CPN-UML cadre died in clash with NC cadres in Bajura District

A Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) cadre was died after being hit by a stone during a clash with Nepali Congress (NC) cadres at Jogedi in Bajura District on June 18, reports The Himalayan Times. Both the sides exchanged stones during an ugly fracas on their way to file nomination at the Chededaha Rural Municipality Election Office in the District. Police identified the deceased as Hansa Rawat (50). It has been learned that at least a dozen cadres from both sides were injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, a bomb went off injuring at least 10 persons in Gajeda of Banganga Municipality-4 of Kapilvastu District on June 18, reports The Himalayan Times. According to DSP Prahlad Adhikari, Spokesperson at Kapilvastu District Police Office, the bomb exploded at the Gajedaha-Taulihawa road section at around 1:35 pm. The bomb exploded some 800 metres away from a polling station in Gajeda, informed DSP Adhikari.

Separately, Police on June 18 arrested two central committee members of the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) for carrying out activities to obstruct the filing of nominations by candidates standing in the second phase of local level elections, reports Republica. The arrested are Foniram Chaudhary and Sunita Chaudhary. They were arrested while burning tyres on the road to halt the nomination process.

In the meantime, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on June 18 today issued a press release, saying its attention was drawn to the use of force by the security personnel in the protests organized by the RJPN and arrests made by security personnel, reports The Himalayan Times. “The NHRC draws the attention of the government not to arrest people in arbitrary manner and not to misbehave with people who take part in peaceful protests,” the rights body said in its release.
