Tripartite meet with UNC to review creation of seven new Districts will be held in Manipur

The decision to create seven new districts in Manipur, which led to massive protests and 139-day blockade on National Highways connecting the State, will be reviewed at a tripartite meeting called by Union Home Ministry on October 6 (today) in Senapati District, reports Epao. The representatives of United Naga Council (UNC), Union and State Governments will take part in the UHM meeting. UNC, the apex political organisation of Nagas residing in the hill districts of Manipur, had staged massive protests following the creation of the new districts alleging that such a move would divide the ancestral land of the Nagas.

Meanwhile, 230 Kuki ‘chiefs’ from across the State under the aegis of Kuki Inpi (apex body of Kuki) on October 5 resolved that the scheduled tripartite talks between the State Government, Union Government and UNC should not infringe on the interest of other communities, reports Epao.

Further, the Pherzawl District Demand Committee (PDDC) has urged all concerned to desist from including Pherzawl district in any demand for rollback of newly created districts, reports Epao. Pherzawl is one of the seven newly created Districts.
