ANVC-B asks GHADC CEM to resign by June 5

Achik National Volunteer Council-Breakaway faction (ANVC-B) ‘chairman’ Rimpu N Marak on June 3 has asked the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Purno K Sangma to resign by June 5, reports The Shillong Times. This comes after failing to respond to the voting right issue raised by the ANVC-B within a week’s deadline. 

 Meanwhile, State Police will seek custody of the six persons including four Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants, who were arrested by the Assam Police along with a huge consignment of arms and ammunition from Gorchuk area of Guwahati on June 2, Director General of Police (DGP) N Ramachandran said on June 3. Four GNLA militants include one Pintu Marak, who is the brother-in-law of GNLA Commander-in-Chief, Sohan D Shira .The consignment of arms and ammunition included one AK 74 assault rifle, one Berretta .32 pistol, 25 shells, 400 rounds of AK 74 ammunition, 500 rounds of 9 mm pistol ammunition, 20 rounds of ammunition of .32 Berretta pistol.

Separately, ANVC ‘publicity secretary’ Arist Sangma on June 3 said that ANVC may take action against one of its member, Sasan Sangma, if his alleged involvement in the trafficking of girls from Garo Hills for prostitution in the capital city Shillong is proved.
