Maoist blow up rail track in West Bengal

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres blew up the main railway tracks between New Delhi-Howrah route on May 17, reports news24online.com. According to information, Maoists attacked on railway track near Gurap Railway station in Hooghly District during wee hours. This has affected movements of train.  

Meanwhile, Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee, who will complete a year in office on May 20, claimed that her Government has been able to restore peace in Jungle Mahal (West Midnapore Purulia and Bankura Districts) with not a single death reported so far this year, reports IBN Live. Citing statistics, the Chief Minister said that in 2010-11 when the Left Front Government was still in power in the state, 139 civilians and 35 security personnel were killed in Jungle Mahal. "We have been able to restore peace in Junglemahal. There were only 12 civilian and two security personnel casualties after we came to power, with no death reported since January this year till date," the CM said.
