Police,on January 1, said that they arrested an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants who was tasked to kill a recently elected Councillor in Baramulla town in BaramullaDistrict of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India, reports Daily Excelsior. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, Abdul Qayoom said that the arrested OGW was tasked to recruit youth and to kill a newly elected Councillor. The SSP said that they arrested a militant associate, Asif Gull, early this week who was under the Police radar for the past eight months for his involvement in a grenade attack in Baramulla in August last year (2020) that claimed the lives of security personnel besides having over two dozen cases registered against him. It was also found during the investigation that he was in touch with the most wanted and longest surviving militant Hyder and associates who were killed in an encounter last year.“Hyder and another associate were in touch with Asif Gull and it repeatedly surfaced he was involved in a grenade attack but had gone into hiding since then to undertake some tasks,” he said.

Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) claimed to have busted yet another terror module with the arrest of a suspected militant in Reasi District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on January 1, reports Daily Excelsior. With the arrest of the militant, a total of five different modules of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its offshoot The Resistance Force (TRF) have been unearthed in the past two weeks, the JKP said.Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mukesh Singh, said, “On the basis of reliable information a person identified as Mohammad Yousaf, 20, son of Ghulam Haider of Deval in Mahore Tehsil[revenue unit] of Reasi district was apprehended [arrested] by a team of police station Mahore”.During sustained questioning he divulged that he had hidden some cache of arms and ammunition in a hideout at village lower Angrala of in Mahore, the officer added.“A joint search operation of Jammu Kashmir Police and army was launched in the area and five live grenades and a 9 mm pistol along with ammunition were recovered from the hideout,” IGP, Singh, said.

A suspected cadre of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as Guddu Singh, was arrested from Kosamba, around 48 kilometres from Surat city in Surat District of Gujarat on January 2, reports Times of India. Guddu Singh, who was living in Kosamba for the past 10 years, was wanted in Jharkhand for several offences. He was arrested in a joint operation by Jharkhand Police and local forces.Guddu was staying with his family and had changed his identity to avoid being arrested, said Police adding that he is wanted in six cases, including murder, kidnapping and attempt to murder, offences related to the Arms Act and the Explosive Substances Act, all dating back to 2011 and 2013.

Lakhvi’s whereabouts had not been known since he was released on bail from a jail in Rawalpindi in April 2015. However, it was widely believed that he had continued playing a key role in directing the activities of the LeT even while he was in prison after being arrested in the aftermath of the Mumbai carnage. A spokesperson for the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Pakistan’s Punjab province said in a statement that Lakhvi was arrested on charges of terrorism financing during an intelligence-based operation conducted by the department. “Today, on 2 January 2021, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi was arrested in a case of terrorism financing registered by the CTD Punjab in Police Station CTD Lahore,” the spokesperson said. “He is accused of running a dispensary [and] using funds collected for terrorism financing. He [and] others also collected funds from this dispensary and used these funds for further terrorism financing. He also used these funds for personal expenses,” the spokesperson added.

Azizullah, a Rohingya from Myanmar, had been staying in Sant Kabir Nagar for the last 19 years on fake documents. Moreover, raids were also conducted raids in Hyderabad, Mumbai and multiple locations across five districts including Basti in eastern UP and Aligarh in western Uttar Pradesh. The sources claimed that the ATS had also been looking to bust the terror funding network associated with Rohingyas in UP. Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Kawasi Masa (30) and Muchaki Budhra (30) were arrested following an exchange of fire with Security Forces (SFs) in a forest between Dhanikortha and Kormagondi villages in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on January 22, reports Outlook. When a patrolling team comprising District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel was cordoning off the forest it came under fire by the Maoists. After a brief exchange of fire, two cadres were arrested while others managed to escape taking advantage of the dense forest. A 5-kg tiffin bomb, five detonators, a Maoist uniform and other materials were recovered from the possession of the two arrested cadres.

In an intelligence-based operation, carried out with the Police, the Paramilitary Force claimed, they arrested a most wanted Lyari gangster, Ismail alias Petra. According to a Rangers spokesperson, they had received a tip-off about Ismail - who had fled from Karachi - hiding in Mominabad in Orangi Town. The Rangers carried out a joint operation with the Police in the wee hours of January 30 and arrested Ismail from Mominabad. Later, Ismail was booked in cases of murder, attempted murder, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, Police encounter, sale of drugs and other crime. The Rangers arrested two suspected Lyari gangsters, identified as Ismail Patni and Sameer Shaikh, said to be working for an on the run Lyari gang war leader, Ahmed Ali Magsi on January 30, reports The Express Tribune. The arrests were made during joint operations with the Police, conducted in on the basis of tip-offs. Acting on a specific input, Budgam Police, 53 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested three militants from Budgam during searches. Those arrested have been identified as two former militants Mohammad Yousuf Dar alias Janbaz Kashmiri, Abdul Majeed Mir alias Majid, both residents of Chewdara Beerwah and Reyaz Ahmad Basmati, resident of Safa Kadal in Srinagar. Police said that these militant associates were affiliated with LeT and were also working for other militant outfits like Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM). Police said, two hand grenades, 25 AK-47 rounds, 4 detonators, mobile phones used to contact Pakistani handlers, threat posters and other incriminating material have also been recovered from their possession. Police said that these militant associates were operating in Budgam and Srinagar Districts with the aim to target newly elected DDC members and disrupt elections. They were in touch with handlers in Pakistan including Sheikh, Usman, Tariq, Haftullah and others. These militant associates in garb of securing admissions in Pakistani educational institutions and were managing contacts with Pakistan based militant handlers in order to recruit militants and revive militancy in Budgam.

Chinku Pathan, was arrested in January, 2021 by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) from his home at Ghansoli in neighbouring Navi Mumbai after the NCB neutralised a drug syndicate suspectedly being operated by him. Bandipora Police had received reliable information that there were certain anti-national elements who were indoctrinating youths and influencing them with false narratives and motivating and enticing them to take violent path besides providing them arms, ammunition and other resources for the purpose. Police said that acting on specific human and technical inputs, Bandipora police along with 13 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Army arrested one suspected person Abdul Majeed Khan, resident of Kralpora Bandipora, in a joint operation at Wullar Vantage Park Aragam Bandipora and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession which includes one pistol, three live hand grenades and 10 live rounds. On enquiry, the accused revealed that he is associated with JeM militant outfit and is in contact with handlers across the border from where he received instructions to identify innocent youth for joining militancy and pass on arms and ammunition to them. While Lakhwinder and Satnam were arrested from Dullapur Keri village, Balwinder was arrested from Pakki village in the District. On the night of February 7 and 8, four Punjab based smugglers reached the suspects’ fields at Hindumalkot to collect a drug consignment from Pakistani smugglers. As the smugglers threw heroin packets from across the border, BSF personnel got sniff of it. The four allegedly fled with 5kilograms heroin from the spot. The Police claimed at least four suspected smugglers from Ferozepur and Fazilka Districts of Punjab had fled with 5-kilograms heroin. A packet containing 1kilogram heroin was found at the spot.Investigation indicated Lakhwinder facilitated the visit of smugglers from Punjab to his fields. Footage of the location of the International Border (IB) was also made available to them for easy access to Pakistan smugglers to take heroin consignments.

In their interrogation, the arrested members of PFI revealed to having a plan to trigger blasts to mark ‘Popular Front Day’ — the foundation day of their outfit on February17. According to Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, the arrested Badruddin is the national head of PFI’s hit squad division, a black belt and expert in bomb making while Firoz is national trainer of PFI on bomb making. According to Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the arrestee Bachaya Khan had brought the contraband from Pakistan on the intervening night of February 15 and February 16 and buried in his house which is located very close to the international border (IB). On February 17, another person, Mere Khan, co-accomplice of Bachaya Khan was arrested in this connection. Both the accused were in touch with the international drug racketeers in Tarantaran in Punjab. According to ATS Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), OP Ujjwal, Khan’s cousin brother Badal Khan who lives in Amarkot, Pakistan with the help of international Pak smuggler Fotiya Khan, had thrown heroin packets over the fencing from Pakistan side to India’s side. Indian smuggler Meera Khan had taken those packets and given them to Haliya Khan. Haliya Khan had given the packets to Bachaya Khan for making delivery in Tarantaran district, Punjab. Rah Hussain Bhat, a resident of Batbagh-Hunipora village of Nehama in Pulwama, was arrested, who was in touch with Suhail Bashir Shah of the same District and was arrested few days back along with 6.5 kilograms of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which he was planning to plant at General Bus Stand or surrounding areas of the city. The Superintendent of Police (SP) M. S. Dhillon said huge quantities of firearms and equipment were recovered from the gun factory in the dense forest and hilltop of Rishikund Bhelwa under Shampur Police Station limits inthe District. The recoveries included - 13 pistols of 7.65 mm bore, 17 half-finished pistols, 28 magazines, eight live cartridges, two cell phones, seven barrels, 18 base machines, drilling machines, spring wires used in triggers, about two dozen razors, screwdrivers, hacksaw blades and steel plates. The Maoists managed to escape from the gun factory carrying complete firearms. However, one of the skilled workers engaged in manufacturing the firearms under Maoists’ supervision, identified as Akhilesh Singh alias Karu Singh was arrested from the spot. The eight activists arrested Suneer, Yasir, Abdul Khader, Nishad, Anas, Shabudin, Riyaz, and Anzil hacked RSS activist Nandhu Krishna on February 24 following clashes between SDPI and RSS at Nagankulankara Junction. According to reports in India Today, tensions had been brewing in the area following a march organised by the SDPI recently in protest against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's Kerala visit to inaugurate BJPs Vijay Yatra from Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram. Another RSS activist K.S. Nandhu who suffered serious injuries in the clashes has been recuperating at a private hospital in Ernakulam. The National Investigation Agency (NIA), on March 1, arrested four suspected drug traffickers from Srinagar over their alleged involvement in the Handwara narco-terrorism case, in which 21 kilograms heroin and over INR 10 million cash were seized last year from members of a drug syndicate operating in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India, reports Daily Excelsior. Two more accused are yet to be arrested.An official said, “Investigation revealed they were involved in cross-border smuggling of heroin in huge quantities from Pakistan and were supplying the drug in J&K and other parts of India. Proceeds of the sale were used to fund terror activities of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Kashmir Valley. The accused also communicated regularly with LeT and Hizbul Mujahideen operatives using encrypted chat platforms.”The arrested were identified as Altaf Ahmed from Ganderbal, Showkat Ahmad Parray from Bandipora, Mudasir Ahmad Dar from Shopian and Amin Allaie alias Hilal Mir from Anantnag, an NIA spokesperson said in a statement. “Handwara Police initially registered a case in June last year after seizing Rs 20 lakh [INR 2 million] along with 2kg [kilograms] heroin was from the SUV of one Abdul Momin Peer during a routine check of vehicles at Handwara’s Kairo Bridge,” the NIA spokesperson said. Police arrested eight Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) couriers and recovered explosive materials from their possession in separate incidents in Cherla and Dummugudem Mandals (administrative sub-divisions) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on March 4, reports Telangana Today. Bhadrachalam Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vineeth G, said Dummugudem Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were engaged in vehicle inspection at Reguballi village of Dummugudem Mandal spotted two persons moving suspiciously, took them into custody and recovered explosive material from them. Based on the information they provided, Police arrested six others at Cherla bus stand. The arrested persons were labourers working at Sita Rama Lift Irrigation project and Polavaram Project. They stole the explosive material to supply them to the Maoists on the orders of Maoist ‘Gundala Area Committee’ in-charge Bhadru alias Papanna. The Police recovered 350 electrical detonators, 130 metres cordex wire, nine liquid gelatin sticks, a motor bike and INR 17, 000 cash, the ASP added.

Police arrested an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of the militants and recovered ammunition and explosives from his possession in Mahore area in Reasi Districtof Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on March 5, reports Daily Excelsior.The arrested OGW has been identified as Reyaz Ahmad (21) of Kundedhan in Chassana area in Mahore.On his disclosures, Police neutralised a hideout of the militants between Makhidhar and Upper Shikari ridge in Mahore and recovered two UBGL/MGL grenades, one Chinese grenade, two HE 36 grenades, three Mor bombs, two kilograms gun powder, 250 grams explosive, 30 INSAS rounds, 20 sniper rounds and 30 AK rounds.
