An educationist, Ghulam Syed, who had led an armed lashkar (militia) against militants, was shot dead by unidentified assailants when he was going to his school at Lagharai Thal area in Lower Dir District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the morning of August 1, reports Dawn. Sources said that Ghulam Syed, vice principal of Government Higher Secondary School Bagh Maidan, was shot dead on the first day of reopening of schools after one month summer vacations.  Sources said that Ghulam Syed had no enmity with anyone, however, he played active role in organising youth of the area against militants. He was also a member of the local peace committee.

Meanwhile, unidentified militants blew up a Government school with explosives in Badhber area of Peshawar in the night of July 31, reports Daily Times. The school building was destroyed due to the blast but no causality or injury was reported as the building was vacant at the time of blast and also situated away from residential area.

Separately, Police recovered a 10th class student of Peshawar and an industrialist of Nowshera in separate raids and arrested eight alleged kidnappers.  In Peshawar, city circle Superintendent Of Police Asif Iqbal told a press conference in Malik Saad Khan Police Lines on Wednesday that the student, Haseeb Ali, was kidnapped on June 19, 2012 from Qazi Town area on Dalazak Road in the limits of Paharipura Police Station when he was on way to home from local mosque after Isha prayer.

In Nowshera, Police recovered the kidnapped owner of Kashmir Marble Industries, Abdul Hussain. He said that five alleged kidnappers were also arrested during the raid on a hideout. The DPO said that Police took the action following a tip-off that the industrialist was kept at a hideout in Risalpur area. Abdul Hussain was kidnapped on July 3 along with his car and kept in the house of one Javid in the limits of Risalpur Police Station. The arrested persons were identified as Khalid, Saeed Ahmad, Zahir Khan, Jahangir and Yousuf. The Police also recovered two Kalashnikovs and two pistols from their possession.
