Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) 'commander' and the mastermind of 2008 Mumbai terror attacks (also known as 26/11) Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi was arrested on December 30 in 2008 kidnapping case of Anwar Khan who refused Lakhvi to join him in jihad (holy war), reports The Express Tribune. His arrest was made a day after Islamabad High Court (IHC) had suspended his detention order. The complainant in the case is one Muhammad Dawood who said that his brother-in-law, Anwar Khan was kidnapped by Lakhvi and his accomplices when he refused to join jihad, and is missing since then. The complainant had not reported to the Police when the incident took place because he alleged that Lakhvi had threatened that he would kill Anwar if he registered a case. According to details, Lakhvi was granted bail on December 18, 2014 by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) but was immediately detained by the Islamabad administration under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). Subsequently, he challenged his detention in the IHC, which on December 29, 2014 granted him conditional bail against surety bonds of PKR 1 million. Hours after he was released from the high-security Adiala jail in Rawalpindi District, Lakhvi was arrested by the capital Police for his alleged involvement in a kidnapping case registered with the Golra Police Station. Shortly after his arrest, he was presented before a Duty Magistrate, Malik Aman, who sent him on a two-day physical remand. However, Lakhvi's lawyer, Rizwan Abbasi, opposed a physical remand of his client, saying it was surprising that the FIR of an alleged abduction was lodged more than six year after the incident. “It is not written anywhere in the FIR that Anwar Khan was forcibly picked up,” he argued. “Wherever he [Anwar Khan] went, he went on his own choosing,” the lawyer said, adding that Lakhvi was arrested in a concocted case The judge sent Lakhvi on a two-day physical remand and directed the Police to present him before the court on January 1, 2015.

At least 19 civilians, including 10 women and four children, were killed and more than 50 others were injured in gang war clashes among rival gangsters, Uzair Baloch, Ghaffar Zikri and Baba Ladla on March 12 in Gahribshah locality of Lyari Town in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports The Express Tribune. Violence triggered after the March 10, 2014, killing of five relatives of Baba Ladla. However, violence continued on March 12 after the killing of a brother of Ghaffar Zikri, the head honcho of another powerful gang allied with the Baba Ladla group, in an alleged encounter with the law enforcers. According to details, the two gangs suspected that their rival, Uzair Baloch, the head of the People’s Amn Committee (PAC), was behind these killings. Gangsters from Baba Ladla and Ghaffar Zikri groups, armed with Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and automatic weapons, decided to avenge the deaths of their cadres, said the insiders. “They mounted the attack after reaching the Rangiwara locality, the stronghold of Baba Ladla group, on Gharibshah, the bastion of the Uzair Baloch group,” said one of the insiders. “However, stiff resistance checked their march and the two sides rained bullets and rockets on each other from a distance.” Most of the casualties were caused when shoppers in the busy Jhatpat Market, which serves as a buffer between Rangiwara and Gharibshah, were caught up in the cross-fire. “Jhatpat Market is a Line of Control between the two gangs,” said another insider. “Innocent shoppers and traders in Jhatpat Market had fell victim to the gang war,” he added. Separately, the Rangers claimed to have killed at least nine suspects and arrested 56 others in Lyari after the clash, reported The News. According to sources the suspects killed by Rangers were affiliated with Baba Ladla group.
