Nepal Government

"In his address to the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kuala Lumpur recently, the Prime Minister stated that the Iraqi situation was the most challenging issue confronting the world. The situation has not improved; it has on the contrary worsened.

In the interest of world peace and stability, Nepal believes that this problem should best have a peaceful and durable solution. As we see it, the problem has its origin more than 12 years ago in the aggression committed against a neighbour. There were definite obligations undertaken and subsequent actions under the Security Council Mandate, especially the destruction of weapons of mass destruction. It is the duty of Iraq as well as the international community particularly, the Permanent Members of the Security Council, to ensure that those obligations are fulfilled fully, unconditionally and without further delay".

-- Press Release, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, His Majesty's Government, Kathmandu, March 19, 2003.
