Two top leaders of the Lal Pataka faction of the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP), identified as chief adviser Kamrul Islam alias Kamrul Master and operations commander Md Abdul Latif alias Jhunu Maker were killed in a shootout between Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel and PBCP cadres at Tebunia in the Pabna district on July 14. Two pipe-guns and three bullets were recovered from the encounter site.

Separately, suspected PBCP-Marxist-Leninist cadres killed two Jubo Dal activists at Khalishakundi in Daulatpur sub-district on July 13. Police said an armed gang of PBCP cadres intercepted the Jubo Dal while they were returning home in the area in a rickshaw van from Khalishakundi market. The gang took them to a nearby field and shot them point blank.
