Four militants arrested in Manipur

Kanglaonline reports that Security Forces (SFs) arrested one Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) militant, identified as Lamjahao Hangshing alias Abul, from old petrol pump of Kangpokpi in Senapati District on June 29 at around 3:10 am. According to a statement of the Senapati Superintendant of Police (SP), the arrested individual was trying to extort money from vehicles plying along the National Highway 2.

In another incident, SFs arrested a People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) militant, identified as Kshetrimayum Singhajit Singh, during a search operation at Bijoypur Village in Thoubal District at about 8:20 pm on June 28. One Chinese made hand grenade was recovered from his possession.

Also, one militant belonging to Wanglem faction of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Wanglem), identified as Muhammad Mustakim, was arrested from Kakching bazar on June 28. A Chinese hand grenade was recovered from him.

Further, SFs arrested a United National Liberation Front (UNLF) cadre from Sekmai Bazar in Imphal West District at 12:30 am on June 29, reports The Sangai Express.

Separately, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) has taken strong exception over the Haochong incident where villagers were reportedly thrashed by the cadres of NSCN-Khaplang and Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) on June 28. According to the NSCN-IM, cadres of ZUF and NSCN-K tortured some villagers severely for supporting the NSCN-IM.

Also, a turf war between Naga militant factions in Tamenglong District which also resulted in civilian casualties, has forced the people in the District to raise their voices against the clashes, reports The Telegraph. A public meeting on June 28 at the District headquarters of Tamenglong appealed to all armed groups to vacate the civilian areas and stop targeting “innocent civilians”.
