At least eight low-intensity explosions were reported from two different Districts on January 26, reports The Telegraph. While four explosions were reported Porabhata, Medattari, Airkata and Chirakuti in Dhubri District, another four were reported from Simlakandi, Jaleswar, Gornagar and Merakuchi in Goalpara District. One of the blast occurred near the house of Mainuddin Ahmed, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) legislator, from Jaleswar. The Hindustan Times adds that immediately after the explosions at Jaleswar, the villagers caught a motorcycle-borne man. Suspecting he was the one carrying bombs, the villagers lynched him. The man was later identified as Nazrul Islam Khan, a known criminal, from the neighbouring Dhubri District. Superintendent of Police (SP), Goalpara, Shyamal Saikia said, “It seems the blasts were triggered by a gang of criminals. We found a letter on a fake ULFA [United Liberation Front of Asom] letterhead from the spot where he was killed. The letter carried a demand for Rs. 1 crore [INR 10 million]". The possibility of the involvement of Ulfa was very remote in this case, added Saikia.

Kanglaonline reports that Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) militants attacked Assam Rifles (AR) personnel by exploding a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at around 3.35 pm on February 15 from which they had a narrow escape. The incident occurred near the main road along the Uripok Kangchup Road, also known as Salam Pandol of Heibongpokpi under Lamsang Police station of Imphal West District. A convoy of AR vehicles including one gypsy and a 407 Mini truck of D Company of AR at Kangchup post was coming down to their post from Imphal, when the incident happened. However no AR personnel sustained injuries as the IED exploded after AR vehicles went past. The PLA, in a press release claimed that a Special warfare Group of the outfit was responsible for the bomb attack and further said that the pride of the Inspector General Assam Rifles –South (IGAR-S) on their success in bringing some armed groups to the negotiating table will be short lived and asserted that the surrendered militants cannot vilify the spirit of the revolutionaries and tarnish their spirit. It further added that PLA will not tire in its struggle to expel non-Manipuri soldiers from Manipur.

The injured were identified as Abujam Arun (21), Raghunath Manto (35),and Shambhu Shaha (40), both from Sitamari District in Bihar, Kishan Chakraborty and Rajdweep Sharma. Superintendent of Police (SP) of Imphal West, K Jayenta said “We don’t think today’s explosion was a target on migrant workers. It could be connected with monetary demanded slapped by underground organizations on the business community in Dharamsala area, “There have been reports of hefty demands served on the traders in the area and the blast could be a warning to them to cough up the money soon, the SP said and added that the police, nevertheless, have begun a probe to ascertain the motive behind the blast.“With the militants relying on explosive devices we have also changed our operational strategy to check their subversive activities in the city area in view of the rising number of shoppers for the upcoming festivals including Kut, Ningol Chak-kouba and Diwali etc,” the SP said.
