The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on April 24 conducted 16 information-based operations (IBOs) in different Districts of Punjab and arrested seven suspects along with arms and ammunitions, reports Daily Times. According to a spokesman, the CTD teams recovered 885 grams explosives, six detonators, safety fuse 9 feet, 66 banned / hate materials, PKR 41,210 in cash and three mobile phones from the possession of the arrested accused. The arrested suspects were identified as Abdul Aziz, Rasheed Ahmad, Muhammad Arshad Jamal, Ghulam Hussain, Atiqur Rehman, Abdul Aziz and Muhammad Awais. They all belonged to banned organisations.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on August 1 arrested two cadres of Sindh Revolutionary Army (SRA) from Hyderabad District of Sindh, reports ARY News. Azhar Ahmed, one of the SRA cadres, was involved in blast at the railway line in Gambat area of Khairpur District in Sindh in 2014, the CTD said. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on December 15 arrested a terrorist, identified as Akmal, from Rawalpindi city of Punjab, reports Samaa TV. Akmal was the mastermind of the Civil Lines suicide attack on November 2, 2009, which claimed the lives of 36 people. A spokesperson for the CTD said that the terrorist had devised plans to attack Islamabad and Rawalpindi. A cache of explosives, including four detonators and safety fuses used to make suicide vests, were also recovered from the possession of arrested terrorist. “A military court has already announced its verdict and found his two accomplices guilty in the attack,” the spokesperson said, adding that the two accomplices of the alleged terrorist are currently serving their sentence in Rawalpindi prison.

At least 25 terrorists and three soldiers were killed during a rescue operation at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Police Station in the cantonment area of Bannu town (Bannu District) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on December 20, reports The Express Tribune. Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry while speaking to a local TV channel on divulged the details of the operation. Major General Ahmed said that on December 18, a detained terrorist overpowered a duty constable at the CTD complex inside Bannu cantonment, snatching his weapon and freeing 34 other terrorists held at the facility. “As soon as they came out of lockup, the terrorists got more weapons from the arms depot and started firing in the compound,” he added. Two CTD constable were killed. The DG ISPR said the terrorist took a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) hostage and demanded that the authorities provide them safe passage to Afghanistan. The authorities rejected their demands and launched an operation on the CTD complex on December 19 as the terrorists were not ready to surrender, he added. During the gun battle, the DG ISPR said, the Security Forces (SFs) killed 25 terrorists. Three terrorists were arrested and seven surrendered, he added. Three SF personnel were killed in the operation who were identified as Subedar Major Khurshid Akram, Sepoy Saeed and Sepoy Babar. Ten soldiers, including two officers, were also injured in the operation, he added further.

The press release said that five detonators, banned literature including 39 pamphlets, stickers and a receipt book of an outlawed organization, and Rs 22,870 cash were recovered from them. It added that two cell phones and a 3.8-metre-long safety wire were also obtained from the arrested suspects. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on June 12 foiled an attempt of another bomb explosion in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, as it recovered and diffused an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a motorcycle, reports Samaa TV. Acting on a tip-off, CTD stopped a suspected motorcyclist during checking and recovered a two-kilogrammes IED planted in it. The suspect was arrested and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) immediately defused the explosive device. A remote control and a pistol were also recovered from the suspect’s possession. The suspect was identified as Nizamuddin alias Khalid who confessed during the investigation that he was part of a nine-member terrorist group that carried out several terrorist activities including a suicide attack martyring Deputy Inspector General of Police Hamid Shakeel. A commander of the Islamic State Khorasan chapter (IS-K) and mastermind of suicide attack on Koocha Risaldar Shia mosque on March 4, was killed along with a would-be suicide bomber in an early morning raid in the Wali Abad area of Pishtakhara in Peshawar on May 14, reports Dawn. The intelligence-based operation was carried out by the Counter-Terrorism Department over the reported presence of IS-K commander Hassan Shah along with a suicide bomber in the Wali Abad area. An unnamed Police official said that they were planning to hit a church in Peshawar. Hassan Shah was among the two handlers of the suicide bomber, who had blown himself up among the worshippers in Koocha Risaldar mosque, killing over 60 and injuring more than 200 others. The official said the IS-K terrorist had escaped to Karachi after the attack. However, the official said he was again called to the province, apparently to carry out major attacks. Police on May 16 arrested six Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) cadres from Nasirabad of Larkana District in Sindh and recovered two hand-grenades and four pistols from them, reports Dawn. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on May 24 arrested five cadres of Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) from different areas of Sindh, reports The Balochistan Post. The CTD said it had arrested three BLA cadres from Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh. A cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the arrested cadres, including 11 hand grenades, 50 detonators and 15 safety fuses. CTD said the BLA cadres were involved in an attack targeting the Army convoy in 2005. They had also transported over 22 kilos of explosives from Jacobabad to Sukkur in January 2022. Separately, the CTD identified the SRA cadres as Manzoor Hussain who was arrested in Subhan Colony of Hyderabad city (Hyderabad District). The CTD claimed that he was involved in the bomb blasts in Saddar, Karachi, and the Hyderabad Railway Track. CTD said that Hussain was also the mastermind of various attacks targeting the Security Forces (SFs). CTD added that Hussain had made a “failed attempt” to conduct an IED blast on March 23, Pakistan Day.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on November 3 arrested one Sindh Revolutionary Army (SRA) terrorist from Gulistan-i-Jauhar area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, who allegedly intended to kill a Chinese doctor in Hyderabad and was associated with the perpetrators of a similar attack on Chinese dentists in Karachi in September, reports Dawn. A statement by the CTD spokesperson, the CTD’s personnel and a Federal intelligence agency conducted an operation in Gulistan-i-Jauhar after receiving information about the suspect’s presence in the area. They subsequently arrested a cadre of SRA, identified as Afzal Lund alias Aafi, the statement said, adding that a 30-bore unlicensed pistol along with a 5-round magazine and a motorcycle were seized from his possession. The CTD said the suspect had admitted during interrogation that he had been in contact with SRA chief Zulfiqar Khaskheli, who was in Germany. Khaskheli was providing financial assistance to Lund and it was with the money sent by him that the latter had bought weapons and the motorcycle, according to the statement. The CTD said Lund had completed the recce for killing the Chinese doctor in Hyderabad but was arrested before carrying out the attack.

According to District Central Police, the SFs in collaboration with “federal sensitive institutions” carried out an operation in the Super Market area and arrested a suspect, Sohaib Tariq alias Usman, allegedly linked with AQIS. During interrogation, the suspect revealed that through a man named Talha, he allegedly came in touch with AQIS camp in charge in Afghanistan’s Bramcha in 2019, the statement said. Later, he went to Afghanistan where he allegedly got one-month military training in the said camp. He also met with two Indian citizens, namely Abdul Rehman and Taha, who were also linked with AQIS and living in Bramcha, the statement added. After receiving training, he remained in touch with the AQIS leadership in Afghanistan and subsequently, he became associated with the publishing/media section of the banned group. His other accomplices, namely Mohammed alias Arman, Abu Urwa and Abdul Manan, had already been arrested, which prompted him to go underground in Karachi.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel arrested two alleged terrorists associated with a banned outfit during a raid near Khairpur in Sukkur District of Sindh on September 6, reports ARY News. The CTD spokesperson said in a statement that two ‘terrorists’ namely Aziz Domki and Mitha Khan Makki were arrested during a raid near Khairpur. “Both suspects received terrorism training in Afghanistan and were involved in anti-state activities.” The spokesperson added that the arrested terrorists were experts in Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and explosive material installation. It was learnt that the terrorists were also involved in brainwashing common citizens in different cities and facilitating them to go to Afghanistan.
