'80 per cent of its territory free of militants', claims Akkakhel peace lashkar
The Akkakhel peace lashkar on April
17 claimed to help reopen eight educational
institutions and launch a successful polio
vaccination campaign after purging nearly
80 per cent of its territory of militants
and restoring the writ of the Government,
reports Dawn. Haji Gul Miran, head
of Akkakhel Amn Sarishtha (peace lashkar),
told the media in Bara tehsil (revenue
unit) of Khyber Agency in Federally Administered
Tribal Areas (FATA) that efforts were afoot
to clear the entire area of all militant groups
and pave the way for a peaceful return of
internally displaced families to their homes.
“It was due to the ruthless behaviour of militants
that thousands people were forced to flee
their houses and take shelter in the inhospitable
environs of Jalozai camp,” he added.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Masood
Kausar said that the Government was trying
to turn FATA into the regional trade corridor
by developing communication network of international
standard.  The Governor said many roads
of high quality had been constructed in South
and North Waziristan Agencies, while work
on many was underway in the tribal region
and that Peshawar-Torkham Road would be converted
to a highway of international standard. He
said the Government was promoting sports activities
in FATA and providing vocational and technical
training to tribal youth to let them earn
honourable livelihood.
