At least 12 troopers
were killed and two others were injured in a clash with militants
during the ongoing operation Rah-e-Nijat (path to salvation)
in Ahmed Wam area of South Waziristan Agency (SWA) in Federally
Administered Tribal Areas (FATA)
on February 8, according to Daily Times. Six militants
were also killed in the exchange of firing with the Security
Forces (SFs). The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) sources
said that the SFs successfully secured important feature point
5376, three kilometers north of Ahmed Wam, while clearance operation
in Khawasai area was underway.
Meanwhile, ten
troopers injured during an encounter with militants in Langar
Khel on February 7 succumbed to their injuries, said the ISPR,
adding the total casualties of soldiers were 15.
Separately, a minor
girl was killed and four others including a woman sustained
serious injuries when militants fired four rockets at the Army
garrison and a surrounding village in Khugakhel area of Landikotal
in the Khyber Agency on February 8, reports The News.
Official sources said that militants fired four rockets from
the nearby hilltop of which two landed inside cantonment in
an open ground causing no casualty. However, the sources added,
two rockets landed in a village near Zakaria Masjid, killing
a minor girl, identified as Sumaira, on the spot. Four others
seriously wounded in the attack.
Further, the militants
fired rockets at the Razmak Camp and Laghr Manza in North Waziristan
Agency, which was effectively retaliated by SFs on February
7.
In addition, the
SFs arrested three suspected militants during search operation
in Safi sub-division of Mohmand Agency.
Elsewhere, a powerful
explosion completely destroyed container carrying supplies for
United States-led NATO forces in Afghanistan near the Torkham
pass along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on February 8, reports
Dawn. A bomb was planted inside the container by militants,
local officials said.
