ULFA-ATF reiterates its call for bandh on April 20 to protest Prime Minister Manmohan Sing's Assam visit

Nagaland Post reports that Anti-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-ATF) on April 17 reiterated its call for a bandh (General Shutdown) on April 20 to protest against the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the State.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister (CM) Tarun Gogoi said that extortions and kidnappings in Assam are not alarming compared to some of the other north eastern States referring to the Manmohan Singh’s address at the CMs’ Conference in Delhi on April 16, reports The Assam Tribune. Gogoi said the State Government has been trying to curb the illegal activities of the militant and ex-militant groups in State.

In addition, State Education and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarmah said that ULFA issue would be resolved in the near future, but the threat by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) was a matter of concern for the State, reports The Sentinel.
