Despite a worldwide ban, the Jama’at-ud-Dawa (JuD) on July
27 sent out messages
on Twitter and
Facebook asking
Muslims across
the world to donate
zakat and
fitra during
the holy month
of Ramazan (fasting),
reports The
Express Tribune.
JuD, through its
official Twitter
account, not only
appealed for donations
for itself but
also for Falah-e-Insaniyat
Foundation,
an organisation
of JuD formed
in the aftermath
of the United
Nations Security
Council (UNSC)
sanctions. JuD,
which is allegedly
the charitable
front and the
political arm
of al Qaeda-linked
Lashkar-e-Toiba
(LeT),
had earlier disowned
Falah-e-Insaniyat.
JuD’s message on Twitter, which had a link to Facebook as well,
called people
to donate zakat
in any form either
by cash, by donating
an ambulance or
by sponsoring
medicines or meals
for Sehr
and Iftar.
It remains unclear
whether the JuD
is registered
to collect funds
within the country
or not. JuD, when
contacted by The
Express Tribune,
said that since
the organisation
was not banned
in Pakistan, it
could collect
funds. “Everyone
knows that when
the UNSC placed
sanctions on Jama’at-ud-Dawa,
we went to the
court against
the ban and the
Lahore High Court
had decreed in
our favour, categorically
saying that the
JuD is not a banned
organisation,”
said Khalid Waleed,
the Chief coordinator
of JuD’s political
cell headed by
Abdur Rehman Makki. |
