Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres blew up two mobile towers by planting explosives during the resistance day from January 21 to 26, before the Jharkhand and Bihar Bandh (general shut down strike) called on 27 January 2022, by the Maoists in protest against the arrest of ‘politburo member’ cum Eastern Regional Bureau ‘secretary’ Prashant Bose alias Kishan Da (77) and his wife Sheela Marandi alias Sheela Di, who were arrested on November 12, 2021, in Khukra and Madhuban under Pirtand Block (administrative unit) in Giridih District of Jharkhand on January 21, reports prabhatkhabar.com. The resistance day of CPI-Maoist organization has started from January 21, and the Maoists have given a call to make the resistance day a success by putting up posters at the spot. Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres on January 23 blew up an INR 130 million bridge on Barakar River in Giridih District of Jharkhand, reports The Indian Express. Giridih Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anil Kumar Singh said the blast took place on the bridge, between Baragada and Lurango, under Dumri Police Station limits at around 2.30 am [IST] on January 23. The foundation for the bridge was laid in 2018 under the Mukhyamanti Gram Setu Yojana and it was inaugurated a month ago. The CPI-Maoist is observing a ‘resistance week’ in protest against the arrest of Prashant Bose alias Kishan Da, the ‘secretary’ of the CPI-Maoist’s ‘Eastern Regional Bureau’, who was in charge of insurgent activities in several States, including Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. It has called for a bandh (general shut down strike) in Bihar and Jharkhand on January 27.

On January 30, an improvised explosive device (IED) blast occurred in front of a liquor store adjacent to Delhi Mistan Bhandar in Police Bazaar of Khyndai Lad in Shillong at East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya, reports The Shillong Times. Though no casualty was reported, yet the front portions of a mobile phone store and wine shop was damaged. According to Police sources, gelatine and wires were found at the blast spot, indicating a crude explosive device. Strongly condemning the blast, Chief Minister (CM) Conrad K. Sangma, “This cowardly act is an attempt to disrupt peace and bring harm. Perpetrators will not be spared and we will ensure peace prevails in the state.” Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui in Twitter said that the suspects have been identified. This is the third blast to have rocked the state in the last six months. Earlier, on August 10 and July 14 of 2021, IED blasts took place Laitumkhrah Market of Shillong and Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills respectively. Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) had claimed responsibility for both the blasts.

Though no causalities were reported, yet the blast damaged a part of the office and created a crater about one foot in diameter. It is to be mentioned that election observer, police and expenditure observer were stationed at Forest guest house at that time. Meanwhile, Tangkhul Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) namely Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL), and four Zonal chairmen strongly condemned the bomb attack and appealed to all to desist from repeating such acts in the future.

Four other construction workers who were staying at the community hall and involved in the construction of a water supply tank were also injured in the explosion.
