February 28

Manipur Chief Minister R.K. Dorendra Singh announces that the Army would not be deployed in the valley areas of the State and the Manipur Police with the assistance of Central Reserve Police Force will conduct combing operations in the valley, if necessary.

March 26

National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) cadres loot several bus passengers and ambush a security escort killing three Manipur Rifles personnel.

April 15

Kuki National Army (KNA) militants kill four Nagas, including a 4-year-old boy, and set ablaze their houses in the Parouland and Kutal Khunthak villages of Chandel district.

April 18

Suspected Naga militants kill six Kuki tribals and set ablaze the Sita Kuki village under Tengnoupal police station limits in Chandel district.

April 18

A militant organization, Ereipak Kanba Lup (Save Manipur Organization), warns candidates in the forthcoming general elections against distributing money to the electorate to get their votes.

April 20

11 persons, including five children and a Kuki militant, are killed and 41 houses set ablaze by suspected NSCN-IM militants in an attack on the Bongali village in Chandel district.

April 21

The Kotang Kuki village in Ukhrul district is burnt to ashes by suspected NSCN-IM militants.

Manipur Government seeks help of the Army in bringing back peace in the State.

June 29

34 persons, including 26 Army personnel, are killed during an ambush by NSCN-IM militants in the Tengnoupal area of Chandel district. Militants also decamp with three LMGs, five self-loading rifles, seven carbines and two wireless set.

Three persons are killed and another is wounded in an attack by unidentified gunmen at Tinsid Road under Lamlai police station limits in the Imphal East district.

July 4

Seven persons are killed during insurgency-related violence in the valley areas of Manipur.

July 12

Legislators O. Joy Singh (Manipur People’s Party) and Ph.Parijat Singh of the Communist Party of India, allege that the Commandant of 2nd Manipur Rifles (MR) had provided uniforms, shoes, arms and ammunition and other equipment worth Rupees 42 lakh to NSCN-IM militants.

Three Kukis are killed and several others sustain injuries in an attack by the NSCN-IM-IM at Taiphai Kuki village in Tamenglong district.

Security personnel belonging to Assam Rifles arrest six PLA militants from Saren village.

Five persons, including four MR personnel, are killed and three others sustain injuries in an ambush by the NSCN-IM at Khongjom in the Thoubal district.

Eight Kukis, including a woman, are killed and their houses set ablaze by suspected Naga militants at Molam and Chonglong villages in the Ukhrul district.

Five Kuki militants are killed and five persons sustain injuries in an ambush by the Kuki National Front (KNF) militants at Boljang in the Churachandpur district.

Manipur Government announces a reward of Rupees 10,000 for the arrest or information leading to the arrest of KNF ‘Chairman’ Nehlun Kuki.

Three Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) militants are killed during an encounter with the troops at Potsangbam in the Bishenpur district.

Unidentified militants make an abortive attempt to detonate an explosive in front of the residence of Manipur Chief Minister R.K. Dorendra Singh at Moirangkhom in Imphal West district.

Suspected NSCN-IM-IM cadres set ablaze 29 houses at Tingjan village in the Tamenglong district.

Lt. General (Retd) V.K. Nayyar is appointed as the new Governor of Manipur.

Three Kukis are killed and 61 houses burnt at Khubung in the Tamenglong district during Naga-Kuki Clashes.

Three persons, including a NSCN-IM cadre, are killed and seven persons arrested following an encounter at Laimanai Kabui village in the Churachandpur district.

September 13

At least 12 Kukis, including some women and children, are killed and 35 houses set ablaze by unidentified miscreants in the Belmang village of Senapati district.

September 13

Three Assam Rifles personnel are killed and three self-loading rifles are looted by unidentified valley-based militants at Moirangkhom Sawaijam Leirak in the Imphal West district.

September 15

Kuki militants kill three Nagas and abduct one person from Nation village in the Senapati district.

September 16

90 Kukis are massacred at Zoupi and in the surrounding areas of Senapati district by suspected NSCN-IM militants.

September 18

10 people, including the Officer-in-Charge of Lamlai police station and two police personnel, are killed by Meitei militants during an attack on a police patrol party in the Sowombung Kabui village of Imphal East district.

September 20

Manipur Government announces rewards on the heads of 20 PLA, 10 UNLF and 2 NSCN-IM militants amounting to Rupees 22.5 lakh. They include PLA leaders I. Bhorot, Manoharmayum Pravin Kumar, Sanasam Ibopisak, Wangkhem Loken Singh, Ms. Ahenthem Mema Devi and Moirangthem Mual Singh.

13 Kuki children are burnt alive by NSCN-IM militants at Taolong village in the Senapati district.

Naga insurgents disarm a section of Manipur Rifles personnel in the Khoupum area of Tamenglong district and decamp with their arms and ammunition.

Four Kuki civilians are killed in an attack by the NSCN-IM at Thanglongbung Kuki village in Senapati district.

November 3

Manipur Police claims that at least 64 Manipuri insurgents are receiving arms training at the Dhamai camp in Bangladesh.

November 5

Two People’s Republic of Kangleipak (PREPAK) terrorists are killed and another is wounded during an encounter in the Utlou area of Bishenpur district.

November 16

Militants attack the 6th Manipur Rifles post at Mulam area in Ukhrul district and loot three Light machine guns, 22 rifles, two sten guns, one pistol and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

November 17

Suspected NSCN-IM-IM militants attack the 7th MR post at Bungpa Khullen in Senapati district and decamp with 11 weapons besides several rounds of ammunition.

November 17

Manipur Police arrests PREPAK ‘commander-in-chief’ Pukhrambam Rajen Singh from an undisclosed location in the State.

November 19

PLA ‘commanding officer’ Jems is killed by the Manipur Police at Kongba Bazaar in the Imphal East district.

November 22

Nine suspected Kuki militants are arrested at Island village in the Senapati district.

November 24

United National Liberation Front (UNLF) blames politicians and the Union Government for the Kuki-Naga ethnic clashes in Manipur and urges the Meiteis to take a firm stand on the collective future of all ethnic groups in the State.

December 5

‘Commander-in-chief’ of the Peoples’ Republican Army (PRA) Aheibam Prakash Singh alias Bungo is arrested from Brahmapur Nahabam Leikai in Imphal East district.

December 8

Suspected PLA militants attack the Yairipok police station in Thoubal district and decamp with some arms and ammunition.

December 16

Seven Naga villagers are killed and eight others sustain injuries in an attack by Kuki militants at Khongbal village in the Senapati district.

December 30

Former ‘commander-in-chief’ of PREPAK, S. Wanglen, is killed by unidentified assailants at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai in the Imphal West district.

December 31
