Miscreants at Dhaligaon in Bodo-Muslim clash affected Chirang District set ablaze four houses on August 1, reports IBNLive. However, there was no report of any injury to any person. Police and BSF personnel have been rushed to the spot and the situation is being closely monitored, an officer in this regard said. Night curfew continues in affected Chirang, Kokrajhar and Dhubri Districts. According to State Home Department said that 5,000 houses were set ablaze in 244 villages during the Bodo-Muslim clashes.

The clashes started when founder president of All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) , Mohibul Islam and former leader of All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU), Abdul Siddique Sheikh were seriously injured in the attack on July 19. In a retaliatory attack, a mob of people at Joypur under Kokrajhar Police Station lynched to death four former militants of disbanded Bodoland Liberation Tiger (BLT) - Pradip Bodo (32), Jonson Bodo (36), Nip Goyari (25) and Jamin Goyari (24) in the night of July 20. Initially, Kokrajhar and then Chirang District were affected. Later, violence also spread to Dhubri and Baksa Districts.

Meanwhile, five additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Army were deployed in Sonitpur District as a precautionary measure after human parts were recovered from Sopai river in Belsiri from where three petty traders who had gone to the area had been reported missing on July 23, reports The Telegraph. The three missing traders were identified as Abdul Khalaque (30), Mubarak Ali (22), and Mohammad Mujaharul (18). The news report also states that a red alert was sounded in the district after violence broke out in some areas of the Bodo Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD).

Elsewhere, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that illegal migration from Bangladesh to Assam had lessened but not stopped altogether, reports Assam Tribune.“Nobody has said illegal migration from Bangladesh has stopped. It has gone down only. That is why we are seeking a better border protection mechanism in the form of enhances night vigilance, floating outposts, etc. In fact, we have already taken many measures to check inflation,” Gogoi said at a press conference.
