Woman killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan army in Jammu and Kashmir

A 40-year-old woman, identified as Raqia Bi was killed in firing by the Pakistani Army at border villages and Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector of Poonch District on August 12 (today), reports Daily Excelsior.  “The Pakistani army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatic weapons and mortars from 0515 hours in Poonch sector along the LoC,” a Defence spokesman said. Indian Army personnel guarding the border posts retaliated strongly and effectively. The exchange of fire stopped at 0645 hours, he said. Till August 1 this year, there have been 285 instances of ceasefire violations by the Pakistani forces. In 2016, the number was significantly less at 228.

Earlier on August 11, Indian and Pakistan troops exchanged fire with small arms at Kamalkote sector of Uri in Baramulla District, adds Daily Excelsior. Sources said that the Pakistani troops targeted 20 Sikh and 8 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) regiments of Army at Kamalkote at around 6.25 pm. The fire was retaliated by the Army. The exchange of fire continued for few minutes but there was no injury or fatality on either side.
