakching Police Station.

  • November 13: The troops of 29 AR arrested a suspected militant, identified as one Thokchom Ronald Singh (14), during an operation launched along the NH-39. Singh revealed that he had run away from his house and was moving to Moreh to join the KYKL. Later, he was handed over to his parents through Tengnoupal Police Station, added the release.

  • November 10: Security Forces arrested a KYKL cadre, Moirangthem Kanta Singh alias Arjun, during a search operation from Heirok Pt-I in the District. The militant disclosed that he is an active member of the KYKL under 'Army No. 548' of 15th batch. He also disclosed that he joined the organization in the year 2007 and got basic 'military' training at Tanan in Myanmar.

  • November 4: Thoubal District Police arrested two cadres of the Military Defense Force (MDF) faction of the KYKL. The arrested militants were identified as Wangjam Manglem Singh (33) and Potsangbam Jiban Meitei (39).

  • October 29: One KYKL cadre, identified as Sorokhaibam Brojen (27), was arrested by a combined team of Thoubal District Police and troops of 21 AR during a frisking and checking exercise at Sekmaijin Bazar.

  • October 22: SFs arrested one cadre of the KYKL, identified as Khundongbram Abon Singh alias Senjai (29) while conducting frisking and checking at Heirok Pt-III and Enganglok area of Thoubal District.

  • October 14: Thoubal District Police arrested one cadres of the KYKL, identified as Heiningshubam Ibomcha alias Ingocha Singh (22) from Ingourok Khunou area.

  • October 11: A KYKL sympathizer, Sanasam Naba Singh (44), was arrested by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles at Langthabal Khunou along the National Highway-39. A sum of INR 62,000/- was also recovered from him. He subsequently disclosed that he is the pradhan (chief) of Chairen gram panchayat.

  • October 10: A KYKL cadre, Sagolshem Mamei alias Thabal (24), was arrested by the Thoubal District Police during a search operation in Langathel area. He disclosed that he is currently operating under the ‘command’ of Master Ropol of the outfit.

  • October 5: An over ground worker of the KYKL, identified as Wahengbam Umakanta Singh (50), was arrested by the troops from Nambol Kongkham Mamang Leikai area.

  • October 3: A KYKL cadre, Mutum Lnao Singh alias Ondon (18), was arrested by the Assam Rifles from Sekta on. One 9-mm pistol, four live rounds of 9-mm auto pistol, and 10 live rounds of AK-47 were recovered from him. He was subsequently handed over to Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East District.

  • September 29: Two KYKL cadres were arrested by a combined force the Assam Rifles and Imphal West District Police. They were identified as Naorem Arun alias Korou Singh (23) and Angom Angouton Singh (28). One 9-mm pistol with six live rounds and one cellular phone were recovered from their possession.

  • September 27: Two KYKL cadres were arrested by a combined force of the Imphal West District Police and Assam Rifles from near the temple of Ebudhou Korouhanba at Moidangpok, according to Sangai Express. They were identified as Naorem Arun alias Karou Singh (23) and Angom Angouton Singh (28). They disclosed that they had extorted huge money from general public of Patsoi and Lamsang area under the ‘command’ of Yambung alias Malemnganba for the outfit’s fund.

    A PLA cadre, Thounaojam Debendro (43), and a KYKL cadre, Nahakpam Ingocha alias Soken (32), was arrested by the Thoubal District Police.

  • September 26: A KYKL cadre, Ningthoujam Kanoibi Singh alias Jayanta (31), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Samaram Mayai Keithel area.

  • September 23: A combined team of Imphal West Police and Assam Rifles (AR) arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Moirangthem Ranajit alias Abungcha Meitei (24), from Sagolang Bazar area. The cadre had disclosed to have joined the KYKL outfit in July, 2010 through one Hemjit of Sagolmang and that he was involved in extortion of money from the general public, transportation of arms and ammunition and harbouring cadres of the organization.

  • September 21: A KYKL cadre, self styled ‘sergeant major’ Maibam Basanta Singh (25), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Tentha Thambal Chingya area. He was handed over to the Thoubal District Police.

  • September 16: Two KYKL cadres were arrested by the by the Imphal West District Police from PCTC oil pump at Khoyathong. They were identified as Thangjam Anil alias Thoithoi alias James (21) and Chongtham Dev alias Devchand alias Tomba (29). Th. Anil confessed that he had taken military training in April 2007 under the ‘25th batch’ working under the ‘command’ of one self styled ‘lieutenant’ Khaba of KYKL. One chit mentioning a list of shop owners and one cellular phone were recovered from their possession.

  • September 15: A KYKL cadre, Khumukcham Romesh Singh (31), was arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Kakching Khunou Lamkhai area. One 9-mm pistol was recovered from his possession. He revealed that his ‘army number’ is 6765.

  • September 10: Three KYKL cadres were arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Sawombung crossing area. They were identified as Sorokhaibam Saratchandra (47), Salam Ibomcha Singh alias Premkumar (33) and Laishram Rabi Meitei (30). One 9-mm pistol loaded with one magazine containing eight live rounds was recovered from the possession of Sorokhaibam Saratchandra. They confessed that they joined the outfit in 2007 through one self styled private Chalamba who is operating under the command of self styled finance commander Amudon alias Sunder of Keibi Taret Khun and they had been involved in extortion of money from the general public, Government officials and businessmen among others.

  • September 9: Army arrested one PLA cadre Nongmeikappam Surjit Singh (37) in Bishnupur District. He was involved in providing rations and supplies to PLA and KYKL cadres in Bishnupur District. The release added that the individual was an OGW of PLA at the time of arrest.

  • September 3: A cadre Military Defense Force faction of the KYKL, identified as Elangbam Sanjeet alias Abomcha Singh (38), was arrested by a combined force of the Imphal East District Police and Assam Rifles from Thambalkhong Bridge.

  • August 29: A KYKL cadre, Sougrakpam Johnson alias Anouba (34), was arrested by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles at Leishangthem Thoudam. He was operating in the 'finance section' of the outfit.

  • August 25: Three KYKL cadres, identified as Bobi alias Safiqur Rehman (21), Nanao alias Ratan (23) and H. Romen Singh (23), were arrested by Assam Rifles in Khongkom bazar area on August 25. They were handed over to the Thoubal District Police.

  • August 23: A KYKL cadre M. Ibomcha Singh (43), was arrested by the Assam Rifles from area Yambem in Thoubal District.

  • A KYKL cadre, Puyam Inaocha (25), was arrested by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during another search operation at Kakching bazaar. One 9-mm pistol with a magazine and a Chinese hand grenade were recovered from his possession.

  • August 19: A KYKL cadre, Inaocha Sharma alias Imei alias Khangha alias Momo (24), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Naorem Leikai Sopha Leirak. He disclosed that he joined the outfit in 2007 through one Herojit of Sarmaram and got basic military training at Tanam in Myanmar. He was operating under the ‘command’ of self styled ‘sergeant major’ Prem alias Yaima from Wabagai. He was involved in the Leimaram ambush on Bishnupur District Police under the command of self styled ‘sergeant’ Uttam fighting group.

    A KYKL cadre, Kanan Singh (35), was arrested by the Assam Rifles from Moirang Thoya Leikai of Bishnupur District. He was involved in extortion activities.

  • August 18: Two KYKL cadres, a senior leader of the outfit and his wife were arrested by NIA officials from a house in Kurseong of Darjeeling District in West Bengal. An NIA official identified the arrested cadres as Manjer Singh and his wife Meera Tamang. Manjer. Manjer Singh was reportedly entrusted to spread the outfit’s base in North Bengal, after a senior KYKL leader, Ningthoujam Tomba alias Koireng, was arrested by the District Police from Matigara on March 14. Koireng was in charge of the ‘finance wing’ of the outfit. During his interrogation, the Police came to know how the KYKL had started establishing links with several international terrorists outfit in Nepal, Burma and Bhutan.

  • August 13: A Delhi court sent five cadres of the Manipur based KYKL to 14 days judicial custody. They were identified as Langian alias Manocha, Maibam Radheyshyam, Sapam Samnanda Singh, Sagolshem Samanda and Ningathoujam Geetchandra alias Kalu. They were involved in extortion, bomb explosions and incidents of firing in Manipur. While Kalu was arrested on August 12, four other were arrested on August 11 in Delhi.

  • August 11: Combined force of the Thoubal District Police, Army and the Special Cell of the Delhi Police arrested four cadres belonging to Military Defense Force faction of the KYKL from Shivaji Enclave in West Delhi. They were identified as Longjam Momocha Singh alias Deepak alias Langonba (24), self styled project officer Sagolsem Somananda Singh alias Mahesh (28), Maibam Radheshyam Singh alias Foreign alias Boris alias Dekora (26), and Sapam Shyamananda Singh alias Piktru (28). The combined team also recovered two laptops, mobile phones, 20 demand letters of the faction and ATM cards from their possession.

  • Two cadres belonging to Military Defense Force faction of the KYKL were arrested by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Army from Tanjeng and its surrounding areas. They were identified as Laishram Kingson Meitei alias Bomcha (19) and Sorokhaibam Prem Singh (20). While one 9-mm pistol made in USA, one 9-mm magazine and two live rounds of 9-mm pistol were recovered from Laishram Kingson, one hand grenade was found from the possession of Prem Singh. They were arrested following the reported arrest of four cadres of the same faction from Delhi.

    A KYKL cadre, Phuritsabam Gogo Singh (30), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Uripok Bachaspati Leikai. He disclosed that he had joined the outfit through one Sarat Singh of Mayang Langjing six years back.

    The KYKL called for boycott of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15 in Manipur.

  • July 31: A cadre belonging to Military Defence Force faction of the KYKL, identified as Pangambam Boynao alias Nanao (20), was arrested by a force of the Assam Rifles and Thoubal District Police during a search operation along Nongbrang area. He is currently operating in the 'finance section' of the outfit, He was involved in collecting taxes for the outfit from trucks carrying timber and sand in Yairipok area.

  • July 29: Imphal West District Police arrested three KYKL cadres from their respective houses. The three were identified as Loitongbam Basant alias Tampakcha (35), Aribam Thoi alias Merachandra (28), and Yumnam Naoba alias Swami (27).

  • A KYKL sympathizer, Thoudam Ashok alias Budha Singh (29), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Maibam Leikai.

  • July 28: KYKL cadre, Thokchom Babu Singh (38), was arrested by a combined force of the Army and the Imphal West District Police. He disclosed that he was operating under Kadamjeet, 'finance secretary' of KYKL of Imphal West District.

  • July 24: A cadre belonging to Military Defense Force faction of the KYKL, identified as Waikhom Abung alias Pradip Singh (25), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak in Imphal. One Chinese hand grenade and extortion letter of the faction were recovered from his possession.

  • July 23: Altogether six cadres belonging to three different militant outfits surrendered before the Director General of Police of Manipur Y. Joykumar and Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) Major General C. A. Krishnan in a function held at the Patkai Hall of the Assam Rifles at Mantripukhri in capital Imphal on July 23. They were identified as Ratan alias Prem and Khaidem Yaima Singh alias Suraj of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), Nongthombam Nikan alias Nanao belonging to Unified faction of the Kuki Defence Force (KDF), Mohammed Apik alias Khan, Mohammed Riyajuddin and Bongimayum Manarwak Ali belonging to Azad faction of the People's United Liberation Front (PULF). Arms surrendered by the militants included one AK 47 rifle and five 9mm pistols with magazines.

  • July 13: Nagaland Page reports that four militant groups of Manipur, United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland- Khaplang (NSCN- K) have jointly decided to put up a joint front against the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) in Manipur, following a senior level meeting held in Bangladesh recently. According to sources, United National Liberation Front (UNLF), People's Liberation Army (PLA), ULFA, KYKL, People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and NSCN-K discussed the prevailing situation in Manipur and Nagaland and expressed their satisfaction in putting up a joint front against NSCN-IM in Manipur. UNLF 'chairman', R.K. Meghan reiterated the aim to achieve independence of Manipur and integration of Kabaw valley of Myanmar. He expressed his desire of having good relationship with the NSCN-K, PLA and ULFA.   • July 7: A cadre belonging to Military Defense Force faction of the KYKL, identified as Konsam Ajit Kumar alias Itanao alias Lalphaba (22), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police near a waiting shed of Mayang Langjing Bazar.

  • June 26: At least 19 cadres of three militant outfits formally surrendered before the Manipur Director General of Police, Y. Joy Kumar, and Major General C.A. Krishnan, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), in a function held at Assam Rifles headquarters complex at Mantripukhri in Imphal. They included 15 cadres of the United Liberation Army (ULA) outfit, consisting of its 'commander in chief', 'secretary' and 'financial secretary', three cadres of the KYKL and a cadre of the UNLF. They deposited a large quantity of warlike stores and communication equipment, including an AK Rifle with ammunition, two sten carbines, two 303 rifles, four pistols, a revolver, hand grenades and three wireless radio sets.

  • June 23: Three sympathizers of the KYKL, Yurembam Anil Singh (37), Khoirom Ingobi Singh (38) and Khundrakpam Shanti Singh (46), were arrested by the District Police Commando near the office gate of the state family welfare office in Imphal West District, said press release of the Superintendent of Police, Imphal West.

  • June 10: A KYKL cadre, Lairem Kapam Marao alias N. Gamba Singh (23), surrendered before the Assam Rifles in Chamol area Chandel District. He deposited a 9-mm pistol with magazine and 10 live ammunitions.

  • June 9: A KYKL sympathiser, Nongthonbam Seilandra Singh (24), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Khuyathong. One cellular phone was recovered from his possession. He disclosed that he was opearting under the command of Lakpa of the KYKL since July 2009.

  • June 6: Sentinel reports that 13 militant organizations from the Northeast States of Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya figure in the list of banned organizations as it appears in the website of the Union Home Ministry (MHA). The ULFA heads the list. The other outfits were: NDFB, People's Liberation Army (PLA), and United National Liberation Front (UNLF), People's Revolutionary party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), KYKL, Manipur People's Liberation Front (MPLF), Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) and Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC).

  • June 3: Ttwo Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the KYKL and PREPAK were arrested by the Thoubal District Police during another search operation along an inter-village road connecting Langmeidong and Elang-khangpokpi. The KYKL OGW was identified as Okram Ebey alias Kuber (36) while the PREPAK OGW was identified as Khundrakpam Basanta alias Chaoba (35). They revealed that they were operating under the 'commands' of Laiba of the KYKL and Thouna of PREPAK.

  • May 19: A KYKL cadre, Kabrambam Sanjoy Singh (35), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Keishampat Churachandpur bus parking. He disclosed that he joined the outfit in June 2009 through Landhoni alias Iche belonging to 'finance section' of the KYKL and he extorted a sum of INR 85,000 from Nagamapal shopkeepers and handed over the money to her for the outfit's fund.

  • May 17: A KYKL cadre, Khundrakpam Daniel Singh (39), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police from near the Uripok petrol pump. A cellular phone along with one Subscriber Identity was recovered from his possession. He disclosed that he was asked to extort money from general public and shopkeepers for the outfit's fund.

  • May 15: Elsewhere in the same District, a KYKL cadre, Dhana Sangradham (45), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel at Kakching Khunou.

  • May 10: Three cadres belonging to Military Defense Force faction of the KYKL were arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Naoremthong near District Collector's office. They were identified as Mutum Suranjit Singh alias Micky (24), Telem Sanajanbi Singh (29) and Potshangbam Ajit Singh (28). One 9-mm pistol loaded with one live round in the magazine, one cellular phone with one subscriber identity module card were recovered from their possession. They disclosed that they were operating in the 'finance section' of the outfit under the command of one self styled 'sergeant major' Nongmaithem Prem alias Prema alias Khaba alias Mangang. They also disclosed that they were asked to extort money from Government officials, traders and general public.

  • May 3: The NDFB was maintaining close ties with different anti-India groups having bases in Bangladesh. According to an assessment by the SFs, at least a hundred trained cadres of the outfit are still in Assam, while, around 50 cadres must be in Bangladesh. Sources further said that the NDFB launched joint operations with the ULFA from time to time, but the outfit also maintained close ties with other groups like NSCN-IM, UNLF, All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) and National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) etc, as well as with some other anti-India groups in the neighbouring country. Sources revealed that under pressure in Bangladesh, anti-talk faction of the NDFB recently established a camp in Myanmar and is located near a camp of KYKL.

  • May 2: A KYKL cadre, Sarangthem Tomal alias Malemnganba (25), was arrested by a combined force of the Thoubal District and Assam Rifles during a search operation at Kakching Khunou bazaar area. He had joined the outfit in 2002 and completed his training at Laihas under the 'command' of one Langamba, said the Police.

  • April 30: A KYKL cadre was arrested by SFs during an operation in general area of Khurao-pokpi of Thoubal District. He was identified as self-styled 'corporal' Momojeet alias Lai-phaba (26) of Pallel in Chandel District. Five live rounds of AK rifle were recovered from his possession.

  • April 25: Two cadres belonging to Military Defense Force faction of the KYKL were arrested by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and the Army from Seijang area under Lamlai Police Station. They were identified as Moirangthem Sanjoy alias Goroba (26) and Tayenjam Gunan (29). Following their disclosure, three more cadres of the outfit were arrested by the troops from their respective houses. They were identified as Taorem Robindro alias Lemba (24) of Seijang Awang Leikai, Laishram Medish (35) of the same locality and Thongam James alias Ibungo (23) of Moirang Kampu Awang Leikai.

  • April 24: The KYKL in a statement extended support to the CPI-Maoist and said if like-minded people of the Northeast were united, they and the Maoists could extend support to one another.

  • April 21: A KYKL cadre, Tomanbam Johnson Singh alias Mubi (24), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Thangal bazaar area.

  • April 16: A KYKL cadre, G. Romin Sharma (28), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel at Salungpham areas in Thoubal District.

  • One cadre of the Manipur-based PULF, identified as Kalam Uddin of Makhan Nagar area under Jirighat Police Station in Cachar District of Assam, was arrested by the SFs. One demand note or extortion notice of INR 0.2 million, which was to be served on some individual or business house of the area, was recovered from his possession. PULF after lying low in Barak Valley for long respite has been trying to regroup and spread its presence, following the hiatus created by the surrender of Black Widow (BW) and the subdued presence of PLA, UNLF, PREPAK, KYKL and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP).

  • April 15: A KYKL cadre, Oken Meitei alias Maijao alias Manglemnganba alias Ibothe (21), was arrested by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during a search operation at Waithou Nungei Lamkhai. He disclosed that he was involved in extortion of money in Thoubal.

  • April 10: Myanmar's Ambassador to India U. Kyi Thein at Shillong in Meghalaya said that action against Indian insurgents in its territory will be initiated only after receiving military assistance from India. "We have informed India of our requirements to help us in fighting against the insurgents," the Ambassador said. "India has agreed to provide us our military requirements, but I cannot share with you our requirements," Thein said. He said, "We also shared the same problem (insurgency) like India. This problem will be sorted once India meet our requirements." The report adds that there are at least 15 insurgents' camps operating from Myanmar soil, fighting either for an autonomous or independent homeland in Manipur, Nagaland and Assam. The Centre asked the Myanmar to take action against the militant groups, including Manipur-based United National Liberation Front (UNLF), People's Liberation Army (PLA), KYKL, People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) Assam-based ULFA and Nagaland-based National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) and National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) operating from Sagaing division and the Chin State of Myanmar. Thein said that the problem of insurgency across the India-Myanmar border can be sorted out through infrastructure development. "We (India- Myanmar) now plan to develop infrastructure in the border with special emphasis on enhancing connectivity," the Ambassador informed.

  • April 7: A KYKL cadre, Tonambam Johnson Singh alias Mubi (24), was arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Maharabi area. He disclosed that he joined the outfit under one Giridhani Sharma (30) and he was involved in extortion of money from general public, Government officials and private firms.

  • April 2: Gopeshwar alias Athouba, the 'self-styled chief' of Military Defense Faction of the KYKL, after his arrest from Shillong in Meghalaya, said that most of the insurgent groups are not committed to their professed ideology, but solely interested in exploiting the people to amass wealth. He also said that a good number of the insurgents are in league with some persons in power.

  • March 31: Maisnam Gopeshwar alias Athouba (40), self-styled 'chief' of the Military Defense Force faction of the KYKL, who was arrested by a combined force of the Manipur Police, Meghalaya Police and Army from Shillong city in Meghalaya on March 26, was brought to Imphal by the Police.

  • March 27: Following the confession of self-styled ''chief'' of the Military Defense Force faction of the KYKL, Maisnam Gopeshwar alias Athouba (40), who was arrested from Shillong in Meghalaya on March 26, the Thoubal District Police arrested his younger brother, identified as Khagemba (30), from his residence along with two AK-47 Rifles and ammunition. In the follow up action, one sympathiser, identified as Joyrose Machangnao, was also arrested.

  • March 26: A combined force of the Manipur Police, Meghalaya Police and Army arrested self-styled ‘chief’ of the Military Defense Force faction of the KYKL, Maisnam Gopeshwar alias Athouba (40), from Shillong city, Meghalaya.

  • March 21: A KYKL cadre, Seram Piyarbond alias Iton Singh (45), was arrested by a combined force of the Imphal West District Police and Army from his residence.

  • March 20: Three KYKL cadres, including two women, were arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel when they were travelling in a vehicle at Sita Road Junction area in Imphal West District. They were identified as Shyam Khanal (48), Lilni (40) and Jiban Devi (35). INR 3050 and other provisions were recovered from their possession.

  • March 18: A school teacher was assaulted by the KYKL for his alleged inability to check use of unfair means by students appearing in the ongoing High School Leaving Certificate examination.

  • March 17: KYKL chief, who was arrested from Matigara of Darjeeling District in West Bengal on March 14, had settled in Kurseong in 2007 and was living in a house purchased in the name of his Nepali associate's wife, Police said. He used to make extortion calls to businessmen in Manipur through a satellite phone and his recruits in Imphal used to collect the money for him, said Police. Tomba used to be surrounded by young women, Police said. The two arrested Meitei women, S. Nemcha and N. Rama Chamu, used to accompany him to all foreign trips and are trained in using arms.

  • March 15: A suspected KYKL cadre, Chongtham Naoba alias Sanjoys (23), was shot dead by a combined force of the Assam Rifle and Thoubal District Police during an encounter at Nungjubi foothill under Kakching Police Station. One 9-mm pistol along with three live rounds and one hand grenade were recovered from the possession of the deceased.

  • March 14: ‘Commander in chief’ of the KYKL, identified as Ningthoujam Tomba alias Koireng alias Tomba, was arrested by a combined team of the Manipur Police and West Bengal Police from Khaprail Bazaar area at Siliguri in West Bengal.

  • March 11: The Military Defence Force faction of the KYKL reacted against the recent declaration of the KYKL to track down its remaining cadres as well as supporters, and sated that it would retaliate in case its cadres were targeted.

  • March 5: The KYKL declared ‘shoot at sight order’ for the violators of the code of conduct of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination which is scheduled to take place on March 8-26, 2010.

  • March 2: Three suspected cadres of the Military Defence Force faction of the KYKL were shot dead by a rival faction at Kamuching hills under Yairipok Police Station in Thoubal District. The villagers informed the Police that about five suspected militants were camping in the hill for the past month or so and they were extorting money from passing trucks and auto rickshaws in the area.

  • February 24: The KYKL claimed responsibility for February 23 killing of a surrendered cadre belonging to the MDF faction of the KYKL, identified as Thokchom Farista alias Uttam (23), at the ground of the North East Institute of Science and Technology near Kendra Vidyalaya School under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West District.

  • Two KYKL cadres, identified as Khangabam Surjit Singh (46) and Gurumayum Arjun Sharma (35), were arrested by the Imphal West District Police from near Moirangkhom Oil Pump area.

    A KYKL cadre, identified as Soraisham Millankumar alias Hattapa Singh (42), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Narankonjil Machin near Pukhri Achouba.

  • February 23: Unidentified militants shot dead a surrendered cadre belonging to MDF faction of the KYKL, identified as Thokchom Farista alias Uttam (23), at the ground of the North East Institute of Science and Technology near Kendra Vidyalaya School under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West District.

  • The MDF faction of the KYKL claimed responsibility for the killing of one Mohammed Shalam (53) of Shikhong Khunou Thongtabi in the night of February 13. The outfit alleged that Shalam was an informer of SFs whose disclosure had led to slaying of its cadres.

    Two KYKL cadres, identified as Yumkhaibam Osinto alias Dollar (24) and Heikrujam Ramananda (29), were arrested by Imphal East District Police from Kongpal Eranpham Thongkhong.

  • February 20: Two suspected KYKL cadres were shot dead by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during an encounter at Unapal under Kakching Police Station. One AK 56 rifle with two magazines and 26 rounds, a bayonet, one 9-mm pistol with two magazines and three rounds, two hand grenades and a cellular phone were recovered from possession.

  • February 6: Two KYKL cadres, identified as Mohan Meitei (30) and Nawo alias D. Hanbir (28), were arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Kakching area.

  • February 1: A KYKL cadre, Naocha Meitei alias Ajahta (18), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Korshantabi area in Thoubal District.

  • January 28: Four militants belonging to Military Defense Faction of the KYKL were arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Khuari Chaithabi Leirak. They were identified as Soiyam Sanjit Singh (25), Laishram Dhanabir Singh (50), Chandam Gouramohon Singh (52) and Thingom Joychandra Singh (33).

  • January 23: A cadre belonging to Military Defence Force faction of the KYKL, identified as Sinam Amarjit alias Debo alias Nongshaba Singh (25), was arrested by the Thoubal District Police.

  • January 22: Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Imphal West District, S. Ibomcha Singh said that Imphal West District Police arrested 10 PREPAK cadres, including two women, for their involvement in the January 6 bomb attack at the residence of former Manipur Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam. In the same counter-insurgency operation, the Police also arrested a KYKL cadre and foiled a recruitment bid by the PREPAK by rescuing two minors from agents of the outfit.

  • January 21: A KYKL cadre, Suknam Naobi Singh alias RS (21), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Kairak Mamang Leikai.

  • January 20: Two KYKL militants, identified as Chingabam Chandramani Singh (29) of Konjeng Awang Lamdong Leikai and Mutum Shamu Singh (30) of Lamlong Bazaar, were arrested by a combined team of Imphal West District Police commandos and 28 Assam Rifles from Ragailong Pandon area.

  • January 19: A KYKL cadre, Kangmujam Somerendro Singh alias Toni alias Ingobi alias Imobi (30), was arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Okram Chuthek. He confessed that he was operating under one Santa from Patsoi and had collected INR 200,000 from MG avenue area and another INR 500,000 from the furniture shops from Tiddim road and Kwakeithel areas.

  • January 19: A KYKL cadre, Yambem Hopson (23), was arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Khewa Bazar area. One Chinese made 9mm pistol with four live rounds was recovered from his possession. He disclosed that he joined the KYKL in October 2009 through one Deva and was involved in extortion of money from the general public.

  • January 17: Two KYKL cadres are arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Kakching. They are identified as Naorem Nimaichand Singh (50) and Salam Achou Singh (50). They are involved in extorting money from general public of Kakching under the 'command' of one Somerendro of the outfit.

  • January 11: A KYKL cadre, Iboyaima Meitei (36), is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Chairel Khunjao area in Thoubal District. Two live rounds of 9-mm, one fired cartridge case of 9-mm and two fired cartridge cases are recovered from his possession.

  • January 9: Two PREPAK cadres, involved in the January 6 bomb attack at the residence of Manipur Opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam at Thangmeiband, are arrested by a combined force of the Imphal West District Police and Assam Rifles. They are identified as Moirangthem Monao alias Parimacha alias Mohen alias Sana (26) and Laikhuram Munal Singh alias Santahoi (24). One loaded 9-mm pistol, one magazine of AK-47 rifles with three live rounds and one two wheeler vehicle and one cellular phone are recovered from their possession. They reveal during their interrogation that they were operating under one R.K. Jemson alias Rozar alias Ramananda alias Nongpoknagnba (32) of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda. They confess their involvement in the killing of one non local sugar juice vendor at Kwakeithel Bazar on March 1, 2009, killing of one non local barber at Sagolband Khumbong Mayum, lobbying of hand grenade at computer shop at Lamphel Sanakiethel, setting ablaze of Ujala Restaurant at Kwakethel, setting ablaze of Joychandra Garden at Langol and extortions of money from various shops and restaurants and saw mills and other business establishments in the Imphal areas. They also disclose that the recent serial killings of non locals in the State were the handiwork of the PREPAK, PLA, UNLF and KYKL as per a ‘decision’ taken at the top level to destabilise the present Manipur Government.

  • January 4: A KYKL cadre, identified as Uritkhinbam Manglem Singh (32), is arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Sekmaijin Khunou area. Four live rounds of AK ammunitions are recovered from his possession. He joined the outfit in 2005 through one self styled ‘2nd lieutenant’ Likpa of ‘finance section’ of the outfit.

  • December 28: A KYKL sympathizer, Salam Tomba Singh (34), is arrested by the Thoubal District Police during a search operation in and around Langmeidong area. He confesses that he was giving shelter for KYKL cadres in his house from the middle of part of 2009.

  • December 18: The Imphal West District Police foil the bomb attack at Chingmeirong by arresting four cadres, including one woman, belonging to the KCP and KYKL.

  • December 13: An over-ground worker (OGW) of the KYKL, Haobijam Ibomcha alias Roshan Singh (26), is arrested by the Thoubal District Police in the vicinity of Loktak Lake. He is involved in extortion drive.

  • November 26: A cadre belonging to the Military Defense Force faction of the KYKL, identified as Oinam Ranjit alias Khogen (28), is arrested by a combined force of the Imphal West District Police and Army from North AOC area, while trying to board a bus for Dimapur in Nagaland. The arrested militant discloses that he was working under the ‘command’ of one Litpa and had received training at Khoupum forest. Following his confession, Security Forces recover one AK-47 rifle with one magazine along with 25 live ammunitions.

  • November 22: A KYKL militant, identified as Nameirakpam Thoithoi Singh (31), is arrested by the troops from Nambol Khajiri area in Imphal West District.

  • November 20: The Military Defence Force faction of the KYKL declares that any individual who is found using the outfit’s name for carrying out extortion will be given ‘capital punishment’.

  • November 12: The Imphal West District Police arrested two persons from Uripok Cheirap Court, identified as Angom Dilip Singh (36) and his wife Angom Ongbi Sushma Devi, for alleged involvement in organising manpower for the KYKL and UNLF and also transporting recruited youths from Imphal to Guwahati in Assam under the 'command' of one Milan of Kakwa in Imphal.

  • October 26: 12 militants, including five cadres belonging to the Military Defence Force faction of the KYKL, surrender at Assam Rifles headquarters in Churachandpur District.

  • October 7: A KYKL militant, identified as Jeeten Singh (43), is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Kakwa under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West District.

  • October 5: Three suspected militants of the Military Defence Force faction of the KYKL, arrested by the Bishnupur District Police during an encounter at Leimaram Keithel on October 3, are remanded to eight days in Police custody. They are identified as Yambem Biren (36), Heikham Priyokumar (38) and Leikham Thanil (18).

  • October 4: A KYKL militant, Mayanglambam Parashuram alias Bobby (34), is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation at Umathel in Thoubal District.

  • October 3: Three suspected cadres belonging to the Military Defence Force faction of the KYKL and two civilians are killed during an encounter between militants and the Bishnupur District Police at Leimaram Bazaar under Nambol Police Station. A Policeman is also wounded in the encounter. Subsequently, three more cadres of the outfit are arrested from the encounter site.

  • October 2: Two KYKL militants, Pukhrambam Dhanabir alias Dhana (30) and Warekpam Kanta (35), are arrested by the Imphal West District Police. Two cell phones were recovered from their possessions.

  • September 30: Assam Rifles personnel arrested four militants at Kakching in Thoubal District. They are identified as Serimayum Amarjeet Sharma of the PREPAK, Nongmaithem Roshan Singh of the PLA, Nongmaithem Surjit Singh of the KYKL and Khetrimayum Jemes of the UNLF.

  • September 22: A KYKL militant, Shengjam Ingocha Meitei (28), is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Kakching Lamkhai in the Thoubal District.

  • A KYKL militant, Irengbam Gitchandra Singh (41), is arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Kakching Khunou Lam-Khai. He confessed during interrogation that he was operating in the 'finance section' of the outfit.

  • September 11: A KCP militant, Moirangthem Thambal alias Ijou (29), is arrested by a combined force of the Imphal East District Police and Assam Rifles from Yairipok area. According to Police sources, Thambal was operating with the KYKL outfit till 2008 and later joined the KCP since October 2008 and involved in several extortions in Yairipok area since July 2009.

  • September 9: A KYKL militant, Yumnam Naocha Singh, is arrested by a combined force of the Imphal East District Police and Assam Rifles personnel from Lamphel.

  • A sympathiser belonging to the Military Defnce Force of the KYKL is arrested by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during a search operation at Tokpaching.

  • September 7: Three cadres belonging to Military Defence Force group of the KYKL, including one suspected to be involved in the killing of a passenger bus driver, are shot dead by the Bishnupur District Police during an encounter atop the hillock near Ningthoukhong Khunou. One AK-56 Rifles, one magazine loaded with eight live rounds of ammunition, three fired cartridges, one M-16 Rifles, one magazine loaded with 13 live rounds, two missed fire cartridges, one Austrian made pistol, one magazine loaded with two bullets, three Chinese made hand grenades, one ICOM Radio set and one mobile hand set were recovered from the encounter site.

  • A KYKL militant, Thngjam Nadu Singh, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Wangoo Sabal in Thoubal District.

  • September 4: A KYKL cadre, Brahmacharimayum Dhanachandra Sharma alias Deva, is arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Tentha Khunou area. One HE hand grenade is recovered from his possession.

  • September 1: Two militants belonging to the Manipur Defence Force group of the KYKL, identified as Leishangthem Ngouba alias Cyprust and Oinam Dinachandra Singh alias Nagan, are arrested by the Imphal West District Police from North AOC area. One Chinese hand grenade with detonator, one .32 pistol along with Magazine and eight rounds of live ammunition, three demand letters of the group signed by its 'finance secretary' Khaba Mangang and one blank demand letter and one cell phone are recovered form Ngouba's possession. Two Chinese hand grenades along with two detonators, one vehicle and its registration document belonging to one Oinam Inaobi and one driving license are seized from the possession of Dinachandra.

  • August 30: A local contractor, Takhelmayum Joy Singh, is shot dead by unidentified militants in his courtyard at Nongren Mayai Leikai under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East District. Police sources reveal that T. Joy had been arrested once by the Police 10 years back for being a KYKL sympathiser, and he had led normal life after being released from prison on bail.

  • August 10: A KYKL militant, identified as Mayengbam Tomba alias Raju, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation at Langmeidong village in Thoubal District.

  • August 5: A KYKL militant, identified as Lung Lai Ngam, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel while traveling in a passenger vehicle at Khudengthabi in the Imphal West District. Lung Lai Ngam confessed during interrogation that he had joined the group in October 2008.

  • August 4: A suspected militant, Sanasam Rishikanta, is shot at and wounded by unidentified gunmen at Hundung Lamkhai in Ukhrul District. Police suspect the wounded militant belongs to a recent breakaway group of the KYKL. The report adds that in July 2009 around 60 armed KYKL militants after killing nine of its own cadres and snatching several arms broke away from the KYKL somewhere along the India-Myanmar border area and later formed a faction called the Military Defence Force.

  • August 1: A KYKL militant, Kshetrimayum Joy Kumar alias Joy Kumar, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation at Keirambikhok area in Thoubal District.

  • July 30: A KYKL militant is arrested by a combined team of the Imphal West District Police and Assam Rifles during a search operation at Phayeng Ching Khunou near Pathar bazaar area. Three live ammunitions of AK series Rifle are recovered from his possession.

  • July 25: A 'sergeant major' of the KYKL, identified as Oinam Nalendra Singh, and a linkman, Rajkumar Premjit, are arrested by the Assam Police from an unspecified location of Guwahati city.

  • July 22: Three KYKL militants are arrested by a combined team of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles from Kakching Lamkhai. They are identified as Moirangthem Gobin Singh (22), Pukhrambam Nijashwor Singh and Nepram Naobi Singh (18). They confess during their interrogation that they joined the KYKL through one Sana alias Merajao and were operating in the 'finance section' of the outfit.

  • July 19: Manipur’s Director General of Police, Y. Joykumar, says that the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) is the frontal organisation of the KYKL. The report adds that some leaders of the student organisation were booked under the National Security Act (NSA), in connection with the killing of Manipur University Professor Mohammed Islamuddin. The Police chief says, "This student organisation, so called DESAM, I think everyone in the State of Manipur is quite fully aware that this is a student frontal organisation of KYKL and with the backing of KYKL, the State has seen them taking the law into their own hands on a number of occasion…KYKL has come out claiming the killing of Professor Md Islamuddin. Now as a policeman, as a police officer, we have to see who else are involved in the killing....The fact remains that there is a linkage between DESAM and KYKL."

  • July 18: A KYKL cadre, N. Nocha Meitei, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel under Kakching Police Station in Thoubal District.

  • July 16: A breakaway group of the KYKL led by ‘captain’ Rishikanta at a press conference in Thoubal District criticizes the leadership and says that it would be operating as a separate group called as Military Defence Force. The group had on June 21 overrun a camp outside Manipur killing nine KYKL cadres, including a ‘lieutenant colonel’ of the outfit.

  • July 11: SFs arrest a KYKL militant, identified as Nandeibam Meghachandra alias Megha alias Loya (31) of Lairenjam Mayai Leikai, from Hiyangthang Maning Leikai area of the capital Imphal. During interrogation, Nandeibam Meghachandra confesses that he joined KYKL in October 1997 through Sorokhaibam Pepic alias John (31), a ‘District Commander’ of the outfit, and was assigned to serve demand letters and extort money from Government employees, brick fields and private hospitals located at Koirengei.

  • July 8: Imphal West District Police arrested one KYKL militant, identified as Chungkham Raju alias Yangba (29) from his house at Kakwa Sairom Leirak at around 1.30 pm (IST). Raju confessed that he was working under Captain alias Thoithoiba alias Soberson who is the ‘Imphal West District Commander’ of the outfit and he was assigned to serve demand letters to grocery shops located at Keishampt area and Nagamapal RIMS Road.

  • July 1: A Manipuri filmmaker, Laimayum Surjakanta Sharma, was arrested, after actress Devita Devi, for having links with militants. Laimayum Surjakanta Sharma was arrested after an identity card issued by him for a Doordarshan production was found from the KYKL leader R.K. Raghunath, who was arrested along with Devita Devi from a hotel in the national capital New Delhi. Surjakanta Sharma is also the vice president of the Film Forum Manipur.

  • June 27: A combined team of the Bishnupur District Police and Delhi Police arrested a militant of the KYKL during a raid conducted at Hotel Mahal Guest House in the South Extension area of national capital New Delhi. According to an official source, R. K. Raghunath alias Chinglennganba alias Thinao alias Laiba alias Nongshaba (48), a self styled "captain" of the KYKL, was arrested from the hotel along with a well known film actress of Manipur, Urikhinbam Devita.

  • June 25: The Bishnupur District Police arrest five militants of the PREPAK and KYKL during a search operation at Ningthou-Khong Bazaar area. They are identified as R. K. Mema Devi alias Dhaneshori, Kongbrailatpam Usharani Devi, Chabungbam Ibemcha Devi, Phairembam Randhoni Devi and Moirangthem Sangita Devi alias Ibemcha.

  • June 15: Assam Rifles personnel arrested six militants - two belonging to the KYKL and four from the PREPAK - during a search operation at Hiyanglam Hiranmai under Kakching Police Station in Thoubal District. While the KYKL militants are identified as Romen and M. Katia, the PREPAK cadres were identified as Shyamkumar alias Guni, Rishikanta alias Shanta, Dinesh alias Ibungo and Somorjit alias Bocha. One 9-mm pistol magazine, one 9-mm ammunition and 13 live rounds of AK ammunition are recovered from their possession.

  • A KYKL militant, Laishram Sohodeva Singh alias Raising, is arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Wangoi Bazaar. Laishram Sohodeva confessed that he joined the KYKL in December 2004 and got basic military training from the Hong Kong training centre at Chittagong in Bangladesh. He said that he was currently operating at the MI camp in Chittagong.

  • June 4: Three KYKL militants are arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Kongba and another cadre of the outfit is arrested from Palace Gate.

  • May 30: One India Reserve Battalion Rifleman, Kangjam Dimajit, is remanded to Police custody for seven days till June 6 for his involvement in the killing of Manipur University Professor Mohammed Islamuddin inside the campus. He surrendered at Singjamei Police Station on May 28. The KYKL in a press release on May 26 reportedly claimed responsibility for publicly executing the professor in broad daylight in the university campus saying that he was the ring leader of a clique within the MU which was usurping all powers of the University and using it to their selfish ends.

  • May 28: The PULF, reacting to the May 25 killing of a Manipur University (MU) Professor, Mohammed Islamuddin, inside the campus, questioned the charges levelled by the KYKL against the slain academician. The KYKL in a press release on May 26 reportedly claimed responsibility for publicly executing the professor in broad daylight in the university campus saying that he was the ring leader of a clique within the MU which was usurping all powers of the University and using it to their selfish ends. The 'secretary general' of the KCP outfit, Khamba Luwangcha, says it is unfortunate that such a killing should have come at a time when the people are crying out against 'State sponsored terrorism' wherein Police Commandos and Security Forces level charges after eliminating someone.

  • May 27: The Joint Action Committee, formed against the May 25 killing of Manipur University (MU) professor, Mohammed Islamuddin, refutes the charges of the KYKL levelled against the slain academician as baseless and unfounded. The KYKL in a press release on May 26 reportedly claimed responsibility for publicly executing the professor in broad daylight in the university campus saying that he was the ring leader of a clique within the MU which was usurping all powers of the University and using it to their selfish ends.

  • May 21: A KYKL militant, Mohamad Hafiz, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Moreh in Chandel District. He confesses that he was operating as an informer of the outfit.

  • May 18: A KYKL militant, Tomba Singh, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Bongyang in Chandel District while travelling in a vehicle to Moreh. 39000 Actified tablets are recovered from his possession.

  • May 15: Six suspected KYKL militants are shot dead by a combined team of the Imphal West District Police, Assam Rifles and Army during an encounter at a hillock located between Koutruk and Haraothel at the junction of Imphal West and Senapati Districts. Five AK-56 rifles, five magazines, 77 live rounds, one pistol with three live rounds and two Chinese hand grenades are recovered from the encounter site.

  • A KYKL militant, Kiyam Lalit Singh, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from the general area of Tangling under Kakching Police Station.

  • May 13: Three KYKL militants, identified as K. Surjit Singh, Pebam Ibotombi alias Tondon Singh and Thoudam Tomba alias Herojit Singh, are arrested by a combined force of Imphal East District Police and Assam Rifles from Kongpal Laishram Leikai. They confess of joining the KYKL in 2008 through one Romy of Kongba Laishram Leikai and Kumar of KYKL respectively and they are involved in extortion of money from general public and Telecom Department.

  • A KYKL cadre, Meinam Somorendro Singh, is arrested by Imphal West District Police from Paona Bazar. He confesses that he along with his associate, identified as Manihar, were involved in extortion of money from shop owners of Paona Bazar and general public. He discloses that he is currently serving as a Rifleman of India Reserve Battalion.

  • May 9: Two KYKL militants, Rabindro Sharma and K. Dolendra Singh, are arrested by the Assam Rifles when they are extorting money from a shop at Marwari Patti area in Dimapur of Nagaland. Tax receipts of KYKL, a large sum of Indian and Korean currencies, and SBI ATM Cards are recovered from their possession.

  • May 8: A KYKL militant, Joy Singh, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation at Sugnu bazaar area.

  • May 6: The Zeliangrong Union (ZU) condemned the presence of KYKL militants in the Longlei Apinjang (Leimatak) area of Old Cachar road, where tension is prevailing between Kuki and Zeliangrong communities. A press statement issued by its general secretary S. Xavier Pamei says, "The ZU and Zeliangrong people ask the concerned outfit to shift from Longlei Apinjang area to avoid any untoward misunders-tanding". The statement also urged all other valley and hill based insurgent groups to stay away from the area to avoid any untoward incident. ZU and Zeliangrong people would consider those groups failing to acknowledge the appeal as perpetrators, cautions the statement.

  • May 5: A KYKL miltiant, Yengkhom Pocha alias James, is arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Wabagai area.

  • May 2: A KYKL over-ground worker, identified as Sanjay Rajkumar of Sagolband, is arrested by troops from a place under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West District. He confesses during his interrogation that he was earlier a 'tax collector' of the PLA and presently working for the KYKL.

  • A KYKL militant, identified as Leishangthem Suresh Singh alias Tomba (24), son of Leishangthem Toman Singh, resident of Wangu Sabal in Thoubal District, is arrested by Assam Rifles personnel. Four live rounds of AK 47 were recovered from the possession of the arrested militant.

    Two KYKL militants, identified as Yengkhom Shyam Kanhai alias Sanjoy (20), son of late Yengkhom Thanil, resident of Thing (Sendra), Bishenpur and Khoirakpam Bhaiga Chandra Singh, son of late Kh Barni, resident of Thing (Sendra), Bishenpur while moving towards Imphal are arrested by Assam Rifles personnel.

    A woman, identified as Keisham Ningol Aheibam Ongbi Rameshori alias Bembem, is shot dead by unidentified militants at her residence at Iroisemba Maning Leikai under Lamphel Police station in Imphal West District. She is the wife of a former KYKL militant Aheibam Nanao.

  • April 29: A former militant, 26-year old Meinam Nanao alias Tangden, is dragged by unidentified militants from his residence and later shot dead at Ningthemcha Khul Mamang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station of Imphal East District. Tangden had joined the KYKL in 1998-99 and had undergone military training with the outfit. He subsequently deserted the outfit on health grounds and was staying at home doing cultivation work to supplement the income of the family.

  • April 27: Two KYKL militants, Wahengbam Inao alias Khomei and Khundram Arun Singh, are arrested by the Imphal West District Police during a search operation at Konjeng Leikai Club Keithel area.

  • April 26: A KYKL cadre, Amujao Singh, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel when he was collecting 'tax' from general area of Moreh Trade Centre at ward No. 7.

  • April 20: The KYKL and UNLF jointly ask the administration of the Manipur University to defer the forthcoming election of its Students Union, scheduled to be held on April 24, citing alleged irregularities in the registration process.

  • April 19: Two armed miscreants identifying themselves as KYKL cadres snatch away a vehicle and valuable items, including jewellery, two cell phones and INR 1400, from one person, Manoharmayum Barish Sharma, who belongs to Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal area at Dingku Road in Imphal West District.

  • April 11: The KYKL outfit threatens the Joint Action Committee against its call for a general shutdown on April 13 protesting the killing of three Ukhrul District officials by the NSCN-IM militants on February 13.

  • March 30: A KYKL cadre, Melem Abung alias Ibungo Singh, is arrested by a combined force of Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles from Yairipok bazar area.

  • March 29: Two KYKL cadres, T. Pinky alias Arun alias Danid Sharma and Nongthombam Amit alias Ayangba Meetei, are arrested a combined force of Imphal East District Police and Assam Rifles from Kongpal area.

  • March 26: The KYKL claims responsibility for the March 23 killing of a trader, Deepak Gupta, at Thangal Bazaar, for his failure to pay 'tax' to the outfit.

  • March 23: Assam Rifles personnel arrest a PREPAK militant, Motun Thakur alias Deva, and a KYKL militant, Leichungbam Sushil Kumar alias Nanghaba, from Sekmai area in the Imphal West District.

  • March 22: A combined team of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles arrests one cadre each of the UNLF and KYKL during a search operation at Kakching Khunou. While the UNLF militant is identified as Phairembam Shakti alias Iboyaima, the KYKL cadre is identified as Haobijam Noren.

  • March 21: Two KYKL militants, identified as Nongmaithem Sagar alias Naobi and Meishnam Bona, are arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Tangjeng area.

  • March 18: Three KYKL militants while traveling in a vehicle are arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel in general area of Pallel Market under to Kakching Police Station in the Thoubal District. They are identified as K. Jadu Singh, K. Kadamlash Singh and Th. Lokandro Singh.

  • March 10: Two KYKL cadres, Mutum Dinesh alias Ibungo and Sagolsem Atoy alias Lukhoibi, are arrested by a combined force of the Imphal West District Police and Army from Uripok Yambem Leikai area.

    Two KYKL militants, identified as Loitongbam Dayananda Singh alias Chabi and Ningthoujam Dinesh Singh, are arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Meitei Lamkhai in Lilong Chajing area. One motorcycle and a cell phone are recovered from their possession. The duo confessed that they were asked to extort money from the locals of Meitei Lamkhai and Yairipok areas for the outfit.

    A KYKL militant, Khundongbam Sunil Singh alias Inaoton alias Ngacap, is arrested by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during a search operation at Heirok. He confessed during interrogation that he received military training at Kabo valley in Myanmar and was currently in the Thoubal District.

  • March 6: Two PREPAK cadres and one cadre of the KYKL are arrested by a combined team of the Imphal East District Police and Assam Rifles from Minuthong. They are identified as Nongthonbam Jila Singh, Huidrom Achouba Singh and Laimujam Ibungo Meitei alias Chinglen.

    Two KYKL cadres while trying to flee with one bike from a workshop in general area of Moreh are arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel. They are identified as Chatar Singh and Sanuyaima.

    A KYKL cadre, Kshetrimayum Suresh Singh, is arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Sagolband Tera area.

  • March 5: The ‘commander of the joint task force, human resource’ of the UNLF and KYKL, Lamjingba, produces a school teacher, Chungkham Rameshwar Singh, before the media in Imphal West District and declares that he would be shot at for allegedly misguiding the students in using unfair means in the ongoing Class X exam.

  • February 28: Troops arrest four militants belonging to the PLA, Military Council faction of the KCP and KYKL during separate search operations in the Bishnupur District.

  • February 15: Three militants of the KCP and KYKL are arrested by the SFs from Hainoubok and Iroishemba areas in the Imphal West District.

  • February 7: A suspected KYKL militant is shot dead by the Assam Rifles personnel at Wangphulok under Tengnoupal Police Station in the Chandel District. One M-16 rifles, 10 live rounds, one bag, socks, towel, soaps, tooth brush and a hand-book related to KYKL are recovered from the incident site.

    A KYKL militant is shot dead by the Assam Rifles personnel at Unapal under Kakching Police Station in the Thoubal District. One Bulgarian made 9-mm pistol and a magazine containing five live rounds are recovered from the incident site.

    A suspected KYKL cadre is shot dead by the Thoubal District Police during an encounter at Phundrei Langathel. While other militants manage to escape, one 9-mm pistol and a magazine with two live rounds are recovered from the encounter site.

  • February 4: Five militant groups, the UNLF, PLA, KYKL, PREPAK and KCP, jointly ‘award’ the death sentence to two men, Ipham Amir Khan and Achom Romen Singh, for their alleged involvement in the January 22 rape and killing of a handicapped woman vendor, Achom Romen, at Moreh in the Chandel District.

  • February 2: A KYKL cadre, identified as Athokpam Tomba Singh, is arrested by a combined team of Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during a search operation at Wangoo Nongyaikhong Khongban.

  • January 29: The Assam Rifles personnel arrest a PLA militant, Puthem Khelen Singh, and a KYKL militant, Puthem Amuchou Singh alias Saratchandra, during a search operation at Andro Bazaar under Yairipok Police Station in the Thoubal District.

    A suspected cadre of the Manipur-based KYKL outfit, identified as Ramesh Maitie, is arrested by the Jaintia Hills District Police from Dawki under Jowai Police Station.

  • January 25: A suspected KYKL militant, Soraisham Joy alias Dajoy, is arrested by the SF personnel from Sagoltongba Lanshonbi Bazaar under Patsoi Police Station in the Imphal West District.

  • January 22: A KYKL cadre, identified as Khumukcham Thoiba alias Tomba alias Jilla, is shot dead by a combined team of Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during an encounter at Wabagai Leirak Achouba.

  • January 20: Two suspected KYKL cadres are shot dead by a combined force of the Imphal West District Police and Assam Rifles during an encounter along the road connecting Kanglatongbi and Makhan under Sekmai Police Station in the Senapati District. One AK Rifle, one magazine loaded with 10 live rounds of ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade and a two wheeler vehicle are recovered from the possession of the slain militants.

  • January 19: A suspected KYKL militant is shot dead by Police during an encounter at Wabagai Leirak Achouba under Kakching Police Station in Thoubal District. A 9-mm pistol and a magazine loaded with two live rounds of ammunition are recovered from his possession.

  • The Thoubal District Police arrested a KYKL cadre, Elangbam Sunil Singh, from Wabagai area. He is involved in the killing of non-Manipuri civilians between Hayel and Hangul village under Mayang Imphal Police Station in March 2008.

  • January 13: A KYKL cadre, Gurumayum Romen Sharma alias Bung, is arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Wangjing bazaar area.

  • January 11: A suspected KYKL cadre is shot dead by a combined team of Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during an encounter near Angangching along Tejpur Road. While two other militants manage to escape, one Norinco 9-mm pistol, one magazine and five live rounds of 9-mm ammunition are recovered from the encounter site.

  • January 8: Meghalaya Police neutralize the 'finance cell' of the Manipur-based KYKL when they arrest five suspected militants, including two women cadres, from a rented house in the Malki area of capital. A computer, incriminating documents, including demand notes, INR 50,000 and four mobile sets are recovered from the incident site. They are identified as Ningthoujam Ronen, his wife Chamcal Bino Bala, Haobijan Dingku Singh, his wife Pramo Haobijan Maipakpi, and Thokchom Ibomcha Singh. Police said the KYKL cadres had set up the 'finance cell' in Shillong only a few months back. The modus operandi of the KYKL is to distribute the demand notes in Manipur and collect the money in Shillong through courier. The arrested cadres are booked under Sections 120b, 121 and 384 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860 read with Section 10/13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

  • January 4: An achievement report released by the Superintendent Police of Imphal West District, L. Kailun, states that 91 militants, including seven KYKL cadres, were shot dead and 343 others, including 48 KYKL cadres, arrested by the District Police during counter-insurgency operations in 2008. The report says of the 343 arrested, 83 were detained under the National Security Act (NSA). 88 assorted weapons and 989 ammunitions were recovered from the arrested and slain militants, the report adds. In addition, the report further says INR 1, 95,280 were also recovered from these militants.

  • January 3: A KYKL cadre, P. Prem Kumar alias Iboucha, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation between Yairipok and Top Chingtha in the Thoubal District.

2008

  • December 31: A KYKL hideout is neutralised when an encounter takes place between militants and a combined team of the Army and the Bishnupur District Police at Tharopat in Ngaikhong Mamang Leikai of Loktak lake area. Army sources say automatic weapons, assorted ammunition, explosives, landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), Chinese grenades and propaganda material including pamphlets and CDs were recovered. The recoveries include two AK-56 rifles, 12 AK magazines, 174 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, 177 rounds of AK-56 ammunition, 50 rounds of .22 ball ammunition, 20 UBGL grenades, 15 anti-personnel mines, one Chinese grenade, eight sets of combat uniform, one television, one generator, six gas cylinders, IED material and explosives, ruck sacks and pouches along with other war like stores and three country boats.

  • December 30: A KYKL cadre, Mongjam Kiranjit alias Boy, is arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Kongba crossing.

  • December 29: 15 boys of Class XII of the Kanan Devi Memorial School who attempted to assault a teacher of the school and assaulted the driver of a school bus, when the latter tried to intervene, are summoned by the ‘Joint Task Force for Human Resource’ of the KYKL and UNLF and are whipped as ‘punishment’ before the media at an unspecified place in the Thoubal District.

  • December 27: A KYKL cadre, Wahengbam Ronal alias Malem, is arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Lamlong bazaar. Wahengbam confesses during interrogation that he joined the outfit in December 2006 and received training in Myanmar.

  • December 25: A KYKL militant, Thoudam Sonik Mangang, is arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Uripok Bachaspati Leikai.

  • December 19: A team of Imphal East District Police arrests a KYKL cadre, Kshetrimayum Sanjit alias Thoi, from Kongba near Meitei Mayek High School. Sanjit confessed during interrogation that he joined KYKL in December 2007 and was involved in extortion of money from the general public and Government officials.

  • December 13: A team of Imphal East District Police personnel arrests one KYKL cadre, Yambem Raj Singh alias Momocha, from Lamlong Bazaar. He confesses during interrogation that he joined the KYKL in July 2008 and was engaged in extortion activity.

  • December 8: SFs arrest one cadre of the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as ‘finance secretary’ Mohammed Waris Ali alias Sana, and a KYKL cadre, Arunjit alias Naobi, from Yairipok bazaar.

  • December 2: The KYKL militants set ablaze an Imphal-Moreh bound vehicle near Moreh gate No. 2 in the Chandel district, for allegedly carrying a tobacco consignment. The vehicle is owned by a person belonging to the Kuki community.

  • December 1: Thoubal district police commandos arrested one KYKL cadre, Bomcha alias Bobo alias Amujao, from Wabagai Tera Pishak.

  • November 30: Two suspected KYKL cadres are shot dead by a team of Thoubal police commandos during an encounter at Sekmaijin Napatkhong under Kakching police station. The police recover one 9-mm pistol along with four live rounds and one Thomsom carbine from their possession.

  • November 17: A KYKL militant, Ningombam Newton alias Eputon Singh, is arrested by the Imphal West district police from his residence at Thongju Pichu Lampak. Newton confessed during interrogation that he joined the KYKL in March 2002 and was asked to serve demand letters at Singjamei and Thongju for the outfit’s funds.

  • November 12: Two KYKL cadres, identified as Chirom Tiken alias Premkumar and Yendrembam Shyamkumar alias Boy, were arrested by a combined force of Bishnupur district police commandos and Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation in the Waheng Khuman area. Two locally-made pistols and three live rounds of ammunition were recovered from their possession.

  • November 11: Two KYKL cadres, including one suspected Thoubal ‘district commander’ of the outfit, are shot dead by the Assam Rifles during an encounter at Wangoo Mamang Sabal under Sugnu police station. The slain militants are identified as Heikrujam Indrajit alias Jackson and Salam Esheihanba. A 9-mm Czech pistol, one 7.62-mm M-20 pistol with some live ammunition, fire cases, three bicycles and one two wheeler vehicle are recovered from the encounter site. One security force personnel was injured in the encounter. Two persons, Th. Dhiren Chandra and O. Inaomacha, were also arrested by the troops.

    A suspected KYKL cadre is shot dead by a combined force of 32 Assam Rifles and 23 Assam Rifles during an encounter at New Keithelmanbi along the National Highway-53 under Patsoi police station of Imphal West district. A pistol and four ammunition of 7.6- mm are recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

    A KYKL care, Chongtham Umakanta Singh alias Munaton alias Nanao, is arrested by the Imphal West district police commandos during a search operation at Naoremthong bazaar. He confessed during interrogation that he joined the outfit in November 2006 through one ‘ss captain’ Engba of the KYKL and he was asked to extort money from the general public for the outfit’s funds.

    A KYKL cadre is shot dead by the Assam Rifles personnel during an encounter in the general area of Moidangpok under Patsoi police station in the Imphal West district. While another cadre of the outfit managed to escape from the encounter site, a 7.62-mm pistol, four live rounds of 7.62-mm ammunition and one FCC were recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

  • November 4: Two women cadres of KYKL, identified as Laishram Binasakhi alias Angangcha and Konjengbam Tombi, are arrested from a house at Kwakeithel Nganapi Thong. According to police sources, Binasakhi was operating in the ‘finance section’ under one Great Macha of the outfit and they were asked to serve demand letters to government departments and general public for the outfit’s funds. One letter head of the KYKL signed by Apabi Mangang, ‘s/s deputy secretary of the publicity and research’ of the outfit, was recovered from their possession.

  • October 30: A KYKL cadre, Longjam Anand Singh alias Anand, was arrested by the Army personnel during a search operation in the general area of Takyel under Nambol police station in the Bishnupur district. He confessed that he is the ‘finance secretary’ of the outfit.

  • October 23: A KYKL cadre, Ch. Malemngamba, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation in the general area of Pallel market under Kakching police station in the Thoubal district. While other militants manage to escape, a revolver with one live round is recovered from Malemngamba's possession. He has undergone training in Myanmar in 2001.

  • October 7: Assam Rifles personnel arrest two militants, including one KYKL cadre, Semang Haokip, who has infiltrated from the Myanmar’s side. Semang belongs to the Kuki tribe in Myanmar. He is accused of passing information of security forces’ movement and operating as ‘guide’ for militants. One radio set I-com is also recovered from his possession.

  • October 7: A KYKL cadre, Sagolsem Manao, is arrested during a search operation at Samaram area in the Thoubal district.

  • October 4: The dead body of Wangba Khamancha, a leader of the Manipur-based KYKL, is recovered from Jitwala Jod along Gurgaon-Delhi border near Mundela village under Jafarpur Kalan police station in Gurgaon. Khamancha is the chief of the outfit’s ‘operation new kangleipak’ and is suspected to have been killed by the cadres his outfit.

  • September 29: Manipur Government says that ten cadres of KCP, KYKL and PREPAK, and two sympathisers of the KRA are booked under National Security Act (NSA), 1980 by separate orders of the Manipur home department issued on different dates.

  • September 28: A KYKL cadre, Nongmaithem Kullachandra Singh, is arrested by the Imphal East district police commandos from Lamshang bazaar.

  • September 27: The Thoubal district police commandos arrest two KYKL cadres, Naorem Dronjit Singh and Oinam Khubi Singh alias Chingkheinganba, from Yairipok Top Chingtha.

  • September 21: A suspected KYKL cadre, Ningthoujam Samarjit Singh, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel at Nongren under Lamlai police station in the Imphal East district.

  • September 17: One KYKL cadre, Naorem Sanaton Singh alias Johnson, is arrested by Thoubal police commandos from Kakching Phoushupat.

  • September 15: One KYKL cadre, Huidrom Ibungo alias Nanao, is arrested by Thoubal police commandos from kakching Tejpur village.

  • September 11: The combined security forces of Imphal West district police commandos and 12 Maratha Light Infantry also arrest one KYKL militant, identified as Ninghtoujam Herojit Singh.

  • September 5: One KYKL cadre, Ammu, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Moreh Gate No. 2 in the Chandel district.

  • August 28: Around hundreds of commercial establishments, including chemist shops, located on both sides of the Tiddim road along the National Highway -150 from Keishampat to Kwakeithel remain closed due to the unbearable monetary demands served on them by the KYKL cadres. The outfit has asked for amounts ranging from INR 10,000 to 30,000 according to the size and business at the shops, said an unnamed woman shopkeeper.

  • August 20: A team of Imphal East district police commandos and Assam Rifles personnel arrests one KYKL cadre, Athokpam Anandkumar Singh alias Thembung alias Jackson, from Top Khongnang Makhong.

  • August 18: One KYKL militant, Urikhinbam Jateshwor alias Inaocha Singh, is arrested during a joint search operation by the Imphal West district police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel at Hiyangthang bazaar.

  • August 17: Three KYKL militants, including a female cadre, are arrested by the Imphal West district police from North AOC bus stand. They are identified as Wairakpam Nitish Singh alias Ibungo alias Yoiheiba Luwang, Oinam Chanchan Devi alias Mona and Laishram Bina Devi alias Diana.

  • August 13: The Thoubal district police commandos arrest one woman sympathiser of the KYKL, identified as Mayanglambam O. Ranjita, during a search operation at Kakching Makha Leikai.

  • August 10: One KYKL cadre, Sapam Paona Meitei alias Inaoba, is arrested by a team of Thoubal district police from his residence at Khongjom Chingmang Leikai area.

  • August 8: One KYKL cadre, Meisnam Yaiphaba Meitei alias Bung alias Lucky, is arrested by the Imphal West district police commandos from his residence at Thangmeiband.

  • August 7: Two CRPF personnel are killed and another is wounded in an ambush by suspected KYKL militants at Kotlien village on the side of the Imphal-Jiribam section of the National Highway -53. Militants decamp with two weapons, one LMG rifle with 30 live rounds and an Insas rifle with 20 live rounds.

  • July 20: The Imphal West district police killed a suspected KYKL militant in Khuman Lampak. While another militant manages to escape, an Indian hand grenade is recovered from the slain militant's possession.

  • July 16: Assam Rifles personnel arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Salam Basanta Singh, during a search operation at Khurai.

  • July 11: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs proscribes five valley based outfits with its factions and frontal organizations under the sub-section 1, section 3 of the Unlalwful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967). The groups are the PLA, and its political wing, the RPF, UNLF, PREPAK and its armed wing 'Red Army', KCP and its armed wing, also called as 'Red Army', KYKL and MPLF.

  • July 7: One KYKL cadre, Kangujam Somendro alias Tony, is arrested from Lamlong in the Imphal East district.

  • July 6: The KYKL and UNLF said that they will target all the villagers of Heirok unless the public relent and retreat from the decision to accept arms under the special police officers (SPOs) scheme.

  • July 1: Three suspected KYKL militants while attempting to set ablaze a hijacked school bus are killed by Imphal East district police commandos during an encounter at Langol Games Village zone-III under Lamphel police station. One 9-mm pistol with eight live rounds of ammunition is recovered from the possession of the slain militants.

  • July 1: More than 300 students of Heirok village, studying at various schools and colleges with boarding facilities in the state, returned due to the recent threats from the UNLF and KYKL to the people in Heirok in connection with the setting up of Special Police Officers.

  • June 29: The combined forces of Imphal East district police commandos and 32 Assam Rifles arrest four KYKL cadres at Khurai Lamlong bazaar. They are identified as Thoudam Premjit Singh alias Taton, Khongbantabam Balesore Singh alias Balo, Ayekpam Roswood Singh alias Rose and Wangkheimayum Ratan Singh alias Abung Singh.

  • June 28: One KYKL cadre, R.K. Marjit alias Tomba, is arrested Assam Rifles from Lamding area under Lamshang police station.

  • June 28: The combined team of Imphal East district police commandos and personnel of the 32 Assam Rifle arrest one KYKL cadre, Lairenjam Romen alias Ronendro alias Toimba, from his residence at Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai.

  • June 27: One KYKL cadre, Pukhrambam Manao Singh alias Lansenba alias Boy, is arrested by a team of Imphal West district police commandos from Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak.

  • June 24 : Militants belonging to the UNLF and KYKL captured two persons, N. Angou and Rabi, for their alleged involvement in lifting kerosene oil meant for distribution among the people of Ukhrul in connivance with some people close to Legislator Danny Shaiza. They are paraded at an unspecified place in the valley area.

  • June 19: Two deans and four heads of department of the Manipur University are given a demand note of INR 100,000 each from the Lanchanba group of the KCP-Military Council. They were earlier accused by the KYKL for indulging in irregularities in the selection of Ph.D research scholars of the university.

  • June 18 : One civilian, Soraisam Nillachandra, and one KYKL cadre, Chungkham Roshan alias Abungcha, are killed during a clash between the KYKL and Military Council faction of the KCP at Chingnungkhok village in the Imphal East district. The KCP-Military Council states that Nillachandra was killed by the KYKL for allegedly giving shelter to cadres of the KCP-Military Council.

  • June 15: A leader of a local merit paibi (women vigilante group), identified as Laishram Ibelei, who was abducted by suspected KYKL militants on June 13-night, is shot at and wounded by militants at Komlakhong village under Mayang Imphal police station. Police suspect the woman was shot at for violating some diktat of the militant group.

  • June 16 : One KYKL cadre, Okram Rabi alias Madhumangol alias Eka, is wounded, when his M-20 pistol is accidentally triggered at Thangjarok in the Bishnupur district. June 15: A leader of a local merit paibi (women vigilante group), identified as Laishram Ibelei, who was abducted by suspected KYKL militants on June 13-night, is shot at and wounded by militants at Komlakhong village under Mayang Imphal police station. Police suspect the woman was shot at for violating some diktat of the militant group.

  • June 13: 12 persons are captured and later paraded before media persons by UNLF and KYKL militants at an unspecified place in the Bishnupur district for allegedly selling kerosene oil at more than INR 14 per litre.

  • June 13: Militants of the KYKL and UNLF prohibit villagers at Heirok from going outside their locality for 'defying' their warning and deciding to join as volunteers of the Special Police Officers (SPOs). They identify five persons for their lead role in appointment of SPOs and procurement of arms, and declare to give 'capital punishment' to them.

  • June 11 : Nine persons are captured and later paraded by the UNLF and KYKL militants before the media at unspecified place in the Thoubal district for allegedly selling kerosene oil at high price.

  • June 9: One woman, Asem Benu, is wounded in a cross fire when an encounter between the PREPAK militants and troops of 7 Assam Rifles occur at Thanga Lawai under Moirang police station in the Bishnupur district. Assam Rifles personnel recover one vehicle, a magazine of AK-47 containing 37 live rounds of ammunition, 12 empty cartridges, three live bullets of M-16 Rifles, one spend cartridge, two empty cartridges of lethode lombs and a cell phone with SIM card from the incident site. One KYKL cadre, identified as Moirangthem Bhupen, is also arrested during a search operation in the area after the encounter.

  • June 8: The Operation New Kangleipak team of the KYKL parades six senior teachers of the Manipur University before a group of media persons in an unspecified location in the Thoubal district. The senior teachers reportedly take moral responsibility for the irregularities in selection of candidates for PhD research work for 2008.

  • June 7: Father of one kerosene oil agent, who is accused of selling oil at more than INR 14 per litre against the joint declaration of the UNLF and KYKL, is paraded by militants of both the groups in the Thoubal district. The spokespersons of the two outfits say that Mohammed Abdul Hei was selling 2500 litres of kerosene oil at the rate of INR 22 per litre.

  • June 7: Two KYKL cadres, Haorungbam Sunil Meitei and Cpl Nongmaithem Budhichandra, are arrested by Imphal West district police commandos from Chalou and Langthabal Lep Mayai Leikai.

  • June 2: Assam Rifles troops arrest Ningthougam Ibopishak Singh, 'publicity secretary' of the KYKL, at Kongkham Mayai Leikai in the Bishnupur district.

  • May 31: Three supporters of the KYKL are arrested by police personnel in the Thoubal district.

  • May 27: 12 persons are captured and later paraded before the media by a combined group of cadres of the KYKL and UNLF for their alleged involvement in the sale of kerosene oil in black market.

    Troops of the 34 Assam Rifles arrested two KYKL militants, Mujum Dinesh Singh and Maibam Dhamen Singh, at Wangkhem bazaar in the Thoubal district. One scooter, a mobile handset and INR 7500 are recovered from them.

  • May 19: An education department official, Y. Joykumar, is shot at and wounded by militants for his alleged involvement in corrupt practices. He was abducted from near his residence at Thongju area in the Imphal East district. The KYKL claimed responsibility for the attack.

  • April 30: One KYKL cadre, Ratan Kumar Naoba, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation at general area of Phungreitang in the Ukhrul district. One country made 9-mm pistol, one live round of 9-mm and three lives rounds of .22 are recovered from his possession.

  • April 29: The UNLF and the KYKL declare to check the hike in price of kerosene oil while exploring the reasons behind the price hike of the same in the local markets. A joint statement of the two outfits signed by 'deputy secretary organizations', UNLF, N Ibochou, and 'secretary publicity and research' of the KYKL, Langamba Mangang, said they planned to make available kerosene at the control rate of INR 14 per litre through the SK Oil agents. The outfits have also said that except the authorized agents, no one else could sell kerosene in the markets. Anybody found selling in 'black' will be severely dealt with without warning, it added. During an investigation into the increasing price of kerosene by the two outfits, the statement said, it was revealed that some of the quotas of the kerosene were taken by the militants. But it was also true that before the outfits took the same, the Chief Minister and other ministers and their close associates had been siphoning the same, they alleged.

  • April 23: The KYKL 'bans' thabal chongba (festivities) at Khongjom in the Thoubal district.

  • April 19: The leaders of the KCP, KYKL, PREPAK and UNLF, while celebrating the '28th foundation day' of the KCP, pledge to end all factional strifes.

  • April 14: Imphal East district police arrested one female cadre of the KYKL, identified as Amom Thaja alias Abe Devi, from the New Checkon area. The Superintendent of Police, Radheshyam Singh, said that Amom provided shelter to other KYKL militants and was also engaged in the transportation of arms and ammunition.

  • March 20: Police blame the KYKL for at least two of the attacks on migrant workers in Manipur since March 17. The Director General of Police (DGP) Yumnam Joykumar Singh said that two KYKL militants, involved in the incident at Heiyen Hangool in the Imphal West district, were shot dead in an encounter on March 19. The slain duo and a third member of the outfit killed seven settlers in that incident on March 17. Another militant of the same outfit was shot dead in an encounter with the police at Phaknung in the Imphal East district on March 20.

    Earlier, the police received information that seven of the Heiyen Hangool killers were in Imphal West. Simultaneous raids on suspected hideouts in Mayang Imphal, Charoibung and Upokpi around 9.40pm led to the encounter. The two militants shot dead were identified as Sarangthem Sanjoy alias Robert and Elangbam Dutta. The police recovered an AK-47 rifle with nine rounds of ammunition and a pistol from their possession. The DGP stated that Robert was a "corporal" in the KYKL ranks, but had never been arrested. An arrested KYKL cadre, Laishram Homen alias Korou, is suspected to be one of those who planned the selective killings. The DGP also said the police were on the trail of four more KYKL members who killed five migrants in Imphal East district the day after the Heiyen Hangool attack. The KYKL, however, denied its involvement in the killings.

  • March 11: The Army and the Manipur Police arrested four militants of the PULF, PLA and KYKL during separate raids in the Imphal West district.

  • March 11: One KYKL militant, identified as Khunajam Nawang Singh of Thokchom, is arrested from Ukhongsang in the Thoubal district.

  • March 3: Two KYKL cadres, Sougaijam Santosh alias Rishi and Laishram Sunil alias Amujao, are arrested by the Imphal East district police commandos during a search operation in front of the Central Reserve Police Force camp at Mantripukhri. While one magazine of M-20 pistol loaded with three live rounds of 9 mm and 6 nos. of AK-47 ammunition are recovered from Santosh, one magazine of .32 pistol loaded with two live rounds of .32 ammunition are recovered from the possession of Sunil. They confessed that they were operating under the command of one Sana Macha of the KYKL.

  • February 25: Three persons, identified as Arunjit Singh alias Naobi alias Nganba, Sarungbam Somorjit Singh and Khundongbam Surjit Singh, are paraded before the media and are later shot at and wounded by the KYKL militants at an unspecified place in the Imphal West district, for their alleged involvement in extortion of money from the people in the name of the outfit by using its forged letter heads.

  • February 22: One KYKL cadre, identified as Haobam Baba alias Ibungo Singh, is arrested by police personnel from Wabagai Bazar in the Thoubal district.

    One KYKL cadre, Heikrujam Sanjoy alias Ingomcha Singh, is arrested by Manipur Police during a search operation at Yairipok Laimanai in the Imphal West district. Sanjoy confesses that he joined the outfit through one Romio of KYKL and was at the time of arrest operating in the 'finance section' under one Tombi alias Boiler of KYKL.

  • February 18: Two KYKL militants, U. Surchandra and K. Inaocha, are arrested during a search operation at Gandhi Memorial in the Ukhrul district. One US made 9-mm pistol along with one magazine, five live rounds of 9-mm and 7 rounds of 5.56- mm INSAS are recovered from their possession.

  • January 31: The KYKL reiterates its 'diktat' of using Meetei Mayek language on signboards of shops, offices and institutions in the four valley districts- Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur and Thoubal.

  • January 29: One KYKL cadre, Laishram Senapati alias Freedom Singh, is arrested from BT Road near Sahid Minar gate in the Imphal West district. He confessed that he was working under two other KYKL cadres, Santa and Mohen,

  • January 21: One KYKL militant, Sandam Raju, is shot dead by Assam Rifles personnel during an encounter at Salem Veng in the Churachandpur district. While one 5.58 Italian pistol with two magazines and some ammunition along with one Nokia mobile phone are recovered from possession of the slain militant, another cadre managed to escape from the encounter site.

2007

  • December 27: One KYKL cadre, Mayangbam Premchand Meetei alias West, is arrested from Kongba Bazaar in the Imphal East district.

  • December 17: The Dimapur Police and Assam Rifles (31 Battalion) personnel, on receiving information about the presence of suspected KYKL cadres in the Naga Gaon area, launch a joint operation and arrest one Bijoy Singh alias Joy Kumar, a resident of Kakching in Manipur. 2,500 pages of KYKL letter pads, two bundles of fuse wire, two personal diaries containing details of tax collection, one computer C.P.U, one empty ammunition box measuring 7.62m, two containers of motor cap measuring 2 inch, three telephone sets, one empty case of fuse (V.429), one computer antenna, 10 numbers of CDs and one card reader are recovered from his possession.

  • December 12: Two suspected KYKL militants, Takhellambam Gyaneshwar alias Jutin and Laishram Surchandra alias Loya, are shot dead by Assam Rifles personnel during an encounter at Yelang Khangpokpi under Waikhong police station in the Thoubal district. Two Chinese pistols, 44 live rounds, two mobile phone handsets along with an extra SIM card, a Yamaha motorcycle and INR 16,640 were recovered from their possession.

    Assam Tribune reports that the KYKL has 'banned' celebration of the Thabal Chongba festival in other parts of the country by students from Manipur. Thabal Chongba is a traditional moonlight dance of the Meiteis during the Yaoshang / holi (colour) festival. The 'ban' is declared by the outfit in reaction to the festival organized by the Manipur Culture Development Association in Bengaluru (also known as Bangalore), capital of Karnataka, as part of their culture and sports meet at a football ground there on November 10.

  • December 10: Three KYKL militants, including a self-styled ‘lieutenant’ Hamom Phulendro alias Great alias Sunil, were shot dead by Manipur Police during an encounter at a hotel in the Imphal West district. One AK-47 rifle with one magazine containing 22 live rounds, one 9-mm pistol with three live rounds and one .36 hand grenade were recovered from the encounter site. Sunil is suspected to have been involved in various ambushes on the security forces, including the February 24-ambush at Khoirok Lamkang near Laimaton, in which 16 security force personnel were killed and seven others injured.

  • November 30: Assam Tribune reports that the KYKL has 'banned' the use of Bengali script textbooks in classes at the junior primary stage (classes I to IV) in the valley districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur from the next academic session in 2008. The outfit's 'commander', Major Wangba Khumancha, stated that the measure is being taken in view of negligence in, and extremely uneven implementation of, the introduction of 'Meetei Mayek' in classes I to III to which the Manipur government had committed itself.

  • November 28: One KYKL militant, Koijam Devan alias Nanda, is arrested from Wangkhei Thambalkhong area in the Imphal East district.

  • November 27: Two suspected KYKL militants are killed by the Assam Rifles personnel during an encounter at Pihang village under Chasad police station in the Ukhrul district. One 9-mm carbine with magazine loaded with five bullets and one Chinese hand grenade are recovered from them. One police personnel, Gidion, sustains injuries in the explosion of an improvised explosive device planted by the militants in the incident site.

  • November 20: The ‘chief advisor’ of the KYKL, identified as Changamayum Manoranjan Khuman, who was arrested on November 19, is paraded before the media in the Imphal West district. According to his confession, he was the chief security advisor of an unnamed former Nagaland Chief Minister before joining the outfit. Arms are also seized from his possession. Police say Khuman was asked by the outfit to investigate the alleged fake appointment of teachers in the Education Department.

  • November 19: Two KYKL cadres, Shougai-jam Gopimohan Singh alias Gopi and Thiyam Imocha alias Nandakumar, are arrested from the JN Hospital area in the Imphal East district. They confessed that they joined the outfit though one KYKL militant, P.C. Chaoba, in 2007.

  • November 7: The KYKL has 'banned' books written in the Bengali script in all Government and private schools from Class I to IV located in the four valley districts with effect from the next academic session of 2008. A KYKL militant, identified as Wangba Khumancha, said that only books in Meitei Mayek should be taught in these classes.

  • One KYKL cadre, L. Joychandra, is arrested by Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation at Yourbung under Lamlai police station in the Imphal East district.

  • November 3: Two suspected KYKL militants are killed by Assam Rifles personnel during an encounter at Patbung area under Phungyar police station in the Imphal East district. A carbine with magazine, one 9-mm pistol with magazine, three live rounds of 9-mm calibre and a combat pouch are recovered from their possession.

  • November 2: One KYKL cadre, Lei-shangthem Shyamsunder alias Ito alias Inaocha, is shot dead by police personnel during a counter-insurgency operation at Nongmeibung Nambam Chuthek under Porompat police station in the Imphal East district. One Chinese made hand grenade is recovered from his possession. One of the accomplices of the slain militant, Meinam Ranjan alias Inao, is also arrested from the incident side.

  • October 30: Three Assam Rifles (AR) personnel, including a Major, are killed while seven others are wounded in an ambush by KYKL militants at Sorbung village under Phungyar sub-division in the Ukhrul district.   • October 14: The KYKL keeps in confinement Mohammed Zjauddin Khan, the senior treasury office accountant of Senapati district, for allegedly siphoning government funds by manipulating teachers' pension books and pension arrears of three teachers. The KYKL also states during a press conference that it unearthed 210 more teachers with fake appointment documents, increasing the total of number such fake appointments made by the Manipur Education department it exposed to 1153.

  • October 6: Eight KYKL militants, who were arrested from the official quarters of a ruling Congress Legislator at Babupara in capital Imphal on August 17, are detained under the National Security Act, 1980. "The Governor of Manipur after having carefully considered grounds for detention furnished by the district magistrate is of the opinion that the grounds are sufficient for the detention of the said persons under section 3(2) of the said act (NSA) and that order of detention aforesaid made by the district magistrate under section 3 (3) of the said act be approved," separate orders of the state home department regarding the detention of the eight states.

  • September 28: An unnamed official of the State Education department is shot at and wounded by the KYKL militants at an unspecified place in the Bishnupur district. He was attacked for his alleged involvement in fake appointment of teachers and corruption. The outfit had also asked the official to take voluntary retirement and return the misappropriated amount.

  • September 27: Two KYKL militants, Nanao Singh a.k.a. Premjit and Umakant a.k.a. Manaoton, were arrested during a search operation in the Iroishemba area under Lamshang police station of Imphal West district.

  • September 24: One KYKL militant, Moirangthem Ibochouba alias Chaktaba alias Ibungo, is arrested by security force personnel during a search operation at Waheng Khuman Maning Leikai in the Bishnupur district.

  • September 16: Three KYKL cadres, Leibakhao, Sanamba Leipokpam and Ayekpam Tomba, are arrested from Pukhao Khambam area. One 9-mm pistol and four live rounds of cartridges are recovered from their possession.

  • September 15: Two militants are arrested during a search operation at a VIP area at Babupara in capital Imphal. They are identified as Md. Zanur Khan of the NSCN-IM, and Salam Punshi Singh of the KYKL.

  • September 14: An officer of the State Education Department, T. Geetchandra Sharma, is shot at and wounded by KYKL militants for his alleged involvement in covering up fake appointment of teachers and taking bribes. Another official of the same department, T. Samananda Singh, is also 'accused' by the militants for his involvement in the scandal. Sharma and Singh are charged with taking bribes totaling INR 15 lakhs and INR 20 lakhs respectively.

  • August 30: One unidentified KYKL cadre is arrested from an unspecified place near Signu in the Chandel district. One cell phone was recovered from him.

  • August 30: Three civilians, Laimayum Thoi Sharma, Shijagurumayum Gunachandra Sharma and Shangakpham Debarta Sharma, abducted by suspected KYKL militants, are rescued by SFs at Nambol in the Bishnupur district. SF personnel also arrest three abductors, Oinam Prakash, Yumnam Ronel Singh and Yumkhaibam Joykumar Singh alias Ibomcha, from the incident site.

  • August 28: Unidentified KYKL cadres shot at and injured a civilian, Phurailatpam Nandakumar, joint secretary of the Board of Secondary Education, who is currently under suspension in several irregularities, at Mayang Imphal Konchak in the Imphal West district. Nandakumar was abducted by unidentified persons two days back.

  • August 19: A youth claiming to be a KYKL militant, Mute Ramkumar, while attempting to snatch a motorcycle at gunpoint, is assaulted by local youths at Khongnang Ani Karak. A pistol and two live rounds are recovered from his possession.

  • August 17: Twelve militants, including eight KYKL cadres, are arrested by Manipur Police from the official residences of three Members of Legislative Assembly and a former legislator of the ruling Congress Party in the Babupara VIP Colony of capital Imphal.

  • August 11: Assam Rifles personnel shot dead three unidentified militants belonging to the KYKL and PULF at Tingri under Sekmai police station in the Thoubal district. Two 9-mm pistols along with four rounds of ammunition and one 7.56 mm Italian-make pistol along with seven live rounds, one Chinese-make grenade and three extortion notes duly signed by the finance department of KYKL were recovered from the incident site.

  • August 10: The KYKL has announced some changes in the command structure of its 'Special Task Force (STF)' indulged in 'Operation New Kangleipak'. According to a release, 'Captain' Thoiba Mangang is replaced by 'Maj' Wangba Khumancha, as 'officiating commander', of the 'STF', while '2nd Lt' Moramba Khuman will be the 'deputy commander'.

  • August 9: Three militants belonging to UNLF, KYKL and PULF, surrendered to the Manipur Police in a surrender ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. One AK rifle with seven live rounds, loaded modified magazine, two Chinese-made 9 mm pistols with 27 live rounds were deposited by the militants.

  • July 23: SFs arrested a KYKL cadre, identified as Yengkhom Samananda alias Manda Meitei, who is reportedly involved in many extortion cases, at Khurai Chairenthong area in the Imphal East district.

  • June 20: A heavy exchange of fire took place between AR personnel and the KYKL cadres at Tonglang area. During subsequent search operations, AR personnel recovered one M 16 Rifle with one magazine, carbine machine with one round, two hand grenades, two UBGL grenades, two 5.56 ammunition and three live rounds of 9-mm from the incident site.

  • May 29: Assam Rifles personnel arrested a KYKL cadre, identified as Chirom Naba, at Khu man Mamang Leikai.

    Assam Rifles personnel also arrested another KYKL cadre, identified as Amuba alias Amuchou ba, along with four live rounds of 9-mm at Serou Mamang Leikai in the Thoubal district.

    The shopkeepers at the Paona International Market downed their shutters since they have been severely affected by an unspecified militant group’s extortion demands. Meanwhile, sources said among the five insurance companies, the Life Insurance Corporation is closed last weekend over a reported demand of INR 10 crores. Sources added that the extortion amount served as ‘annual tax’ to the proscribed KYKL outfit.

  • May 28: Suspected KYKL militants killed a civilian, identified as Sanasam Jugeshwar Singh, and injured two others, identified as Aribam Khomdon and John Kabui, allegedly for violating an earlier warning to leave the land they are holding, at Langol Laimanai in the Imphal West district. They also reportedly assaulted three women.

  • May 18: Troops arrested two KYKL cadres, identified as ‘Lt.’ Sanatomba Singh alias Sana and ‘Pvt.’ Gunamani, at Khambathel Road in the Chandel district.

  • May 16: SFs arrested a KYKL cadre, identified as Meitram Nilakamal Singh alias Toi alias Prem alias Nanao alias Bothoi, at Nagamapal Chungkham Leikai in the Bishnupur district. He is reportedly involved in the ambush of 10 Assam Rifles personnel in 2005 at Kumbi, resulting in the death of a Captain and five other SF personnel.

  • May 14: Troops of Assam Rifles arrested two KYKL cadres, identified as Laishram Manichandra and Laishram Rakesh Singh, and also recovered one motorcycle at Wangjing in the Thoubal district.

  • May 13: Police arrested two KYKL cadres, Longjam Rajen and Longjam Shamu, in the Thoubal district. They recovered 20 live rounds of AK 47 rifle and INR 260 from Rajen and 13 live rounds of AK 47 rifle and INR 241 from Shamu.

  • April 30: Three among the four KYKL cadres, identified as Leishangthem Ngouba alias Cyprus, Loushangbam Bungba Mangang alias Binikanta and Irengbam Ibomcha alias Binodkumar, who were involved in burning down cement carrying trucks on April 23 at Sekmai Bazaar in the Imphal West district and near N.G. Mani College in the Imphal East district, are arrested by the SFs at Sagolband Road in the Imphal West district. Meanwhile, SFs recovered one 9-mm pistol along with four live rounds of ammunition from the residence of Ngouba and one 9-mm pistol and four live rounds of ammunition from the residence of Irengbam Ibomcha.

    During a search operation, police personnel arrested one KYKL cadre, identified as Leishangthem Mani alias Suresh, and recovered a 9-mm pistol and one magazine loaded with nine live rounds of ammunitions at Shantipur village in the Imphal East district. Police also arrested a woman, identified as Pukhrambam ongbi Bidhu Devi, who allegedly supplied the 9-mm pistol to Leishangthem Mani on April 17, 2007, for extortion of money from the general public and he had collected INR 200,000 from the Wangoo and Moirang area.

  • April 18: SFs arrested three KYKL cadres, Oinam Ibomcha of Taothong Apheiba, Thokchom Tenden and Thokchom Inaocha of Lambal Makha Leikai, from their respective homes on the charges of extortion.

  • April 17: Security force personnel arrested a KYKL cadre, identified as Chingtham Boynao alias Khomba Singh, at Taothong Ma-mang Leikai in the Imphal West district.

    A self-styled 'sergeant major' of the KYKL, identified as Konjengbam Herojit, is shot dead by the SFs in the Thoubal area of Bishnupur district. Three other militants, however, managed to escape from the encounter site. The slain militant was reportedly involved in the February 24-ambush in which 16 SF were killed.

  • February 1: The NSCN-K said that the outfit’s ‘makeshift’ camp at Saijang in the Kohima district was attacked by a combined force of the NSCN-IM, "PREPAK, KYKL, KRA, UPDS and DHD (Anti-talk party)" numbering about 150 cadres. During the encounter, five militants of the NSCN-IM were shot dead while two NSCN-K militants was killed and one weapon was lost, said Anie Konyak, ‘Under Secretary’ of the NSCN-K.
  • January 29: Three KYKL militants, identified as Khundrakpam Somorjit Singh alias Ibohal alias Shana Macha, Laiphrakpam Subash Chandra and Kongbrailatpam Giridhari Sharma, were arrested by SFs during a search operation at Kakwa bazaar in the Imphal West district. A jeep, a mobile phone and an Industrial Credit & Investment Corporation of India (ICICI) bank Automatic Teller Machine card were recovered from the arrested militants.

  • January 24: A civilian, Moirangthem Star alias Boycha, a suspected drug peddler, was shot at and wounded by the KYKL at an unspecified place in the Imphal East district.

  • February 27: The KYKL imposes certain restrictions in connection with the Class XII and HSLC examinations commencing on March 1 and 2 respectively. The outfit bans the use of unfair means in these examinations, and asks all concerned officials to perform their duties effectively and responsibly. It also promises appropriate action against anyone interfering with examination officials in the proper performance of their duty. In a statement, the KYKL also asks all sections not to call any form of general strikes, or blockades in the period from March 1 till April 1, when the examinations will conclude.

Manipur Unit President of the party and the former Union Minister for Sports, Chaoba Singh, resigns from the party post, subsequent to f the outfit’s threat to target its leaders, workers and candidates campaigning for local body elections to be held on January 17.

  • January 8: The proscribed KYKL prohibits the participation of any BJP candidate in the forthcoming civic bodies’ elections. The outfit’s ‘deputy secretary, publicity and research’ says that no electioneering activity by the BJP candidates will henceforth be allowed.

2005

  • December 29: Four children are injured in a KYKL triggered Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Ngariyan community hall on the Old Cachar road connecting the Bishnupur and Tamenglong districts.

  • December 23: Deputy Inspector in the Education Department of Imphal East district, Sanasam Biren Singh, is paraded and shot at his left calf as ‘punishment for alleged corruption’ by the KYKL under its anti-corruption programme Operation New Kangleipak.

  • December 20: Two KYKL cadres, Laishram Basanta Singh and Urikhaibam Manglen Singh, are arrested from Keirak under Kakching police station in the Thoubal district.

  • December 11: A former KYKL cadre, Laiphrakpam Dilip Singh, is killed by unidentified militants at Leishoi Leikai under Moirang police station in the Bishnupur district.

  • December 9: Four cadres of the KYKL, identified as Lukram Romen Singh, Konthoujam Kuber Singh, Huidrom Setha Meitei and Maibam Khumai Meitei, are arrested from the Shikhong area in the Thoubal district.

  • November 30: A KYKL cadre, Sharungbam Surjeet Singh, is arrested along with a UNLF cadre, Sanabam Apik Singh, from Yambem village in the Thoubal district.

  • November 10: KYKL claims responsibility for the November 8 bomb explosion in the Imphal city and says that a particular shop has been targeted as it has refused the outfit’s demand of ‘tax’. Another youth, Chongtham Ibomcha, injured in the explosion, succumbs to his injuries, increasing the number of dead to two.

  • November 3: Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) extends the ban on four militant outfits, including the KYKL operating in Manipur, for two years. Addressing press persons after the CCS meeting chaired by Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee says that the Union Government has decided to extend the ban on UNLF, PLA, KCP and KYKL. He also informs that the ban is extended as the outfits still continue to indulge in unlawful activities in India’s North East.

  • November 2: KYKL has imposed a ban on Melas (local fairs) saying, "these Melas have become a bed rock of immorality, obscenity and drug abuse." The outfit’s ‘Deputy Secretary Publicity & Research’, Apabi Mangang, claims that Melas "help in a big way in the larger strategy of the Government of India to corrupt the people of the State morally, economically and politically."

  • October 29: Two KYKL cadres, Salam Joychandra alias Abong and Oinam Naocha, are arrested from Chandapur Meitei Leikai under Kumbi police station in the Bishnupur district.

  • October 16: Three youths are shot on their calves by suspected KYKL cadres for their alleged ‘addiction to Spasmo Proxyvon’, at Turen Wangma under Kakching police station in the Thoubal district.

  • October 2: A KYKL cadre, Ningombam Ibomcha Singh, is arrested from Pangal Tabi. Two rounds of AK ammunition and a demand letter of the outfit are recovered from his possession.

  • October 1: The KYKL imposes a ban on the activities of the KCP-P. The outfit says that KCP-P cadres will be "awarded capital punishment if they continue with their activities".

  • September 29: Two KYKL cadres, Wahengbam Manglem alias Rajen and Phairenbam Chandrakumar Singh alias Kumar, are arrested from the Moirang Lamphai area in the Churachandpur district.

  • September 1: The headmaster and an assistant teacher of Abdul Ali High Madrassa (seminary), Mohammed Sikander Ali and Mohammed Abdul Halim, are assaulted and paraded before the media by KYKL cadres for allegedly mis-utilising the funds of the school, tampering with their service books to extend their service, and selling off the rice meant for mid-day meal scheme. Ali has been asked to return the salary he earns after his retirement date.

  • August 11: A KYKL cadre, Waikhom Inao Meitei alias Rupachandra, is arrested from the Tera Bazaar area of Imphal West district.

  • August 10: Four civilians are killed and two others wounded in crossfire between SFs and KYKL cadres at Umathel under Waikhong police station in the Thoubal district. While the militants have managed to escape, three magazines of AK 47 rifles with 70 to 80 fired cases along with fired cases of lathode bombs and RPG rockets are seized from the incident site.

  • August 3: A KYKL cadre, Laiphrakpam Dillip, allegedly involved in extortion activities, is arrested from Moirang Bazaar area in the Bishnupur district.

  • August 2: A KYKL cadre, Khwairakpam Inao Singh alias Ramakanta, is arrested from his residence at Lamshang Mayai Leikai locality in the Imphal West district.

  • July 7: A KYKL cadre, Chirom Hemanta alias Erei, of Waikhong Bazaar, is arrested from Tumukhong in the Imphal East district.

  • July 3: A civilian, earlier abducted by the KYKL for ransom, is rescued from Pandon area in the Imphal West district.

  • June 27: A senior accountant and an official of the Manipur education department are kneecapped by the KYKL at an unspecified place. Both the persons have earlier been ‘charged of’ siphoning Rupees 20 lakhs each from the departmental funds and are ‘set free’ by the outfit after shooting them on their legs.

    A KYKL cadre, Salam Punshiba Meetei alias Punshi, is arrested from Khabeisoi in the Imphal East district.

  • June 21: KYKL has ‘banned’ civilians from attending or taking part in civic action programmes taken up by the paramilitary forces and Indian Army. The outfit threatens to execute people who attend such programmes.

  • June 18: Two KYKL cadres, Ningthoujam Ojit and Leitanthem Ibomcha, are arrested from Tera Sapam Leirak and Langthabal Phuramakhong areas of the Imphal West district.

  • June 18: A KYKL cadre, MSanta alias Ibungo alias Jet, is arrested from Kiyam Siphai Babu Bazaar area in the Imphal city.

  • June 9: A KYKL cadre, Loktongbam Bedanta, is arrested at Sagolband in the Thoubal district. One 9 mm Norinco pistol along with magazine containing six rounds and Rs 15000 are recovered from his possession.

  • May 24: A suspected KYKL cadre, Thiyam Chaoba, is killed at Kasom Khullen in the Ukhrul district. A Chinese pistol with magazine, five rounds of ammunition and incriminating documents are recovered from the incident site.

  • May 24: A KYKL cadre, Thoudam Biramani, is arrested at Achanbigei Awang Leikai in the Imphal East district.

  • May 22: Two KYKL cadres are arrested from Sekmaijin in the Imphal West district.

  • May 19: Three Education Department officials are kneecapped by the outlawed KYKL cadres at an unspecified place in the Churachandpur district accusing them of corruption of Manipur. According to reports, the three officials who had surrendered to the outfit earlier were paraded before a media team and then shot in their legs. Further, 49 teachers, allegedly appointed through corrupt means, were also paraded by the outfit and asked not to serve in the Education Department in future.

  • May 18: Four militants, including a KYKL cadre, are arrested from Chingjao area in the Thoubal district. One carbine machine gun manufactured in Myanmar is recovered from their possession.

  • May 17: A KYKL cadre, Naorem Sandeep Singh, is arrested from the Keishampat Churachandpur parking area in the Imphal West district.

  • May 15: Three KYKL cadres are arrested from Ngangkhalawai in the Bishnupur district and another is arrested from Pungdongbam village in the Imphal East district.

  • May 6: A KYKL cadre is killed during an encounter with the police at Dharamsala in the Imphal West district. Two extortion notes are recovered from his possession.

  • April 27: Three KYKL cadres, including the outfit’s 'deputy finance secretary', are arrested subsequent to a search operation at Phungreitang in the Ukhrul district. A communication device, 22 rounds of AK ammunition, fuse wire, mobile phone, currency notes worth Rupees 1,27,586 and incriminating documents are recovered from them.

  • April 26: KYKL says, "We have awarded capital punishment to the five youths for their crimes against the revolutionary movement as well as the mothers of Manipuri youths, since they were responsible for drug abuse by a large number of youths of the state."

  • April 25: KYKL announces its ‘new tax policy’ under which the outfit will stop serving ‘donation letters for huge amounts’ and will collect extensive tax from the people. The outfit, however, says that ‘money in bulk’ will continue to be collected from the corrupt officials, outsiders and from those who earn their money through dubious means. It adds that the policy will remain valid till April 2006.

  • April 24: KYKL says said that all drug sellers will be killed without any warning while all drug abusers will be punished with a bullet on the leg.

  • April 22: KYKL claims to have killed five persons at Kshetrigaon for their involvement in drug trade.

  • April 15: A KYKL militant is arrested subsequent to a search operation at Thoubal Okram in the Thoubal district.

  • April 15: The proscribed KYKL asks Phanjoubam Tarapot, Imphal correspondent for the Press Trust of India, to issue a public apology by April 17 for what the outfit terms as misreporting of its stand on the ongoing agitation for the introduction of the indigenous Meitei Mayek script in the State replacing the Bengali script. The outfit says that failure to do so will invite 'stern punishment'.

  • April 13: A KYKL cadre, Laishram Chand alias Tompok of Ngangkha Lawai Awang Leikai, is arrested from the Bishnupur district.

  • March 30: A KYKL cadre is arrested subsequent to an exchange of fire at Keibul Lamjao area in the Imphal East district.

  • March 24: Two KYKL cadres, identified as Irom Oken alias Meghajit and RK Naocha alias Sushilkumar alias Rocky, are arrested respectively from Moirang Khunou in the Bishnupur district and from Khurai Chingangbam Leikai area in the Imphal East district.

  • March 8: 16 transport agency proprietors are arrested by the Imphal West district police for having not paid a sum of Rs 95 lakhs to the department with KYKL’s help.

  • March 8: The outfit has asked six teachers, including the Principal of Thambal Marik College at Oinam in Senapati district, to resign from their respective posts within 20 days on charges of ‘encouraging the students to use unfair means’ in the ongoing class XII examination.

  • March 3: Two KYKL cadres are arrested from Nambol Balram Khul in Bishnupur district. Separately, a youth is shot in his leg by unidentified militants for drinking alcohol at Haipi under Kangpokpi police station in the Imphal West district.

  • March 2: The KYKL shot at and injured the owner of a restaurant for violating its diktat of shutting down all cabin restaurants.

  • March 2: KYKL imposes a ‘curfew’ within 300 meters of all examination centers for the Class XII examination scheduled to start from March 3. The outfit warns to fire upon anybody violating the orders.

  • February 28: KYKL imposes a ‘ban’ on the functioning of cabin restaurants in the State with effect from March 1 and has asked people to stop visiting such places. A statement issued by the outfit says that such restaurants are a "major factor in the moral degeneration of our society".

  • February 27: KYKL has paraded two zonal education officers, Athokpam Shamu and Moirangthem Sanatombi Singh, before the media and pronounced them ‘guilty of corruption’. Both are asked by the outfit to resign from their posts.

  • February 26: The KYKL ‘Deputy Secretary’, Apabi Mangang, warns contractors engaged in construction work of the Education Department to maintain quality and not to make profits.

  • February 24: Six militant camps, including one of the KYKL, are neutralized at Keibul Lamjao in the Bishnupur district. A huge cache of arms and explosives including one M-16 rifle, one carbine, two pistols, 18 lethode bombs, one RPG, six hand grenades and a large assortment of ammunition, are recovered.

  • February 17: Five SF personnel are killed and two others wounded in an attack by the KYKL at Kumbi in the Bishnupur district.

  • December 28: KYKL has reportedly taken hostage a retired school principal and a school cashier for ‘misappropriation of school funds amounting to Rs. 2 lakhs’.

  • December 17: N Bijoy Singh and R K Ranjan, Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of the Manipur University, are released by the KYKL after being shot in their legs. According to a KYKL statement, both are ‘punished’ for flouting rules in the appointment of the Director of the Audio Visual Research Centre in Manipur University.

  • December 13: KYKL abducts the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, Dr N Bijoy Singh, and Registrar, Dr RK Ranjan Singh, from the campus.

  • December 13: Two KYKL terrorists, Thongbam Shantikumar and Kwairakpam Rabin Singh, are arrested from the Thanga and Ithing areas of Bishnupur district.

  • December 7: Four KYKL terrorists are arrested from unspecified places in the Imphal West district.

  • November 2: KYKL denies involvement in looting of an Oil Pump depot in Manipur, where some six armed-men looted Rupees 30,000 in cash and other valuables on an unspecified date.

  • October 25: Imphal West police arrests a KYKL cadre from the Lamshang police station area.

  • September 1: Border Security Force personnel arrest a KYKL terrorist, identified as Nongthombam Deepak, from the Rengkai Road area in Imphal.
