Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed a 38-year-old mentally challenged man accusing him of acting as a ‘police informer’ in a village in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 1, reports News18. A senior Police official said, a group of Maoist ‘Jan Militia’ (people’s army of Maoists) members on January 1 night dragged the victim, identified as Hemant Bandi, out of his house in Timmapur village under Basaguda Police Station limits, located about 400 km from the State capital Raipur, and brutally killed him with sharp-edged weapons. Maoists claimed Bandi had informed Police about their location ahead of an encounter in 2018, the official said.

A 28-year-old man identified as Mahesh Baghel was shot dead after accusing him of being a ‘police informer’ by cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) at a local market in Badrangi village under Koyalibeda Police Station limits in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh on January 3, reports devdiscourse.com. Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP), Shalabh Sinha, said, "The motive behind the killing is not immediately known as the Naxals did not leave any pamphlet etc at the spot. Prima facie it seems they suspected him of acting as a police informer. Efforts are on to nab the culprits."

According to the information, two youths and a woman are among the dead, and one of the youths killed is identified as Kamalu Punem, while the woman is identified as Mangi. The identity of the third youth killed is yet to be ascertained. Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed the youth by thrashing him with a stick in Kalwar village in Rajnandgaon District of Chhattisgarh on January 11 night, reports naidunia.com. More than half a dozen uniformed Maoists reached Kalwar village on Tuesday night and picked up Ramji Gond, a resident of Kalwar village under Madanwada Police Station area of the district, from the house and took him to the drain near Ghudpal village on Kanker Road, and thrashed him to death accusing him of being a ‘Police informer’. When Ramji did not reach home till the next day morning, the family members started searching for him, and found his dead body lying near the drain on the unpaved road.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres have beaten to death a villager identified as Jagat Sodhi (50), a resident of Ketulnar, with sticks accusing him of being a ‘Police informer’ in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh early on January 11, reports bhaskar.com. It is being told that in the intervening night of January 10-11, around 15 to 20 Maoists of Indravati Area Committee carried out the incident in Kutru Police Station area. Sodhi was sleeping in the house with his family, when the Maoists came and threw him out of the house and started beating him mercilessly with a stick, accusing him of being an informer. Sodhi used to run a shop in his village from which he used to earn a lot of income. Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Abhinav Upadhyay has confirmed the incident and said prima facie it appears that the Maoists must have demanded money from the villager, and he was killed for not giving the ‘levy’ (extortion money). Jagat died on the spot due to the beating of Maoists, and after carrying out the incident, the Maoists escaped towards the forest.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres shot dead a Congress worker in Tadmer village in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on February 9, reports abplive.com. This incident took place late on February 9 night when Ghanshyam Mandavi, the husband of the lady Sarpanch (head of the Panchayat, village-level local self-Government institution) of Adawali Panchayat and a Congress worker, had come to Tadmer village to attend the wedding ceremony. The Maoists arrived in plain clothes there, called Mandavi and shot him dead outside the wedding ceremony, and fled from the spot after carrying out the incident. Although the reason for the murder has not been revealed yet, but it is being told that the Maoists have executed the killing by accusing him of an ‘Police informer’.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres reportedly killed a man by slitting his throat suspecting him to be a ‘Police informer’ in Kandhamal District of Odisha on February 15, reports The New Indian Express. The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Kapila Majhi of Guma village under Bhandrangi Panchayat (village level local-self-Government institution) within Tumudibandh Police Station limits. Sources said Majhi was abducted by a group of at least 10 armed Maoists from his home late in the night on February 14. The rebels slit his throat before leaving the village. Majhi’s body was recovered in the morning. The Maoists also left some posters near his body.

Maoists dumped the dead body in the middle of the road from Koyalibeda to Markanar road. A Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] leaflet in the name of the Rawghat Area Committee has also been seen on the dead body, in which the Maoists accused the youth to be a ‘Police informer’, who informed the presence of Maoists in the forests, to the Police. The body of the forest camp assistant was dumped near a resort close to Kanha’s Mukki Gate. The Maoist kill squad left leaflets on victim Sukhdev Parte’s body, threatening forest officers to stop ‘GPS-based’ patrolling in forest ranges. The Maoist leaflets warned rangers of Mukki, Bhesanghat, Kanha, Kisli, Sari and Motinala ranges to stop GPS-based patrolling. In the pamphlets and posters, the ultras stated that Rout was punished as he was a ‘police informer’. He had link with the Nuapada SP [Superintendent of Police] and was working as an SPO [Special Police Officer]. The deceased was identified as Ananta Rout (36), a native of Chhattisgarh but had relocated to Dhekunpani more than a decade ago. A group of around 15 armed Maoists stormed Khadkarao village located on Odisha-Chhattisgarh border late on August 26 night and barged into the house of the victim, identified as Ramlal Podai, and dragged him out of his house and took him to a place on the outskirt of the village where they slit his throat, Police said, adding that the assailants also left some poster and a hand-written letter near the body of the young man. The letter recovered from the site accused Podai of functioning as an informer for the Police and said he was punished for passing on information about the activities of the Maoists in the area. According to sources, a total of five CPI-Maoist cadres entered Gopal's house and he was dragged out. The family members requested the Maoists to leave him. But the leader stabbed Gopal with knives and an axe in front of the family members. The Maoists left him dead in a pool of blood. A letter by CPI-Maoist Venkatapuram-Wazeedu Area Committee was left at the spot. The letter stated that the deceased has been working as a ‘police informer’ and hence he was punished.
