Chronology of cease-fire between NSCN-K and Union Government

 

November 14, 1998

Union Government announces a cease-fire with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) for two months from November 15, 1998, to January 15, 1999.

December 18, 1998.

NSCN-K announces a 20-day cease-fire with the security forces from December 28.

January 11, 1999

NSCN-K offers unilateral cease-fire for three months with effect from January 11, 1999, till April 11, 1999. The security forces also suspended operations against NSCN-K for three months with effect from January 15.

April 8, 2000

NSCN-K announced a six-month long cease-fire. In response, the security forces unilaterally decided to suspend counter-insurgency operations for six moths from April 16, 2000 to October 16, 2000.

October 10, 2000

NSCN-K called for formalisation of the cease-fire agreement with the Union Government. In response, on October 16, 2000, the cease-fire with NSCN-K was extended for another six months, till April 16, 2000

April 28, 2001

A year long cease-fire with the NSCN-K was announced. The truce was finalised following talks between representatives of the Union Government led by P. D. Shenoy, Additional Secretary (Home), and those of the NSCN-K, led by Tongmeth Wangnao Konyak in New Delhi in early April 2001.

April 30, 2001

Union Government and the NSCN-K formulate a 15-point charter of cease-fire grounds rules in Nagaland.

September 3, 2001

Talks between the Union Government and NSCN-K begin in Kohima.

November 5, 2001

The second cease-fire supervisory board meeting between representatives of the Union Government and NSCN-K in Kohima resulted in both parties resolving to implement the cease-fire ground rules.

April 24, 2002

Union Government--NSCN-K cease-fire to be extended by a year beginning April 28.

April 25, 2003

The truce between the Union Government and NSCN-Khaplang is extended for another year with effect from April 28, 2003.

April 28, 2004

Cease-fire extended by another year.

February 22, 2005

NSCN-K holds a cease-fire supervisory board meeting at Mon district to review implementation of Ground Rules.

April 28, 2005

Cease-fire extended by a year following a meeting in New Delhi.

April 21, 2006

The Union Government extends the cease-fire with the NSCN-K by another year from April 29.

April 26, 2007

The Union Government extends the cease-fire with the NSCN-K by another year.

April 24, 2008

The Union Government extends the cease-fire with the NSCN-K by another year from April 28.

April 24, 2009

The Union Government extends the cease-fire with the NSCN-K by another year.

May 3, 2010

The Union Government extends the cease-fire with the NSCN-K by another year till April 28, 2011.
