The Counter Intelligence (CI) Wing of Punjab Police arrested a narcotics smuggler and recovered 5.15 Kilogram of heroin, two pistols and ammunition from his possession in Ferozepur District of Punjab on January 1, reports The Tribune. The arrestee has been identified as Bhalwan Singh, a resident of Aliwala village in the said District. In a statement, The Additional Inspector General (AIG), CI, Ketan Baliram Patil said the Police recovered two pistols of .30 bore along with 10 live cartridges and two magazines from the accused. Official sources said the drug consignment was smuggled from Rajoke village in Ferozepur sector along International Border (IB) around three days ago. Smugglers on the other side of the border, taking the advantage of dense fog, had thrown the contraband over the fence. Bhalwan worked as a carrier of drugs. He had reportedly taken INR 2, 50,000 for delivering the consignment. “Investigations are underway to identify the person to whom it was meant to be delivered,” said an Official.

The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered 22 kilogram of heroin smuggled from Pakistan at the International Border out Post (BOP) at Chontra in Gurdaspur sector in Gurdaspur District of Punjab on January 17, reports The Tribune. As per the report, the BSF troops saw some movement near the fencing at Chontra post and opened fire, after which some smugglers ran towards the Pakistani side. After which the BSF conducted a search following which they recovered 22 packets comprising around 22 kilogram of heroin, 90 rounds and two magazines of ammunition, WiFi connectors, two smart phones, a normal phone and a pipe.

As per the report, the team raided the hideout in a flat in block B of The Eminence housing society in Singhpura in Zirakpur town in Mohali and recovered one AK-47, one sniper rifle, hand grenades, two pistols and few lakhs of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) from the possession of the suspect.

The Moga Police have recovered 4.290 kilograms of heroin, of an international market value of INR 210 million from the International Border (IB) in Ferozepur District of Punjab on March 24, reports The Tribune. According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmanbir Singh Gill, one Bagicha Singh, a resident of Chugee village in the said District, was arrested by the local Police from Dharamkot bus stand in Moga District with 50 grams of heroin on March 20. During investigation, he revealed that another consignment of more than 2 kilograms of heroin was smuggled from Pakistan into his fields across the fencing along the IB. Following which, Moga Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jangjit Singh and Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) staff in-charge Kikkar Singh visited the fields of the accused and recovered four plastic bottles filled with heroin along with a .30 bore pistol. Further investigations revealed that the accused had been getting consignments of contraband from his counterparts in Pakistan for the past few years.

The personnel of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered nine kilograms of heroin in separate incidents in Punjab on March 23, reports The Tribune. In one incident, personnel of CIA and BSF recovered 4.27 kilograms of heroin from an area close to the border outpost Bareke along the India-Pakistan border in Ferozepur District. According to the Officials, the consignment was stored in four plastic bottles. A China-made pistol was also seized along with the contraband. In another incident, the BSF troopers recovered three packets of heroin weighing around 3.25 kilograms in the Abohar sector in Fazilka District of the State. Another 1.48 kilograms of heroin were recovered from Behram Shersingh Wala village at Guruharsahai city in Ferozepur District. Also, a person, identified as Gurdev Singh was arrested in this connection in the District.

The Police arrested a wanted gangster identified as, Baljinder Singh alias Billa, who allegedly had links with slain Pakistan-based Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) ‘chief’ Harmeet Singh Happy and Germany-based Bagga of the Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) from Jalandhar District of Punjab on May 8, reports The Tribune. The Police also arrested five associates of Baljinder identified as – Sukhjinder Singh of Kamoke Beas village in Amritsar; Mohit Sharma of Kapurthala, Lovepreet Singh alias Lovely of Amarkot in Tarn Taran; Mangal Singh and Maninderjeet Singh alias Happy. As per the report, acting on a tip-off, an Amritsar rural Police team raided a spot near the said location and arrested the duo. The Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta said the duo was preparing to carry out a series of terror attacks and targeted killings at the behest of their Pakistani mentors and handlers. A German-made MP5 sub-machine gun, a 9-mm pistol with four magazines and two mobile phones with a host of incriminatory conversations, messages, and photographs were recovered from their possession. The mobile phones revealed suspicious transactions with Pakistan-based elements, including photographs, voice messages as well as coordinates of a particular geolocation. The Delhi Police busted a module of Sikh separatist outfit – Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) and arrested its three sympathisers who were allegedly planning to execute target killings and extortions in various north Indian States on the directions of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)-sponsored Khalistani leaders, reports Hindustan Times on June 28. The trio, identified as – Mohinder Pal Singh (29), Gurtej Singh (41) and Lovepreet Singh (21), were arrested from Delhi, Punjab and Haryana in separate operations by the Delhi Police’s Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) and Special Cell. In the first incident, personnel of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and 29th Battalion of Border Security Force (BSF) in a joint operation recovered 7.14 kilograms heroin worth INR 350 million near Border Out-Post (BOP) Dona Telu Mall in Ferozepur sector of Ferozepur District. A pistol, two magazines, 10 live rounds and two Pakistani SIM cards were also seized. The SFs have filed a case against a person identified as Bittu, a resident of Palla Begha village in this connection. In the second incident, the anti-narcotic cell arrested three persons and recovered 1.4 kilograms of heroin from them at Joliyan village in Sangrur District. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sandeep Garg said, “Our team arrested Amrik Singh, his wife Harpal Kaur, and Sarbjit Singh from the said village and confiscated 1.4 kilograms heroin from their possession. The Director General of Police (DGP), Dinkar Gupta said the gangsters were allegedly involved in smuggling weapons from across the border into India. “A bulletproof jacket and a .455 bore pistol provided by gangster Gopi Ghanshampuriya, two Glock 09 mm pistols with four live cartridges, one pump action 12 bore rifle, one .32 bore revolver, one .30 bore pistol and live cartridges were recovered from them,” said the DGP. Also, during preliminary interrogation, Gora revealed that he was in close contact with Baljinder Singh Billa Mandiala, who was well connected with Pakistan-based drugs and arms smugglers, Mirza and Ahmdeen, and had received many consignments of weapons and drugs from them in the Ferozepur area. “Pakistani drug-arms smuggler Mirza has been working as a courier on Indo-Pak border for the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) and had smuggled many weapon consignments into India,” the DGP added.

Punjab Police arrested a Constable of the Border Security Force (BSF), identified as, Rajendra Prashad and two local smugglers, Surmail Singh and Gurjant Singh, for cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons, reports Hindustan Times on August 2. According to Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta, acting on a tip-off, a Jalandhar Rural Police team, on July 26, arrested Surmail Singh and Gurjant Singh, who were travelling in a car from Delhi. The Police had recovered 25 gm of heroin from them. On questioning, the duo led to the recovery of a .30 Bore Pistol (Made in China) with 5 live rounds and INR 2.45 million as well as 35 gm of heroin. During further questioning, the duo also revealed that they were working with a cross-border smuggler, Satnam Singh alias Satta, a resident of Taran Tarn District who was closely linked with Pakistan-based smugglers for smuggling of drugs and weapons from Pakistan. They also disclosed that BSF Constable, Rajendra Prashad, posted at a border outpost at Chhina village in Tarn Taran District was a part of the smuggling racket, following which he was arrested. The DGP said out of INR 2.45 million, INR 1.5 million was recovered from the residence of Satnam Singh, INR 500,000 from the BSF constable and INR 450,000 lakh from Gurjant Singh.

The STF recovered 5.392 kg of heroin, a .315 bore rifle with cartridges, a .12 bore pump action gun, a .32 bore revolver along with cartridges and INR 2.1 million from their possession. Apart from this, luxury cars, including a Toyota Fortuner, an Audi 7, two Toyota Innovas, two BMWs, a Mercedes Benz and a Jaguar were recovered from the smugglers. In a press conference, STF Inspector General (IG) Balkar Singh said, the accused were active members of a high-level international drug network being run from Australia by Tanveer Singh Bedi of Batala.

The Punjab Police on November 18 arrested a Border Security Force (BSF) constable and two others in connection with the recovery of 11 kilograms of heroin smuggled from Pakistan along with INR 1.925 million from four drug smugglers on November 17, reports The Tribune. The BSF Constable – Barinder Singh was arrested from the BSF premises at Ganganagar in Sri Ganganagar District of Rajasthan. A .30 bore foreign-made pistol, a motorcycle and 745 grams of heroin was recovered from him. Following his interrogation, two other accused—Balkar Singh Balli and Jagmohan Singh Jaggu—both residents of Ganganagar were arrested. A .30 bore pistol and Rs 8 lakh in cash were recovered from Balkar Singh. Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta said the BSF constable was “instrumental” in transferring drugs from across the Indo-Pak border and handing them over to the other accused.

Besides the heroin, two desi .32 bore pistols and a car bearing registration number JK-012-E-2277 have also been recovered from the accused, who used to bring drugs from Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) on instructions from imprisoned gangsters in Punjab. The drug cartel’s links have been traced to a Dubai-based individual, who is allegedly involved in networking the drug smugglers in Kashmir for supply of drugs to smugglers and traffickers based in Punjab. According to Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta, the investigations so far suggest that the proceeds generated from the sale of the drugs, smuggled into Punjab from Kashmir, were probably being used to fund terror activities.

Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), BSF, said the troopers on hearing the buzzing sound of a drone in the late night of December 19 near Chakri outpost, fired multiple shots towards the source. The Police authorities were alerted and a joint search operation was initiated leading to the recovery of the grenades on the following day. The 11 grenades of Arges-type HG-84 were placed in a neatly packed wooden box. The drone, however, was not recovered and it is suspected that it managed to fly back to Pakistan after dropping the payload.

The Punjab Police on December 22 recovered an AK-47 rifle and a magazine with 30 live cartridges evidently dropped by the Pakistani drone in Border Outpost (BOP) Chakri under Dorangala Police Station limits in Gurdaspur District, reports The Pioneer. The Police maintained that the arms were evidently a part of the same consignment (11 hand grenades) that was dropped by a Pakistani drone previously in the area on December 20. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta said that an extensive search operation had been launched by the Gurdaspur Police in the area where the drone, which was fired at by the Police and the Border Security Force (BSF), was sighted on December 20.
