The BSF seized a consignment of arms and heroin along the IB near the Chamliyal border outpost in Samba District on January 3, reports Daily Excelsior. The consignment was found packed in a white-coloured sack hidden in sarkanda (wild grass) near the Chamliyal border outpost. The officials said the seizure included three AK rifles along with five magazines, four pistols along with seven magazines, five packets of heroin and some assorted ammunition. The sack was noticed during patrolling, the officials said, adding that it had the markings of “Karachi Fertilizers Company Limited”.

Three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants including a local militant killed in an encounter with the Security Forces (SFs) in Chandgam village of Pulwama District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 5, reports Greater Kashmir. "Acting on specific input regarding presence of terrorists in village Chandgam area of Pulwama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 55RR and 182Bn CRPF in the said area, " a Police spokesman said. "During the search operation, as the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter, " he added. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 02 M-4 Carbine and 01 AK series rifle were recovered from the site of encounter. Among the killed militants, two have been identified as Mir Owais resident of Ashmander area of Pulwama District and a Pakistani national Talha Yasir. Regarding the third killed militant, although the recoveries made from the site of encounter indicate him to be a foreigner however his identification is being ascertained. As per Police, the slain trio was "part of group involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities". "Several terror crime cases were registered against both the killed identified terrorists. Terrorist Owais was involved in killing of a civilian namely Azad Ahmad Dar of Kangan Pulwama. The killed Pakistani terrorist Talha was mastermind in preparation of Vehicle-borne IEDs besides, involved in attack on civilian at Wanpora area of Pulwama”, Police said.

Police on January 6 neutralised a “hybrid module” of The Resistance Front (TRF) outfit in Bagat Barzulla area of Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), by arresting two militants and two of their associates, reports Greater Kashmir. Among arrested terrorists, Suhail Qadir Khanday S/O Ghulam Qadir Khanday R/O Tral Pulwama, Suhail Mushtaq S/O Mushtaq Ahmed Waza R/O Niklora, are active terrorist, while their associates are identified as Basit Bilal Makaya S/O Bilal Ahmed Makaya R/O Qamar Abad Qamarwari and Naikoo Imad Nasar S/O Farooq Ahmed Bhat R/O Kiloora Shopian. Both the associates worked as Over Ground Workers (OGW). Two pistols along with two magazines and 30 pistol bullets were recovered on spot. On further questioning of terrorists Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including two pistols, six pistol magazines, 69 rounds two pistol silencers have been recovered from their hideout in Srinagar city. Addressing a press conference, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, central Kashmir, Sujit Kumar said they have “busted a module on credible human intelligence”. The members of this module are said to have carried out a recce of headquarters of National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police Headquarters in New Delhi. During the press conference, DIG Sujit Kumar said: “On December 22, 2021 terrorists targeted and killed a property dealer in Safakadal area”.

The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) dump along with five Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and other Maoist-related items near Korhigandi village in Swabhimaan Anchal in Malkangiri District of Odisha on January 7, reports ommcomnews.com. According to reports, an operation team of the newly established Company Operating Base (COB) Ghanabeda/09 Bn recovered the IEDs, later on, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of BSF, cordoned the area and destroyed the IEDs in situ, thwarting a possible threat to the operating Security Forces in the region.

Three accomplices of Canada-based Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) operative Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dala, an aide of KTF’s Canada-based ‘chief’ Hardeep Singh Nijjar, were arrested with two hand-grenades and two pistols from Chogawan village in Moga District of Punjab on January 7, reports Hindustan Times. The arrestees identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi of Shadiwala village, Varinder Singh alias Vinda of Makhu and Baljeet Singh of Fatehgarh Panjtoor village in Moga District, had planned to attack a church in Moga to disturb the law-and-order situation, the Police said. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Charanjeet Singh Sohal said, “The accused had done a recce of a church and planned a grenade attack on it. However, we caught them and averted the attack.” The SSP further said, “First the accused tried to run over the police team with their vehicle when they were intercepted and then they tried to throw grenades at them. They also pointed pistols at the police personnel. However, the police managed to catch them.” A .9mm pistol, a magazine and six cartridges were recovered from Gurpreet Singh, while a .9mm pistol, two magazines and 12 cartridges were found with Varinder Singh and two hand-grenades were recovered from Baljeet Singh. The SSP said, “During interrogation, they said that they were in regular touch with Arsh Dala, who provided them the grenades to throw at a religious place. A huge quantity of explosives, suspected to be left behind by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), was found in Malkangiri District of Odisha on January 14, reports India Today. During a combing operation in Swabhiman Anchal (erstwhile cut-off region) on the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border, personnel of the Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) detected the dump of explosive materials in a forest near Maribeda and Nademanjari villages in Jodamba Police Station area, Superintendent of Police (SP), Nitesh Wadhwan said. Among the materials found were four tiffin bombs and 20 web belts, he said. Besides, 19 jungle caps and a large number of medicines were also found, he added. It is suspected that the Maoists fled the area, leaving behind the explosives, due to the combing operation, the officer said. "We are suspecting that these explosives belonged to Maoist cadres of AOBSZC (Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee) and were intended to be used against civilians and security forces," he said.

Acting on reliable information, troopers of Border Security Force (BSF) at Ghanabeda and the District Police personnel conducted a joint operation and recovered seven Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and explosives concealed under stone piles near the villages of Sadaram, Sanyasiguda and Totaguda. The troopers of DRG of the State Police and the 201st Battalion of CoBRA were out on patrolling to ensure security for the ongoing road construction works in interior areas wherein a group of armed Maoists opened fire on the patrolling team near Timmapuram, located over 450 kilometers from the State capital Raipur, leading to the gunfight and after the exchange of fire stopped, the body of a male Maoist wearing his 'uniform' and firearms were recovered from the spot, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sukma Sunil Sharma informed. Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in Lathia Forest under Chanan Police Station limits in Lakhisarai District of Bihar on February 2, reports The New Indian Express. One Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) and a pistol, earlier looted from the SF personnel, were recovered from the encounter spot. The slain Maoists were identified as Jagdish Koda and Birendra Koda, who were evading arrest in connection with Maoist related incidents. Following a tip-off about a congregation of Maoists combing operation was launched in Lathia Forest, and armed Maoists started opening fire on seeing the SFs proceeding towards their hideouts. A fierce gun-battle ensued, leaving two Maoists dead and several others injured. The injured, however, managed to escape taking advantage of the topography of the area. The incident followed the abduction of two members of a family recently, however, the father-son duos were later released under pressure from the Police.

Anantnag police received credible information that the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) is planning attacks on Police and Security Forces in Srigufwara area, an unnamed official said. “Multiple nakas and check-points were established at various locations. At one check point established at Sakhras crossing Srigufwara a bike having three persons on board was intercepted and they tried to flee but were apprehended by police”, he said. Two Chinese pistols along with magazine and ammunition was recovered from them. “[The arrestees] disclosed that they are the associates of JeM and have planned to attack police and security in Srigufwara area thereafter they will get formally inducted into the organisation. They further revealed that they are in direct contact with Pakistan based JeM handlers and at their behest they were going to attack police and then formally join the KFF an offshoot of JeM”, he added. An encounter took place between the squad of Ravindra Ganjhu, the ‘regional commander’ of CPI-Maoist, carrying reward of 1.5 million, and the SFs on February 10. During the combing operation, an IED kept hidden in the forest exploded as soon as the soldiers kept their feet, in which both the CoBRA troopers identified as Dilip Kumar (29) and Narayan Das (38) were injured. Later on, the Maoists fled after seeing the Security Forces (SFs) overwhelmed. Superintendent of Police Ajay Linda said some of their sympathisers, too, have been taken into custody. He added that a former mukhiya (village headman) was among the sympathisers, who was given the responsibility of inviting Nayak to a football match in Jheelruwa on January 4, while two other locals, Pradhan Koda and Pusa Lugun, were told to keep a tab on Police movement. During search operation in follow up to the IED recovered in Ghazipur on January 14, a suspicious sealed pack, later confirmed to be IED, was found in the bag from the second floor of the house in Seemapuri. The owner of the house named Kasim had given the second floor of his house on rent to four boys. They all fled from the house before the Police raid leaving the IED bag behind. It is being suspected that the tenants in the house had connections with the Ghazipur RDX case. Further investigation is going on.

The encounter took place in a forest near Burgum village under Aranpur police station limits when a team of the District Reserve Guard was out on an anti-Naxal operation, and after the face-off ended, the body of a Maoist was recovered, Superintendent of Police (SP), Siddharth Tiwari said, adding that the deceased, identified as Arjun alias Lakhma Sodi (34), was carrying a reward of INR 500,000 on his head. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said SFs had launched the operation after receiving reports related to the presence of terrorists in the area. During the operation, the SFs and the terrorist got involved in an “intense exchange of fire” that led to the killing of the terrorist. Four out of the five terrorists were identified as Habib Nawaz, Waheed Ullah, Abdur Rehman, and Muhammad Ullah. Meanwhile, the identification of the fifth terrorist is in progress, said the ISPR. The killed soldier was identified as 28-year-old Sepoy Shabbir Ahmed, a resident of Quetta (Balochistan). “Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the hideout of the killed terrorists which include submachine guns, hand grenades and a large number of multiple calibre rounds,” the statement added. Among the arrested persons are ‘zonal commander’ Balram Oraon, an accused in 82 cases, ‘sub-zonal commander’ Dashrath Singh Kherwar, ‘area commander’ Markush Nagesia and members Shaileshwar Oraon, Mukesh Korba, Viren Korba, Shailendra Nagesia, Sanjay Nagesia, and Sheela Kherwar. Kherwar and Nagesia are wanted in seven and 10 extremists related cases respectively, while others are accused persons in two cases each. Acting on specific information about the presence of militants in the Aarath area in Budgam District, the JKP along with 2 RR (Rashtriya Rifles) arrested an active LeT militant identified as Yasir Mushtaq, and a militant associate identified as Irfan Bashir, both residents of Allahpora Budgam. Incriminating materials of proscribed terror outfit LeT, arms and ammunition including one Chinese grenade, one AK Magazine and 30 AK rounds were recovered from their possession. Investigation revealed that Yasir had joined terror folds recently and Irfan was providing the logistic support to him. Investigation revealed that Muzamil and Yaseen were in close contact with handlers of LeT across the border and on their directions, they left their homes on February 16 to join the terror outfit. Based on a specific input of Police about the presence of militants in village Amshipora, Shopian, a joint operation was launched in the intervening night of February 24 and 25, and after a cluster of houses were taken into cordon, following the drill civilians were evacuated to safety. Thereafter, house to house searches were started in the wee hours to locate the hiding militants. During the searches, the militants came out and resorted to indiscriminate firing, in which one civilian namely Shakeel Ahmed Khan son of Abdul Rahim Khan resident of Amshipora got seriously injured and later succumbed to the injuries. However, the fire by the militants was retaliated effectively in which both militants were killed, who have been identified as Muzamil Ahmad Mir, resident of Chatripora, Shopian, and Shariq Ayoob, resident of Bonpora, Amshipora, Shopian. As per Police records, Muzamil was involved in several militant crimes. “Both the slain militants belonged to LeT outfit, incriminating materials including arms (one AK 56 rifle and one pistol) and ammunition were also recovered”, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar said.

The JJMP ‘area commander’ Arvind had created a reign of terror among the brick kiln operators, and it was a trans-border terror. Farmers who produce coarse grains on the river Sone’s dry land in Bihar were also required to pay the ‘levy’ (extortion money) to this JJMP rebel. Arvind is a renegade criminal who has worked as a Maoist, a dacoit, and a member of the Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee/Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TSPC/TPC), a CPI-Maoist splinter group, before joining the JJMP. He spent three years in Rajasthan’s Jaipur jail, but that did not make him a reasonable guy, according to the Superintendent of Police (SP), Palamu, Chandan Kumar Sinha. There are 15 cases against Arvind, and Police in Bihar and Jharkhand were looking for him. In a statement, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that Security Forces (SFs) conducted an operation to apprehend terrorists after receiving information about a terrorists' hideout. "Once the troops started [the] clearance operation in the area, terrorists tried to escape from their camp and opened indiscriminate fire onto security forces," the statement said. The ISPR said that seven terrorists, including commanders Hasil Doda and Washdil, were killed during the exchange of fire. Following specific inputs about the presence of cadres of Pedaras (Local Organisation Squad (LOS) and Katekalyan Area Committee formations of Maoists in the forests of Jiyakortha, Gorli, Mutheli and Danikortha villages along the border of Dantewada and Sukma Districts, a joint squad of personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG) from Sukma and Dantewada, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)'s 230th battalion and Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) was sent to the area, wherein at around 11.30 am [IST], the gunfight broke out between Gorli and Mutheli. After the exchange of fire stopped, bodies of two women Maoists along with two 12 bore rifles and a country made weapon were recovered from the encounter spot. The blast took place in an automobile workshop where a pickup truck carrying detonators was under repair. Lalhmangaihzuala, the owner of the workshop, Lalmawikima, his helper and Lalthafamkima, the owner of the pickup truck was killed in blast. Though initially the explosion was believed to be a cylinder blast, however, on-site investigations led to recovery of 900 pieces of detonators and another electronic detonator behind the driver’s seat. According to investigations, the remnants of the detonator PENT (pentaerythritol tetranitrate) found in the blast is suspected to have Myanmar linkages. Several detonators not yet exploded in commercial quantity along with some Burma currency, a small quantity of Myanmar currency was recovered from the site.

A Police spokesman said that it has solved a grenade attack case (FIR number 22/2022 of PS Zainapora) and arrested accused persons involved in the case, besides recovered incriminating materials including arms and ammunition. During investigation of a grenade attack case (FIR number 22/2022 of PS Zainapora), Shopian Police based on reliable sources picked up one suspect identified as Fazil-bin-Rashid, son of Abdul Rashid Alai of Melhura. During questioning, he disclosed that he was working with one active militant namely Basit Ahmed of [Lashkar-e-Toiba] LeT’s, The Resistance Front (TRF) of Frisal Kulgam and on his instructions, he threw a grenade on 19th of March 2022 at Babapora camp (D-Coy of CRPF 178 Bn), in which one CRPF Jawan namely Amit Kumar got injured. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Vijay Kumar, said in Srinagar that this evening during a naka (Police check post) checking at Bemina Chowk, one Over Ground Worker (OGW) Zubair Sheikh of Elahi Bagh Soura was intercepted by Police party and on his search one hand grenade was recovered from his possession. IGP, Kumar said that the accused was arrested on the spot and a case (FIR no 15/2022 under Sections 7/25 of Indian Arms Act and section 13 of UAPA) was registered at Bemina Police Station and investigation was taken up. The accused was put to sustained examination and during questioning he revealed that he had received this grenade from another OGW Shamim Ahmed Chilloo son of Abdul Kareem Chilloo of Tankipora Shaheed Gunj. This accused confessed that he had received a consignment of four hand grenades and handed over one grenade each to Amir Rehman Dar of Tengpura Bypass, Shahid Ahmed Mir of Dangerpora Nowgam and one to Zubair Sheikh. The Naxalites fired indiscriminately, in which Amarjit’s wife Neha Neeti Kujur and three-year-old daughter Ananya Kujur were shot dead on the spot. At the same time, Amarjit saved his life by running away after being shot, along with his five-year-old son Anuj Oraon, who has suffered injuries on his face and other parts of the body. Amarjit, a former JJMP cadre, was going home on his bike with the family, when the suspected Naxalites attacked. Amarjit was injured in the attack while his wife and a daughter were killed. Amarjit was at his house after being injured, when he was arrested by the Police, and weapons including AK-56 rifles, bullets have been found from him, Superintendent of Police (SP), Ehtesham Waqrib, said. In the month of October 2021, Amarjit, along with his companions, had killed JJMP's ‘platoon commander’ Sukar Oraon and fled. He ran away with weapons and money. Since then, the militants of JJMP were searching to kill him. Amarjit’s house was also destroyed by the JJMP three months ago. However, JJMP ‘spokesperson’ Karmaveer issued a press release and vehemently denied attacking Amarjit and his family. Karmaveer has said that our organization has no hand in this attack and some people are taking the name of JJMP organization to defame it.

According to the first information report (FIR), station house officer (SHO) of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Police Station got a tip about the presence of some suspects with explosives in Shakarparian and that they were planning a terrorist attack. The SHO along with other policemen was on surveillance duty at Srinagar Highway near Zero Point at that time and shortly reached the area, the FIR said, adding that five suspects were spotted there. Four of them were caught while one managed to escape, the FIR said, adding that the four suspects were residents of different areas of the capital. During search, a shopping bag was recovered from them that had explosives weighing 500 grams, two detonators, iron nails of different sizes and ball bearings weighing 450g.

One AK rifle, three magazines, 69 AK rounds, and one grenade were also recovered from their possession. The Police, in a press release, informed that the three militant associates were providing logistical support to militants in the district. “The trio were working for JeM outfit and were providing logistic and transportations to terrorists in the district,” the release read. The accused have been identified as Owais Altaf, Aqib Manzoor, and Waseem Ahmad Pandit. A case (FIR number 77/2022) was registered in Police Station Pulwama under relevant Sections of law.

The arms dealer apprehended in Khowai District had fled from the spot while the two miscreants identified as Suman Kumar and Bikash Kumar Tiwari were arrested when Government Railway Police (GRP) approached them for interrogation. Four 7.65 mm pistols, 15 rounds of live ammunition, eight magazines, and cell phones were recovered from the possession of the arrested miscreants.
