Nepal      Second phase elections begin in 45 Districts

Second phase elections begin in 45 Districts

Voting for the second phase federal parliament and provincial assembly elections has begun across the 45 Districts of the country on December 7 (today), reports Kathmandu Post. Voters have arrived at their respective voting centres from 7 am to cast ballot to elect 128 House of Representatives and 256 Provincial Assembly members. The voting will continue till 5 pm. 

Earlier, three people were injured when cadres of left alliance and Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal (FSF-N) clashed in Gaushala of Mahottari District on December 5, reports Kathmandu Post. The injured are Pramod Mahato, Manoj Singh and Bipin Singh of the left alliance. 

Meanwhile, a pressure-cooker bomb planted on the ground floor of an under-construction house of Hira Nanda Maharjan in Kirtipur Municipality-5 of Kathmandu was safely defused by a bomb disposal squad of Nepali Army on December 5, reports The Himalayan Times.  

Separately, Nepal Army defused an improvised explosive device (IED) that was found in Hetauda Sub Metropolis-8 of Makwanpur District on December 6, reports The Himalayan Times. According to the Police, an unidentified group had planted the bomb, on the road connecting Raigai-Kamane-based Industrial corridor. 

In the meantime, Nepal Police have taken around 1,000 persons under control for their attempt to spoil the election atmosphere, reports The Himalayan Times on December 6. So far a total of 957 people have been arrested from different parts of the country on charge of attacking political leaders, candidates and cadres. Of them, 600 were associated with Biplav-led Maoist, 13 reportedly with CK Raut group and remaining 344 belonged to some other political parties.
