Nagaland
Post reports that Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh, who will travel
to Myanmar for a two-day visit from
May 27 and 28 will hold talks with
Myanmar’s President Thein Sein for
a joint initiative on tackling drug
money used by Indian militant outfits
for purchase of weapons to wage
terror campaign against India. This
issue was discussed threadbare when
Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh
met with Myanmar’s Deputy Home Minister
Brigadier General Kyaw Zan Myint
in Yangon in January, 2012. Both
sides deliberated on the presence
of anti-Indian militant outfits
along the 1,643 km long, mostly
unfenced, Indo-Myanmar international
border, exchange of intelligence
inputs and sharing of interrogation
reports of arms smugglers arrested
in Myanmar. Brigadier General Myint
assured the Indian delegation of
all necessary help to keep the border
free from militants, drug and arms
smugglers.
