As many as 44 Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres including nine women cadres surrendered before Police in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on January 1, reports timesnownews.com. Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Sharma said, the rebels, mostly lower-rung cadres who were active in Chintalnar, Kishtaram and Bheji areas of the district, turned themselves in at the newly-set up Police camp in Karigundam village. One of them, Madkam Dula, a member of CPI-Maoist platoon no. 4, was carrying a reward of INR 200,000 on his head. Others were members of CPI-Maoist's militia or the Chetna Natya Mandli (CNM), a cultural wing of Maoists, SP, Sharma said, adding the surrendered cadres said they were disappointed with the "hollow" Maoist ideology and "impressed" by the district Police's rehabilitation drive for Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs], called 'Puna Narkom'. Puna Narkom, a Gondi word, means a new dawn.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Masa Sodhi, surrendered in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on January 8, reports UNI. Sodhi, a resident of Fulpad village within Kuakonda Police Station limits, and carrying a reward of INR 100,000 on his head, stands accused of triggering an explosion in 2016 at Mailewada, which resulted in seven Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed. Sodhi was also allegedly involved in the 2017 Burkapal encounter that claimed the lives of 12 personnel and two Maoists. Cases of attempts to murder, damaging roads and other property are also registered against the insurgent at various Police Stations.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre carrying a reward of INR 300,000 on his head surrendered in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 10, reports republicworld.com. Police said, Pandu Ram Savlam was the ‘self-styled deputy commander’ of the Wajedu Local Operation Squad (LOS), which functions under the Maoists' Telangana State Committee, and was involved in the Tekulagudem encounter last year. Police data showed that in 2021, as many as 553 Maoists surrendered statewide, while 499 ultras were arrested and 46 gunned down.

Tadkel ‘militia’ member Kumma, a resident of Bijapur village under Toyanar Panchayat (village level local-self-Government institution) of Bhairamgarh Area Committee, stricken by the hollow ideology of Maoists, surrendered before Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Vinay Kumar Singh and Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP). Ten cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) surrendered on separate incidents in Sukma and Dantewada Districts of Chhattisgarh on February 8, reports ibc24.in. In the first incident, Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Majdoor Sangathan (DAKMS) ‘chief’ Dashrath alias Kotulu Mandvi (29), Mangadu Nuppo (27), and Motu Kuhadami (24) surrendered at Dantewada with a reward of INR 100,000 each on their heads, an official said. DAKMS is a frontal organisation of the CPI-Maoist. Nineteen Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including four women cadres, surrendered at Bhejji Police Station in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on February 27, reports devdiscourse.com. The Maoists, three of them carrying cash rewards of INR 100,000 each on their heads, turned themselves in before Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials at Bhejji Police Station in the district on February 27 evening, citing disappointment with the "inhuman" and "hollow" Maoist ideology. All the rebels, whose identities are yet to be ascertained, hailed from Bodhrajpadar village in Bhejji area and were active as lower rung cadres of the CPI-Maoist. A senior official said the Maoists who laid down their arms were also "impressed" by the district Police's rehabilitation drive for Naxals [Left Wing Extremism, LWE], called 'Puna Narkom' (a term coined in local Gondi dialect which means New Dawn, New Beginning).

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) couple with a collective reward of INR 1.3 million on their heads surrendered in Kabirdham District of Chhattisgarh on March 14, reports latestly.com. Kabirdham, Superintendent of Police (SP), Lal Umed Singh, identified the couple as Karan alias Suddhu Hemla (26) and his wife Anita (22). "Hemla was active as Bodla Area Committee commander and Anita was a member of this committee. They were part of the outlawed movement's Kanha Bhoramdev division committee," the SP said. He further said, "Hemla was involved in three incidents of violence and was carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh., His wife Anita has taken part in five incidents of Maoist violence and the bounty on her head was Rs 5 lakh. They left the movement in 2019 and decided to surrender now." They were given INR 10,000 each after the surrender and they will be rehabilitated as per the state Government's policy, the SP said.

Six Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres surrendered in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on March 15, as part of the police’s ‘Puna Narkom’ campaign to get Maoists back into the mainstream, reports The Print. Sukma, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Sharma, identified the six surrendered Maoists as Kartam Kosa, Sodi Lakhma, Kawasi Deva, Kawasi Manga, Padam Somdu and Mandvi Ganga, all lower rungs functionaries of the CPI-Maoist. The SP informed, “They have laid down arms citing disappointment with the Maoist ideology and also due to our campaign called Puna Narkom (which means new dawn in the local Gondi dialect). Ganga has cases under IPC [Indian Penal Code] and Arms Act provisions, while others have also taken part in incidents of violence.”
