women and an Afghan man from Wana, headquarters of South Waziristan,
in an operation against the al
Qaeda and Taliban
suspects.

A media report quoting official sources said that
the federal government has decided to form a group to manage the
ongoing operations against al Qaeda in the country's tribal areas.
The decision was reportedly taken because the government and the
US FBI are facing problems in its operations in North and South
Waziristan. Pakistan army officers, Frontier Constabulary, law
enforcement agencies, political agents and political figures of
the tribal areas would be part of the proposed group.

Three persons, including an Iraqi and two Afghans,
were arrested from Hyderabad in the Sindh province for suspected
al Qaeda links. They are also suspected to be involved in the
murder of an official of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI),
Pakistan's external intelligence agency, at Wana in South Waziristan
on March 4.

Some 125 Russian-made rockets are recovered from
a truck loaded with animal fodder in North Waziristan.

Two persons were injured in a missile attack on
a telephone exchange in North Waziristan

Nine persons, including some military personnel,
were injured during a bomb blast at the main Miranshah bazaar
in North Waziristan. Security agencies subsequently arrested 22
Afghan nationals in this connection.

Three persons, including a woman, were killed
and four others sustained injuries during a bomb explosion in
the Saidgai village of North Waziristan along the Pakistan-Afghanistan
border. It was reportedly the second bomb blast during the last
24 hours in the same area.

Security agencies in North Waziristan defused
three bombs near the Khajuri military fort on the Mir Ali-Bannu
Road.
Governor of the North West Frontier Province,
Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, said that an operation against carrying
of arms would commence from August 5, in the Mirali, Miranshah
and Razmak markets.

Security agencies seized 11 rounds of RR-15, 9
rounds of RR-75, 30 rounds of RGP-7, 17 MRO-82 type bombs of and
69 12.7mm rounds during a raid in North Waziristan.

At least 12 al Qaeda terrorists were killed and
18 others arrested during an operation launched by the Pakistan
Army in the South Waziristan, close to the Afghanistan border.
Two Pakistani soldiers were reportedly killed and two others wounded
during the incident. The early morning operation occurred in the
Bagharh area, approximately 15 kilometers west of Wana.

The political administration in South Waziristan
is reported to have launched a crackdown on a tribe for not surrendering
tribesmen accused of sheltering al Qaeda and Taliban operatives.
Security agencies have arrested at least 24 Wazir tribesmen, impounded
their vehicles and sealed their business centers, said eye witnesses.

The political administration of South Waziristan
is reported to have arrested at least 60 persons for allegedly
sheltering Taliban and al Qaeda operatives. During the crackdown,
the administration also sealed three petrol stations, eight hotels
and restaurants and 232 shops. The operation has targeted the
tribes of Yaargul Khel, Atman Khel and Kray Khel in the area.

Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed disclosed
in Islamabad that an unnamed senior al Qaeda leader, reportedly
ranking 10th from the top, was killed in the October 2, 2003-operation
launched by the Pakistan Army in South Waziristan, close to the
Afghanistan border. At least 12 al Qaeda terrorists were killed
and 18 others arrested during the operation.

Two suspected Uzbek terrorists were killed during
an encounter with Pakistani troops in the Angoor Adda area of
South Waziristan. Pakistani soldiers on a routine patrol were
fired upon by the group and in retaliation two of the attackers
were killed while two of their associates managed to escape. Local
tribesmen were quoted as saying that the attackers were from Uzbekistan
and are believed to be members of the late Juma Namangani's group,
who was killed during the US bombing on Taliban bases at Mazar-e-Sharief
in Afghanistan during October 2001.

Pamphlets 'promising' money for killing any Pakistan
Army soldier or 'Pakistani or foreign mujahideen' were found circulating
in the tribal area of Angore Adda, near the Pakistan-Afghanistan
border in South Waziristan. The pamphlets, written in Pashtu,
'offered' Rupees 0.5 million for killing a soldier, Rupees 0.3
million for 'a Pakistan mujahid' and Rupees 0.5 million for 'a
foreign mujahid'. It also reportedly offered unspecified amounts
of money to anyone attacking 'army installations or any state
interests inside Pakistan'. The pamphlets have not been attributed
to any organisation.

A man recently identified by China as its top
terrorist was reportedly shot dead during an anti-terrorism operation
in South Waziristan. Hasan Mahsum, a former resident of China's
Xinjiang region, was killed recently. Major General Shaukat Sultan
said, "Yes, this man was killed in a Pakistan army's operation
on October 2." China during last week had placed Mahsum on the
top of its first ever list of terrorists. It identified Mahsum,
aged 39, as a leader in the East Turkistan Islamic Movement, which
it said, was a terrorist group, along with three others.
