Five militants among 13 persons killed in separate incidents in Punjab

Five militants, including one cadre of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), identified as Arshad, and four Intelligence officials were killed in crossfire in Pind Dadan Khan area of Jhelum District in Punjab on November 12, reported Express Tribune. It was reported that Police had carried out an operation on Pir Chambal hill with the help of Intelligence Agencies. The militants were hiding inside a shrine located on the hill. The militants killed belonged to the Lakhkar-e-Jhangvi ( LeJ ) outfit, reports Dawn.

Separately, at least four people were killed in a firing incident at Rawalpindi Court, reported Express Tribune. According to sources, three unidentified militants opened fire at a man named Chaudhry Shaukat, his brother and his nephew who were being taken to the court for a hearing. One passer-by, also shot in the incident, succumbed to his wounds. The Police claimed to have arrested two of the suspects and said that the incident was an organised crime.

12 persons killed in separate incidents in FATA

At least six persons, including two children and a woman, were killed when a mortar fired by militants fell on a house in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on November 12, reported Daily Times. Sources said that the militants wanted to target a nearby check post of Security Forces (SFs) but missed the target and fell on the house.

Separately, six Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) militants were killed and 10 others wounded at Bara tehsil (revenue unit) in Khyber Agency during an encounter at a Frontier Corps check post, reports Dawn. SF arrested all the injured militants.

Meanwhile, militants refused to release the 26 labourers abducted from Kalakhel area of Khyber Agency on September 30, 2011. Militants had demanded PNR 1.5 million for release of the abducted workers and the local committee had agreed to pay the amount but later the abductors refused to release the labourers so the money was not paid, a tribal elder said. “Militants have threatened to kill the abducted labourers if Government initiates any operation against them in the region,” he added.

One Policeman killed in bomb blast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

A Policeman, identified as Ayaz, was killed and a constable Fazal Rahim injured in a remote-controlled bomb attack on a Police check post near Dhandu Bridge at Saro Police Station in Charsadda District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on November 12, reported Daily Times.

Separately, a former union nazim (organiser) and local leader of Awami National Party (ANP) Karimul Hadi Khan, along with his two friends Professor Riaz and Haji Akhunzada were injured in a hand grenade attack by unidentified militants in Kanju Township in Kabal tehsil (revenue unit) of Swat District.

Two persons injured in a remote controlled blast in Balochistan

A woman and a teenage boy were injured in a remote controlled blast on a Police patrol near the Bakra Mandi area in Dera Murad Jamali city of Naseerabad District in Balochistan on November 12, reports Express Tribune. Unknown militants attached an explosive device to a motorbike in the Bakra Mandi area. “The target of the blast was a Police patrol. However, the personnel escaped unhurt. The passers-by received minor injuries,” local Police official Hidyatullah said. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Separately, unidentified militants blew up three power-supplying towers with explosive materials in Kohlu District, reports Daily Times. United Baloch Army (UBA) spokesman Mizar Baloch, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, Levis Force recovered three abductees during an encounter with the armed captors in Mach area of Bolan District, reported The News. Armed militants had abducted them on gun point early on November 12, 2011.

Any action by the Armed Forces without the consent of the Federal Government will be illegal, says Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on November 12 said during a conversation with a delegation of the National Defence University (NDU), “any action of the Armed Forces taken without a direction by the Federal Government will be unconstitutional, illegal, void ab initio and consequently of no legal effect,” reported Dawn. He said that no court would approve assumption of power by an authority not mentioned in the Constitution and warned that any such move could invoke Article 6 of the Constitution.

North Waziristan TTP leader threatens to break peace

The Leader of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) North Waziristan Chapter Hafiz Gul Bahadur threatened on November 12 to abandon an unofficial peace deal with the Government, raising the spectre of more violence, reported Daily Times. Gul Bahadur cited American missile strikes and shelling by the Pakistani Army as the reason for his threat, which was made in a one-page statement distributed in the town of Miranshah in the North Waziristan Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) “If the Government continues with such brutal acts in the future, it will be difficult for us to keep our patience any longer,” the statement said.
