Maoists kill two civilians in Chhattisgarh

Hindustan Times reports that the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed two villagers in Bijapur District on May 16 suspecting them to be Police informers.

Separately, six Policemen were injured, two of them critically, in an encounter with the Maoists at Chindgarh in Sukma District early in the day. The Sukma Additional Superintendent of Police Surjan Ram Bhagat said that the Maoists targeted the Police party which was on a search operation. They detonated couple of landmine blasts and opened fire on the force.

Meanwhile, normal life was affected in interior parts of Bastar region due to the Bharat bandh (All India shut down strike) call given on May 16. The CPI-Maoist had given a call for Bharat bandh against the presence of Army in Bastar and the anti-Maoist operations by the Security Forces.
