At least five soldiers were killed after terrorists launched a cross-border attack from Afghanistan on the Army troops stationed in Kurram District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on February 6, reports Dawn. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that the Pakistani troops responded befittingly to the attack, adding that as per “intelligence reports” the “terrorists suffered heavy causalities”. The five soldiers that were killed during the exchange of fire included 34-year-old Lance Naik Ajab Noor (resident of Karachi, Sindh), 22-year-old Sepoy Ziaullah Khan (resident of Lakki Marwat, KP), 23-year-old Sepoy Naheed Iqbal (resident of Karak, KP), 18-year-old Sepoy Sameerullah Khan (resident of Bannu, KP) and 27-year-old Sepoy Sajid Ali (resident of Bahawalnagar, Punjab). Five terrorists and one soldier were during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted by the Security Forces in North Waziristan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on February 20, reports Geo News. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said SFs had launched the operation after receiving reports related to the presence of terrorists in the area. During the operation, the SFs and the terrorist got involved in an “intense exchange of fire” that led to the killing of the terrorist. Four out of the five terrorists were identified as Habib Nawaz, Waheed Ullah, Abdur Rehman, and Muhammad Ullah. Meanwhile, the identification of the fifth terrorist is in progress, said the ISPR. The killed soldier was identified as 28-year-old Sepoy Shabbir Ahmed, a resident of Quetta (Balochistan). “Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the hideout of the killed terrorists which include submachine guns, hand grenades and a large number of multiple calibre rounds,” the statement added. The slain terrorists were involved in terrorist activities against SFs, target killing, and kidnapping for ransom, statement added further.

According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted on the reported presence to terrorists in the area. The killed terrorists were identified as Muhammad Ali, Mateeullah, Muhammad Umar, Akhtar Hussain, Sher and Waseem, the ISPR said, adding that they were involved in terrorist activities against security forces, target killings and kidnappings for ransom. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) killed three terrorists in a shootout at Regi Lalma area of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on March 8, reports The Express Tribune. According to CTD, the three terrorists were part of a network involved in the suicide attack on Peshawar's Kocha Risaldar imambargah that left 63 dead on March 4. The militants were also responsible for other terrorist attacks on law enforcement agencies including killing Police personnel, CTD added. According to CTD, the terrorists were entering Peshawar with the intention of carrying out terrorist activities in Khyber District before being killed in the encounter. Automatic weapons, grenades and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain terrorists.

Nine persons including two soldiers, three civilians and four terrorists were killed during a terrorist attack in Bajaur District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reports The Express Tribune. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the terrorists fired on security forces in Bloro area of the District which initiated a response from the security forces. "Resultantly, four terrorists were killed. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists," it added. The statement added that during the intense exchange of fire, Naib Subedar Ishtiaq, a 44-year-old resident of Nowshera and Sepoy Kamran, a 21-year-old resident of Orakzai, embraced martyrdom after having fought gallantly. The statement further said that due to terrorists’ fire three innocent civilians – Asmat, Ilham and Bahadur – also embraced martyrdom.

Four soldiers were killed in Hassan Khel area of North Waziristan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during an exchange of fire with terrorists who attempted to infiltrate into Pakistan from Afghanistan in the night between March 23 and March 24, reports Dawn. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a group of terrorists tried to infiltrate into Pakistan at midnight, but their attempt was foiled due to the alertness and timely response of army troops. The terrorists, however, retaliated by opening fire, the statement said, adding that the soldiers reciprocated in a befitting manner. The killed soldiers have been identified as Lance Havaldar Wajahat Alam (34), Sepoy Sajjid lnayat (25), Sepoy Maqbool Hayat (32) and Sepoy Sajjid Ali (22).

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Security Forces (SFs) on December 10 killed four Islamic State Khorasan (IS-K) terrorists in the mountainous area near the Pak-Afghan border of Dardoni in North Waziristan District, reports Dawn. According to a CTD press release, the terrorists from IS-K were killed in retaliatory fire by a team conducting an intelligence-based joint operation upon receiving a tip-off that the terrorists from Afghanistan were crossing the border. The slain terrorists were the IS-K’s local commander Mohammad Dawood Yaqoob, Abdullah Khan and Mohammad Laiq Piauddin. A fourth terrorist could not be identified. Two hand grenades, two Kalashnikov rifles, six magazine storages, two pistols and dozens of cartridges along with Pakistani currency, identification documents and other valuables were recovered from the possession of slain terrorists.

Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry while speaking to a local TV channel on divulged the details of the operation. Major General Ahmed said that on December 18, a detained terrorist overpowered a duty constable at the CTD complex inside Bannu cantonment, snatching his weapon and freeing 34 other terrorists held at the facility. “As soon as they came out of lockup, the terrorists got more weapons from the arms depot and started firing in the compound,” he added. Two CTD constable were killed. The DG ISPR said the terrorist took a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) hostage and demanded that the authorities provide them safe passage to Afghanistan. The authorities rejected their demands and launched an operation on the CTD complex on December 19 as the terrorists were not ready to surrender, he added. During the gun battle, the DG ISPR said, the Security Forces (SFs) killed 25 terrorists. Three terrorists were arrested and seven surrendered, he added. Three SF personnel were killed in the operation who were identified as Subedar Major Khurshid Akram, Sepoy Saeed and Sepoy Babar. Ten soldiers, including two officers, were also injured in the operation, he added further.

A press release from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that troops “effectively engage[d]” the terrorists’ location and an “intense fire exchange” took place during which 25-year-old Sepoy Muhammad Waseem, a resident of Khairpur, fought “gallantly” and was martyred.
