Incidents and Statements involving KPLT: 2011-2012

2012

December 30: SFs arrested two surrendered KPLT militants, who were allegedly involved in planning the abduction of village headman of Benjamin Taro Village. The duo was identified as Jiten Terang alias Bikram Kro and Malong Hanse.

December 29: Suspected surrendered militants of KPLT abducted a village headman Jonathan Taro (55) of Benjamin Taro village, for refusing to pay extortion money, under Howraghat Police Station in Karbi Anglong District. Taro had received an extortion demand of INR 10 million from some surrendered KPLT militants a few days ago.

SFs arrested a militant belonging to KPLT, identified as Prasenjit Killingh, at Langthat village under Kheroni Police Station in Karbi Anglong District. SFs recovered one Single Barrel gun from his possession.

November 27: SFs recovered arms and ammunition belonging to KPLT militants from Disobai Pahar, under Bakalia Police Station in Karbi Anglong District.

December 26: Suspected KPLT shot at and injured a businessman in Sariahjan Kathalguri near the Karbi Anglong-Golaghat inter-district border.

November 14: UMHA has ordered the continuation of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 in the state and retained the 'Disturbed Area' tag for another year. The UMHA said Paresh Baruah is one of the primary reasons for renewal of the 'Disturbed area' tag, which had expired on November 3. The other reason given by UMHA to justify the renewal is the KPLT, which operates in the Sixth Schedule tribal hill District of Karbi Anglong.

October 29: KPLT has announced blanked banned on used of cell phone by the school going students and organising night show like rock concerts.

October 15: SFs arrested five poachers in Karbi Anglong District and recovered huge cache of arms from them. Senior officials of the State forest department had earlier hinted involvement of the Karbi Anglong based militant formation KPLT after horns of two rhinos were chopped off the animals near the Kaziranga National Park last month.

October 3: SFs arrested three KPLT militants in Jengkha under Kheroni Police Station in Karbi Anglong District.

March 11: SFs arrested two-suspected linkman belonging to KPLT, identified as Khorsing Teron (29) and Biren Signar, from Chokihola in Karbi Anglong District.

March 8: SFs arrested one militant belonging to KPLT while another militant escaped with a bullet injury in an encounter at Taralangso in Diphu town in Karbi Anglong District.

March 5: The State's Home department, confirmed that the KPLT is responsible for the abduction of two forest officials in Karbi Anglong District District on March 3. The militant outfit has, however, denied the charge.

KPLT militants released abducted Chief Conservator of Forest (Hills) Abhijit Rabha along with Range Officer of Biodiversity, range, Diphu, Ranjan Barua, near National Highway-36 at Patradisa under Bakaliaghat Police Station in Karbi Anglong District. Notably, the release of the duo came after the Home department of the State confirmed the involvement of KPLT.

March 3: Suspected militants belonging to the KPLT abducted two senior officials - the chief conservator of forests of Karbi Anglong, Abhijit Rabha (1984 batch of Indian Forest Service) and a range officer, Ranjan Borua of the forest department, from Baklog area under Manja Police Station of Karbi Anglong District .'General Secretary' of the KPLT, Nilip Inghi, has denied any involvement in the abduction of the duo.

February 23: SFs arrested one KPLT militant, identified as Hemari Engti (18), from Kheroni Chariali in Karbi Anglong District.

February 16: The dead body of a businessperson, identified as Deiram Teron (45), was recovered from Maigaon of Phongcherap under Santipur Police Station in Karbi Anglong District. Suspected KPLT militants had abducted the businessperson from Silonijan Market area in the District on February 6. Later the militants demanded a ransom of INR 300000 for his safe release.

February 7: SFs arrested three civilians from three different places of Nagaon and Karbi Anglong Districts for supplying SIM cards to the militant outfit KPLT.

February 2: SFs arrested one KPLT militant, identified as Ajit Phangso alias Babu, and a KPLT linkman, identified as Lakhim Rengma, from Balipather locality of Karbi Anglong District.

January 29: KPLT has established links with UNLF and KYKL for training the new cadres.

January 26: Fifteen KPLT militants surrendered before the State Hill Area Development Minister, Khorsing Engti, at KASA stadium in Karbi Anglong District.

January 3: Security has been beefed up in Karbi Anglong on the eve of elections to the KAAC following reports of threats to some INC candidates by the KPLT.

January 2: KRA, asked the KPLT to refrain itself from getting involved with the internal strife between KRA and UKDA.

2011

December 27: SFs busted two camps of the KPLT in Hidli and Amlokhi areas under Dilai Police Station of Karbi Anglong District.

December 12: KPLT 'General Secretary' Nilip Enghi saying, "We will decide to come out over ground after all the clauses of the peace accord are implemented".

November 30: During the interrogation of 'foreign secretary' of KPLT Maniram Rongpi, collusion between a section of UPDS militants and KPLT became known. Some of the UPDS militants had helped KPLT militants in recent times to carry out unlawful activities in Karbi Anglong District.

November 25: Two civilians - J S Sindhu 'General Manager' of a cement company and Ramen Sharma, 'Deputy General Manager' of AMDC - were abducted by suspected Karbi militants from their offices at 18-Kilo locality near the Industrial town of Umrangshu in Dima Hasao District. KPLT is suspected to be behind the abduction.

November 22: SFs killed a top KPLT militant, identified as Amphu Terang, and arrested two others, including the outfit's 'finance secretary' Rana Hisang and Aro Killing, at Gobar Pathar Kro Village under Dokmoka Police Station in Karbi Anglong District.

November 16: SFs arrested one top KPLT militant, identified as Langsing Bey (25), from Diphu in Karbi Anglong District. The Police source further said that based on his statement SFs recovered one .9 mm pistol, 2 magazines and 10 rounds of live ammunition from Langmili Forest area under Bakaliaghat Police Station in the same District.

November 15: SFs arrested three militants of KPLT including 'foreign secretary' of the outfit from Morigaon District during a routine check along NH-37.

November 9: SFs killed an unidentified militant belonging to KPLT at Mohen Egti village of Shinghason hill track in Karbi Anglong District. SFs recovered one AK- 47 rifle, one 303 rifle and seven live ammunition of AK rifle from the spot.

November 2: SFs arrested top KPLT linkman, identified as Joysing alias Mahajan Kro and Rani Kramsapi, the girlfriend of Ranam Engti, a 'sergeant major' of KPLT at Jeng Bey Gaon from Anjukpani area in Howraghat of Karbi Anglong District. Some incriminating documents were recovered from Joysing's possession.

October 28: Three KPLT militants were arrested by SFs from three separate places in Karbi Anglong District. SFs arrested two KPLT militants identified as Babu Tisso and Babu Ronghang from Uttar Phonglokphet and Sampathar under Bakaliaghat Police station respectively.

October 27: One KPLT militant identified as Raju Tisso was arrested from Diphu. Six live ammunitions, three mobile handsets, cash amount of INR 4,500 and incriminating documents were recovered from their possession.

October 22: A local Congress leader, identified as Langtuk Killing, was shot dead by suspected KPLT militants while three of its linkmen have been arrested in Deutaghat Rongpigaon area in Assam's Karbi Anglong District.

October 10: SFs arrested a militant belonging to KPLT, identified as Jiten Kro Silonijan, in Bokajan Subdivision in Karbi Anglong District. A printed pad of KPLT was from the militant.

September 22: SFs raided and destroyed a KPLT camp in Hujunglangso Rongkhin village under Bokajan Police Station of Karbi Anglong District.

SP, Karbi Anglong District, Anurag Agarwala as saying that the KPLT camp was the operational office of Nilip Inghi, 'General Secretary' of KPLT, who along with his close cadres were present were at the time of attack.

August 29: A trooper of CoBRA was critically injured during an encounter with KPLT militants in the Kakochang area of Karbi Anglong District on August 29. The trooper was identified as Dipak Mitra. A senior Police officer of Karbi Anglong said that a group of around 25 KPLT 25 militants has been taking shelter in the Kakochang area for the last few months and was using the area as a safe heaven.

A joint team of Police and CRPF apprehended two KPLT militants and recovered one hand grenade from Upper Deopani area under Bokajan Police Station in Karbi Anglong The militants were identified as K Teron alias Sing Teron and Mangal Sing Kro alias Panchapuran.

August 26: SFs arrested a top KPLT militant, identified as Amar Rongpi, from Diphu in Karbi Anglong District. INR 25,000 was recovered from his possession.

August 15: KPLT militants attacked the Ceasefire- designated Camp of KLNLF in Karbi Anglong District. KPLT claimed to have killed several KLNLF militants in the gunfight that lasted at least two hours. Police are yet to verify the claim.

August 13: A truck driver, Nandu Mathu, was killed and 11 others, including six AJYCP activists, were injured when suspected KPLT militants opened fire on vehicles on National Highway 37 at Panbari near Kaziranga National Park. Four trucks and a Bolero were also damaged in the heavy firing.

August 10: Security arrangements in Karbi Anglong has been beefed up following the 60-hour Karbi Anglong bandh (General shut down) called by the KPLT from August 13.

In a joint operation, State Police and CRPF shot dead an unidentified militant of KPLT during an              encounter at Kuli gaon under Bokajan Police Station in Karbi Anglong District.

July 27: 30-member peace committee comprising the tea community, Karbi villagers and officials of Golaghat and Karbi Anglong administrations has been constituted and security beefed up to defuse ethnic tension and thwart KPLT militant attacks along the Golaghat-Karbi Anglong boundary in Assam.

July 23: A group of KPLT militants assaulted a woman labourer of the tea estate at Hatikhuli tea estate, located near Kaziranga National Park.

July 12: SFs killed two KPLT militants, including 'Commander-in-chief 'Angpang Engti and his bodyguard Ading Rangpi, at Upper Deihori Rangpi Kro village in Karbi Anglong District. Another militant was injured. An AK-56 rifle, a .303 and a gun along with ammunition were recovered during the operation.

July 7: KPLT has slapped an extortion demand of INR 30 lakh on Rangajan, Dirring and Hatikhuli gardens and kidnapped Bogai Karmakar, worker of the Hatikhuli estate on July 7 in Golaghat District.

July 2: Around 30 militants of NDFB-ATF under the leadership of B. Narzari has built up bases inside Kaki reserve forest in the border areas of Karbi Anglong and Nagaon Districts. NDFB-ATF is trying to procure arms from Dimapur (Nagaland) and also secure its hold in the eastern part of Karbi Anglong with the help of KPLT.

June 7: Narendra Kiling, member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and a Congress youth leader, was shot dead by KPLT militants at his residence in Diphu District. The militants also took away three service rifles and around 70 rounds of ammo from the home-guards.

May 10: SFs neutralized a KPLT camp at Engjai basti in the upper Chelabor area under Dokmoka Police Station of Karbi Anglong District and arrested a militant along with wife of another militant. The arrestees were identified as Sarthe alias Gudam Hanse (18) and Kache Terangpi (30). SFs recovered 300 gram of explosive materials along with many incriminating documents like extortion noted books, dresses, SIM card, battery, wire.

April 26: One civilian identified as Bordeka Kro (55) was shot dead by KPLT militants at Karuna Singnar Gaon near the New Life School in Karbi Anglong District.

April 2: KPLT militants killed three CRPF personnel and injured four others in an ambush near Rongshuli village in east Guwahati. Three slain personnel were identified as Havaldar Devendra Shah, Mithu Singh and a constable Dilip Kumar, adds Shillong Times.

March 28: SFs killed one KPLT militant in Koilamati locality under Bokajan Police Station in Karbi Anglong District. One A. K- 56 rifle, one magazine and some live ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

March 5: A KPLT cadre, identified as Andrew Terang, was killed in an encounter with the Security Forces at Samelangso under the Dokmoka Police Station area of Karbi Anglong District in Assam. A pistol, two magazines, a detonator and extortion demand notes were recovered from the possession of the slain militant. KPLT broke away from the KLNLF and formed the outfit on January 8, 2011.

February 13: SFs shot dead an unidentified KPLT militant in Bokajan sub-division of Karbi Anglong District in Assam. A rocket launcher, a 9mm pistol, 15 rounds of ammunition was recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

February 4: SFs arrested a KPLT militant from Dillai Police Station limits. The police recovered two mobile phones, copies of extortion demands and other incriminating documents.

January 27: A senior Congress leader and President of the KJCA, Mohen Ingti, was shot dead allegedly by KPLT, in Bokajan subdivision of Karbi Anglong District. According to a Television channel report, the KLPT has mentioned that Mohen Ingti was shot dead for not heeding to the outfit's command.

January 25: Several passengers suffered bullet injuries when a Manipur bound inter State bus coming from Guwahati and heading towards Imphal was attacked by cadres of KPLT at Deopani, under Golagat Police Station of Karbi Anglong District. Five passengers, including the driver, identified as one Inao, a woman and a minor boy, identified as David Mate, were injured. One among them, Jisai Masai (12), is reported to be critical.

January 8: The militants belonging to the Anti-Talks Factions of Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF-ATF) formally rechristened itself as Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT). In the foundation day celebration programme headed by Jing Hanse, deputy 'commander-in-chief', of the outfit and flag was hoisted by Nilip Enghi, general secretary-cum publicity in-charge, KPLT. During an interaction with the reporters, Nilip Enghi criticized the KLNLF and said that KPLT is pledged to fight until the autonomous state is formed.
