The duo was identified as Kamlesh Yadav and Priyanka Devi alias Sushma Devi, wifeof TSPC ‘commander’ Rakesh Ganjhu. A sum of INR 24,300 collected as a levy, bank passbook, ATM card, Naxal[Left Wing Extremist, LWE] literature,notebook, branded watch and Nepali Currency have been recovered from their possession.

A Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) jawan(trooper) and at least two cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were injured during an encounter on Toklo hills at the Jamro axis in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on February 7, reports Hindustan Times. “A CoBRA jawan has been injured while 2-3 Maoist extremists have also been hit in the encounter at Toklo hills of West Singhbhum district this morning. The injured jawan has been airlifted to Ranchi for appropriate medical care. The encounter happened on the border at West Singhbhum-Saraikela-Kharsawan-Khunti triangle. The search operation is still on and more details are awaited,” Ajay Linda, West Singhbhum,Superintendent of Police (SP), said. The injured CoBRA jawan has been identified as Narayan Chetri from Assam. “Narayan Chetri is now out of danger. The joint forces of district police, CRPF and CoBRA battalions have inflicted heavy damages on the Maoists. 2-3 Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] have sustained bullet injuries and search is on to trace them. We have also seized pipe bombs, land mines, IEDs, several rounds of ammunition and rucksacks,” Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Kolhan,Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), said.Police said a Maoist squad led by Toofan alias Patiram Majhi (Giridih), who has a bounty of INR 10 million on his head, and ‘area commander’ Maharaj Pramanik, who has a reward of INR 1 million on his head, opened fired on the Security Forces (SFs) when they were on a search operation. Stating that the operation was still on and would not stop until the Maoist squads active in the three districts of Kolhan are neutralised, the DIGP, Singh, said, “We will not spare anyone and will not stop before wiping out the Naxals completely. The developmental works for the people have been greatly hampered by these naxals and their subversive activities. They better surrender or be ready to be neutralized.”

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on February 10 carried out searches in the dense forests of Khunti District in Jharkhand and recovered high-grade explosives belonging to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), reports The New Indian Express. The searches were conducted in the Korangburu hillock at Jilingkel at the instance of an arrested Maoist identified as Naina alias Birsa Munda. “During the early morning operation, 100 metres of Cordtex wire (a type of detonating cord) and high-grade explosive -- 126 Gelatin sticks, weighing about 15 kgs -- were recovered”, an NIA spokesperson said. Naina was arrested in connection with the killing of five Police personnel in an attack by CPI-Maoist in June, 2019 at Kukru Haat in Seraikela Kharsawan District. The Jharkhand Police had arrested 11 accused and filed two charge-sheets against them. The NIA re-registered the case in December 2020 and arrested five more armed cadres of CPI-Maoist. During Naina's questioning, it was revealed that explosives procured by the CPI-Maoist were hidden at the Korangburu hillock, the NIA spokesperson added.

SFs recovered one desi single barrel rifle, one old desi pistol, one desi grenade, one detonator, eight pieces of 7.62 mm ammunition, 17 pieces of 9mm ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, one point 303 magazine, one wireless set, one camera flash and one half-burnet wireless set, adds Dainik Bhaskar. Ram Bhengra, a native of Kulap village and Security Forces (SFs) recovered two country-made fire weapons, two live bullets, five bikes, three mobile phones, two backpacks and some daily utility items after the exchange of fire. The encounter continued for around two hours when PLFI cadres opened fire on SFs. Police opened around 20 rounds of fire on PLFI cadres. No casualty or injury was reported during the encounter. SFs comprising of Khunti Police and 94th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were jointly carrying out an anti- Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] operation on getting intelligence inputs that PLFI cadres are planning some attacks in the forest area bordering Khunti and Gumla Districts of Jharkhand. The intelligence inputs further confirmed that PLFI ‘area commander’ John Topno along with his armed squad is moving in the bordering area. Some other members of that armed group were identified as Nakul Singh, Bishram Kongari and Wilcon. Topno was along with a dozen PLFI and they decamped in the forest area except Bhengra who was arrested. A Police statement said, the IEDs were planted targeting the forces associated with anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] operation. Acting on a tip-off, the District Armed Police and CRPF 60 battalion personnel launched a massive search operation and recovered the explosives, each weighing two kilograms, planted in the forest near Surbura Jharjhara New Market, the release said. The explosives have been defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of CRPF on the spot, the release said, claiming the explosives were planted to target security personnel on anti-Naxal operations.

Several weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, were recovered from the encounter site, Police said. Sources said a Jharkhand Jaguar team was on a search operation in Saliya forest area, around 10 kilometres from Latehar District Police headquarters, when the JJMP extremists opened fire on them. During the two-hour gunfight, a Maoist was killed and Deputy Commandant Rajesh Kumar sustained bullet injuries, they said. Kumar was taken to Latehar and then airlifted to Ranchi for treatment. He died at hospital in the course of treatment, a press release issued by Jharkhand Police said. The identity of the slain JJMP cadre is yet to be ascertained.

Sukar Oraon, a dreaded cadre of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), was allegedly shot dead by cadres of his organization at Lawadag village under Ghaghra Police Station in Gumla District of Jharkhand on October 30 night, reports The Pioneer. The bullet-ridden body of Oraon was found in his bed under a tree where he was sleeping. JJMP cadres had set up a temporary camp in the forest area of Lawadag. His body was recovered after Gumla Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Manish Chandra Lal and Gumla circle inspector SN Mandal reached the village on October 31 morning. Police recovered around a dozen spent cartridges, INR 3,200 cash. It seems that he was shot dead either by INSAS [Indian Small Arms System] assault rifle or AK 47. There were seven bullet injuries on his body. Police also recovered his mobile phone and other things from the camp. Sources in the Police said that Naxal [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] was probably killed by his men following a dispute over the distribution of ‘levy’ (extortion money). The accused are identified as Avinash Kumar alias Chhunu Sharma, CRPF jawan posted with the 182nd Battalion, Rishi Kumar and Pankaj Kumar Singh. A total of 450 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition used in INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifles were recovered based on their information. On November 15, ATS Superintendent of Police (SP), Prashant Anand said, “We succeeded in arresting the trio while working in close coordination with the Bihar Special Task Force. The accused have supplied a huge quantity of ammunition to the CPI (Maoist) and criminal organisations, including the notorious Aman Sao group. The ATS has got vital information regarding sources of arms and ammunition during the interrogation of arrested persons. Further investigation is going on in the case.” The accused were arrested between November 14 and 16 during raids in Ranchi, Patna and Gaya. On the basis of information received by Superintendent of Police (SP), Anjani Kumar Jha, the Police have arrested four cadres of TSPC, identified as Jitendra Yadav son of Mohan Yadav Parswar, Azad Ansari son of Shaukat Ansari, Anil Yadav son of Nanhak Yadav, Madhavkhand in Ramgarh in Palamu and Madhav Panika son of Prabhu Panika, Barkol in Bhandaria, in this case. During the search, a country-made revolver of six rounds, a two-nali (hole) country-made revolver, a country-made revolver, two cartridges, two mobiles were recovered from their possession. Following a complaint was made before SP Anjani Kumar by Sion Bakhala, husband of Tehri Panchayat head Prabha Kujur. It was said that some people are demanding ‘levy’ (extortion money) from them in the name of TSPC. They are threatening of dire consequences if the demand is not met, and the whole family is in panic due to the threat. In light of the information, a team raided and arrested the cadres.

Seven Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs], including the ‘supremo’ of Jharkhand Kranti Morcha (JKM), a lesser know splinter group of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), which is a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), were arrested by Police from Patki Forest under Sadar Police Station limits in Latehar District of Jharkhand on December 14, reports bhaskar.com. On the basis of secret information received by Superintendent of Police (SP), Anjani Anjan, the seven LWEs including the ‘supremo’ of the organization have been arrested from Patki Forest of Sadar Police Station area. The SP told that for the last one month, contractors, traders and brick kiln owners were being threatened to kill in Latehar District by Shankar Ram alias Saurabh by forming an organization called JKM. Extortion was being demanded. The Police was keeping an eye on it, and eventually, the entire organization came together in the hands of the Police. The raiding team arrested two uniformed cadres, including a woman, on a motorcycle from near Patki Forest, with loaded pistols, live bullets, Naxalite cards, mobile phones. They were identified as Saurabh and Zarina Khatoon alias Haseena Khatoon alias Haseena. Five other cadres of the organization Upendra Ram alias Om Prakash, Vikas Kumar alias Monu Kumar, Pradeep Pal, Amit Kumar and Sameer Lakra were also arrested with loaded pistol and live bullets from Kope village under Manika Police Station limits. Saurav used to work in Maoist’s splinter organization JJMP in the past. He has been to jail before, and after coming out of jail, he started organizing the organization by intimidating him and getting involved in the work of collecting the ‘levy’ (extortion money). SP, Anjan said that Monu has already been jailed from Hussainabad in the Arms Act case. At the same time, the arrested Om Prakash has been an active member of the Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), a splinter group of the CPI-Maoist, in the past. A case has been registered in this case under the Arms Act at Latehar Police Station. Four pieces loaded country pistol, eight pieces 315 live bullets, eight pieces JKM handwritten form, 28 pieces JKM leaflet, nine pieces mobile phone, five pieces bag, one piece motorcycle, three pieces Pied paints, three pieces of pied shirt, two pieces of diary, several items of daily use have been recovered from the possession of the arrested LWEs.
