Five sympathizer-cum-couriers of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were arrested with explosives in Jagannadhapuram village of Paloncha Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on February 29, reports The Times of India. The arrested couriers have been identified as, P. Saraiah (45), resident of Nimmalagudem in Kistaram Mandal of Sukma District in Chhattisgarh, K. Murali (24) and K. Nageswara Rao (40) of Dabbanootala village in Dummugudem Mandal in Khammam District of Andhra Pradesh, K Sammaiah (26) of Veerabhadrapuram village in Dummugudem Mandal and J. Hanumanthu (28) of Toggudem in Paloncha Mandal. As per the report, they were arrested during a vehicle check in the said village while they were transporting explosives stolen from stone crushing units to Maoist cadres. The Police have recovered 40 gelatin sticks, 40 detonators and 27 explosive boosters from their possession.

The Police personnel recovered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) literature, kit bags and other material from a Maoist camp in a forest area in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on March 11, reports Telangana Today. According to the Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Dutt, the Police had received information that four teams of the CPI-Maoist had entered into Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mulugu Districts from neighbouring Chhattisgarh State. Following the information, the Police had launched search operations in the forests of Manuguru, Edulla Bayyaram, Gundala, and Karakagudem in the District. “During the combing operation nearly seven Maoists ran away after spotting the Police leaving behind the material,” the SP said adding that solar panel, pen drives, the material of daily use were among the material seized by the Police.

Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were arrested by Police from the outskirts of Konayapalem village at Enkoor in Khammam District of Telangana on March 16, reports Telangana Today. The arrested cadres were identified as Madakam Bhima, Madakam Anda, and Madakam Malla – all residents of Timirigudem Usoor block in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh. According to a Police Official, the trio joined CPI-Maoist in 2008. While Bhima was a ‘Grama Rakshana’ Dalam (armed squad) member, Anda and Malla were members of ‘Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sanghatan’ (DAKMS). They used to supply goods to Maoists and provide shelter when they visit villages. The Police recovered 23 detonators and two bundles of wire from their possession.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres exchanged fire with Security Forces (SFs) in two separate incidents in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Komaram Bheem Asifabad Districts of Telangana on July 14 and July 15 respectively, reports The Times of India. In one incident, Maoists exchanged fire with a team of Police in the forest near Thokkuguda village of Thiryani Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Komaram Bheem Asifabad District on July 14. No casualties were reported on any side and the Maoists escaped taking advantage of the dense forest. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishnu S. Warrier said, “around 10.30 p.m. on July 14, when Police parties were searching in Thokkuguda village, a Maoist Dalam (armed squad) carrying AK 47 and SLR weapons attempted to fire at us and we retaliated. As a result, the Dalam fled from the scene in the dark.” Following this incident, Police arrested a Maoist sympathiser – Kova Ananth Rao of Thokkuguda in Thiryani Mandal for sheltering the Maoist Dalam. According to the SP, Kova Ananth Rao gave food and shelter to the Dalam led by State Committee member Mailarepu Adellu alias Bhaskar. In the second incident, Maoists exchanged fire with Police in Bhadradri Kothagudem District on July 15. A Policeman suffered a bullet injury, in the incident. Police recovered a weapon and 13 kit bags from the encounter spot.

Police arrested three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) sympathisers and recovered a dump of 414 live rounds of different weapons from a village under Dubbagudem Gram Panchayat (GP, village level local self-Government institution) limits in Gangaram Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Mahabubabad District of Telangana on August 2, reports Telangana Today. The sympathisers have been identified as – Bandi Sudhakar of Mamidigudem, a hamlet of Dubbagudem GP, Kalthi Sammaiah of Miryalapet, a hamlet of Dubbagudem GP, and Poleboina Saraiah of Dubbagudem village. According to the Superintendent of Police (SP) N. Koti Reddy, the trio had been working for the Maoists by providing logistic support by letting them stay at their respective villages. “A case was already registered against Poleboina Saraiah in 2006 in Kothaguda Police Station as he was supplying arms to the Maoists,” the SP said. The trio was trying to resort to some offence as a part of the ongoing ‘Maoist Martyrs Week’.

12 sympathiser-cum-couriers of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were arrested from two villages in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on August 21, reports Outlook. Police recovered gelatin sticks, detonators, electric wire and batteries supplied by the Maoists for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), from their possession. As per the report, since the last three years, all had been supplying Maoists essential items, including ration and vegetables, whenever they visited Manuguru Mandal (administrative sub-division) in the District. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shabarish P. said, one week ago, the couriers had attended a meeting of the Maoists of Manuguru Area Committee where the rebels handed over them the explosive materials and assigned them to carry out attacks on Police personnel by planting IEDs. The Maoists handed over to the couriers the explosive materials and instructed them to make IEDs and plant the devices in forest areas, targeting Police personnel. Kallu, is a resident of Gelur village in Pusubaka of Bijapur District, Chhattisgarh told Police during interrogation that he was part of Maoist’s children’s group and later started working as a courier for Papa Rao, a member of Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC). “Kallu supplies explosive material to Maoist party Dalams (armed squads). As per the directions of Papa Rao, he procured 150 detonators and two liquid boosters from an unknown person. We caught him while he was going to Chhattisgarh,” said Bhadrachalam Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Rajesh Chandra.

On receiving a tip-off, about 400 Greyhounds personnel carried out combing operations in Asifabad and Kagaznagar forest area. A group of six Maoists, led by State committee member – Bhaskar, tried to escape from the spot by firing on a few Greyhounds personnel. In the ensued gun-battle, two Maoists were killed. The Greyhounds recovered two weapons and books from the possession of the slain Maoists. The Times of India adds that one of the two slain Maoists were identified as Koya Verghese, from Chhattisgarh. The identity of the other is yet to be ascertained.

Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including two women, were killed in an exchange of fire with Police personnel in Chennapuram forest area under Charla Police Station limits in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on September 23, reports The New Indian Express. As Police personnel were combing the said area, several Maoists came into a face-off with the forces. When asked to surrender, the Maoists opened fire at the Police team, forcing the latter to open fire in self-defense, resulting in the death of three Maoists. While the remaining cadres managed to escape taking advantage of the dense forest, Police recovered one 8 mm rifle, blasting materials and other items from the spot. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Rajesh Chandra said, the arrested Maoist was identified as Kaluma Joga alias Sandeep of Puttapadu village of Kistaram area in Sukma District in Chhattisgarh. Joga joined CPI-Maoist outfit Bal Sangham (Maoist’s children squad) in the year 2007 and later served in ‘Jan Militia’ (people’s army of the CPI-Maoist) and ‘Bhumkal Militia’. He was now in the rank of ACM in the Maoist party’s 8th platoon led by Dudi Masa, and was accused in nine cases that included attacking and killing Police personnel. During interrogation, the trio revealed their identity as Vetti Bhimaraju alias Rakesh of Kristapurampadu, Sunnam Nageswar Rao alias Muttaiah and Velkam Pentaayya of Bhattinapalli in Cherla Mandal, and confessed that they were working as militia members for the banned Maoist party for the last three yearsand providing logistics to Maoist leaders Aruna, Rajitha and Madhu and militia leader Balu.The trio were involved in blasting a landmine at Pedda Midisileru two months back and planting pressure mines at Kaliveru in October, Cherla Inspector of Police (CI), B Ashok said.
