A Special Task Force (STF) constable was injured during a fierce encounter between the Security Force (SFs) and Communist party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres in the Dongerjog Forest area in Gariyaband District of Chhattisgarh on January 2, reports The Times of India. STF chief Vijay Pandey said that the security personnel were conducting a search operation when the rebels opened fire, leading to an encounter at Dongerjog Forest area. A constable Yuvaraj Sagar, who had sustained bullet injuries on his abdomen, airlifted to the State capital, Raipur, for treatment at a super specialty hospital, and his condition was reported to be stable.

Former Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Manoharpur, Gurucharan Nayak, on January 4 narrowly escaped a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) attack, but the Maoists slit the throats of his two Policemen bodyguards and snatched three AK-47 rifles before escaping from the spot in Jheelruwa village in Goilkera Police Station limits in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand, reports outlookindia.com. Chakradharpur, Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Dilip Khalkho said that the attack by CPI-Maoist outfit took place in Jheelruwa village in Goilkera Police Station area after a football match in which Nayak was the chief guest. "Soon after the local football match was over, the Maoists, who were in the crowd of football-watchers, suddenly attacked Nayak. He somehow managed to escape with the help of his policemen bodyguards. The Maoists, however, slit the throats of his two policemen bodyguards and snatched their AK-47 rifles. They also snatched a similar rifle from another security personnel and fled the spot," SDPO, Khalkho said. According to villagers the Maoists were more than 25 in numbers, adds The New India Express. Earlier also, Nayak had a close shave in a Maoist attack at Anandpur in Harta region. The Maoists had also pasted posters at his residence giving life threats to him a few years back.

A Policeman and a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militant were killed while three Army soldiers and two civilians were injured in a gunfight in the Pariwan area of Kulgam District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the night of January 12, reports Greater Kashmir. The encounter broke out shortly after Security Forces cordoned off the area following inputs about the presence of militants there. "One police personnel SgCt Rohit Chhib attained martyrdom, 03 Army soldiers got injured. 02 civilians also got minor injuries. 01 terrorist of terror outfit JeM killed. Three persons, including a Levies man, a Policeman and a terrorist were killed in two separate incidents in North Waziristan and Lower Dir districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on January 18, reports The Express Tribune. In the first incident a Police Constable, identified as Aminullah was killed and two others sustained injuries when a Police mobile was ambushed in Mir Ali sub-division of North Waziristan District late on January 17. Police said that the mobile was on its way from Bannu to Miranshah after escorting IDPs to Bannu camp. In a separate incident in Lower Dir District, miscreants attacked a Levies check post on the border of Bajaur and Lower Dir on January 18 in which one Levies man Qaisar Mehmood was killed and another Sher Ali was injured. In the return fire, a terrorist was also killed.

Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were killed in an encounter with the Police in Venkatapuram (Nuguru) Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Mulugu District of Telangana close to Chhattisgarh border in the early hours of January 18 (today), reports Telangana Today. Sources said a constable of Greyhounds, the elite anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] squad of Telangana State, sustained injuries in the incident. It is suspected that ‘divisional’ level leaders of the outlawed CPI-Maoist were killed in the exchange of fire between Police and Maoists as an INSAS [Indian Small Arms System] assault rifle had been reportedly recovered from the encounter site. They were involved in the recent attack on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Maisuma area of Srinagar. Speaking to reporters, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar described the killings as a major success for the SFs in Srinagar. He said that Police while acting on a lead sealed the suspected house in Bishembar Nagar area of Srinagar early this morning. “After closing in on the house where two militants were hiding, they lobbed a grenade and fired at the security forces in which two policemen and a CRPF personnel were injured,” the IGP said. He said that in the ensuing encounter, two hardcore LeT militants were killed. Both the killed militants were Pakistani and identified as Mohammad Bhai alias Abu Qasim, alias Mir Shoaib alias Mudassir and Abu Arsalan alias Khalid alias Aadil. Earlier on April 21 morning it was reported that LeT ‘Commander’ Yousuf Kantroo was killed while others militants were under trap. Yousuf Kantroo was on the list of top 10 most wanted terrorists. Acting on a specific input, a special team of Budgam Police along with the Army launched a joint cordon and search operation in Malwah area. During the search operation as the joint search party reached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon them in which four soldiers including one officer received minor injuries. The fire was effectively retaliated leading to an encounter. Later on, Baramulla Police headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla District also joined in the operation. One Policeman from the Baramulla District also got injured in the encounter. According to J&K Police, terrorist Yousuf Kantroo earlier joined as an over ground worker of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit and was arrested in the year 2005. Later on, he was released in the year 2008 but he again joined terrorist rank in the year 2017 and started killing innocent civilians, Policemen and political workers. Later on he switched from HM to LeT. However, the identification of the other killed terrorist is yet to be ascertain.

Two motorcyclists opened fire at Eid Muhammad Hassani and managed to escape. Eid Muhammad Hassani was serving as the head of the CTD in Kharan District and previously served on various important posts. BLA ‘spokesman’ Azad Baloch claimed the responsibility of the attack. He said in his statement that Eid Muhammad worked as Station House Officer (SHO) in Kharan Police Department for many years before joining CTD. While behind the scenes, he was being used as a pawn by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Eido used his position and powers for ISI from the beginning. At the behest of the ISI, he used to monitor the movement of Baloch cadres and used to barricade the area. Apart from this, he has extra judicially handed over the Baloch youths to secret agencies on fabricated charges and other baseless grounds.
