Dhaka High Court upheld the death sentences of HuJI-B leader Mufti Abdul Hannan and his associates Sharif Shahedul Alam and Delwar Hossain for grenade attack in 2004. It also upheld life-terms of Mahibullah and Mufti Moinuddin.

DIG Monirul Islam Chief of newly-formed Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of Police said that HuJI-B has been planning to carry out attacks on cultural functions across the country.

June 5 Jhalakathi District

A Jhalakathi District Court sentenced nine militants of HuJI-B to four years' imprisonment for their involvement in criminal and militant activities. It also fined each of them BDT 10,000.

Police arrested an 'operation commander' of HuJI-B at Noyadda area of Narayanganj District. The arrestee Ibrahim alias Khairul Bashar alias Bashar Hujur (40) played an important role in forming a new militant group called 'Bangladesh Jihadi Group'.

July 23 Dhaka city

Police arrested three militants of HuJI-B in Dhaka city's Kotwali area. The arrestees are Nazim Uddin (40), president of the Dhaka north unit of HuJI-B and cadres Anas (21) and Saiduzzaman (28). A case was filed accusing the trio under Anti-Terrorism Act.

Police arrested two leaders of HuJI-B in Jatrabari area of Dhaka city while they were plotting to carry out subversive activities. The arrestees are Narayanganj 'regional commander' Muahamad Ridwan (34) and Jafar Ahmed (35).

Five militants of HuJI-B were arrested in Chittagong District's Pahartali area with arms and explosives. 12 IEDs, two pistols, nine magazines, 167 rounds of ammunition, and religiously inciting books in large volumes were recovered from them.
