Stating
that Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)
activity in the State's Jangalmahal region has
been considerably brought under control after
the new government came to power in West Bengal,
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said on February
18 that both the Central and the State Government
will work together to eliminate left wing extremism
from the State, reports The Hindu. “I think after
the new government took over, the people of West
Bengal should readily appreciate and acknowledge
that the Naxal problem that was affecting the
Jangalmahal region of the State has been controlled
to a substantial extent,” he said at the inauguration
of the Regional Hub of National Security Guard
(NSG) at Badu in the State's North 24 Parganas
District. Chidambaram attributed the success in
combating the Maoist problem to co-operation between
the Central and the State Government. |
