Incidents and Statements involving PULF: 1998-2012

2012

October 23: SFs arrested one cadre of PULF-MI Khan identified as Muhammad Anish Khan from Kongba near Standard College Gate, said a Police release.

October 8: PULF faction led by Kazi Umar has been disbanded after its 16 activists including women surrendered to the State during a 'home-coming ceremony' held at Mantripukhri on September 26.

September 26: A total of 114 militants belonging to different outfits surrendered with arms before Chief Minister O Ibobi and other dignitaries at the headquarters of Inspector General, Assam Rifles (South) at Mantripukhri in Imphal East.

August 18: Two militant cadres, one each from the UNLF and the PULF-MA Laskar laid down their arms and ammunition. The two surrenderees have been identified as Boinao Simte alias Mangboi Simte (UNLF) and Hasan Alli (PULF MA Laskar). The arms and ammunitions handed over by the surrenderees included two .9mm pistol, two .9mm magazines and 4 live rounds and one miss fire round of .9mm ammunition.

August 7: Highly placed sources said that the UMHA has prepared a list of Muslim fundamentalist organisations of Assam and Manipur. Muslim fundamentalist organisations of Manipur included INF, IRF, UILA, UIRA and PULF.

August 5: AMWJU and the editors have taken strong exception to the way some Muslim underground organizations have threatened to gun down some of the editors, reporters and newspaper employees to protest against the refusal of newspapers to publish their press releases. A Mobi, 'president' of the AMWJS said that the emergency meeting discussed threadbare the threats posed by PM Akbar faction of PULF-PM Akbar group and another new underground organization which was so far unheard of.

July 13: SFs arrested one PULF cadre identified as Muhammad Alam Khan alias Sotu in Imphal East District. He disclosed that he joined PULF in the year 2010 though one Muhammad Akbar, who is now working under the command of Hasan and Babul and he was involved in extortion of money from Moreh Van Association, it said.

July 3: A PULF cadre identified as Muhammad Sadam (20) was arrested by SFs from Keirao Litan Makhong in Imphal East District on July 3. One small arm and three live rounds were recovered from his possession.

May 22: SFs arrested one PULF identified as Muhammad Rami Phundreinayum alias Rami Khan at Phaiyang Chingkhong in Ukhrul District.

April 30: 103 cadres belonging to several militant outfits operating in the State and its neighboring areas surrendered before the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh during a ceremony at Mantripukhri in Imphal West District along with their weapons. The militants who surrendered include 22 cadres of the UNLF, 20 of PULF, nine of KYKL, 14 of PREPAK, eight of KNLF, 10 of KCP, nine of PLA, four of UNPC, two of NSCN-IM, one each of NSCN-K, UPPK and KRPA and two KRF.

Rahul, a class seven student of Don Bosco, Chingmeirong who was allegedly abducted by a KCP on April 21 was released at Chandel District.

March 21: SFs arrested 'Imphal East District Commander' of PULF, identified as Mohammad Abash Khan alias Aba (27), from Kairang area in Imphal East District. The arrested militant was allegedly involved in extortion of money from the general public, Government officials, private firms, etc and transportation of arms from place to place.

March 15: The SFs also arrested a cadre of PULF-MI Khan, identified as Muhamad Yakub Ali alias Ibocha, at Konumla Hiyang Khong areas from Thoubal District.

March 13: SFs arrested a cadre of the PULF-Umar Quazi, identified as Muhammad Abdul Kalam, from Kamlakhong Makha Leikai in Bishnupur District. He was said to be involved in extortion and tax collection activities in Kamlakhong area.

March 9: Three persons were abducted by militants from different places in the State. One was abducted along with his car from from Moirangkhom Moreh van parking area in Imphal by suspected PULF cadres while suspected KNF abducted two other persons from Kangpokpi area in Senapati District.

February 25: SFs also arrested one cadre belonging to PULF-Azad identified as Muhammad Mujibur Rahaman alias Mujib at Nongpok Sekmai Bazar in Thoubal District.

February 22: A former cadre of PULF was shot dead by some unidentified persons near Khonglong village under Sapermeina Police station in Senapati District. Bullet-riddled body of Muhammad Amzad Khan (35) was discovered at a ravine near Khonglong village It is said that Azad once worked in PULF as well as in a Kuki militant outfit.

February 15: Six cadres belonging to three different outfits surrendered with arms at a ceremony held at 116th battalion in Ningthoukhong of Bishnupur District. The surrendered militants are 'lance corporal' Solendro alias Inaoton, Amarjit alias Mangaljao, Thangcha alias Lupheng, 'corporal' Tungdim Jangam alias Mangboi Zou, all belonging to UNLF, and L Naobi of PLA and Hamish, 'publicity secretary' of PULF. The cadres surrendered five pistols and one carbine along with assorted ammunition.

2011

November 24: SFs arrested a PULF cadre, identified as one Muhammad Itomcha, at Nungourok village in Thoubal District. One Sten Carbine with magazine, two live ammunitions of 9mm and one Blank Demand Draft letter of PULF was recovered from him.

November 3: SFs arrested one cadre of PULF-Azad, identified as Muhammad Nasimuddin (26), from Waithou of Thoubal District.

October 23: Three youths from Manipur, including a 'commander' of PULF militant outfit, were arrested in south Delhi for their alleged involvement in vehicle theft cases. Twelve motorcycles have been recovered from the gang. The accused, identified as Suraj Khan (26), Ayub Khan (36), and Rajib Saikh (22) were arrested from Munirka. "The three men used to dispose of the stolen motorcycles to the northeast through the railways using fake registration certificates and identity proof," said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of Police (south).

October 12: SFs arrested one cadre of the PULF-MI Khan, identified as Abdul Salam alias Chingkhei (29), from Phugakchao Mayai Leikai in Imphal West District. He revealed his involvement in recruitment, tax collection and extortion in Phugakchao area.

September 7: Altogether 29 militants, including 23 from five armed Naga groups, laid down their arms and surrendered to the Army authority at Leimakhong in Imphal West District. They also handed over 28 weapons including four Kalashnikov rifles, 16 pistols, one Lathode grenade launcher, 645 rounds of ammunition along with 21 magazines and two radio sets to the Army authority.

SFs arrested one militant belonging to PULF, identified as Mohammad Rajik Khan alias Ibonaha (28), from Kongba Bridge in Imphal East District. One .9mm pistol with live rounds was recovered from the militant.

October 4: SFs arrested one PULF-MI Khan cadre, identified as Amir Khan alias Amutti (42), from Phundrei of Thoubal District.

The surrendered militants includes seven cadres each of NSCN-Khole and FGN, six cadres of NSCN-Khaplang, three cadres of PULF, two cadres each of UNLF and NNC and one each of NSCN-Isak-Muivah and KYKL.

August 27: SFs arrested one Raj Khan faction of PULF identified as one Mohammad Manojkhan (17) from Yairipok bazaar in Imphal East District. One .9mm pistol and one demand letter were recovered from him.

August 9: Sixteen militants of different out fits laid down arms in a surrender ceremony at the Assam Rifles headquarter at Mantripukhri. The surrendered militants include three from the UNLF, two from PREPAK, four from PRA, two from UTLA, three from PULF and one each from Oken faction of KYKL and KCP-Noyon. They surrendered six AK Rifles, two M-16 Rifles, one each US made Carbine and Lathode, three 9 mm pistol, one each .32 mm pistol, .38 mm revolver and M-22 pistol and a large amount of ammunition.

July 21: Unidentified assailants opened fire on the hose of former PULF leader MI Khan, who has now joined electoral politics, in the Keirao Makting Makha Leikai area of Imphal East District.

July 17: SFs arrested Muhammad Anis alias Juma Khan of the PULF from Keirao area in Imphal East District.

July 16: A minor girl, identified as Memi (13), was abducted and freed after being held hostage for one night by alleged cadres of the PULF from Keirao Makting Mayai Leikai in Imphal East District. The abductors, claiming to be cadres of PULF, told Memi that she was abducted so that they could demand money from her elder brother Muhammad Saheed Ali, a contractor.

June 25: One PULF militant, identified as Muhammad Altaf, was arrested by Security Forces near Faith Hospital, Dimapur on June 25. On interrogation, the arrested accused revealed that he was a cadre of Manipur-based insurgent outfit PULF and currently operating in Dimapur.

May 7: SFs arrested one militant of the MI Khan faction of PULF, identified as Muhammad Amir Ahamed alias Phaja (21), from the northern side of Sekmaijin Bridge in Imphal West District. The arrestee disclosed that he joined the outfit in the year 2009 through a person identified as Bikram and working finance section. A nine .9mm pistol along with five live rounds were seized from his possession.

April 28: SFs arrested one PULF cadre, identified as Muhammad Riyajuddin alias Sathiba (35), from Golapati near Minuthong Bridge in Imphal East District. One 9mm Pistol loaded with two live rounds was recovered from his possession. On verification, he disclosed that he joined PULF organization in the month of February 2009 through one Raj Khan and he was involve in extortion of money from general public, Government officials, transportation of arms and ammunition from one place to another and provided shelter to PULF cadres.

April 15: The PULF in a statement has expressed strong resentment over the manner in which the selection of beneficiary for EDP scheme. A PULF statement released by outfit’s ‘Information & Publicity Secretary’ Muhammad Rauf Khan said Department for Welfare of MOBC which is supposed to take up welfare and development programmes for minority Muslim community is rather becoming a department for earning easy money. The PULF statement strongly alleged that the selection list of EDP beneficiary made out by the director MOBC recently had many irregularities.

April 8: SFs arrested one cadre of Umar Farooq faction of PULF, identified as Muhammad Rafizuddin (27), near YK College in Wangjimg area of Thoubal District. He confessed that he is an active member of PULF Umar Farooq faction and working in the finance section.

April 3: The private residence of former PULF militant turned politician MI Khan was attacked by lobbying a hand grenade at Keirao Makting Makha Leikai in Imphal East District.

April 2: An enraged mob killed a couple, identified as one Majibullah and Noorsana of Sora area in Thoubal District for their alleged involvement in the killing of a member of the Pallel Zilla Parishad (District level local self-Government body), Muhammad Shahabuddin (58). Shahabuddin was found shot dead near a canal of Sora Awang Leikai on March 31. Two .9 mm pistols were recovered from among the burnt remains of the house which is suspected to be used by the couple in the killing. Majibullah was a former CRPF Constable who reportedly fled from his post after stealing INR one million. He also worked in the finance section of a PULF faction till November 2010.

March 25: The ‘chairman’ of a faction of the PULF, MI Khan, announced his retirement from the ‘chairmanship’ of the outfit, after he was released from central Sajiwa Jail in Imphal East District following the revocation of NSA imposed against him. MI Khan also announced that he is competing in the forthcoming 10th Assembly elections in the Keirao Assembly constituency (Inner Manipur constituency). MI Khan disclosed that he decided to retire from the outfit following some personal problems, adding that the decision to enter into politics was owing to strong public pressure especially the Keirao Assembly constituency. "I apologize to the people for the mistake committed by my party and its cadres, I appeal the people to extend their cooperation and accept this step of becoming a social leader", said MI Khan. He revealed that he joined the outfit on October 1, 2004. MI Khan was last arrested by a combined team of Imphal East Police and Karnataka Police from Belgaum, Karnataka on May 23, 2010.

March 15: SFs killed a suspected militant of the PULF, who is yet to be identified, during an encounter at Taothong Lamkhai in Imphal West District. A .32 pistol along with an Activa Honda (MN01M-3882) were recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

March 5: Azad faction of PULF cadre, identified as Mohammad Imran Khan (23) of Imphal East District surrendered before BSF authority along with a 9mm pistol with magazine containing four live rounds in it.

March 3: SFs arrested one cadre of PULF- MI Khan identified as Mohammad Sana Khan, (30) from Keibung area and recovered one .32 revolver from his possession. Furthermore on his disclosure, the SFs arrested another PULF activist identified as Mohammad Abdul Hasim alias Nightem (58).

February 20: Imphal East commandos arrested one PULF militant, identified as Mohammad Wazimuddin alias Ithem alias Izim (32), from Keirao Mayai Leikai in Imphal East District.

February 9:Two militants, one each belonging to PULF and Military Council faction of KCP were arrested by SFs at Soura Area of Thoubal District.

January 21: Police have arrested the self-styled ‘finance secretary’ of the PULF identifeid as Islauddin(24) along with his gang, including a former assistant of a news agency (ANI) identified as Losu Mao(28) at various locations in Dimapur. The other arrested were identfied as Lohrü and Dipankar Ghosh (30). Police have also recovered 9mm country made pistol along with four live rounds of bullets, five mobile handsets and INR 38, 500 in cash.

January 19: Four PULF militants, including a woman, were arrested from a coastal village in South Goa in a joint operation by Manipur and Goa Police along with Indian Army. The suspected militants, identified as Saira Banu, Mohd Noor, Ayakatom and Samir Khan, were wanted for standing trial in Manipur for militancy-related crimes.

2010

December 20: Md Naseer Khan (26) belonging to Azad faction of the PULF, and ‘Corporal’ Salman Khan belonging to Umar Farooq faction of the PULF surrendered before the SFs.

December 14: Troops of 23 AR and 28 AR arrested a cadre of the Azad faction of PULF, identified as Rehman Ali (21), from Tarai Mamang Leikai.

December 11: A combined team of Imphal East District Police and a column of BSF arrested one cadre of the PULF, identified as Md. Samir (23), from Checkon area. He disclosed that he used to supply narcotic drugs to PULF cadres.

October 29: One cadre of the MI Khan faction of PULF, identified as Pukhrima-yum Ranjit Khan (24), was arrested by SFs from Kairang area in Imphal East District.

October 17: Imphal West District Police arrested a cadre of the MI-Khan faction of PULF, identified as ‘Finance Secretary’ Mohmmed Anis Khan alias Anisu Rahman alias Nahangou (22), from near the gate of Imphal Hotel.

October 14: SFs arrested a cadre belonging to Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Sahidur Tomba (29), during a search operation in the Bengun Mayai Leikai area of Imphal East District. One mobile handset was recovered from the militant.

October 12: A combined team of the Imphal West District Police and Assam Rifles arrested a cadre belonging to the Chandro faction of the PULF, identified as Amuba Singakhongbam (29), from Pal Ahanbi.

October 11: A cadre belonging to Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Ahmed Ali (38), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel in Yairipok area of Thoubal District. One 9-mm pistol, four live rounds of 9-mm and one cellular phone were recovered from his possession.

October 4: A cadre belonging to MI Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Haffar Khan, was arrested by the Assam Rifles from Yairipok in Thoubal District.

September 30: A cadre belonging to MI Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Umid Ali alias Ithem (24), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Changamdabi Makha Leikai. Three live rounds of 9-mm and a blank demand letter of PULF were recovered from Umid Ali’s possession.

September 28: A PULF cadre, Abdul Karim alias Itombi (58), was arrested by the Assam Rifles from Canchipur area. One 9-mm pistol with magazine, four live rounds of 9-mm pistol, one license SBBL gun and one cellular phone were recovered from his possession.

September 27: A PULF cadre, Mohammed Nurjaman alias Denny (43), was arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Sangakpham bazar area on September 27, reports Imphal Free Press. He revealed that he joined PULF through one Azad in 1997 and got basic ‘military training’ at Lairam Khullen.

September 22: A cadre belonging to Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohamed Abdul Karim alias Tomba alias Phungjao (30), was arrested by the troops from Irong Chesaba area. He was handed over to Mayang Imphal Police Station.

September 18: A PULF cadre, Mohammed Sheik Sadik alias Sukur alias K. K. (36), was arrested by the Assam Rifles from Khoirom area in Thoubal District.

A PULF cadre, Mohammed Nasib Ali (60), was arrested by the troops from Bengun in Imphal East District.

September 15: A PULF cadre, Imtihan Khan (20), was arrested by the Assam Rifles at Thongju area on. He was handed over to Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West District.

A PULF cadre, Maynagmayum Bashirudin alias Shadi (29), was arrested by the troops at Khelakhong area in Imphal West District.

September 9: Combined force of the Army and the Police arrested one Umar Farooque faction of the PULF cadre, Mohammad Yashin Khan (23) from Keibung village in Thoubal District. He is working in 'Finance Section' under the command of one Mohammad Sana Khan of Khekman Keibung Wangmataba.

One cadre each of the PREPAK and PULF outfits surrendered before the SFs at Churachandpur District.

September 4: A PULF cadre, Mohammed Azad Khan alias Salaoddin (18), was arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Golapti Maning Leikai area. One demand note addressed to Mohammed Mujibur alias Luha Malik of New Checkon Hatta signed by self styled ‘finance secretary’ Aktar Jabeat of PULF was recovered from his possession.

August 30: A cadre belonging to Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Juma Khan alias Tiger alias Jeevan (22), was arrested by the Assam Rifles in Thoubal District. 60 Spasmo Proxyvon Tab was recovered from his possession.

A PULF cadre, Mohammed Abdul Matalip alias Abongchakpan alias Punshiba (29), was arrested by a combined force the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles from Kuraopokpi area. One 9-mm pistol with a magazine and five live rounds of 9-mm ammunition were recovered from his possession.

August 26: One PULF cadre, identified as Moinuddin Barbhuiya (47), of Bagha Bajar under Dholai Police Station was arrested by the Army in Cachar District on an unspecified date. One 0.22 inch revolver, three rounds of 0.22 mm and one 12 bore country-made pistol were recovered from his possession.

August 22: An Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) trooper, Mohammed Salauddin (30), was found shot dead by unidentified assailants at Kongba Nongthongbam Leikai near a dispensary along the Kongba Keikhu IV road under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East District. The Police recovered one projectile and an empty case of pistol near the body. The report adds that slain Salaudin was a former cadre of the PULF who surrendered before the Manipur Government in 2001.

August 21: A cadre belonging to Umar Farooq faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Hedayatullah (31), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Yairipok area in Thoubal District. One motorcycle helmet, driving license, pan card, a diary, wallet containing INR 800, one mobile phone, and two subscriber identity module cards were recovered from his possession.

August 11: A PULF cadre, Sayad Amir Hussain (21), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Laxmi Bazar area. He was subsequently handed over to Lilong Police Station in Thoubal District.

August 9: A cadre belonging to Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Chesam Jahid Khan alias L.S. Nanao (21), was arrested by the troops from Mayang Imphal area in Imphal West District.

July 30: Two cadres belonging to MI Khan faction of the PULF, who were arrested by a combined team of the Thoubal District Police, Delhi Police and the Army in New Delhi on June 15, were brought to capital Imphal in Manipur. They were identified as self-styled fighting commander Mohammed Abbas alias Fazur Rahman alias Roshan alias Anil from Thoubal Moijing and Mohammed Rajauddin of Lilong Haoreibi. A police source disclosed that, among others, both are accused in the rape and murder of two girls, P.S. Snowy Anal alias Julie (27) and L.H. Easter Anal (30) of Chakpikarong, on March 21, 2008. Police records indicate involvement of the two cadres in over 10 criminal cases including the killing of a gram panchayat pradhan (chief of local self Government institution) in a Thoubal District area.

July 29: Security Forces arrested a cadre of Rafiq faction of the PULF, Anis Khan alias Mani (21) at Lilong Khunou area. One 9 mm pistol, two live rounds and one Nokia handset have been recovered from the possession of the arrestee.

July 28: Over ground worker (OGW) of the PULF, identified as Surjit Oinam alias Danny (36) was arrested by troops from Moirang Leikai in Thoubal District.

A cadre belonging to MI Khan of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Nazir Ahamad alias Babu (26), was arrested by the Imphal East District Police from his residence at Keirao Mayai Leikai. He joined the PULF in 2007 and was involved in extortion of money from the general public and Government officials.

July 23: Altogether six cadres belonging to three different militant outfits surrendered before the Director General of Police of Manipur Y. Joykumar and Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) Major General C. A. Krishnan in a function held at the Patkai Hall of the Assam Rifles at Mantripukhri in capital Imphal. They were identified as Ratan alias Prem and Khaidem Yaima Singh alias Suraj of the KYKL, Nongthombam Nikan alias Nanao belonging to Unified faction of the Kuki Defence Force (KDF), Mohammed Apik alias Khan, Mohammed Riyajuddin and Bongimayum Manarwak Ali belonging to Azad faction of the PULF. Arms surrendered by the militants included one AK 47 rifle and five 9mm pistols with magazines.

July 16: A cadre belonging to Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Salatur Rahman (41), was arrested by the Assam Rifles in Lilong Turel Ahenbi of Imphal West District.

July 12: A cadre belonging to Umar Farooq faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammmed Wahajuddin alias Chaoba (28), surrendered before the BSF at Koirengei in Imphal East District on July 12. He laid down one 9-mm Italian made pistol along with one mag 32. and four live rounds. He joined the PULF in December 2007 and was a self styled 'area commander' of Lilong area of Thoubal District.

July 10: A PULF cadre, Mohammed Iliyas (20), was arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Sangaiyumpham.

July 8: One militant of the Chandro faction of the PULF, Sikender Ali alias Siken (30), resident of Lilong Khunou, was arrested by Assam Rifles from unspecified place. Honda Activa, three cellular phones, 4326 SP tablets, 14 Syrex syrup, 300 N-10 tablets, a demand note of Chandro faction of PULF and INR 2800 recovered from his possession, a release said.

July 7: A sympathizer belonging to Umar Farooque faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Habibur Rahman, was arrested by Thoubal District Police.

July 4: Two cadres belonging to Azad faction of the PULF were arrested by the troops from Begun area. They were identified as Chesam Ayazuddin (45) and Bogimayum Manawar (27). One hand grenade was recovered from their possession.

July 1: A PULF cadre, Mohammed Habibur Rehman (46), was arrested by troops from Lamlong area in Imphal East District. Five live rounds of AK were also recovered from his possession.

June 27: A PULF cadre, Bogimayum Amuba alias Hasan (45), was arrested by troops from Khelakhong area in Thoubal District.

June 20: One M. I. Khan faction of the PULF, Sadik Khan alias Ithem (27), was arrested by the SFs at Lilong Awang Makha Leikai of Thoubal District. One Nokia cellular phone along with Aircel SIM card was recovered from his possession.

June 14: Five cadres belonging to City Meitei faction of the KCP, Lamyanba Khuman faction of the KCP and PULF surrendered before the Inspector-General (South) Assam Rifles, Major General C.A. Krishnan and Director General of Manipur Police Yumnam Joykumar Singh at the Assam Rifles headquarters at Mantripukhri in Imphal.

June 8: The Military Council faction of the KCP stated that the outfit's 'deputy chief of central finance', identified as Chingkheinganba alias Ngangom Sovet Meitei, had deserted the outfit along with one Reena, a former cadre of the PULF. Stating that the duo had taken a huge amount of party funds, the outfit said that its leadership would take a decision soon to punish the duo as well as the family members and siblings of Sovet Meitei.

May 29: Two cadres belonging to M.I. Khan Faction of the PULF were arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from a bus at Awang Khunou in Imphal West District. They were identified as Mohammed Taj Ahmed (29) and Mohammed Feroz Khan (21). A 9-mm pistol and two hand grenades were recovered from their possession.

May 28: Sentinel reports that earlier PULF cadre, identified as Mani Khan, was arrested from Lalpani under Jirighat Police Station on an unspecified date. The report adds that with funds provided by the Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to PULF operatives, the outfit has been active in the eastern part of Cachar District for expanding its base with easy access to North Cachar Hills and Manipur.

May 27: A PULF cadre, Mohammed Riyajuddin alias Ibochini (30), was arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Hatta Minuthong area. 40 Nitrosun-10 tablets, six capsules of SP, one cellular phone with Subscriber Identity Module and one demand letter of group were recovered from his possession. May 18: According to delayed report, a cadre of the PULF, Aminul Islam (45), was arrested by Lakhipur Police from Labac part-I in Chanpur of Cachar District in Assam.

May 15: Imphal Free Press reports that an over ground worker of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Gayajuddin (51), was arrested by the Thoubal District Police during a search operation on the National Higjhway-39 at Wangjing. He disclosed that Umar Farooque, 's/s commander' of the PULF, is his younger brother and he collected money from contractors, traders and Government employees in Thoubal District to raise the fund under the instruction of Farooque.

A PULF cadre, Mohammed Islamudin alias Lion (35), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Phubakchao bazaar area. One .38 locally made revolver, two Chinese hand grenades without detonators and some ammunition were recovered from his possession. He was operating under the 'command' of one Thambou (35) and was involved in the killing of one minor girl from Hatta Golapati.

May 2: A suspected PULF cadre, Sana Khan, was arrested by the Police from Hatigaon in Guwahati city, Assam.

April 29: A PULF cadre, Mohammed Altab Hussain alias Baboy alias Boy (27), was arrested by Imphal East District Police from Hatta Golapati. Three demand letters of PULF and one cellular phone with subscriber identity module card were recovered from his possession. He disclosed that he joined PULF in May 2007 through one self-styled 'project officer' Mohammed Tamijur and is currently operating under the 'command' of Mohammed Jamaruddin of Lilong Usoipokpi. He further disclosed that he was involved in extortion of money from general public, Government officials, and transportation of arms and ammunition.

April 16: One cadre of the Manipur-based PULF, identified as Kalam Uddin of Makhan Nagar area under Jirighat Police Station in Cachar District of Assam, was arrested by the Security Forces, reports Sentinel. One demand note or extortion notice of INR 0.2 million, which was to be served on some individual or business house of the area, was recovered from his possession. PULF after lying low in Barak Valley for long respite has been trying to regroup and spread its presence, following the hiatus created by the surrender of Black Widow (BW) and the subdued presence of People's Liberation Army (PLA), United National Liberation Front (UNLF), People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP).

April 14: A PULF cadre, Wahengbam Inao alias Khomei alias Ibohal Singh (25), was arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Kongba bazaar area on. He joined the outfit in December 2009 under one Mohammed Kaji Umar alias Tebe and was involved in extortion.

Another PULF cadre, Hijam Romeo (26), was arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Kongpal Students Club. He disclosed that he joined the outfit through one Umar Kaji.

April 11: A PULF cadre, Mohammed Iboyai (35), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Thongju area. He was subsequently handed over to Kakwa Police Station in Imphal West District.

April 6: A woman cadre of the PULF, identified as Ralizhar (37), was arrested by the Imphal East District Police on. Five demand notes of the PULF and a small bottle containing some powder, suspected to be drugs, were recovered from her possession. She disclosed that she was involved in extortion of money from the general public and Government officials.

April 5: Two cadres of belonging to the MI Khan faction of the PULF were arrested by SFs at Sekmaijin Bazar of Thouba Distrct. They were identified as Mohammed Abdur Rahaman (38) and Mohammed Ahmed Ali (41).

A woman cadre belonging to Umar Faruk faction of the PULF, identified as Makakmayum Rahena Begum (27), was arrested by the Imphal West District Police from North AOC area. One cell phone along with two subscriber identity module cards, one money bag along with INR 50 and one fake currency note of INR 1000 and a hand bag having some clothes were recovered from her possession. She disclosed that she joined the PULF in 2002 through one Soni alias Sadhana alias Samina (35) of Bora Yangbi Moirang in 'finance section' of the outfit and was operating under her 'command' since then.

April 3: A cadre of Kazi group of the PULF, identified as Potsambam Deben Singh (40), was arrested by the Security Forces in Thoubal District.

March 10: A PULF cadre, Mohammed Alimuddin alias Shaolin (23), was arrested by the Imphal East District Police from KR Land area.

March 5: A PULF cadre, Abdual Matalab (24), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Chamol under Tengnoupal Police Station in Chandel District.

February 13: The self-styled ‘finance secretary’ of the PULF, Najir Hussain alias Chisti (39) of Kiekhu Awang Leikai, who was arrested by the combined team of Imphal East District Police and Delhi Police from an area of Delhi on February 10, was brought to Imphal for further Police interrogation

February 10: One PULF cadre, Sheikh Sadik Hussain alias Nazir (40), was arrested by Delhi Police's Special Cell from Hauz Rani area in New Delhi. Sheikh Sadik Hussain was suspected of handling finances of PULF and wanted in Manipur in four cases.

February 3: A suspected PULF cadre was shot dead by Assam Rifles personnel during an encounter at Kiyamgei Muslim Takok Palli under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East District. While other militants managed to escape, one AK-56-Rifle loaded with one magazine and nine live rounds and some incriminating documents of the outfit were recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

January 20: Dimapur District Police arrested a gang of four extortionists, including self-styled 'finance secretary' of the PULF, in Nagaland. They were identified as Losu Mao, Lohrü, Dipankar Ghosh and Islauddin. While Losu was a former assistant cameraman of the ANI news agency, Islauddin belonged to the PULF. Based on the confessional statement of Islauddin, Police raided a place where he used to stay at Ghorapatty and recovered 9-mm locally made pistol along with four live rounds, five cellular phones and INR 38, 500.

January 18: A suspected PULF militant, identified as 'finance secretary' Mohammed Rishikanta alias Boy (23), was shot dead by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during an encounter at Waithou Golai Achouba. While other militants managed to escape, one 9-mm pistol, one magazine, three live rounds of 9-mm ammunition, one .36 HE hand grenade with detonator, one cellular phone, one extortion note and one leather wallet with INR 135 were recovered from the encounter site.

January 5: A cadre belonging to Umar Farrooq faction of the PULF, identified as Abdul Salem (25), was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Ward No. 5 at Moreh in Chandel District on January 5. He was handed over to Imphal West District Police.

January 4: Three PULF cadres, including two women, are arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Sendra. They are identified as Wanglembam Inao alias Khomei Meitei (28), Salam alias Shamo Devi (45) and Oinam Premila Devi (39). One 9-mm pistol with 3 live ammunitions, 10 blank letter head of Omar Qazi faction of the PULF and four rubber stamp seals of the PULF are recovered from their possession.

Two suspected PULF cadres are shot dead by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during an encounter at Karongthel Makha near Heirok Litan Makhong. One AK series rifle along with two magazines, one 9-mm pistol along with one magazine, one .36 hand grenade, 22 live ammunitions of AK ammunitions, 6 live ammunitions of 9-mm and one demand letter of the PULF are recovered from the encounter site.

A section official of the Manipur Minor Irrigation Department, G. Manisana Sharma, was abducted by suspected PULF militants from Thoubal District. The report adds that abduction was linked to extortion demands made by the group from either the Department or the official himself. The abducted official is from Thoubal district and posted at the Department’s head office in Lamphel of Imphal West District.

December 25: A cadre belonging to Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Yumkhai Rajit Khan (24), is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Khergao areas in Imphal East District.

December 22: Journalists suspend work to hold a meeting to discuss pressure from factions of the PULF over publication of statements issued by them. The meeting decides not to publish any statement issued by the factions.

December 20: Two suspected PULF cadres are shot dead by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during an encounter at Leishangthem and Khelakhong area. They are identified as Mohammed Anishkhan (16) and Mohammed Ali alias Bocha (21). While other militants manage to escape, one AK series rifle loaded with one magazine containing nine live ammunitions, one 9-mm pistol with magazine containing six live rounds, one Chinese made hand grenade, one M-16 magazine containing eight live rounds, one misfired round of lethod, one demand letter of PULF and one leather wallet with INR 200 are recovered from the possession of the slain militants.

December 19: The ‘chief’ of the M.I. Khan faction of PULF, Mohammed Islamuddin alias Ibrahim Kaji alias M.I. Khan (48), who was in detention under judicial custody at the Central Jail Sajiwa in Imphal following the recommendation from the state NSA Board, is transferred to the Tihar Jail in Delhi.

December 6: A PULF cadre, Mohamed Mahamud Khan (24), is arrested by the Imphal East Police from Kairang.

December 1: Two cadres belonging to M.I. Khan faction of the PULF are arrested by the Thoubal District Police during a search operation at Thoubal Kshetri Leikai. They are identified as Mohammed Sahid Ahmad alias Abdul Sahid (25) and Mohammed Sherkhan (23).

November 27: A cadre belonging to M.I. Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Najemuddin alias Ejeen (38), is arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Irilthong along Imphal Yairipok road.

November 16: A PULF militant, identified as 38-year old Abdul Assim, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East District. One cellular phone and a motorcycle are recovered from his possession.

October 18: A cadre belonging to M.I. Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Azad Khan (23), is arrested by the Assam Rifles at Yairipok in Thoubal District.

October 11: A militant belonging to the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Manwal (24), is arrested by the Army personnel from Bengun Makha Leikai area in Imphal East District.

October 6: A militant belonging to the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Jiyauddin (29), is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from a place under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal District.

October 3: A PULF militant, Mohammed Rafi (35), is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation at Yairipok Khoirom in Thoubal District.

September 30: A woman cadre of the PULF, identified as Thoibi Begum (32), is arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Khetrigao Makha Leikai. Two letter heads of PULF, three rounds of ammunition of 7.65 mm and 40 SP tablets are recovered from her possession.

September 13: Troops arrested a PULF militant, Abdul Rakib, from Longkhow (Chiripar) area in Cachar District, while he was coming to collect 'tax' from the local residents. The militant is a resident of Khergao at Mamang Leikai in Imphal. A 7.62 mm revolver, five extortion notes of PULF (Azad fraction) and one rubber stamp of the PULF 'finance secretary' are recovered from his possession. According to sources from the Army, Abdul underwent training in 2006.

September 9: Troops arrested two suspected PULF militants, identified as Saidul (34), son of Abdul Ahmed and Samein Hussain (22), son of Hafiz Ali Laskar of Badabawure village, from their residence at Kachudaram in the Cachar District of Assam.

September 7: Two cadres belonging to the Omar Farooq faction of the PULF, identified as Madami (18) and Mohammed Rajouddin (19), are arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Molnoi under Kakching Police Station in Thoubal District, while moving towards Pallel for their extortion drive. They reportedly joined the PULF in July 2009.

August 30: A PULF militant, Mohammed Abbas Khan (26), is arrested by a combined team of the Army and Assam Rifles from Urup Khou areas. One 9-mm pistol with magazine, one laptop, and one demand letter were recovered from his possession.

August 26: A suspected KCP cadre is shot dead by the Assam Rifles personnel during an encounter at Ngariyan Pangal area under Yairipok Police Station in Thoubal District. While other militants manage to escape, one 9-mm pistol along with magazine and three live rounds are recovered from the possession of the slain militant. Meanwhile, another source mentions that the slain militant is a PULF cadre, identified as Mohammed Samirkhan.

August 26: 16 cadres belonging to two factions of the PULF have defected from their groups and joined the MI Khan faction of the same outfit along with weapons. They include 11 cadres of Kazi Umar faction, including its 'project officer in-charge' Mohammed Khaba and five defectors from the Azad faction led by Imphal West District 'commander' Mohammed Lion. Mohammed Khaba in Bishnupur District said the PULF has split into several factions after the death of its leader Bashir Lashkar. "With a desire to re-unite all factions into a single party, just as it was under the late leader, we joined MI Khan group…In our search for a leader capable of re-uniting the factions, we found none except MI Khan", Khaba claimed. He accused Kazi Umar of being selfish and thinking only for his family without any concern for the cadres of the outfit. The group led by Mohammed Khaba also includes a cadre of the rank of a 'major'. They reportedly brought three AK-56 rifles with 150 live rounds, four 9 mm pistols with 100 live rounds and six Chinese hand grenades. Mohammed Lion said he joined the MI Khan faction after leaving the Azad Khan group to unite the PULF, instead of remaining fragmented. The defectors led by Lion include one 'sergeant' and they come along with one M-16 rifle, one AK-47 rifle, one 9 mm pistol and 200 rounds of ammunition.

August 10: A militant belonging to the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Firoj Khan alias Akhan, is arrested by the Imphal East District Police during a search operation in Lilong Chingjao. One 9-mm pistol and a magazine with four live rounds are recovered from his possession.

August 5: The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel recover at least 10 kilograms of high powered explosives and 80 electric detonators at Malaidigi village under Badarpur block of Karimganj District in Assam. Three suspected PULF militants, Samsuddin, Nelabuddin, and Jamaluddin, are arrested in this connection.

July 29: A ‘finance secretary’ belonging to the MI Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Fazlur Rehman alias Abbas alias Killer, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation at Jirighat of Cachar District in Assam. One .38 revolver and four live rounds were also recovered from his possession. Abbas is asked to extort from Jiribam and Jirighat for his outfit’s fund.

July 28: A PULF sympathizer, Mohammed Mujibur Rahaman, is arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Minuthong Hatta area.

A PULF sympathizer, Mohammed Abdul Samad alias Tomba, is arrested by the Imphal East District Police from New Checkon area.

July 25: The Azad group of the PULF in a press release says that the outfit in a general body meeting on July 20 somewhere in the Thoubal District decided to reconstitute its 'representatives'. It said henceforth Alam Azad would be its 'chairman'. The other 'office bearers' had also been changed and so also all its previous 'stationeries and letter heads', it added.

July 24: The Tripura Director General of Police Pranay Sahaya said the PULF, having established links with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence and trained in Bangladesh, was formed at the behest of the NSCN-IM. "NSCN-IM had formed the PULF in 1995 and their cadre strength was 2,000, 90 percent of them Muslims," he says.

July 19: Two cadres belonging to the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohamad alias Thoiba (19) and Mustafa alias Nazir Khang (19), are arrested by a combined team of the Imphal West District Police and Maratha Light Infantry from Iram Siphai. Two live rounds of AK-47 ammunition and one stolen two wheeler are recovered from their possession.

July 18: A PULF militant, Mohammed Madini Hasim, is arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Khurai Heikrumakhong.

July 15: Police arrest seven militants of the Azad fraction of the PULF, including a woman, from a motor stand at capital Agartala in Tripura. "The seven militants of Azad fraction of PULF including their self-styled ‘Army chief’ Mohammad Abdur Rahaman (25) were detained from a motor stand in Agartala with some Bangladeshi mobile SIM cards and incriminating documents," says the Director General of Police Pranay Sahaya. "The rebels unsuccessfully tried to cross the border through Sonamura in western Tripura and then they returned to go to Bangladesh through another route," he adds. The arrested militants were identified as Mohammad Abdur Rahman (25), Mohammad Firoz Khan alias Laskar (24), Mohammad Abdul Kasim (39), Mohammad Nazir Ahamed alias Tai Kunda (23), Mohammad Sanowar Ali (18), Mohammad Jamir (30) and Lufi. The seven militants later confessed that they were trained in Bangladesh by the Nagaland-based National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) outfit.

July 13: Police arrest one woman cadre of the PULF, identified as Laishram Pinky alias Abem alias Luxmi (26) of Heingang Kontha Ahallup, from Khurai in Imphal East District.

July 12: The Imphal East District Police arrest a PULF militant, identified as Mohammad Ningthem alias Balon (29) of Thoubal Moijing Leikai, from Minuthing Hatta at around 5.30 am (IST).

July 8: The chairman of the Azad faction of PULF, Mohammad Anis, who was arrested by a combined team of Imphal East District Police and Bangalore Police from a rented house at Saingayannpalya in the Mahadevpura area of Bangalore city in the morning of July 6, was brought to Imphal. Anis is to be produced before a Court in Imphal on July 9.

July 8: The Imphal East District Police arrested two PULF militants, identified as Mohammad Iboton (43) of Kshetri Mayai Leikai and Mohammad Wahid Khan (33) of Kshetrigao Thambalkhong, from the Kshetrigao Mayai Leikai area.

July 7: The newly elected ‘chairman’ of the ‘Azad fraction’ of PULF, Mohammad Anish alias Jahangir Azad alias Rauson Ali (30) of Lilong Chingjao in Thoubal District, was arrested by a combined team of the Manipur Police and Karnataka Police from Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka.

July 2: SFs arrested two militants of the Azad faction of the PULF in two separate incidents, reports Imphal Free Press. In the first incident, Mohammad Alimuddin alias Shaolin (22) was arrested from KR Lane in the Imphal East District. During interrogation, Alimuddin confessed that he joined the outfit in August 2008 through Mazida Bibi of Golapati and was working under the command of 'Finance Secretary' Mohammad Janir of Keirao Manjor Engkhol. Meanwhile, another cadre of the outfit was arrested on the same day around 9.45 am (IST) from Keirao Sabal Leikai. The arrested militant, identified as Mohammad Farijuddin alias Iboinu (19), confessed that he joined the outfit in August 2008 through Janir and was trained at Khokhoi in the State of Nagaland.

June 23: A militant of the MI Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Ramaluddin, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from an unspecified place under Yairipok Police Station in Thoubal District.

June 21 : Police arrest a militant of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Phundreimayum Gaffar, from Phundrei Maning Leikai in Imphal West District.

June 19: An unidentified person claiming to be a militant of the Kangleipak People’s Liberation Army, which is believed to be a faction of the PULF, informs over phone that a bomb had been planted at the office of the local daily Sangai Express at Thouda Bhabok Leikai in capital Imphal by an unspecified outfit. Subsequently, the Police make a search operation, but fail to recover any explosive from the office.

June 16: A militant belonging to the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Hasim, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Yairipok. He is a self styled ‘sergeant of finance’ of the outfit.

June 12: A PULF militant, Mohammed Suraj Khan, is arrested by a combined team of the Imphal East District Police and Assam Rifles from Keikhu Bazaar area.

June 11: A PULF militant, identified as Mohammed Suraj Khan, is arrested by a combined team of the Imphal East District Police and Assam Rifles from Keikhu Bazaar area. Mohammed Suraj Khan confesses during interrogation that he joined the PULF six month back and was involved in extortion of money from traders, contractors and Government officials.

June 7: A PULF militant, Mohammed Gaphar, is arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Phouden Moirangpalli. Gaphar confesses during interrogation that he was operating in the 'finance section' of the outfit.

June 3: A militant belonging to the M.I. Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Jaherudil Khan, is arrested by the Thoubal District Police from Tangjeng area.

May 28: The PULF, reacting to the May 25 killing of a Manipur University (MU) Professor, Mohammed Islamuddin, inside the campus, questioned the charges levelled by the KYKL against the slain academician. The KYKL in a press release on May 26 reportedly claims responsibility for publicly executing the professor in broad daylight in the university campus saying that he was the ring leader of a clique within the MU which was usurping all powers of the University and using it to their selfish ends. The 'secretary general' of the KCP outfit, Khamba Luwangcha, says it is unfortunate that such a killing should have come at a time when the people are crying out against 'State sponsored terrorism' wherein Police Commandos and Security Forces level charges after eliminating someone.

Two PULF militants, including a woman, are arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Golapati Maning Leikai. They are identified as Mohammed Tajuddin alias Ibungo alias Sanayai and Laishram Anjana alias Thoi alias Tombi alias Malemngabi. The duo confessed that they joined the outfit in 2009 and were currently working as 'project officer in charge' of the outfit.

May 22: A PULF linkman, identified as Mohammed Imamuddin Chowdhury, is arrested by troops from his residence at Badripar in Silchar of Cachar District in Assam.

May 18: The PULF states that after celebrating its 16th foundation day the general assembly of the outfit on May 15 elected Aadam Laskar its new 'chairman', a post which had been reportedly lying vacant for the past four years. The general assembly of the group also elected seven 'secretaries', one 'monitoring cell chairman' and one 'project coordinator', says the outfit. The new 'finance secretary' is K. Victor, it says. The group mentions that its 'finance department' has also been reactivated, but the practice of demanding money from each and everyone has been discontinued. All earnings below INR 20,000 a month would be exempted from all 'taxes', but those earning above the amount would be 'liable' to pay a 'nominal annual tax', the group says. No uniform forces would be made to pay 'taxes", but black marketers and profiteers would be 'taxed', it says.

May 16: Three PULF cadres are arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel when they were traveling along with banned wild life products and narcotics in three vehicles at Bongyang area under Tegnoupal Police Station in Thoubal District. They are identified as Mohammed Atour Rahman, Mohammed Musbaoddin and Mohammed Ali. 21364 Actified tablets and 25 kilograms of Pangolin shells are recovered from the possession of the militants while carrying those smuggled items to sell at higher price in Myanmar to purchase war like stores.

May 15: A cadre belonging to the MI Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Ahmed Ali, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel when he was extorting money in the general area of Wangkhem in Thoubal District.

May 13: A cadre belonging to MI faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Mushatfim, is arrested by Assam Rifles from Lilong Haoreibi in Thoubal. One motor cycle and a wallet with INR 50 are recovered from the possession of Mushatfim.

May 11: A militant of the Umar Farooque faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Ramijuddin Shah alias Ramji, is arrested by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation in and around Sora area.

May 10: A militant belonging to the Umar Faroq faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Ziauddin, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from the general area of Yairipok Singga in Thoubal District. Two demand letters are recovered from his possession.

May 2: A cadre belonging to Azad faction of the PULF, Mohammed Abdul Kalam alias Kalam, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel in Thoubal District.

April 29: Two PULF militants, identified as Mohammed Razaque Khan alias Ethem and Mohammed Arish Khan, are arrested by the Thoubal District Police during a search operation at Yairipok Lamkhai area.

April 28: A militant belonging to the M.I. Khan faction of the PULF, S. Wahidur alias Nanao, is arrested by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles from Kakching Lamkhai. One locally-made revolver, three live rounds of point 32 ammunition and five rounds of AK ammunition are recovered from his possession. He confesses during interrogation that he was involved in extortion of money from the general public.

April 26: A PULF cadre, Mohammed Sana Khan alias Azad (18), is arrested by a combined team of the Imphal West District Police and Assam Rifles from New Lambulane area.

April 11: A cadre belonging to Quaji Umar faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Islamuddin alias Megha, is arrested by Thoubal District Police during a search at Thoubal bazaar area. He reveals that he was in 'finance section' of the outfit.

A cadre belonging to the Umar Farooque faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Ibothem alias Rono alias Ithem, is arrested by a combined force of Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles from Irengband area. April 1: Two suspected militants of the Azad faction of the PULF are arrested by Assam Rifles personnel from Bamon Leikai area under Yairipok Police Station in Thoubal District.

March 27: A PULF cadre, Sahidur Rahman alias Ibungo, is arrested by Assam Rifles personnel from Mamang Haoreibi under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal District.

March 23: Two militants of the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Latif Ali and Mohammed Salauddin, are arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Bongyang area in the Chandel District along the National Highway-39, while travelling in a vehicle from Imphal to Moreh. 103250 Actifed tablets are also recovered from their vehicle.

March 17: Troops arrested one cadre of the Azad faction of the PULF while traveling in a vehicle at Tengnoupal. He is identified as Washidur Rehman.

An over-ground worker of the Azad faction of the PULF is arrested by troops from Khelakhong area. He is identified as Mohammed Nijamuddin alias Tomba.

March 21: Assam Rifles personnel arrest one militant of the M.I. Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Mustak Khan, from Makha Leikai area under Lilong Police Station.

March 16: One PULF militant, Mohammed Abdul Noor, is arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police from Munirka. He had reportedly come to the national capital along with his accomplices to collect a consignment of arms, explosives and funds. According to Police sources, Abdul joined the PULF in 2006 as a Delhi-based coordinator and was involved in planning the abduction of an assistant engineer with the Public Works Department in Manipur.

March 15: Two PULF militants are shot dead by the Imphal East District Police during an encounter at Keirao area. One M 21 rifle with six rounds of ammunition and one 9-mm pistol with four live rounds are recovered from the encounter site.

March 9: Two leaders of a faction of the PULF, arrested from Mumbai by a combined team of the Imphal East District Police and Army in collaboration with the Mumbai Police on March 5, are remanded to Police custody till March 16.

March 7: A joint team of the Manipur Police and Assam Rifles shot dead the leader of the Azad faction of the PULF and three other cadres of the outfit during a pre-dawn encounter in the foothills of Tekhanbi Kachin in the Imphal East District. The four slain PULF cadres include the ‘chairman’ of the faction, Mohammed Azad alias Abul Kalam, ‘finance secretary’, Mohammed Sahid alias Raj Khan, Mohammed Firoz Khan, and Mohammed Azad Khan Shekhar alias Ijaaj Khan. Two AK-56 rifles with 17 live rounds of ammunition, one lethod gun with two shells, a 9-mm pistol with two live rounds of ammunition and two Chinese hand grenades are recovered from the possession of the slain militants.

March 4: A suspected PULF militant is shot dead by a combined force of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles during an encounter at Phabakchao village. While other militants manage to escape, a 9-mm pistol, a magazine, three live rounds of 9-mm ammunition and a misfired round of 9-mm ammunition are recovered from his possession.

March 2: A PULF cadre, Mohammed Abdul Gafar, is arrested by the Imphal West District Police from Langthabal area.

February 27: A suspected PULF militant is shot dead by a combined force of the Imphal East District Police and Assam Rifles during an encounter at Keirao Litan Makhong Maning under Irilbung Police Station. While other militants manage to escape, one 9-mm pistol, one magazine with three live rounds and four letterheads of the PULF were recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

February 17: Two PULF cadres, identified as Abdul Latif and James Alias Thoungbe, are arrested by a combined team of the Dimapur District Police and India Reserve Battalion personnel from Notun Bosti area. Two cell phones, 32 live rounds of ammunitions of M20, one AK 47 Sling, a memory card and a vehicle are recovered from Latif’s residence. In a separate search operation, four Chinese hand grenades are recovered from the residence of a woman, Rosemary Diswang, at Haralu colony area in Dimapur. She was planning to supply the grenades to Latif for INR 40,000.

February 17: One PULF cadre, Mohammed Abash alias Sana, is arrested by a combined team of the Thoubal District Police and Assam Rifles personnel from Thoubal Bazaar area.

February 13: A cadre of the Farooque faction of the PULF outfit, identified as Mohammed Ruhibul alias Majibur Rahaman alias Dahan, is arrested by the Thoubal District Police from the Sora Bazaar area.

February 12: Troops arrested a suspected PULF cadre, Anwar Hussain, from Labakar village in the Cachar District. A large quantity of explosive materials, including eight gelatin sticks weighing 1 kilogram, eight detonators and a fuse wire, is recovered from his possession. He was allegedly planning to carry out serial bomb blasts in Silchar and Lakhimpur area of Cachar District. He is also involved in the recruitment of local persons for the Azad faction of the PULF.

January 29: A cadre of the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Safir alias Ibungo, is arrested by the AR under Yairipok Police Station limits.

January 28: A cadre of the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Amzad Khan, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Wangkhem area under Yairipok Police Station in the Thoubal District.

January 19: The PULF, in a press release, condemns all incidents of terrorism in the State. It also mentions that the Nagaland-based NSCN-IM is presently supporting a splinter group of the PULF, which is indulging in terrorist activities. The press release said there is no place for terrorism in Islam and Muslims who indulge in it are acting against the tenets of the religion.

January 16: Assam Police neutralize a PULF hideout in Guwahati and arrest two persons, including a woman, for their links with the outfit. The arrested woman, identified as Noorsena, is suspected to be the wife of the 'finance secretary' of the PULF. The other arrested person is identified as Zakir Hussain. A 9 mm pistol is also recovered from their possession.

January 13: A suspected PULF militant, Mohammed Ayub Ali, is shot dead by the Security Force personnel at Khergao Keikhu bridge in the Imphal East District. Three extortion notes of the outfit and one 9-mm pistol along with four live rounds are recovered from his possession.

January 12: A cadre of the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Atawar Rahman alias Ethem, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Chamol in the Chandel District. He confesses that he had gone to Myanmar for financial dealings.

January 9: Assam Rifles personnel arrest a cadre of the Umar Farroq faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Amar, from general area of Wankhem under Yairipok Police Station in the Thoubal District. An over ground worker of the same faction, identified as Mohammed Nazir Uddin, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Tengnoupal area.

A PULF cadre, Mohammed Manikhan alias Raju, is arrested by the Imphal East District Police from Hatta Minuthong.

January 8: A PULF cadre, Bogimayum Ramijuddin, is arrested by Thoubal District Police at Phundrei village.

January 7: A cadre of the Umar Farooq faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Jalaoruddin alias Sabir alias Anil, is arrested by the Thoubal District Police from near Ngariyan hills along Imphal-Yairipok road.

January 4: An achievement report released by the Superintendent Police of Imphal West District, L. Kailun, states that 91 militants, including eight PULF cadres, were shot dead and 343 others, including 15 PULF cadres, arrested by the District Police during counter-insurgency operations in 2008. The report says of the 343 arrested, 83 were detained under the National Security Act (NSA). 88 assorted weapons and 989 ammunitions were recovered from the arrested and slain militants, the report adds. In addition, the report further says INR 1, 95,280 were also recovered from these militants.

December 30: Troops of Assam Rifles arrest a cadre of the Umar Farooq faction of the PULF, Mohammed Daulat Khan alias Dewan, from near Singga between Thoubal and Yairipok. Four demand letters are recovered from his possession.

Assam Rifles personnel arrest a PULF coordinator, Abdul Rahim, during a search operation at Saivom village under Tengnoupal Police Station. While he belonged to Manipur, he was staying at Tamu in Myanmar. He confesses that he had visited New Delhi, Sahranpur, and the Deoband campus of Jalialabad in Uttar Pradesh to coordinate militant activities. He returned to Myanmar to get weapons for the PULF.

The Imphal West District Police arrest a cadre of the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Korimayum Riyas alias Masud, from Major Khul. He confesses during interrogation that he was asked to collect INR 35,000 from one Mohammed Hassimbi of Yairipok and INR 8000 from tablet supplier for party fund. Six live rounds of .43 ammunition and one two wheeler without registration number are recovered from his possession.

December 28: A PULF militant, Mohammed Sanayai, is arrested by the AR troops from Singga under Yairipok Police Station in the Thoubal District.

December 24: Troops of Assam Rifles arrest one suspected cadre of the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Maskur, from Wangkhem village under Yairipok Police Station in the Thoubal District. Two demand letters are recovered from his possession.

December 23: Troops of 34 Assam Rifles arrest a PULF cadre, Mohammed Saleh Khan, from Yairipok bazar area under Yairipok Police Station in the Thoubal District. Two demand letters of the PULF and seven capsules of Sp drug were recovered from his possession.

December 22: A suspected PULF cadre, Mohammed Tajuddin, is shot dead by a team of Imphal West District Police at Lilong Kaira Khul. While the other militants manage to escape from the encounter site, a 9-mm pistol along with two live rounds is recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

December 14: A team of Imphal East Police personnel arrests one PULF militant, identified as Mohammed Warish, from Kshetrigao. One copy of a publication Lamjing Meira, published by the publicity cell of the outfit, is recovered from his possession.

December 11: Two suspected PULF cadres are killed by a combined team of Thoubal District Police Commandos and personnel of 34 Assam Rifles during a counter-insurgency operation at Hayel Loubuk under Kakching Police Station. Some other militants manage to escape from the encounter site. One US made carbine with one magazine loaded with six live rounds, one 9-mm pistol with magazine loaded with four live rounds, one .36 hand grenade with one detonator and two demand letters of the PULF are recovered from the possession of the slain militants.

December 8: SFs arrests one cadre of the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as ‘finance secretary’ Mohammed Waris Ali alias Sana, and a KYKL cadre, Arunjit alias Naobi, from Yairipok bazaar.

December 4: A suspected PULF cadre is shot dead by a team of Thoubal District police commandos and personnel of the 32 Assam Rifles at Waithou Tangjeng village under Thoubal police station. While other militants manage to escape from the encounter site, an M-20 rifle with three live rounds and one hand grenade are recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

November 30: The area commander of Azad faction of the PULF in Thoubal District, identified as Mohammed Zameer Khan, surrenders before the Border Security Force authorities at CI Post Khetri Leikai. He lays down one 7.65-mm Petro Beratta pistol, two magazines, five live rounds of ammunition and one Chinese hand grenade.

November 24: Two suspected PULF cadres, identified as Mohammed Ajijur and Mohammed Helim, are shot dead by the security forces at Yairipok Poirou Pat road under Yairipok police station. Two 9-mm pistols with live rounds are recovered from the possession of the slain militants.

November 15: A suspected PULF cadre is shot dead by the Thoubal district police during an encounter at Patpal in Langthabal on the National Highway-39. While the other militants manage to escape from the encounter site, one 9-mm pistol loaded with three live rounds and five live rounds of AK ammunition are recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

November 11: A senior cadre of Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Alimuddin alias Ali, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from Pechi area in the Thoubal district.

November 10: Two PULF cadres, Mohammed Safir Ahamed and Mohammed Manon, are arrested by a combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and 12th Maratha Light Infantry from Mayang Imphal bazaar. Three 9-mm ammunition and one auto-rickshaw are recovered from their possession.

November 9: The ‘assistant finance secretary’ and Thoubal district ‘army commander’ of the M.I.Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Abdul Kalam alias Haroon Sheikh, is shot dead by the Assam Rifles personnel during an encounter at Hiyangthang Tarahei Konjil Awang Leikai under Wangoi police station. A 9-mm pistol, six live rounds, four driving licenses, passport photographs, INR 700 in cash and three coins are recovered from the possession of the slain militant. Two other militants manage to escape from the encounter site.

A cadre belonging to the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Zalus Khan, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation at Wangkhem area in the Thoubal district.

November 8: The Superintendent of Police of Imphal East district, Th. Radheshyam, said that vulnerable persons like drug addicts, HIV positive persons and widows are being used by militant groups, including KRA, Kuki Revolutionary Army-Unification (KRA-U), KLA, PULF and KCP- Military Council, in their extortion drive.

November 2: Three suspected PULF cadres are arrested by troops of 22 Artillery from Barak Circle under Jiribam police station. Later, one of them is released after he is found to be innocent. The two other militants confess that they were asked to carry out serial blast in Jiribam.

He confesses that he joined the outfit in December 2004 and got training at Olanpa in Dimapur of Nagalnd.

October 23: Five cadres of the Military Council faction of the KCP and PULF are shot dead by a combined team of the Imphal East district police commandos and personnel of 39 Assam Rifles during an encounter at Heingang Heibimakhong Ching under Heingang police station. Around ten other militants manage to escape. Two M-16 rifles, one carbine, one 9-mm pistol with 12 live rounds, 20 live rounds of SLR gun, nine detonators, one 36 Indian hand grenade, one lethod shell, one magazine of SLR, six dry cell bateries, two kilograms of PEK explosives, four antenna of wireless sets, and demand letters of the KCP-Military Council signed by one Lamyanba Khuman, 'commander in chief' of the faction addressed to ABC Godown at Khoyathong in Imphal demanding INR ten million, and another demand letter signed by 'district commander' Chingsanglakpa of the faction addressed to the Central Agriculture University, Iroisemba demanding INR 0.5million , along with one identity card issued by the North East Computer Centre at Zoo Nareng Road in Guwahati of Assam in the name of B. A. Yahiya Khan of Thoubal are recovered from the encounter site.

October 21: A cadre of the Azad faction of the PULF, identified as corporal Mohammed Jlaluddin alias Jalai, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation in the general area of Yairipok Bazar in the Thoubal district. A two wheeler vehicle is recovered from his possession.

October 13: Two PULF cadres, Mohammed Taj Ahemed Shaha and Shahid Riyajuddin alias Ibungo, are arrested at Thoubal bazaar.

October 10: The Imphal East district police commandos seize more than 18 mobile phones from the possession of under trial prisoners belonging to cadres of the Military Council faction of the KCP, KRA-U and PULF inside the Sajiwa prison. The Superintendent of Police of the district Th. Radheshyam says that the search operation was carried out after receiving information that many militant cadres and leaders, who were detained under judicial custody for trial, were involved in many cases of extortion and they were carrying out their activities through mobile phones.

October 9: A cadre of the M.I. Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Aktar Ali, is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation at Urup.

October 8: The Thoubal district police commandos arrest a PULF cadre, Mohammed Gafar, during a search operation at Thoubal Bazar. He confessed that he was operating ‘in finance section’ with his associate Mohammed Ibothem of Lilong Mairenkhun.

October 3: Sentinel quoting intelligence source reports that the Manipur based PULF planned to carry out subversive activities at Silchar and Karimganj in Assam during the Durga Puja (Hindu Festival). The report adds that at least four cadres of the outfit recently visited Dimapur in Nagaland for procuring IEDs from the NSCN-IM.

September 17: A woman cadre of the PULF, identified as Mayenglambam Mema Devi, is arrested by the Thoubal district commandos from Kakching Paji Leirak. She confesses that she has joined the PULF in July 2008 through one Tikendra alias Suresh and is operating in the ‘finance section under the command ‘of Tikendra with her associate, identified as Madhuri.

September 16: One woman cadre of the PULF, identified as Naorem Memcha Leima, is arrested by a combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and 32 Assam Rifles along with women police from the Keishampat bus parking. She is asked to distribute demand letters of the PULF to the general public under the ‘command of finance secretary’ Rikan Choudury of the PULF.

September 12: A combined force of Imphal East district police commandos and troops of 32 Assam Rifles arrests one PULF cadre, Mohammed Jahir, from Urup Thongkhong.

September 1: Two PULF cadres, Mohammed Chingish Khan alias Rabi and Mohammed Fazul Haque alias Sanju, are arrested by the Imphal East district police near the Soibam Leikai Citizen Club. Two demand letters of the PULF signed by one Mustak Ali, ‘project officer’ of the outfit, addressed to the Manipur AIDS Control Society head office and the department of industries, are recovered from their possession.

August 29: The Thoubal district police arrest a woman cadre of the PLA, identified as Soraisam Rashitombi Chanu alias Bidya, during a search operation at Andro Kharam village. Rashitombi later confesses that she joined the PLA in 1996 through one Usha of Pukhao and got basic military training in Myanmar in 1998 and is presently operating in the ‘women’s wing of division no-III’ of the PLA under the ‘command’ of one Gambini with her associate Latamani of the same outfit.

One mobile phone and a purse are recovered from their possession.

August 25: Two suspected PULF militants are shot dead by the Imphal West district police commandos during a counter-insurgency operation at Meitei Lamkhai under Singjamei police station. One .38 revolver and one hand grenade are recovered from the possession of the slain militants.

August 20: Two PULF militants, identified as ‘s/s cpl’ Ethmoba Umaibi and ‘s/s col’ Samsel Haq alias Dilip Khan, are arrested from Khunbi under Kakching police station on August 20. One 9-mm pistol with a magazine and five live rounds are recovered from them.

August 19: One hand grenade planted between two shops in the Wangoi Bazaar along the Mayai Lambi road is defused by the Police. Police suspect it was planted by the PULF militants as a part of their threat to the shopkeepers for refusing to meet their monetary demands. Shopkeepers reveal that the group had been pressurising the shopkeepers to pay INR 5000 each since a long time back.

August 16: Army personnel and Cachar district police arrested two Manipur based militants in two separate search operations at Silchar town and Banskandi village in Assam. They are identified as Sanjoy Singh, an UNLF cadre and Kamaruddin, a PULF cadre.

August 2: One woman, Ningthoujam Yaimabi, is injured when two PULF militants hurl a hand grenade in a crowded evening market at Mayang Imphal Konchak. The militants also open fire before fleeing. The PULF claims responsibility for both the incidents.

July 27: One militant of the M. I. Khan faction of the PULF, identified as Juma Khan, surrenders before the Deputy Inspector-General of the Border Security Force, G. K. Sharma, in the Thoubal district.

July 18: Two suspected PULF militants are shot dead by the troops during an encounter at Sangokpam village under Patsoi police station. One .32 revolver with two live rounds and a hand grenade were recovered from their possession.

July 12: Around 10 suspected PULF militants set ablaze the residence of Mohammed Ramijuddin, a surrendered cadre of the outfit, at Kyamgei Muslim Takhok Mapal.

July 8: One suspected PULF militant is shot dead by the Imphal East district police commandoes during an encounter at Keirao Laphupat.

July 8: Assam Rifles arrest one PULF cadre, Akif alias Sadam alias Michael, from Yambem under Yairipok police station in the Thoubal district.

One PULF cadre, Kaspur Azamal, is arrested by the Imphal East district police commandoes from Thambalkhong area.

July 6: One suspected PULF cadre is shot dead by Imphal East district police commandos during an encounter at Top Sangomsang along the Baruni road under Porompat police station. While another militant manages to escape, one 9-mm pistol with four live rounds of ammunitions is recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

Suspected PULF militants open fire at the residence of Zakir, secretary of a private school, at Lilong Dam Makhong under Lilong police station. Police believe the attack was related to an extortion demand on Zakir.

July 4: One cadre of the Umar Faruque faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Riyajuddin alias Amuba alias Hyder Ali, is arrested at New Checkon area in the Imphal East district.

June 3: One suspected cadre of the Omar Farooque faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Salimuddin, is killed by Thoubal district police commandos and Assam Rifles during a joint operation at Sekmaijin village under Kakching police station. A pistol with two live rounds of ammunition is recovered from the possession of the slain cadre.

July 2: Five cadres of different factions of the PULF surrender with arms and ammunition before Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh. They are identified as Mohammed Amu alias Tyab Ali, Mohammed Ramijuddin, and Mohammed Riyajuddin alias Ibai alais Rohid, Mohammed Hafizuddin alias Mohammed Alimuddin alias Inao and Loubuktongbam Mohammed Amu alias Boby.

June 30: One person, Mohammed Najimuddin, is shot at and injured by suspected PULF militants near a culvert at Mutum Phibou village under Mayang police station in the Imphal West district.

June 28: Police arrest one PULF cadre, Mohammed Nazir Ahamed alias Rajen, from Sora Bazaar in the Thoubal. He is involved in extraction of money from those driving vehicles on the Imphal-Moreh road.

June 28: Assam Rifles personnel arrest one PULF cadre, Rjik Khan, from Chesaba in the Thoubal district.

June 26: Two cadres of the Umar Farooq faction of the PULF, Mohammed Musha Ali alias Moosa and Mohammed Sher Khan alias SK Liang, surrender along with arms and ammunition before Assam Rifles at Thoubal.

June 20 : A combined team of the Imphal East district commandos and Assam Rifles personnel arrested two PULF cadres, Mohammed Hafizuddin and Mohammed Habib, in two separate search operations at Naharup Thongkhong and Kshetri Bengoon.

June 11 & 12: Four militants belonging to the Azad faction of the PULF, including one 'district commander' Altab Ali alias Sana, are killed when a combined force of Imphal East district police commandos and troops of Assam Rifles neutralise a hideout of the outfit at the foothills of Urup Kangthak village under Irilbung police station,. Three other slain militants are identified as Mohmmed Sadam, Mohammed Amubi alias Feroz Khan, and Mohammed Dilip. A G-3 rifle loaded with 13 live rounds, one 9-mm pistol with two live rounds, two lethod bombs and a 303 rifle with five live rounds are recovered from the slain militants. Meanwhile, nine militants manage to escape from the hideout.

June 11 : One suspected PULF cadre is killed and three others wounded by troops of Assam Rifles during another encounter at Lilong near Phunal Chinghtak Water Supply reservoir under Irilbung police station. While, one .303 rifle and haversack containing AK bullets are recovered, seven militants including the injured ones manage to escape from the incident site.

June 10 : Two hardware shops are damaged when suspected PULF militants open fire. According to police sources, attacks are linked to the monetary demands from the outfit on the two shops.

June 8: About 300 persons including shop owners protested against the heavy imposition of monetary demands on the local grocery shops at Wangoi bazar by the Azad faction of the PULF.

June 4: Assam Rifles arrest a PULF cadre, Mohammed Razauddin, during a search operation at Lilong Turel Ahanbi under Lilong Police station in the Thoubal district.

June 4: Troops of the Assam Rifles arrest one PULF militant, identified as 'No. 1205 Pvt'. Romeo Singh, from Sugnu Bazaar under Kakching Police station in the Thoubal district.

May 31: Assam Rifles personnel arrested three PULF cadres in the Yairipok-Thoubal area. Two hand grenades, a mobile phone and INR 3,970 were recovered from their possession. Later, one PLA cadre is arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel at a mobile check-post in the Wapokpi area of Thoubal district.

May 27: The residence of a former Legislator, Mohmmed Chaoba, at Yairpok in the Thoubal district was partially damaged when a bomb was exploded by suspected PULF militants. Another bomb is planted by the PULF militants same group at the shop of one, P. Pishak, in Yairpok Bazaar. However, it is later defused by the police next morning. The same outfit had seven days before placed a bomb at the shop for failing to pay a monetary demand served by it to the shop owners and shopkeepers of the Bazaar.

May 25: One suspected militant is shot dead by the security forces during an encounter at Meijrao under Irilbung police station in the Imphal East district. One 9-mm pistol loaded with four live rounds of ammunition and a letter head of the PULF outfit are recovered from his possession.

A bomb is planted by suspected PULF militants at a shop in Yairipok Keithel in the Thoubal district. The bomb is later defused by the Assam Rifles personnel.

May 23: The PULF claimed responsibility for the May 22 planting of a bomb in the shop of one P. Pishak at Yairipok Keithel Thongkhong. The outfit's publicity cell secretary Saroz Khan in press release states that the outfit asked Pishak for some financial help earlier. He accused Pishak of not fulfilling the group's demand and acting against the party in connivance with security forces. He threatened to punish Pishak and his family incase of his failure to pay heed to the warning.

May 17: One woman cadre of the PULF, identified as R.K. Nandarani, is arrested from Palace Gate near AIR Imphal. Several identity cards of different Self-Help Groups are recovered from her.

May 16: Two PULF cadres, Nongmaithem Leirenjao alias Naba and his wife Nongmaithemongbi Romashakhi alias Nirmala, are arrested by the Imphal East district police from Lamlong Bazaar. One demand letter of the PULF addressed to the Director of Manipur State AIDS Control Society is recovered from their possession.

May 5: Telegraph reports that the Bangladesh based HUJI outfit is trying to resuscitate the PULF in Manipur.

April 30: One suspected PULF militant, Mohammed Sakin alias Amu, is shot dead by the Bishnupur district police during an encounter at Ngarian Chingkhong along Old Cachar Road. One locally-made pistol and six rounds of ammunition are recovered from his possession.

April 29: One PULF militant, Mohammed Ibo alias Rafi, is arrested from Keirao Makting in the Imphal East district. He confessed of having joined the outfit through one Amu of the PULF.

April 29 : The Superintendent of Police of Thoubal district, Clay Khongsai, stated that three persons, including one woman, were arrested in connection with the recent killing of two women, P.S. Snowy and L. Esther Anal. They were identified as Mohmmeds Mabosana, Majida and Mohammed Tajuddin. Mabosana and Tajuddin belonged to the MI faction of the PULF. The Superintendent of Police further mentions that two other main accused were identified, but were yet to be arrested.

April 28: Guwahati Police arrested Kazi Omar Farooq, ‘chairman’ of the PULF, from a rented house at Sasal area. The arrest followed the earlier detention of three PULF cadres from a rented accommodation in Dispur. Additional Superintendent of Police Debojit Deuri said, "During the interrogation of the three PULF cadres on Sunday, our team raided a house in Chasal and could nab Farooq today." Kazi had been hiding in the city for a long time, he added.

April 27: A combined team of Manipur and Karnataka Police arrests six PULF militants from a hotel at Mysore in Karnataka. They were identified as ‘general secretary’ Mohammed Ibrahim alias Qusi alias M.I. Khan, ‘secretary external affairs and chief of army’ Mohammed Nurjaman alias Deny, ‘organisation-cum-publicity-secretary’ Mohammed Abdul Jabbar alias Belal Khan, ‘deputy commander in-chief-cum-finance secretary’ Mohammed Nasir Khan alias Thadoi alias Keshorjit alias Boy, ‘private’ Mohammed Mustafa and ‘private’ Mohammed Nur Safi. Four mobile phones and incriminating documents are recovered from them.

Three PULF militants, identified as Mohammad Zakria Khan, Mohammad Altaf and Firoze Khan, are arrested from the Dispur area in Assam.

April 18: Assam Rifles personnel shot dead two suspected militants of the Azad faction of the PULF, Mohammed Mustafa and Mohammed Tomba, during an encounter at Yairipok Tulihal in the Thoubal district. A modified carbine, a pistol with 12 live rounds of ammunition and a mobile phone are recovered from the duo.

April 16: One PULF militant, Mohammed Islaoddin alias Ashique, is arrested during a joint search operation by Manipur Police and Assam Rifles from Lamlong area in the Imphal East district. Police recovered a demand letter of the PULF form him. Islaoddin confessed that that he joined the outfit in September 2006 through Umor Farooq of the PULF and was now engaged in extortion of money from Government officials, businessmen and shopkeepers.

April 15: Two PULF cadres, Mohammed Hibjur Rahaman alias Epoy and Mohammed Sherkhan alias Khan, are arrested from Sangaiyumpham in the Thoubal district. Two demand letters of the outfit signed by ‘assistant secretary’, S. M Rahaman, are recovered from them. They were accused of being engaged in collection of money from the general public and Government officials and in the collection of information about the movement of security forces and in providing shelter to PULF cadres.

April 14: Imphal East district police arrested one PULF militant, identified as Mohammed Naurul Islam alias Mohammed Tonfique Ahamad, from Hatta. Three demand/extortion letters of the outfit, one identity card of the Public Works Department and one photocopy of ‘Quit Notice of PULF’ addressed to a family are recovered from his possession.

One PULF cadre, Mohammed Waris of Yairipok Tulihal, is arrested by SF personnel from Tulihal.

April 13: One PULF cadre, Mohammed Ayub Ali, is arrested by the SFs from Lamlong Bazaar.

April 12: Two PULF cadres, Mohammed Rezvi Akbar alias Nanaobi and Mohammed Aboton alias Iboton, are arrested by the SFs.

April 8: One ‘project officer-cum-finance secretary’ of the Farooq faction of the PULF, identified as Zia-Ul-Haque alias Mustakim, surrenders before G.S. Gill, Deputy Inspector General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) of Manipur and Nagaland, in Kotland along the Imphal-Jiribam section of the National Highway-53. He deposited a 9- mm pistol with magazine loaded with five live rounds during his surrender.

April 5: One PULF cadre, Mohammed Haider Hussain, is arrested from Kshetrigao in the Imphal East district.

March 30: A bomb explodes at the residence of the Chief Engineer of the Minor Irrigation Department, Abdul Haque, at Kshetri Bengoon under Porompat police station in the Imphal East district. Police suspect the bomb was hurled by PULF militants in connection with the outfit's recent warning to 'surrender' before the group.

Two PULF militants, Toijam Sonamani Meitei and Khumbongmayum Nando Singh alias Narayan Singh, are arrested from Soibam Leikai in the Imphal East district. An extortion note of the outfit addressed to the Public Hospital signed by secretary finance of the outfit is also seized from his possession.

March 28: One woman, Sherabhanu, is shot dead by militants at Keirao Litan in the Imphal East district. She is the wife of Mohammed Naship, younger brother of M. I. Khan, a leader of a faction of the PULF. Later, the PULF claimed responsibility for killing Sherabhanu for her alleged role as an informer of the security forces.

March 27: One suspected PULF militant, identified as Mohammed Nishimuddin, is shot dead by police personnel during an encounter at Naharup Pangong Makhong in the Imphal East district. While one .38 revolver is recovered, two other militants managed to escape from the encounter site.

March 14: Three suspected militants of the Umar Farooq faction of the PULF abducted an assistant engineer of the minor irrigation department, identified as Pungjumbam Lalji Singh, from his house at Canchipur Heinoumakhong under Singjamei police station in the Imphal West district. The militants demanded a heavy monetary demand for the safe release of the engineer.

One ‘sergeant’ of PULF (Azad faction), identified as Mohammed Ebomcha, is arrested with a 9-mm pistol having five live rounds.

March 11: One PULF militant, identified as Majida Begum, is arrested from an area near the Indigo Blue Hill counter in North AOC. Imphal West district’s Senior Superintendent of Police L Kailun informed that Majida was assigned to collect money from the general public by the PULF.

Security forces arrested one PULF militant, identified as Mohammed Sharif Khan alias Mohammed Abo, in the general area of Irengband in the Thoubal district. One 9-mm gun (US made), a magazine and 10 live rounds of ammunition are also recovered from the militant.

The Army and the Manipur Police arrested four militants of the PULF, PLA and KYKL during separate raids in the Imphal West district.

March 9: One suspected PULF cadre, Nongyaimayum Renziz, is shot dead by the Imphal East district police during a counter-insurgency operation at Kshetri Bengoon Awang Leikai under Porompat police station. One .32 pistol, two magazines with five live rounds, one 9-mm round, a mobile phone handset, three strips of Dexamethasone tablets and one driving licence registered in the name of one Mohammed Fazal Ali are recovered from the possession of the slain militant. Police say that Renziz was involved in the bomb attack at the Tuks and Bon fuel pump located in Hatta and many other similar cases.

He confesses that he joined the outfit in March 2007 through one Mohammmed Khalique of Yairipok Ningthounai and was operating in the 'finance section' of the PULF.

February 28: The PULF asks six government employees to 'surrender' within five days, for their alleged involvement in siphoning off a huge amount of flood relief fund meant for families affected by devastation during the natural calamity of 2003-04 in the Thoubal district. They are identified as K. Gopal Kabui, N. Surjit Singh, S. Budha Singh, Th. Dembarjit and Mohammed Abdul Samad.

February 27: The 'publicity cell' of the PULF claims responsibility for the February 2 killing of Mohammed Talibur and February 25 killing Mohammmed Hussain Ahmed and Mohammed Ithem.

February 26: Manipur Police arrested the 'information and publicity secretary' of the Umar Farooque faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Abdul Jabar alias Belal Khan, from Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai in the Thoubal district. One self signed letter titled 'suspension of opera-tion gee agreement leite' is recovered from his possession. He confesses that he took over the charge of information and publicity secretary in October 2007 and he is responsible for issuing press note for the Umar Farooque faction.

February 25: Two youths, Mohammed Ahmad Hussain and Mohammed Ethem, are shot dead by suspected PULF militants at the foothills of Ngarian hill under Yairipok police station in the Thoubal district.

February 21: One PULF cadre, Mohammad Alif Khan alias Calvin, is shot dead by Manipur Police during an encounter near the gate of Universal College at Thoubal Wangkhem under Yairipok police station in the Thoubal district. One Chinese made hand-grenade, 20 empty cases of 9-mm and 10 empty case of AK ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.

February 19: One cadre of the Farooque faction of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Afjal Khan, is arrested by police personnel during a search operation at Leirak in the Imphal East district

February 16: Two PULF militants, Mohammed Firoz alias Yaras and Mohammed Ataf Ali alias Kora, were arrested during two separate search operations at Hatta Golapati area and Kshetri Awang Leikai in the Imphal East district. One 9-mm pistol loaded with live rounds of ammunition was recovered from Kora's possession. He joined the PULF in 2008 through one Mohammed Faleir and was at the time of arrest operating under the 'command' of 's/s army chief' Mohammed Zakir.

February 8: Security forces arrested three PULF activists, identified as Md, Julfiker Ali alias Nawaz, Md. Ali Hussain alias Yakir and Md. Abdul Rajak, at Kwakeithel in the Imphal West district.

February 7: A militant belonging to the PULF was shot dead by security forces at Thambalkhong in Imphal East district. A nine mm pistol and three rounds of ammunition along with copies of letters demanding extortion money were recovered from them.

January 28: An assistant engineer of the Thoubal Division of the Public Works Department (PWD), identified as Menjor, was abducted by the PULF militants at Ushoipokpi area when he was returning from the head office at Khoyathong. His wife, Sorokhaibam Neera, said, "The party has clearly stated that there is no personal enmity with my husband and that he was abducted to get some of their demands fulfilled. He is being used as a scapegoat. I appeal to the party to release him safe and sound on humanitarian ground." Meanwhile, the PULF said that Menjor would be released upon fulfilment three conditions - PWD chief engineer Rashtrapati, who is ignoring the negotiations with the outfit should surrender, or those officers who siphoned off the funds collected in the name of the outfit into their pockets should surrender, or the agreement reached with the outfit should be put into work. The outfit threatened that if any one out of these three conditions is not fulfilled till 4pm of February 1, chief engineer would collect Menjor`s dead body.

January 28: Two PULF militants, Mohmmed Sajid and Mohammed Samirkhan, are arrested during a search operation in the Imphal West district. They were working with the 'finance section' of the PULF. One extortion note relating to the PULF outfit is recovered from them.

January 17: One PULF militant, Mohammed Amir Shah, is arrested during a search operation in the general area of Kshetri Leikai in the Thoubal district. Four live rounds of M-16 pistol, a bank draft for INR 40,000, one Tele diary, one ATM card, and a driving license are recovered from him.

January 16: PULF militants hurl a hand grenade and later open fire at the residence of the President of Zilla Parishad (District Council) in the Thoubal district in connection with a monetary demand. While the residence is partially damaged, no casualty is reported. This is the second time his house was attacked by suspected militants.

January 10: One PULF cadre, Manowar Ali alias Naha, is arrested from Tulihal under Yairipok police station in the Thoubal district.

January 2: A boy, Mohammed Fakiruddin, is killed and his father, Mohammed Maniruddin, is wounded when suspected PULF militants opened fire at their residence at Sekmaijin Khunou under Mayang Imphal police station in the Imphal West district.

December 26: Two suspected PULF militants belonging to the Umar Farooq faction, identified as Mohammed Izu Khan and Mohammed Raju Khan, are killed by a rival faction during a clash atop the hill of Changamdabi Sagol Lou Khabei Leikai under Yairipok police station in the Thoubal district.

One PULF cadre, Mohammed Irshad Ali, is arrested from Kiyamgei Mayai Leikai in the Imphal East district.

December 24: One PULF cadre, Ahmad Shah, was arrested during a search operation at Lilong area in the Thoubal district. Three demand letters and a diary of PUFL were recovered from them.

December 17: Two PULF militants are killed and another injured during a factional clash at Sora Mamang Ching in the Thoubal district. Police suspect the slain militants belong to the Farooq faction of the PULF.

December 13: A grenade is hurled by suspected PULF militants at the courtyard of a person, Mohammed Bashir Ahmad, at Lilong Bazaar near the Lilong Higher Secondary Madrassa in the Thoubal district.

December 10: Two suspected PULF militants, Abdul Latif alias Sherkhan and Nazir Ahmed alias Taekwondo, are arrested from Burma Camp in the Dimapur district. A huge cache of arms and explosives, extortion notes issued by the 'finance cell' of the outfit to different establishment and INR 36, 620 in the denomination of INR 1000 and INR 500 are recovered from their possession. According to police sources, the seizure includes one country made revolver with two rounds of ammunition, two rounds of ammunition of 0.22, 5 rounds of ammunitions of AK-47, a Chinese made grenade, 105 rounds of 9mm ball (KF.23-07-05, two letters of extortion notice issued by PULF finance cell that was signed by one Raj. They were arrested while transporting arms and explosives to Manipur.

December 6: The PULF imposes a ‘ban’ on Muslim girls wearing tunics and skirts to schools and colleges from Class I and above from the next academic session in Manipur. The outfit asks them to wear either the phanek (long skirt) or salwar covering the ankles and being sanctioned by Islamic law. Belal Khan, the ‘information and publicity secretary’ of the outfit, said "If one knows and preserves his own culture and identity, he or she would also honour and regard the culture and identity of other communities. This will help forge the unity of people in the state."

December 2: One cloth merchant, Yusub Ali, who was abducted and kept in captivity by suspected PULF militants since November 19, is shot dead at Sora Ningthibi Khun under Kakching police station in the Thoubal district.

November 30: Two suspected PULF militants are shot dead by Manipur Police during an encounter at Kiyamgei Takhok Mapal under Iribung police station in the Imphal East district. One AK-56 rifles with magazine loaded with six live rounds and eight empty cartridges and a 9 mm pistol with magazine loaded with two live rounds are recovered from the encounter site.

November 25: Two youths, Mohammed Inao alias Ipikpi and Mohammed Abdul Ali, are abducted and later shot dead by suspected PULF militants at Takhok Mapal under Irilbung police station in the Imphal East district.

November 22: Two PULF cadres, Mohammed Lalyak Alli alias Mangi and Mohammed Khamba alias Usul, are arrested at Kiyamgei Mayai Leikai in the Imphal East district.

One PULF militant belonging to the Umar Farooque faction, identified as Mohammed Islam alias Ithemcha alias Zia-Ul-Haq, is wounded by militants of the rival Azad faction during a clash at Sora Karati Mayai Leikai under Kakching police station in the Thoubal District.

November 9: One PULF cadre, Mohammed Amjad Khan alias Ingocha, is arrested from Hatta Golapati in the Imphal East district.

November 1: A grenade which is hurled at the residence of Mohammed Aziz, Additional Chief Engineer of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, at Khergao Kheikhu in capital Imphal fails to explode. The attack at the house of Aziz is later claimed by the PULF.

October 30: An auto rickshaw belonging to a person, Sapam Ongbi Tamphasana, is set ablaze by the PULF militants near Lilong Bridge under Singjamei police station. The vehicle was hijacked by three militants from Chajing Parking two days before in connection with an extortion note worth INR 10,000 served earlier. One of the three militants involved in the hijacking, identified as Mohammed Abdul Majid alias Ithem, is later arrested by the police. Members of Emoinu Diesel Auto Owners Co-operative Society Limited protest against the incident by taking out an auto rickshaw rally from Palace Compound in the capital Imphal.

October 28: Two women, Aisha Bibi and Shouda Bibi, are wounded when police open fire to disperse people who prevent them from arresting two suspected PULF militants, Md. Ali Akbar and Md. Zakir, from Yairipok in the Thoubal district.

October 18: Three PULF cadres, Md. Yahir Ahamed, Md. Hidayat and Md. Rafi, are arrested from Poiroukhong area in the Thoubal district.

October 17: Three militants belonging to the Azad faction of the PULF, 'deputy home secretary' Abdul Karim alias Lalboy, 'private' Zahir Khan alias Jiribam alias Khan and 'private' Syed Khan alias Henry, are shot dead by security force (SF) personnel during an encounter at Serou Minou hillock under Tengnoupal police station in the Chandel district. One AK-47 Rifle with magazine, 18 live rounds of ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade, one Single Bore Shot Gun (Country made), two cartridge of Single Bore Shot Gun and two pouches are recovered from the encounter site.

October 6: Two suspected PULF cadres of the Farooq faction, Belan Khan and Iqbal, are shot dead by SF personnel during a counter-insurgency operation at Wakha Eco park in the Imphal East district. An AK rifle and one 9-mm pistol are recovered from the slain possession of the slain militants.

October 5: Two PULF militants, Mohammed Nawaz Khan alias Wangma and Mohammed Atao Rahman alias Apikpa, of the Umar Farooq faction are shot dead by unidentified militants during a factional clash at Iiram Siphai in the Imphal West district. While no faction claims responsibility, police suspect the involvement of the Azad faction of the PULF in the killings. Nawaz, the finance secretary of the faction, and his accomplice Atao are killed after being abducted by militants of a rival faction.

October 1: A bomb is lobbed by suspected PULF militants on the residence of a person, Mohammed Abdul Gani, at Kshetri Bengool Mayai Leikai. No casualty is reported.

September 16: A senior cadre of the PULF, identified as Amir Khan, is shot dead during a counter insurgency operation at Lai Minao Ching area in the Chandel district. One AK-56 rifle with magazine and 11 live rounds of ammunition are recovered from the incident site.

September 16: Two women cadres of the PULF - Farooq faction, identified as Souda Begum Alias Sansut, wife of Islamuudin General Secretary and Sana Begum, are arrested from Imphal Airport while trying to fly to New Delhi in an Indian Airlines flight.

September 13: A suspected PULF cadre, Mohammed. Razaq Khan alias Khajing, is killed by security force personnel in a counter-insurgency operation at Leihaokhong Maru under Lilong police station in the Imphal East district. One 9-mm pistol is recovered from his possession.

September 13: One woman cadre of the PULF, Jina Begum alias Kabok, is arrested during a search operation at an unspecified place in the Imphal East district. Kabok is the wife of Mohammed Azizur, the self styled 'home-cum-finance secretary' of the PULF.

September 5: A PULF cadre belonging to the Farooque faction, identified as Taja-uddin Ali alias Taj, is arrested by security force personnel during a search operation at Lilong bazar in the Thoubal district.

September 4: Three militants belonging to the Farooq faction of the PULF, including its 'commander' Mohammed Yusub Ali alias Ibocha, are shot dead by security force personnel in an encounter at the foothill of Keirao in the Imphal East district. The other two are identified as Mohammed Akbar alias Firoz and Mohammed Sana. One AK 56 and one AK 47 rifle with a magazine each and 28 live rounds of AK rifle, one 9-mm (Beretta) pistol with magazine and one vehicle were recovered from the encounter site.

September 1: PULF claims responsibility for opening fire at the residences of three persons, Mohammed Islamuddin, Mohammed Jalanuddin and Mohammed Mustaque, at Lilong Yangbi Leikai, Lilong Leihaokhong and Lilong Turel Ahanbi Haoreibi in the Thoubal district. The outfit states that the attack is carried out as a warning to stop them from drug dealings. It also asks all three to 'surrender' within 10 days and warns that 'capital punishment' will be 'awarded' if they fail to do so.

August 31: One PULF militant, Mohammed Abdul Nabi, is arrested from Sorah in the Imphal East district area. One .32 pistol is recovered from his possession.

August 20: Two PULF cadres, Mohammed Salim alias Salimuddin and Mohammed Moinam alias Mismilla Khan alias Prom, are arrested by Imphal East district police in two separate search operations at Hatta Golapati area.

August 11: Assam Rifles personnel shot dead three unidentified militants belonging to the KYKL and PULF at Tingri under Sekmai police station in the Thoubal district. Two 9-mm pistols along with four rounds of ammunition and one 7.56 mm Italian-make pistol along with seven live rounds, one Chinese-make grenade and three extortion notes duly signed by the finance department of KYKL were recovered from the incident site.

August 9: Three militants belonging to UNLF, KYKL and PULF, surrendered to the police in a surrender ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. One AK rifle with seven live rounds, loaded modified magazine, two Chinese-made 9 mm pistols with 27 live rounds were deposited by the militants.

July 29: SF personnel arrested a PULF cadre, Mohammad Shikander Ali, at Lilong Turel Ahanbi from the Thoubal district. They also arrested another PULF cadre, identified as 'Sgt. Maj.' Amjad Ali, at Bengun area in the Imphal East district.

July 21: Police arrested a PULF cadre, identified as Mohammad Arshad, at Haoreibi Makha Leikai in the Imphal West district.

July 20: In a counter-insurgency operation, SFs shot dead a PULF militant, identified as Mohammad Nizamuddin, at Yairipok Chagamdabi under Yairipok police station in the Thoubal district. SFs also recovered one 9-mm Belgian-make pistol along with two magazines loaded with 10 live rounds of ammunition from the incident site.

July 17: On the basis of revelations made by arrested PULF cadres, police seized a huge consignment of arms and ammunition, including one M-79 (40-mm) grenade launcher gun, five Chinese-make hand grenades, 16 numbers of .38 rounds, 140 rounds of AK bullets and one 36 high explosive grenade along with 31 blank demand letters of the PULF and two rubber seals from two trucks during a search at Mantripukhri under Heingang police station in the Imphal East district. The drivers of two trucks, Mohammad Manowar Ali and Mohammad Edrish Ali, were arrested.

July 16: Police arrested an unidentified PULF cadre at his residence in the Yaripok area of Thoubal district. Police also seized two 9-mm pistols, one of Bulgarian make with a magazine, 11 camouflaged uniform trousers, camouflaged waist coat and demand letters.

July 11: Two suspected PULF cadres, identified as Mohammed Ibocha and Mohammed Jakhir, shot at and injured a youth, identified as Mohammed Tamijuddin, and took away INR 20,000 in cash from his possession at Hatta Golapati in the Imphal East district.

June 20: Assam Rifles personnel arrested two PULF cadres, as Fazal Ali and Mohammedd Akbar Khan, at Kyamgei Mayai Leikai in the Imphal East District.

June 7: SFs arrested four PULF cadres, Mohammed Salatur Rahaman, Mohammed Kalam alias Rajaque, Mohammed Ukil alias Sanayai and Mohammed Nasir Khan alias Nahamcha, at Lilong Yangbi Leikai in the Thoubal district.

Troops of the Maratha Light Infantry arrested two PULF cadres, identified as Chesam Abbas and Zakir Koktamayum, in the Imphal West district and recovered one Beratta 9-mm Pistol and five rounds of ammunition from their procession.

June 2: A youth is shot dead by suspected PULF cadres near the jeep parking at Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai in the Imphal East district. The youth was subsequently identified as Zahir Khan from Laphupat Tera.

June 1: Assam Rifles personnel shot dead a suspected cadre of the PULF, identified as Mohammed Jakir, and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with ammunition at Lilong Arapti Lamkhai in the Imphal East district.

May 29: The INF has merged with the PULF with the INF 'chairman' identified as Md. Raffisuddin and several of his fellow cadres formally joining the PULF in the Imphal East district. PULF 'general secretary' Kaji Ibrahim also disclosed that Raffisuddin has been given the post of 'home secretary' of the PULF outfit.

May 21: A PULF cadre, identified as Mohammed Belan Khan, said that Parvez Alam is appointed as the 'finance secretary' and A.E. Quresh as 'assistant publicity secretary' of the outfit with immediate effect.

May 19: Suspected PULF cadres fired around 15 rounds towards the house of a civilian, identified as Mohammed Siraj Ahmad, at Keirao Makting Mayai Leikai in the Imphal East district. However, no causalities were reported.

Police arrested a PULF cadre, identified as Mohammed Helan alias Abo, at MG Avenue in the Imphal West district.

May 14: Police personnel arrested a PULF cadre, identified as Mohammed Sikandar Ali alias Kakmu alias Kukin, at Lilong Chajing Bazaar in the Imphal West district. April 21: A youth, identified as Mohammmed Ithem alias Ningthem alias Imdadur, is shot dead by the PULF militants at Moijing Meena Bazaar in the Thoubal district.

April 14: Troops of the Rajputana Rifles arrested three PULF cadres, Manir Khan, Sujan Das and Seichan Hmar, and recovered one single barrel gun, one double barrel gun, one country-made pistol along with one live round and 12 cartridges from their possession at Butangkhal. Police said they were arrested on the charges of extortion from a bamboo laden truck.

April 11: Three PULF cadres, Nasir Khan alias Nawab, Abdul Noor alias Danish and Abdul Razzak, were arrested from different areas of Guwahati in the Kamrup district.

March 19: PULF 'chairman', identified as Umar Farooq, and his accomplices, MI Khan and Chandro alias Kishor-ejit, are expelled from the outfit for their anti-party activities, claimed Foiba the 'commander' of PULF's AK, BK and SK battalions, at a place in the Thoubal district.

February 25: A 'chief project officer' of the PULF, identified as Md. Boynao alias Puleiromba was shot dead by an unidentified militant at City Hotel in the Dimapur district.

February 3: At least three PULF militants, including the outfits' 'finance secretary', identified as Jasmin alias Sony, were arrested by the Nagaland Police during a search operation at Platform Number 1 of Dimapur railway station. The Police also recovered INR 3910 and two mobiles Handset from the arrested militants.

January 29: An encounter between Thoubal police commandos and suspected militants were reported from Wangjing bazaar in the Thoubal district. The encounter followed the arrest of a People’s United Liberation Front (PULF) militant, identified as Thokchom Bijen Singh alias Maijao. One van and a motor cycle were recovered from the arrested militant.

January 27: An unidentified militant shot dead four suspected PULF militants, including Mohammed Amir Khan, the ‘fighting commander’ of the outfit, at Salungpham Chingkhong in the Thoubal district.

January 19: A suspected PULF militant is shot dead by Imphal East police commandos during a counter-insurgency operation at Wakha under Porompat police station. One 9-mm pistol along with a magazine with two live rounds was recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

January 16: SFs arrested two PULF militants, ‘project officer’ Md. Juber Ali alias Chingkhuba and Md. Rafique, during a search operation at Kiyamgei Awang Leikai. One AK-47 Rifle, one magazine and 10 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the possession of Juber.

January 14: The Imphal East police commandos arrested a People’s United Liberation Front militant, identified as Md. Rajiv alias Lucky, during a search operation at Thambalkhong Sabal Leikai in the Imphal East district.

January 5: Two People's United Liberation Front (PULF) militants, identified as Mohammed Aziz Khan and Mohammed Azimuddin, are arrested during a search operation at Hatta Golapati in the Imphal East district. A demand letter signed by Mustafa, the outfits 'finance secretary', one Maruti van and INR 35,000 were recovered from their possession.

2006

December 29: A suspected People's United Liberation Front (PULF) militant shot at and wounded a civilian, Moirangthem Meghachandra, at an unspecified place in the Imphal West district over his refusal to hand over a bike to the militant.

December 20: The three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, who were arrested by the Delhi Police on December 19 near the Red Fort in the national capital, came from Manipur. The police claimed to have recovered two kilograms of RDX, a hand grenade and two detonators from the arrested persons, who were allegedly planning to carry out bomb blasts at crowded market places in Delhi. The Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police (Special Cell), Karnal Singh, informed that this is the first time that the LeT has been found to have links in Manipur. He also said that a lead into the activities of the module was provided by two Bangladeshi nationals, who were arrested in the Capital on October 16, 2004 with plastic explosives. During interrogation, one of the three arrested militants, Salman Khurshid Kori, said that he was sent to Pakistan occupied Kashmir for training in 2001 and had recruited few persons for the purpose. He also claimed to have mediated between the Manipur-based Islamist outfit, the People's United Liberation Front (PULF), and LeT militants based in Bangladesh.

December 15: SF personnel seized the vehicle of Rural Development Minister, Mohammed Allauddin, in which the PULF cadres transported blankets and store items from the minister's house on December 14. Though the minister denied the charge, one of the arrested militants, Habibur Rahman, reportedly told the SF personnel that the blankets were lifted from the minister's house.

December 14: Security force personnel arrested six PULF militants along with 20 blankets and other store items at Thoubal. The report added that the blanket and store items were brought from the house of an unidentified minister in the capital Imphal.

December 11: A civilian, Mohammed Belal alias Abdul Gani, was shot at and wounded on charges of peddling drugs by the PULF cadres in Imphal. Six persons, alleged to be involved in drug trade were also asked by the outfit to surrender. The outfit threatened to award 'capital punishment' in case its orders are not complied with.

December 10: PULF, in a statement, accused a civilian, Mohammed Mangi alias Tamijur, of being a police informer and claimed to have opened fire targeting his house at Keikhu Mayai Leikai in the Imphal East district. The statement further said that Mangi would be awarded 'capital punishment' if he continues with his activities.

November 22: Security forces (SFs) arrest a 'sergeant Major' of the People's United Liberation Front, Mohammed Apikpa alias Apik alias Sajitkhan, near the office gate of Family Welfare Department at Lamphel in the Imphal West district.

November 13: SF personnel recover a RPG and a 303 rifle during a search operation near a lake at Kyamgei Pal Ahanbi in the Imphal West district. The seizure was made following the confession of two PULF militants arrested from Tulihal Airport on November 10.

November 10: Two cadres of the PULF, 'lieutenant' Mohammed Waris Khan alias Wagi, the 'deputy finance secretary' and '2nd lieutenant' Mohammed Illiaz Khan, were arrested at Tulihal Airport in the Imphal West district.

November 4: A political activist belonging to the Nationalist Congress Party, Md. Amutombi Gogimayum, was shot dead by suspected PULF militants at Mayang Imphal in the Imphal West district. One motorcycle and three live rounds of .32 ammunitions were recovered from the incident site.

October 9: A former cadre of the PULF, Mohammed Azad Khan, is shot dead by some unidentified gunmen at Koijam village under Kakching police station in the Imphal East district.

August 11: PULF cadres kill a 35-year old man, identified as Adin, at Urup Kangthak in the Thoubal district allegedly for misusing the name of the outfit.

July 19: A PULF cadre, Mohammad Abo alias Sarifkhan, is arrested from New Checkon in the Imphal city.

July 16: SFs arrest three PULF cadres, Mohammad Majiboor Rehaman, Mohammad Aktar Khan and Mohammad Ziao Rehaman, from Masjid Road in Imphal city.

July 8: A PULF cadre, Mohammad Amu alias Tayeb Ali, is arrested during a search operation at Keirao Mayai Leikai in the Imphal East district.

June 23: Two PULF cadres are killed in an encounter with the Manipur Police at Lilong Chingkham under Lilong police station limits in the Thoubal district. Three AK series rifles, five magazines and some quantity of ammunition are recovered from the incident site.

June 21: Two PULF cadres, Mohammad Tomba and Mohammad Abdul Kadir, are arrested from Hatta and Paona Bazaar respectively in the Imphal city.

June 17: Internal feud among the cadres of the PULF claim the lives of two of its cadres, Mohammad Ekramudin alias Boy and Mohammad Iqbal, at Abeng village in the Tamenglong district.

June 5: One PULF cadre, Mohammad Rajauddin alias Ningthoubi alias Ayub, is arrested from Keirao Mayai Leikai in the Imphal East district.

May 20: A PULF cadre, Mohammad Apikcha alias Bony is arrested along with one Italy made 9mm pistol from Kiyamgei area in the capital Imphal.

May 14: A PULF cadre, Mohammad Ithemcha is arrested from Soura Awang Leikai in the Thoubal district along with five live rounds of 7.62 mm LMG.

May 11: Assam Rifles personnel kill the PULF ‘Commander-in-Chief’ Bashir Lashkar alias Muthi alias Moti along with his ‘deputy home secretary’ Mohammad Shafi alias Rami in an encounter at Kakmayai under Yairipok police station limits in the Thoubal district. Two 9mm pistol, with 12 live rounds, one Chinese head gear, two mobile phones, one calculator, some incriminating documents along with extortion notes, Rupees 6,500 in cash and one vehicle used by the duo are recovered from the incident site.

May 8: A combined team of the Manipur Police and Assam Rifles kill two suspected PULF cadres in an encounter at Sora Mamangching under Kakching police station limits in the Thoubal district. One AK-56 rifles, one M-16 rifles and two pistols along with live ammunitions are recovered from the incident site.

May 7: Suspected PULF militants attack the private residence of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker, Maniruddin Sheikh, at Lilong under Lilong police station limits in the Thoubal district. However, there are no reports of casualty.

April 27: Two PULF cadres, Maulan Mujibar Rahman and Sharif Khan alias Abo, are arrested from Soura in the Thoubal district.

March 11: Two PULF cadres, including its main ‘finance collector’ disguising himself as a rickshaw puller and the other identified as Mohammed Hassan, were killed while extorting money from civilians by the Imphal East district police personnel at Hatta Golapati under Porompat police station.

January 2: Two civilians were killed by suspected PULF cadres at Ukhongsang and Yairipok Malom under Yairipok police station in the Thoubal district.

2005

September 20: PULF claimed responsibility for killing a youth, identified as Najib Ali, near Wangkhem Junior High School under Yairipok police station in the Thoubal district, for selling drugs.

September 20: PULF claimed responsibility for killing 29 year old Mohammad Habibur near his Singda Makha Leikai residence under Yairipok police station in Thoubal district, for allegedly working for the army.

June 23: Three PULF cadres belonging to the ‘finance section’ of the outfit were arrested during a cordon and search operation by the security forces at Langol Khunjao and Khunnou villages of the Thoubal district.

June 7: Three PULF cadres, identified as Mohammed Aziz Khan, Mohammed Akbar Khan and Mohammed Abdul Gafar, were arrested from different places in the Thoubal district.

April 10: Suspected PULF cadres threw a hand grenade at the residence of Mohammed Soleiman, an inspector with the vehicle department, at Thoubal Moijing.

March 16: PULF terrorists carried out two bomb attacks on two houses in the Irong Makha Leikai area of Imphal city.

March 9: PULF asked five teachers and staff working in the DI Office Lilong in Thoubal district to ‘surrender’ to the outfit within 20 days or be ready to face the consequences on charges of corruption.

February 28: PULF, in a statement, claimed that two drug peddlers have surrendered to the outfit.

February 25: PULF terrorists attacked a passenger bus at Sora for having ‘violated’ the outfit’s orders of suspending vehicular movement along the Imphal-Moreh route. Consequently, transporters suspend services along the route in protest against the attack.

January 15: Two suspected terrorists of the PULF were killed during an encounter with the police at Keirao Makting Ingkhol Leirak in the Imphal East district.

2004

December 12: Cadres of the PULF killed an auditor of the Auditor General office-Imphal branch at Kyamgei Oinam Loukol in the capital Imphal for his refusal to pay up Rupees 5 lakhs.

December 10: The PULF ‘banned’ the consumption of alcohol among Muslims in Manipur.

2003

May 5: Three hostages, abducted on April 26 by PULF terrorists from the Pallel area of Chandel district, escape from captivity.

2001

June 7: Five persons, including four Bihari traders, are killed by the PULF at Kakching in the Thoubal district.

1999

July 22: Four PULF militants, Mohammed Saifu Islam, Mohammed Akbar Ali, Zehirul Islam and Hazarat Ali, belonging to the Howly area of Barpeta district in Assam were arrested by Assam Police in Barpeta district.

1998

February 14: Three PULF cadres were arrested from different parts of Manipur.
