A 30-year-old man, identified as Laishram Kumarjit, was injured with a gunshot by suspected cadres of the Koireng-led faction of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF-K) in Khumbong, Imphal West District of Manipur, on May 18, reports nenow.in. Kumarjit, a resident of Takyel Kongbal, had been abducted from his home by unidentified armed assailants on May 17. Kumarjit was found the next day with a bullet injury to his left calf. The proscribed UNLF-K later claimed responsibility for the shooting. The incident comes as part of the UNLF-K’s intensified “campaign against immoral and illicit activities” in Manipur. According to the video message, these actions are part of the organisation’s ongoing efforts to combat such activities and enforce moral standards within Manipuri society.
A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Kameshwar Yadav (34), was arrested from an area in Pandu Police Station limits in Palamu District of Jharkhand on May 18, reports The Week. Yadav was wanted in several cases, including the torching of over six vehicles near Kalapahad in the Chhatarpur Police Station area, Superintendent of Police (SP) Reeshma Ramesan said. He has his own armed squad under the name of Dhanraj, she said. "Yadav was a close associate of Nitesh Yadav, who has a bounty of Rs 15 lakh [INR i.5 million]," she added.
