Terrorism-related Incidents in Islamabad - 2016

An employee of ARY TV channel was injured when unidentified militants hurled hand grenades and opened indiscriminate fire at the office in Islamabad. The attackers, before fleeing from the scene, left pamphlets which said Daesh (also known as Islamic State/IS) claims responsibility for the attack.

A head constable of capital city police was killed and two others injured in firing by two motorcycle bourne unidentified assailants at Pindora Chungi of Industrial area Police Station in Islamabad.

ST cadres manhandled journalists in Islamabad as they gathered outside Parliament House at the Red Zone to protest against the hanging of Malik Mumtaz Qadri, the assassin of former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer. Many journalists, including cameramen, were injured.

At least four suspected persons were arrested by SFs during a search operation in various areas of Golra Police Station in the Federal capital Islamabad. SFs also recovered illegal weapons and alcohol from the possession of arrested persons.

Abid Abdullah, the executive of Jang Group of newspapers, was freed by his kidnappers in Islamabad. He was abducted by unidentified persons from Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on September 28, 2016. "He arrived safely at the Geo office in Islamabad and is fine," said an unnamed journalist.

A Major of the Pakistan Army, Major Zeeshan Naseem, was shot dead by unidentified assailants, who stormed his residence in Sector I-8/4 in Islamabad, the Federal Capital. Major Zeeshan Naseem's wife answered the door and found a man standing outside. He pushed her aside and while she tried to intercept him, two more persons entered the house Police quoted the major's wife as saying. Major Zeeshan Naseem, who was in a nearby room, rushed to the gate after he heard the voice of his wife. One of the men pulled out a pistol and fired on him, the Police added. He suffered a bullet injury in the chest and fell to the floor, bleeding. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

A general councillor belonging to the PTI was shot at and injured by assailants within the jurisdiction of the Karachi Company Police Station in Islamabad.
