Chuadanga District

RAB arrested two suspected HuJI-B militants in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga District. The arrested were identified as Abdullah Al Mamun and Rakibul Islam. RAB recovered many militancy related booklets and bomb-making materials from their possession.

February 23 Dhaka city

HuJI-B chief Mufti Abdul Hannan filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking review of its judgment that upheld his death penalty in a case filed for the 2004 grenade attack on the then UK envoy in Bangladesh.

March 5 Kushtia District

Morshed Sharif Hasan (46), an organizer of HuJI-B was surrendered to RAB in Kushtia District. RAB said that Morshed had been working with HuJI-B since 2015.

March 6 Gazipur District

Two crude bombs were hurled at a prison van carrying HuJI-B chief Mufti Hannan and some of his associates at Tongi towns in Gazipur District. No one was injured in the incident. Police recovered two patrol bombs, two sound grenades, two crude bombs and two machetes.

March 16 Brahmanbaria District

Tajul Islam Mahmud alias Mama Hujur (46), 'regional commander' of HuJI-B was killed during a gunfight with Police in Kuti Chowmuhani area of Brahmanbaria District. Three Policemen were also injured in the incident. Police recovered 25 improvised bombs, five pipe guns, four bullets and five locally made sharp weapons from the spot.

March 16 Mymensingh District

A militant of HuJI-B was arrested from Kathgola area in Mymensingh District. The arrestee was identified as Abu Farha Humman (37) charged with cases of terrorism with Police in both Mymensingh and Chittagong Districts.

Jhenaidah District

RAB arrested the Jhenaidah District unit 'military commander' of HuJI-B from Hathgopalpur village. The arrestee is Abdul Alim (50), a close aide of Mufti Hannan, the chief of HuJI-B hanged recently. The accused admitted planning sabotage in Chuadanga, Meherpur and Jhenaidah Districts, RAB said.

Chittagong District

A Chittagong Court indicted five militants of HuJI-B who were arrested from the port city's Colonel Hat area in December 2016. The five are Tazul Islam, Nazim Uddin, Abu Jar Gifari, Nure Alam and Iftisham Ahmed. The court fixed July 25 for recording testimonies.

August 20 Dhaka city

10 leaders and cadres of HUJI-B were awarded death penalty for attempting to assassinate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by planting a bomb weighing 76kg in Gopalganj District in July 2000.
