Reports in the media on January 8 said four personnel of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) of Manipur Rifles were killed and seven more injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast on January 7 in Mundum Mahadeva Lamkhai, Thoubal district. The identity of the terrorists who had perpetrated the attack has not been established yet, but it is suspected that the Kanglei Yawol Kunna Lup-Oken (KYKL-O) had set off the blast. The security force personnel were heading to Kakching Lamkhai, Leingangching and Umathel areas for search operations when the attack took place, reports said. A search has been launched to apprehend the terrorists.

Media reports have indicated that terrorists belonging to the Achik National Volunteers Council (ANVC) of Meghalaya and National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) on January 22 attacked a security forces camp by firing at it using rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) at Tikrikilla in South Garo Hills. Senior police officials were reportedly present in the camp at the time of the attack. Director General of Police, L Sailo reportedly mentioned that it was for the first time that terrorists have attacked using rockets, which were not RPGs, but presumably shoulder fired rockets.

In another explosion in Golaghat, Upper Assam, ten security force personnel were injured when ULFA terrorists used a remote-controlled Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to blast their bus. The security force convoy of five buses were going from Khatkhatia to the Meerapani area under Farkating police station, when the land mine exploded damaging the last vehicle and injuring 10 personnel. While the terrorists escaped into the jungle, police recovered a remote-control device. Following the incident, police has tightened security along the Assam-Nagaland border suspecting the ULFA terrorists to have crossed over to Nagaland after causing the blast.

According to media reports, nine persons were injured at Gauripur in Dhubri district in various attacks carried out allegedly by a combined group of suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) terrorists, on May 14. The terrorist, reportedly using an Ambassador car, first made a small group of Surrendered ULFA (SULFA) members their target at Bina Mandir and fired at them indiscriminately, and also lobbed grenades. Later, the terrorists made their way to the local market and lobbed more grenades at Rana Hotel. Durgabari was also made the target of indiscriminate firing. In all, nine persons were injured in these attacks. The terrorists reportedly managed to escape after the attacks. The injured were later taken to the Dhubri Civil Hospital. More details are awaited.

Media repots said the explosion occurred when the vehicle was crossing the Kharigaon-Balazam river-bridge, Bishmuri police station limits, Kokrajhar district of Assam. Following this, the terrorists also opened indiscriminate gunfire on the vehicle. However, no one was hurt in the attack. But, the attack caused severe damage to the vehicle and the bridge.
