A hand grenade, lobbed by some unidentified assailants, exploded at the residential gate of one Wahengbam Gopal (56) of Chingamakha Liwa Lambi of Ningthoujam Leikai under Singjamei Police station in Imphal West District on May 18, reports The Sangai Express. However, there is no report of any casualty.

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) recorded the statement of three prosecution witnesses including two women and a restaurant owner, on May 17, as a follow-up investigation of the different cases taken up against the arrested ‘commander-in-chief (c-in-c)’ of Poirei Meitei faction of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Poirei Meitei) Khoirom Ranjit for extortion, bomb attack, kidnapping for ransom and others, reports The Sangai Express.

In another incident, Nehlun faction of Kuki National Front (KNF-N) observed its ‘raising day’ in Kangpokpi District on May 18, reports The Sangai Express. On the occasion, the militant’s ‘information and publicity secretary’ Gogou Vaiphei said that the ‘vision’ of the group was creating a State within the framework of the Constitution of India.

Separately, the United Naga Council (UNC), the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the State Government of Manipur are all set to resume the ‘tripartite talks’ on the district creation issue today (May 19) at Senapati town, reports The Morung Express.

Erstwhile, Chief Minister (CM) N Biren Singh who met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, on May 18, regarding different issues of the State, reminded him that Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi had agreed in principle to the request of the State Government to set up five new Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) battalions and urged him to take the matter up for discussion at the Union Cabinet meeting, reports The Sangai Express. The five IRB battalions are to be primarily used for providing security on the National Highways (NHs) which connect the State with the rest of the country.
