An Associate Professor in the Telugu Department of Osmania University, identified as Chintakindi Kaseem, was arrested by the Gajwel Police for his alleged close links with Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI -Maoist) from Hyderabad District on January 18, reports The New Indian Express. Kaseem was arrested after Police conducted searches at his residence in the staff quarters of the University and seized banned Maoist literature, pamphlets, CDs and electronic equipment. As per the reports, Kaseem, who is also the editor of ‘Nadustunna Telangana’ magazine, was recently elected as the ‘secretary’ of the revolutionary writer’s association, ‘Virasam’. In 2016, he was booked under sedition charges by Mulugu Police.

A sympathiser-cum-courier of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) was arrested by Police at Yellandu crossroads in Laxmidevipalli Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on February 22, reports The Hindu. The arrested sympathiser has been identified as G. Srinivas, a resident of Vijayanagaram village in Manuguru Mandal in the District. As per the report, Srinivas was arrested during a vehicle checking drive after a brief chase when he attempted to flee on seeing the Police. The Police recovered some letters purportedly written by Maoists and also 10 meters of “uniform cloth” meant for the Maoists. The Police said that he was acting as a courier for Maoists and covertly supplying groceries to them in connivance with two other Maoist supporters of Manuguru and Pinapaka Mandals.

A sympathiser-cum-courier of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as Irpa Sarveswar, was arrested by a team of Security Forces (SFs) at Pusuguppa in Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on February 25, reports Telangana Today. According to the Sub-Inspector (SI) of Cherla Police, A. Raju Varma, Sarveswar was involved in many cases. He had been working as a courier to the Maoist leaders Haribhushan, Damodar, Azad and Sudhakar for the past three years. He used to supply vegetables, medicines, tiffin boxes, iron pieces, batteries and electrical wire for use in planting land mines. He used to inform Police movements to Maoist Dalam (armed squad) members, besides collecting money from businessmen in Cherla Mandal and handover the same to the Maoists. The Police seized a motorcycle, one gunny bag containing 20 metres Olive green cloth and Maoist literature from his possession.

Five sympathizer-cum-couriers of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were arrested with explosives in Jagannadhapuram village of Paloncha Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on February 29, reports The Times of India. The arrested couriers have been identified as, P. Saraiah (45), resident of Nimmalagudem in Kistaram Mandal of Sukma District in Chhattisgarh, K. Murali (24) and K. Nageswara Rao (40) of Dabbanootala village in Dummugudem Mandal in Khammam District of Andhra Pradesh, K Sammaiah (26) of Veerabhadrapuram village in Dummugudem Mandal and J. Hanumanthu (28) of Toggudem in Paloncha Mandal. As per the report, they were arrested during a vehicle check in the said village while they were transporting explosives stolen from stone crushing units to Maoist cadres. The Police have recovered 40 gelatin sticks, 40 detonators and 27 explosive boosters from their possession.

Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were arrested by Police from the outskirts of Konayapalem village at Enkoor in Khammam District of Telangana on March 16, reports Telangana Today. The arrested cadres were identified as Madakam Bhima, Madakam Anda, and Madakam Malla – all residents of Timirigudem Usoor block in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh. According to a Police Official, the trio joined CPI-Maoist in 2008. While Bhima was a ‘Grama Rakshana’ Dalam (armed squad) member, Anda and Malla were members of ‘Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sanghatan’ (DAKMS). They used to supply goods to Maoists and provide shelter when they visit villages. The Police recovered 23 detonators and two bundles of wire from their possession.

An imposter of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as Juvva Suresh (29), was arrested by the Police from a place near Nalgonda bypass road at Kondamallepally village in Nalgonda District of Telangana on May 4, reports Telangana Today. The Superintendent of Police (SP) A.V. Ranganath said Suresh, a native of Kondamallepally village in the District, sent messages and letters to several elected representatives in Devarakonda and Kondamallepally villages in the name of ErraDalam (armed squad) of CPI-Maoist and demanded money. The Police arrested him from the said place when he was moving suspiciously on a motorcycle. Upon the inquiry, he had confessed to his offences and told that he chose the way to earn easy money to clear his family’s debts. He was also accused of the murder of a person at Devarakonda. Four cases were filed against him under different sections, the SP added.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a key Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) sympathiser identified as, Nalamasa Krishna, vice-president of Telangana Praja Front (TPF) from Khammam District of Telangana on June 14, reports The New Indian Express. As per the report, Krishna was arrested for playing a key role in supporting and furthering the activities of CPI-Maoist. Earlier, the Jogulamba Gadwala District Police registered a case against Bandari Maddileti, president of the Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika (TVV), on similar charges. Based on the incriminating documents seized from Maddileti's residence, the NIA registered a fresh case in 2019 and started investigating. It found that Krishna regularly visited the top leaders of the CPI-Maoist in the forests of Chhattisgarh. He was instrumental in directing TPF, TVV, and others to take up various agitations in line with the organization’s strategy, said the NIA.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sharath Chandra Pawar said that a team of Venkatapuram Counter Intelligence (CI) along with his station personnel and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was conducting the vehicle checks on the outskirts of Alubaka village in Mulugu District on June 26 and found a person carrying a bag. “Growing suspicious over him, the Police took him into custody and searched his bag in which they found INR 17,40,000. On interrogation, he told the police that his name is Karam Jalapathi (30), a resident of Jarapally village of Usuru taluk (revenue sub-division) of Bijapur District in Chattishgarh State. He also added that he had been working for the Maoist party since 2006,” the ASP said adding that Jalapathi was on his way to hand over the cash to the leaders of the Maoist party. It is said that he had collected the cash from one Rajeshwar Reddy, who is working for a beedi leaf contractor Narayana Reddy. Following this, the Police had also searched the room of Rajeshwar Reddy at Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem District. “We have found revolutionary literature from the room of Rajeshwar Reddy. He also confessed that he had handed over the cash to Jalapathi to give to the Maoist leaders. Following this, we have also arrested Rajeshwar Reddy,” the ASP further added.

In one incident, Maoists exchanged fire with a team of Police in the forest near Thokkuguda village of Thiryani Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Komaram Bheem Asifabad District on July 14. No casualties were reported on any side and the Maoists escaped taking advantage of the dense forest. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishnu S. Warrier said, “around 10.30 p.m. on July 14, when Police parties were searching in Thokkuguda village, a Maoist Dalam (armed squad) carrying AK 47 and SLR weapons attempted to fire at us and we retaliated. As a result, the Dalam fled from the scene in the dark.” Following this incident, Police arrested a Maoist sympathiser – Kova Ananth Rao of Thokkuguda in Thiryani Mandal for sheltering the Maoist Dalam. According to the SP, Kova Ananth Rao gave food and shelter to the Dalam led by State Committee member Mailarepu Adellu alias Bhaskar. The sympathisers have been identified as – Bandi Sudhakar of Mamidigudem, a hamlet of Dubbagudem GP, Kalthi Sammaiah of Miryalapet, a hamlet of Dubbagudem GP, and Poleboina Saraiah of Dubbagudem village. According to the Superintendent of Police (SP) N. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shabarish P. said, one week ago, the couriers had attended a meeting of the Maoists of Manuguru Area Committee where the rebels handed over them the explosive materials and assigned them to carry out attacks on Police personnel by planting IEDs.
